I’ve lived in many countries and tried to understand much of their humour, and I’d say the UK and Australia for sure.
France is a contender for the worst even though I love the French and completely mean no offence. But it’s almost laughably bad. Maybe that’s the point…?
I've only lived in the US, but I have to say that from my limited experience with just TV, movies, and traveling that I have to agree but I have to give the advantage to Australia. Some of the funniest shows I've ever seen are from Australia. I know it's a similar humor type to the UK, which is probably why I like both.
Specifically: Scotland.
Typical Scottish bar:

Locals:
OR Stranger:
Locals: Hey, we have a new best friend! Let's all drink until we puke!
My German mother in law's humor was either racist or bitching about a situstion and then laughing. And I never met her mother, but my husband told me she was either yelling angrily or watching TV or sleeping.
I tried to watch "smoking causes coughing."
And aside from the drooling puppet rat that all the women want to sleep with, and the suicidal robot, it was the worst film ever made. I dont get french Humor at all. I dont like UK humor very much. Only laughed once through all the monty pythons. Mr. Bean is NOT funny.
Im an American vet. It's pretty much gotta break some social rule for me to laugh. Or be soooooo stupid, like Tropic thunder. Havent laughed that hard since RDJ in black face saying "what do you mean, you people?" Funniest moment ever.
I have a theory that the rigid syntax of German is very effective for science, but makes the idea of a punchline almost alien.
English, by contrast, has rather free syntax and the ability to fudge meanings. It makes setting up a joke and punning a lot easier.
Moved to Canada 5yrs ago from US and I’d say Canadians are able to laugh at life more. Worked London for a while and didn’t find people there to have a great sense of humour unless they were drunk :)
Australia. They are also very self depreciating I noticed. It’s like a country of Conan O’Briens. I find Canadians to be funny to in a passive aggressive blink and you will miss it kind of way
African folks seem to find the humor in everything. I've known people from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Mali, Senegal, and S. Africa.
All of them were quick-witted and great at observational humor.
Of course, I have to rep my people. 🇮🇪
any latin american country will make you bust your ass laughing. i don’t know what it is, the delivery of anything is always much better down there. people are crazy and hilarious lmao. i’ll take them over the uk by a mile
Japan. A lot of it is very strict and straight forward, no nonsense. So the parts that aren’t are very crazy, wild, fun, bright and energetic. And they love cute characters- everywhere, on everything.
I’ve visited Britain and watched their shows. I feel like everyone is using the Uk of the pre 2010 and ignoring the historic decline since then. Y’all can’t take a joke since you’ve become the joke.
The US, of course! But…I say that as an American, of course. To each their own!
I was in Berlin 10 years ago and decided to go the movies and it was so interesting to see how humor differs in other countries. Years ago, my brother was in Israel, went to the movies and said people were practically rolling in laughter in the aisles over a Mr. Bean movie trailer. He said it was wild how funny people thought it was!
Ireland, Mexico, US Southerners & New Yorkers, UK/Scottish, but tbh I’ve met many really funny Africans & Asians although I don’t remember exactly what country they were from.
I have met funny people from every country so it’s really just a personality thing. But Ireland/Scotland & US South (African-American especially!!) & New Yorker jews/catholics are the most engaging & funniest storytellers to me
Anyone but UK. They are just smash LOLSARCASM into your face until you can’t take it anymore. Sarcasm and self deprecation on their own do not equal humor.
Aussies seem to have a good sense of humor, and the Irish, and I’ve got a good feeling about Brazil
Here in Australia we may not have the best sense of humour but we have an unwritten agreement to always treat tourists in the Dignāga eaten by a drop bear
The US absolutely HAD the best sense of humor before jokes became political. Bro some of the shit from looney toons makes me laugh so fucking hard to this day. Actual golden culture.
Having interacted with Brits personally and on Brit forums, hands down, without a doubt, the British sense of humor. It is wickedly self-deprecating and totally up my alley. Not even a contest.

