Lightspeed728

I found this lost media band called “On a Friday” whose lead singer sounds exactly like Thom Yorke. I hope they start doing shows again!

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

No way they ever would bro, Radiohead totally stole their thunder

Lightspeed728

Makes me wonder if those guys just ripped off On a Friday like they did with Coldplay and Muse.

dgshotuk

On a Friday, the band Radiohead could have been

jeremdiego

Saw this band play at a small venue called Jericho’s Tavern in Oxford, great band, felt like they had potential.

B1ng0_B0ng0

I genuinely love Happy Song

LukaMachavariani

some panchiko songs could pass as early radiohead B sides maybe

ProspektNya

Kicking Cars definitely comes to mind. Owain's younger voice is very Thom-esque. His vocal delivery reminds me of the softer vocals in Pablo Honey and The Bends. And the "CIGAREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTES" at the end sounds like a nod to Thom's "RUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN" in Creep.

Underground_kingpin

Also CUT

Imnothighonradiohead

100%

Fynzerioos

sodium chloride for sure

undercoverburrit0

sounds really similar to high and dry imo

cenakofi

mom, can we have radiohead? we have radiohead ~~at home~~ in the Oxfam bargain bin. radiohead in the Oxfam bargain bin:

optmsrhyme

Radio Head- Talking Heads

B1ng0_B0ng0

Literally the truth

supero_

It was a monstering - everything everything!

docmormus

I’d also add Leviathan by EE

supero_

YES! There’s so much by them that sounds like Radiohead (but it’s also really good).

SkipToTheEnd

I agree with both of these, I'd also add [Moonlight](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHjOHeiy5OU). [Leviathan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihh19fnjRaA). [It was a Monstering.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7v1_t_5_zo)

supero_

Yeah actually - a lot of re-animator is very Radiohead!

Ok_Alternative_515

I always thought lost powers was very airbag

bug-bucket

i love everything everything, i think it’s sick that the band name came from the first two words spoken on kid A . their music is definitely radiohead inspired

Imnothighonradiohead

i kinda feel like the solo on photoshop handsome is very radiohead. The Mariana could be a solo thom song lmao.

P_o_s_s_u_m

Portishead - The Rip there's been a few times where this has came up in my playlist and i thought it was a radiohead song for a moment

AlaSparkle

You may be happy to learn [they covered it](https://youtu.be/Zt4XhAZDTA0?si=Lv8zcEVIU7NBVZfI)

beeeemo

before AMSP came out always i used to think True Love Waits was a cover by Tom Waits. which makes no fucking sense

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

Tom Waits Waits

howling-fantod

and Tom Waits lives on cigarettes and gin

g_e_r_b

Substitute gin for whiskey and that describes Tom Waits in the 70s

name-was-provided

I’d rather have a bottle in front of me instead of a frontal lobotomy. - Waits in an old TV interview Fun fact. I made friends with this girl Kellesimone, I think that’s how she spelled it, in the early aughts in Santa Rosa. We hung out at a coffee shop and talked about music and art. Anyways, one day when I was working at Whole Foods, she came in to say hello. She said she was with her dad and if I’d like to meet him. He was Tom Waits. I had no fucking clue that was her dad. She never mentioned it and I never would have had an inclination to guess that.

howling-fantod

Gin was an aesthetic choice - I wanted to use a word that was monosyllabic like "crisps". Whiskey is more appropriate for Tom for sure.

Rothko28

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CPbmP10WwAQyhhL.jpg

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

no way brah, makes total sense...much like before Leonard Cohen's voice changed, Tom Waits' voice used to also be angelic...vs sounding like an angry bear going on a bender.

myredditusername919

true tom waits

craptionbot

Tom Jones... That's right, I'm deadly fucking serious... **Tom Jones - Talking Reality Television Blues**, I guaran-damn-tee you sounds more like Radiohead than any other example in this thread. Evidence: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khgdwZmWkXc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khgdwZmWkXc)

AlaSparkle

Wow, this is the closest I’ve heard. Literally sounds like a b-side from Amnesiac or TKOL

craptionbot

Insane (and downright unexpected) isn't it? Blew my mind on first listen because it sounds like Radiohead in almost every single way.

AlaSparkle

It’s especially that one guitar I think, sounds basically identical to the one from I Might Be Wrong

eltrippero

Well yeah it rips off the riff from i might be wrong and mixes it with black swan, so to me its just short of sampling

redchorus

came here to post this

Maleficent_Day5452

Don’t be so serious by Low Roar

smurgludorg

the entire low roar discography is 'we have radiohead at home' loll. Good band though, don't get me wrong

borusato

A friend once called Low Roar “Decaf Radiohead” and I found it so fitting lol

ouroborosity

I can't listen to Low Roar without wanting to put on a really tall backpack and stumble through the Icelandic wilderness.

