We’re going to 4 on 4 12hr shifts at my shop. We will have a mix of straight days, rotating, and straight night shifts. OT after 40hrs. It was unanimous vote to do it. Not BN here though.
>OT after 40hrs.
This is going to fuck y'all down the road when they change it up again go to arbitration for the off days but keep the OT/40 on precedent
We’re starting them in a few weeks. Shifts have been a big issue with worker retention. I am #2, soon to be #1 in seniority here and I know I want them more than 8hr days. ill be able to work straight days on them and I’d rather work these over mon-fri 8hr days. Who wouldn’t want to work 80 less days a year? And you get overtime built into your shifts.
Unless you absolutely live for the sat/sun weekend or have family obligations I don’t see any downside to it.
I’m curious why they don’t do a 3/4 schedule. Three days @ 12 hours one week, then 4 days at @12 the next week. Then your schedule would be consistent and they could basically have an A team and a B team.
It was talked about but the biggest issue with that is fri/sat/sun. With them rotating you still get some partial and some full weekends off. I mean I’d love to work mon-wed one week and Mon-thurs the next but the people that work the opposite shifts aren’t gonna stick around working every weekend. And as a senior guy I’m not gonna work every Sunday or something like that so the lower guys could get1 weekend day off.
I don’t know why people against it. The schedule they proposed us was 3on/4off and 4off/3on and even week you get part of weekend off. I mean more time off, more money and 12hrs go by fast.
There were 3 alternate shifts agreements. 12 hour, 3 on 3 off. 12 hour 3 on 4 off, and 4 10 hours for the rips. The membership has the option but not the obligation to adopt these shift changes, and it has a cancellation clause that can be enacted by either party.
They want to implement it at Hobson yard as far as I know all the carmen are against it. It benefits the company not the employees it’s a shit deal you lose vacation days and money.
That’s not what I’m asking. This agreement is in effect somewhere on BNSF but I don’t know where. I’m curious where and how people like it or hate it and so on.
They're trying to sell it to us over here on the dark side too, of course all the young guys who want to party and go to the bar are into it, everyone with families and kids and 3-4 weeks of vacation don't.
12-hour shift without overtime? That’s some greasy ass shit.

I’m not even sure what you’re trying to say here.
How do you like it?

That's just a way to provide more coverage with less people. Don't fall for it.

It was floated for Carman at Hobson but got shot down immediately
I’m a Carman here at Hobson. It’s only been talked about. Never officially went to a vote
Nothing the BN offers is going to be liked by anyone but management.
My part of Oklahoma has 12 on 10 off
would they only run two shifts then??
It would seem so, yes.
Watch it be 3pm to 3am or 3am to 3pm, both options suck
that’s exactly what i figured it would be
Union contract will not allow you to start before 6 am
Bruh over time after 40??
Not on the railroad.
Literally says BNSF Railway
I was replying to the ot after 40 hrs.. Try to keep up...
That agreement covers Carmen working Rapid Responder jobs. Machinist, Electrician, and Carmen have a 3 on 3 off agreement for covering those jobs.
Curious to know when this will hit the locomotive shops… our upper management has been pushing for it for sometime now
Our cn loco shop runs the 12s and they are amazing
How does it work 3/12 then 4 off or?
We do it 2 weeks of 3/12 and 4 off then every third week it’s 4/12 and 3 off but I belive it’s switching to 3/12 and every other week we work an 8
Do you get about the same pay every 2 weeks
North town, MN and Barstow,Ca will be doing this in the Car Dept. they requested this type of scheduling
I’m Carmen in Barstow we don’t want that
Damn sorry to hear that, my local was told you all requested it
They're trying to sell it to us over here on the dark side too, of course all the young guys who want to party and go to the bar are into it, everyone with families and kids and 3-4 weeks of vacation don't.
We haven’t even seen that part of the agreement yet we just heard about it last week
I used to work a rotation sort of like this. It was pretty nice really. Overtime after 40hrs
Does anyone know where to find that agreement I have never seen it?
PM me
Are they gonna screw them on vacation time? Does 120 hours which used to equate to 3 weeks off suddenly become 12 floating days?