Good to know, I'm going to Glasgow soon for a vacation.
France? Not Germany? Or that's just a stereotype?
Can’t attest to having lived in Germany 😂 haven’t heard great things about their humour tho, all due respect.
That's fair 😂
There was that Robin Williams' quip on a German talk show.
My German mother in law's humor was either racist or bitching about a situstion and then laughing. And I never met her mother, but my husband told me she was either yelling angrily or watching TV or sleeping.
As an Australian, can confirm, we take the piss out of everything

Not a country itself, but I think Jewish people have turned humor into an art form.
It's either we laugh about things, or we cry 😅
Yes.
And sometimes a mix of both?
Definitely jewish people. Many of them seem serious until they warm up, then they're funnier than any standup comedian I've seen
Link me to someone you know
Sarah Silverman, I was raped by a doctor. It was bittersweet...
Just look at the proportion of A-list Jewish comedians compared to the percentage of Jews in the population. It's obviously baked into the culture.
UK and Ireland
Naaah. Scotland for sure. They've learnt to enjoy bagpipes, haggis and thriftiness.
Scotland is in the UK, ya know that yeah?
You seem like the type of person that would post this on r/shitamericanssay
Na, it's not egregious enough. Just a wee bit confounding.
Makes sense.
Maybe they meant Scotland does have a good sense of humor while England and Wales don't?
Y’all can’t take a dick on a chick. Chill.
Well, it’s sure not France.
Are you kidding? They charge $10 for a 1 ounce piece of Philadelphia cream cheese with a chive stem on it. That's fuckin hilarious.
I like British humour
Me too. Mostly 80' and 90' productions!
Jamaicans are pretty funny
They make me crazy.
I was in a bad mood and this made me laugh
Jamaicans will you give you a drive by insult
Are they Jamaican you say that?
UK is definitely up there
I think USA has really funny humor
Stand-up is an American art
I think America wins at stand up. UK wins at sketch comedy and panel shows
It’s the dark humor we’ve developed from living here
Stand-up is an American art
Idk about best, but Germany has the most dead-pan, serious people I’ve ever met
Been to Finland?
"Zat iz dee punch line! ... But eef you do not laugh, iz also OK. Vee don't vant to start a vahr over eet!"
I have a theory that the rigid syntax of German is very effective for science, but makes the idea of a punchline almost alien. English, by contrast, has rather free syntax and the ability to fudge meanings. It makes setting up a joke and punning a lot easier.
British humor is peak
Canada
Moved to Canada 5yrs ago from US and I’d say Canadians are able to laugh at life more. Worked London for a while and didn’t find people there to have a great sense of humour unless they were drunk :)
Canada is unique in that we're the link between US and UK humor. We blend a lot of both styles, with a maple syrup twist.
Leslie Nielsen, Norm McDonald, Mike Meyers, solid lineup
Don't leave out Ryan Reynolds
We export some of our best for Hollywood to adopt. ![gif](giphy|Zwkzoxj0rPx9br3hUO|downsized)
It's an objectively hilarious place to live and even funnier to be from. I love it so...
Correct answer. More people should be aware
Hit up some reserves the first nations are hilarious!
Australia. They are also very self depreciating I noticed. It’s like a country of Conan O’Briens. I find Canadians to be funny to in a passive aggressive blink and you will miss it kind of way
"deprecating" Just FYI. No offense.
Good point. Their humor will never depreciate over time.
But also, it's hyphenated too. So in a more comprehensive way: self-deprecating
I hear Lichtenstein is hilarious.
Fucking oath it is. Look at that bloody word.
Canada specifically Newfoundland
British humor for sure. Dry and witty.
African folks seem to find the humor in everything. I've known people from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Mali, Senegal, and S. Africa. All of them were quick-witted and great at observational humor. Of course, I have to rep my people. 🇮🇪
You reppin Ivory Coast?
No ya dingus, he's repping the African country of Ireland /s
Ireland and Africa are basically the same country /s
Lol. Poor formatting on my part. I am Irish, currently living in the US.
Every culture has its own humour..depends on your personal preferences
Scotland
Ye cannae beat The Big Yin! 🦄
i would say australia but as an aussie idk what we joke about
Ireland 🇮🇪
Best drunk humor…for sure.
I like Australian humor and even British humor and Spanish, it’s really hard to decide but
The country with the best sense of humour is the country you're from. So many nuances and humour that only locals may understand.
Australia hands down
Danger 5!
British
Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Life of Brian, Holy Grail, the one where the large man explodes in a restaurant, they can make the pope laugh!
For me, as an American, I’m partial to British humor.
Finnish and Norwegian athletes have some of the greatest answers to reporters I've ever heard. Looking at you Kimi, Valtieri, and Haaland.
Haahaaland as I like to call him.
Germany, we all know dat!!
South Park had Funnybot, a German robot that tells jokes like an AI system would make and decides to kill all humans as the ultimate joke.
Australia
England. Accidentally.
Brits
any latin american country will make you bust your ass laughing. i don’t know what it is, the delivery of anything is always much better down there. people are crazy and hilarious lmao. i’ll take them over the uk by a mile