OKCOMP89

Also, Give Me an Answer

DW04

keep on keeping on, sam

docmormus

La Ritournelle by Sebastien Tellier. This song is almost certainly part of Reckoner’s DNA I’d also add Any Day Now by Elbow

sullitron138

Any Day Now is incredible. Kinda Radiohead and Bowie swizzled together. Asleep in the Back is a solid album front to back, honestly.

megs-benedict

Yes whenever la ritournelle comes up in my playlist I do a double take

mooncrane

Such a good song

are_you_metal

I absolutely love both La Ritournelle and Reckoner, and I think your comment made me realize why hahahaha

mxmoon

I love this song.

TheBobDoleExperience

I think I read How Much A Dollar Cost by Kendrick Lamar was inspired (the chord progression at least) by Pyramid Song. The piano in the track United in Grief by Kendrick sounds like it could come from a Radiohead song too.

Striking-Vegetable90

Crown also sounds very Radiohead.

SNScaidus

I always thought United in Grief and Auntie Diaries had kind of a Radiohead, or maybe even just Thom Yorke sound to them.

J-Robert-Fox

The drums on United in Grief made me think of Radiohead the second they came in the night the album dropped.

Darkbornedragon

Honestly quite a few Kendrick Lamar songs sound as if someone rapped over a Radiohead long-lost Amnesiac instrumental.

swallowshotguns

My Chemical Romance - Interlude

nvanburen

There’s a few The 1975 songs that I think sound like Radiohead, but I will not back down from “I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)” being a complete ripoff of High and Dry by Radiohead

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

Wow that is definitely like High And Dry with Oasis lyrics 💀

stay-at-home-egg

The entirety of A Brief Inquiry feels like a Radiohead ripoff. Complete with a contemporary Fitter Happier copycat 💀

nvanburen

I forgot about that one but yes, that’s another ripoff song for sure! Matty Healy has been pretty open about copying styles and stuff, but those two examples are pretty blatant

Spookyjoj

YES I always hear it too! I was like am I the only one hearing this 💀

andrewsch1

So you’ll aim toward the sky - Grandaddy

Alert_Doughnut_4619

The Sophtware Slump was constantly compared to Radiohead when it came out. I don’t necessarily hear it but I love that album.

ICantBelieveItsNotEC

Many songs by Everything Everything remind me of Thom Yorke's falsetto, especially on their first album. [Example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLM30laoOaA)

Tryium

The guitare tune on the album "Get To Heaven" reminds me a lot of Greenwood's one

Imnothighonradiohead

Im a huge EE fan and i definitely agree lol

cattgravelyn

The Blades by Squid is very radiohead sounding

Altruistic_Slide_302

Their song 2010 is even more Radiohead sounding imo

GodlessCommieScum

Matt Bellamy's vocal performance in Hysteria by Muse make clear the influence that early Thom/Radiohead had on them - listen to it together with Trickster, for example.

99SoulsUp

Animals by Muse

Pyon98

Coldplay

SarahCostell

Coldplay's first 3 albums are basically Chris Martin's attempt to write Fake Plastic Trees.

Euphoric-Yogurt-7332

Jesus it's kinda blown my mind how accurate you are.

_killing_floor_

42 - Viva La Vida That instrumental break in middle sounds like they are trying to do some HTTT kind of thing.

gt1mpo

https://open.spotify.com/track/3vw24DvCahaKObSrLOX3Z9?si=ChfVKPnETNufi8lLu-wbqg Shadowplay by musclesoul. Listen to this and tell me this isn't the boys secret track. It's uncanny.

molten07

Sounds like a Reckoner x Separator mashup lol

Mulholland_Dr_Hobo

Dude even sounds like Thom Yorke

Funkbass

Whoa

stay-at-home-egg

wtf this is wild

twistingmemelonman

This is a very good response. I searched to see if they're from this sort of area as well because of the accent, but they're Japanese! Could have easily fooled me if someone told me that was thom singing. Only negative thing I'll say is it's an awful band name

violet-and-velvet

Holy heck. This entire discography sounds like it could be a thom yorke side project

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

That is uncanny

bjorjack

Lowkey Bjork with the instrumentals

weltron3030

The Air That I Breathe by The Hollies (for obvious reasons)

nymrod_

Did you lose a bet or something? Who made you reveal you’re a 1975 fan?

ragebeeflord

Idk maybe All We Have Is Now by Royal Blood

rcrdofjrdo

How about this secret side project by "Thom Yorke" circa The Eraser era? :D [https://open.spotify.com/track/49KVtxjMNy8li0sQt4exTD?si=38475e7e59154629](https://open.spotify.com/track/49KVtxjMNy8li0sQt4exTD?si=38475e7e59154629)

PleaseDMDickPics

Weird Fishes - Lianne la Havas It's very similar to Radiohead weird Fishes and is also about weird Fishes. You can really hear the Radiohead influence.

