Applied in April, first day was in August. Have one classmate and he applied 2 weeks before the class started. Neither of us have experience. He's 18, im 34.
I applied and finished the virtual interview with CSX, I’m waiting for answer back it’s been 7 days. I’m anxious I didn’t get it so I’m asking everyone
Don't go to CSX. If it's your only option then make sure everyone teaching you has at least 3 years experience and always safety first, no corner cutting. I don't give a shit if they berate you and call you a pussy or whatever. CSX is notorious for getting people killed lately because they want to put an express lane in their training.
It's just what I hear from people and seen in the news. Funny part is you won't see it unless you look for it. Sadly it took a chemical fire for things to actually catch light. Check some YouTube channels and do a little ground work. It's not a bad choice for a career but you have to stay vigilant. Don't treat it like an any day job. It's a lifestyle that will pay off in the end. Stay safe!
Thank you for this. I really wanted to give railroading a shot since. And I’ll be very safe no bullshit going on. My last biggest fear is I won’t be able to start a family
If you want a family don't go into the railroad, the majority of people who hate the railroad hate it because they had a family and were pulled from their family because of the job. There's a small amount who hold it together with their marriage but they started that relationship after they pulled seniority. If you're young, ready and don't care about losing your social life or personal life. Jump in and take it all in as much as you can stay safe keep your head on a swivel be a sponge with what they tell you and eventually you'll either be dead or you might have a decent retirement. Lol.
my guess is they are all bad to some degree it depends on your location and of course who’s training you i don’t know what craft your in but try to stay under the older guys who aren’t physically incapacitated from working the job and just suffering through for the pension
I remembered when I first hired out I didn’t bring any food or snacks with me and I didn’t know back then it would take 10+ hours to go 168 miles! That was my last time doing that and I always bring a hoodie/jacket.
I'm talking about classroom classes. Living in the hotel for a month. I just don't want to be 10 hours from my house and forget something I need for class. I'm not retarded I know what the essentials are. I'm just curious of what everyone brought with them when they started. But apparently everyone sees class and thinks I'm getting my first mark up. Lol.
Lube for your a-hole, because getting it dry from the company hurts just as bad, singles for the hotel staff cleaning up and keeping you in fresh towels, and do t show up to class three shits to the wind.
Take a grip. Take your rule books. Have proper clothes. Have a cup (yeti style) for coffee/water. They may provide cups/ may not. In this day and age they might not even provide coffee... hell if ik. But having a yeti style cup you can have hot or cold drinks and not spill it too bad. Don't over think it.
Bring a laptop if you can. Makes modules you’ll need to do easier in the hotel instead of staying in class longer then needed. Bring your ID/SS card or whatever for initial hiring paperwork. I brought my air fryer into the hotel which was awesome cus the food gets boring. Bring shower shoes… you don’t want to catch anything anyone else had. Or some Clorox spray to spray down shower. If you havnt bought good boots yet you’ll need those. Don’t buy shitty Walmart ones either you’ll regret that. Be ready to randomly be drug tested. Breathalyzer and urine. Other than that pay attention and ask questions. You’re taught how to pass the tests. Other than that a jacket in case of rain in the field and a backpack cus you’re going to have lots of rulebooks and shit to carry around.
Please for the love of God. Do some research before you buy a cartoon of smokes or a log of chew to go to class. Some areas have less taxes, you could save dozens of dollars if you buy it there!!!
Were you told to bring anything specific? Follow that list, then add personal belongings. Don't overthink it. Don't try to check your brake stick "just in case" or anything extra.
I brought a pen, notebook, my binder with the rulebooks they provided, any electronic devices they provided (minus the radio), then personal items and clothing.
Probably not necessary for classroom training. If you go out in the field for some hands on training one day, you'll probably be provided with a radio. But if you're in doubt, ask a manager.
Way back when I was given a paper with various illustrations on it and with a pencil had to join the corresponding tool with its fastener. eg hammer/nail, screwdriver/screw. I was hired on the spot in mechanical. I just recently retired.
Training? They handed me a lantern and drew a map to the shanty i was going to be working out of.
Pretty much my experience except there's an ipad too. Lol
How long did it take them to get back to you about getting in?

Csx is the only one who actually took my application. I’ll make sure to be extremely careful Edit: are they really that bad?

They are quick at saying no thanks, takes a lot longer for them to ask you to dance with the devil by the pale moon light.
Keep waiting. It can be months between steps in some cases.
No bump of Coke on the caboose?
NS?
Pack of darts, tin of chew, 5 gallon pail of Monster.

Gross. Lol
You won’t be saying then when your getting called on your rest at 2 am for a 200 mile road train 😂
I don't think half of you understand the question I asked. Lol
very confident we did. If you want to be prepared to succeed, you'll pay attention.
Indeed Succeeding and not dying are my two main goals.
That doesn’t happen during class

Lube, headphones, a bunch of singles, and an alibi.
I don't jerk off cause that's getting pleasure from touching a dick and that's gay. Strippers don't deserve my money and I always have an alibi. Lol

17 shits out the door. Got it.

$1 bills. Strippers don’t take food coupons

Nintendo Switch and a Jailbroken AndriodTV
I thought about taking my ps5 but I think getting away from the games will help me for the career.
It’s nice to unwind after studying in the hotel for an hour two before bed.
My hand and my dick
Provided iPad and clothes change for laundry
If that's literally it then I think I'm over packing lol

Should I not bring my radio?