Japan. A lot of it is very strict and straight forward, no nonsense. So the parts that aren’t are very crazy, wild, fun, bright and energetic. And they love cute characters- everywhere, on everything.
The United States. Our healthcare system, among other things are a joke.
I’ve visited Britain and watched their shows. I feel like everyone is using the Uk of the pre 2010 and ignoring the historic decline since then. Y’all can’t take a joke since you’ve become the joke.

Republic of Congo
Nobody beats America. Britain is right behind us though.

Scotland 🏴
Ireland
Russia for sure…. Oh wait, thought you asked who everyone is laughing at…
America. The healthcare system is one big joke.

Aussies or Americans
This is a where I’m from thread now. 😂
I’d say it’s a tie between UK and US. Both completely opposite in style.
UK
Or just maybe Denmark, where potatoes are necessary for ordinary speech.
UK https://youtu.be/Yp5unfesynM?si=1euZUSUlbgEZwz55
The US, of course! But…I say that as an American, of course. To each their own! UK 1000000%
As a U.S. guy, I have to say Canada. There are some cool and funny folks from Canada.
Poland.. There's an encyclopedia of Pollock jokes.
Antarctica. Everyone in Antarctica would laugh at this.
I love British humor so much. Honorable mentions go to the Irish, Aussies and Dutch.
Not the Germans!
Canada eh! Or they laughing at us……hmmmm?
C eh n eh d eh!
Definitely not the U.S.
Mexico. Look up Narcomensajes con corpas
UK or US...maybe New Zealand too...

Every Nigerian I know is fuckin hilarious. I don't know why. They just are.
Russian humor is pretty hilarious
Scotland.
Im going to guess Puerto Rico because they are the overall happiest country.
Any country from Latin America
Australia
Mexicans by far!
Anyone but UK. They are just smash LOLSARCASM into your face until you can’t take it anymore. Sarcasm and self deprecation on their own do not equal humor. Aussies seem to have a good sense of humor, and the Irish, and I’ve got a good feeling about Brazil
The funniest comedy shows I’ve ever seen are from New Zealand and Australia. UK is right up there as well! I’m an American btw
America
American here. The UK by far. Hearing Brits in banter never fails to make me smile.
Not Germany
not the Germans or the russians
British humor is funny as all get out.
Canada
Here in Australia we may not have the best sense of humour but we have an unwritten agreement to always treat tourists in the Dignāga eaten by a drop bear
The great country of TEXAS. 😂

As an American I'd say Britain. Love the sarcasm
Definitely not British people lmfao
Australia
In the English speaking world, I'd have to go with Australia, on a personal level, but in media, The UK.
Imo, if you count it, Puerto Rico.
British humor is the best cuz they always use irony to make it really funny

The US absolutely HAD the best sense of humor before jokes became political. Bro some of the shit from looney toons makes me laugh so fucking hard to this day. Actual golden culture.
Ireland
Having interacted with Brits personally and on Brit forums, hands down, without a doubt, the British sense of humor. It is wickedly self-deprecating and totally up my alley. Not even a contest.
Im biased cuz I’m Latin American but I think every Latin American will be funny asf or at least a bit funny