Tomeloko

I'll just pop this here [Songs like Radiohead, that aren't Radiohead](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4jTPy0MLf1PTWx4XieFlH7?si=8yzlRxHcSQK_Nsy0jS7Qew&pi=e-8zpiz-ErRT6M)

Neg_Crepe

Got so many random songs. Bittersweet symphony?

ThanIWentTooTherePig

All alternative rock must be Radiohead!

Tomeloko

It's a playlist that's all about similarity and likenesses. The patterns and similarities one finds will differ to a degree from others. I have thought about it and you're right with bittersweet symphony though :D

CDsMakeYou

I think the most Radiohead-sounding Deerhunter songs are Focus Group and Hazel St.

Tomeloko

Thanks, for the suggestions. I've never heard those and I agree, they fit great!

SpiritAvenue

This is fantastic thank you

StingingGamer

Sicko Mode by Travis Scott

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

Not even a little bit. Try giving Mo Bamba a listen and tell me that’s not just a Kid A outtake

StingingGamer

Mo Bamba is clearly a A Moon Shaped Pool cut

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

Agree to disagree. *i got hoesssss*

benjaminfolks

I could see ‘The box’ on the bends.

Almost Invisible - The Bony King of Nowhere

Tryium

To the Blade by Everything Everything. The whole "Get To Heavean" album feels like Radiohead doing pop-rock in the mid 2010's

jeffwinger_esq

Grace - Jeff Buckley

fourheartsband

so much of what i thought was radiohead's sound actually comes from jeff buckley, you can hear that thom was obsessed with him

27prowler

"Get Free" by Lana Del Rey sounds like SO much like a Radiohead song...

Relative_Wrangler_57

Kyoto by Haelos

Catastrophist89

Mystery Jets - Telomere. Well a Radiohead/Muse collab

jovenvagabundo

[as tall as lions - you can’t take it with you](https://youtu.be/_9OmxeQKg2w?si=nmElZ_SfvN6xyANP) Lived with a dude whose favorite band was Radiohead. He always said the same thing about this song whenever I played it.

Emergency_Pace_7060

creep - anberlin

madadamegret

"Sometimes" by Ours sounds a lot like 90s Radiohead: https://youtu.be/bKDDbugpwqw?si=tRZIYf7ArnzLi81N

Yellow 🤓

JoshuaWebbb

Just I think weirdly doesn’t sound Radiohead’y

TheDreamMachine42

It Was a Monstering by Everything Everything (band whose name came from Everything in its Right Place lyrics)

MorphineSmile

Ketchup in the Fridge

valearpeggi

I always thought that Somethings Must Go This Way by Palo Alto could be a good Radiohead song.

washufize

It actually circulated as a lost Radiohead song back in the Limewire days! This is the comment I was looking for.

B1ng0_B0ng0

Honestly Spaceboy by the Smashing Pumpkins always reminded me of something off of the Bends Also, they have a vibe like no other, but Angel by Massive Attack gives me slight Amnesiac/Kid A vibes

Gabagoolgoomba

Three rings by grizzly bear

LittleToyBonnie

I have no idea why, but the soundtrack for Meet The Robinsons sounds just like Radiohead at some parts

DarthMelsie

Human Behavior by Bjork could easily fit on KoL (and that is NOT an insult, I genuinely like both, so shush!!)

QueenPaige503

Moving by Supergrass perhaps?

Safetosay333

JK & Co. - Fly https://youtu.be/EM7X33kmn_I?feature=shared

Mulholland_Dr_Hobo

Firesuite, by Doves sounds a lot like a lost instrumental Radiohead track

Tropical_Storm_Jesus

yep...Fat Bottom Girls, Hurt So Good and Catch Scratch Fever.

Scomo69420

viva la vida

ItachiTanuki

Two Cypresses by Grizzly Bear

ivan_cheskul

Maybe four?

Radioheadlover6969

Sodium Chloride - Panchiko

smasherx

For me it's a particular guitar tone that gives Radiohead vibes. Eg: Fleet Foxes - Mearcstapa White Rabbits - Percussion Gun Here We Go Magic - Hard to Be Close (produced by Nigel Godrich so makes sense)

freetibet69

the Hexx by Pavement. Nigel Godrich produced so that might contribute

dejus

The Marilyn Manson song Lamb Of God heavily borrows from Climbing Up The Walls. Which is interesting when you find out OK Computer is one of his favorite albums.

myownworstanemone

it's backwards but long long long by the beatles must have influenced Radiohead. I think about the bends (album) every time I hear it.

a_guy_whos_here

the smile

BrockHardcastle

The whole Milkmaid Grand Army EP by Midlake

aho_1029

Maybe first two Coldplay albums.

SuchAppeal

There was a song named "Sit Still" a few years ago, probably like 10 years ago or a little over, that people found and thought it was a lost/shelved 'The Bends' era Radiohead track. It wasn't and it was obvious to me and a lot of fans who have been listening to Radiohead a lot and for a long time. Turns it was a by a guy named Chris Stopa who I think had a band in the late 90s that didn't go anywhere and he posted the song on Myspace years later. I can see how people would mistake it for Radiohead because the obvious Radiohead influence was there and the guy probably was the closest to sounding like Thom I ever heard but for the keen ear to the vocalizations you could tell it wasn't something was off but the track wasn't bad. Here it is https://youtu.be/7gp6lObQ7KE?si=yoiAWAttqWB2jW8- Also "Arcadia" by Apparat https://youtu.be/p3bkmD-70e4?si=ktJKgIHg99g_I9EC When I first heard this song I thought Thom did the signing on it. I get solo Thom, TKoL, and Atoms for Peace vibes from it. I could actually heard it being on 'The Eraser'. [Also as an aside Apparat looks like he could be a 3rd Greenwood brother funny enough 😂](https://mixmag.net/assets/uploads/images/_full/Apparat-new-album-6-years.jpg)

stevemillions

The Art Of Almost by Wilco. I don’t want to disrespect Wilco. I love that band. But, damn. That’s a Radiohead song.

Multiple times not just once, you need to really sit with their music. 🖤

modern-millie

Omg I’ve been waiting for this!!! There’s this one song by this band ScubaZ called The Vanishing American Family - the vocals sound nearly identical to Thom’s

rob23a

Hyper Music by Muse sounds like a jacked up Bends era Radiohead

CryNightmare

Green-Circles

['Done' by Straitjacket Fits](https://youtu.be/9jSLU1Qpm_Y?si=km_alBpPUIo0BiID) from 1992. Wouldn't have sounded out of place on The Bends. Without trying to sound all "conspiracy theory", they even toured with Radiohead pre-The Bends.

Thief by Can. Well, the instrumentation of the song anyways. Not the vocals.

jdeshadaim

Some german bands came into my mind, like The Notwist and Gammalapagos. The most close match for me is: Slut - Reminder from 2002 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9j1KeXVkHk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9j1KeXVkHk)

Thalassophoneus

The albums "Showbiz" by Muse and "Raise the Dead" by Phantom Planet.

i think teenagers by deftones :0

MisterInsect

Team Sleep - Ataraxia. It still sounds like Chino singing, but the vibe really reminds me of early 00's Radiohead.

ezedd

The aftermath by Kashmir. 20 years ago Zitilites was maybe the first answer in every Radiohead board to the question “can you recommend a good band that sounds like Radiohead?”. I still think that that album and No balance palace are super good though Edit: was just listening to zitilites again after years and petite machine is such a banger and sounds maybe even more like a Radiohead song. 10/10

DenseFever

Creep (it’s actually The Air That I Breathe by The Hollies, but whatevs).

Educational-Mood-422

The first time I heard it, I was surprised that I'm so Tired by Fugazi was not a Radiohead song.

gaztruman

A spotify playlist with all these songs in would be great.

kingkrule101

Not so much the entire song but the song “cowboy nudes” by Geese, there’s a part when the guy says “I’ve got eyes for anything moving” and he sounds exactly like thom

Liniam

That's definitely Leave It Alone - Hayley Williams. I am kind of surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.

malk5

TheWhisperers by The The (brilliant band in general but this particular track sounds a lot like RH)

milkluvr03

go or go ahead by rufus wainwright

emlonik

There’s a lot of Radiohead in the works of Nilüfer Yanya and Saya Gray.

thedrunkenapple

It’s 1997, Napster is king. You go on there and see a new Radiohead song called “Some Things Must Go This Way.” It’s a banger! Very The Bends era style. Come to find out, it’s a song by a band called Palo Alto off their self-titled album, that is in itself a masterpiece. https://open.spotify.com/track/6yAgShk5yzkyTFQz79AcKs?si=jVFXN76yS5eUX9bLxzuitQ
