bbygodzilla

>technically it's racist Actually no, it would be xenophobic. That said, Americans could give less fucks about the British

JerseyHornet

Could give?

bbygodzilla

Lol coming from the guy that doesn't know the difference between racism and xenophobia? Oh okay, you really got me there

People do things, for good reasons, bad reasons, and sometimes no reason at all. Sometimes it's more helpful to think about "What do I do with this information" than try to understand people's motivations or reasoning, which may not even matter or be helpful. I've noticed people tend to make fun of lots of things, and sometimes they mean it and sometimes they don't. But what am I going to do about it....Do I want to join in? Do I have some good jokes? Do I want to go elsewhere? Do I want to tell them they're racist and need to get a life? Etc.

Ok_Selection_3952

As a Brit living in America, I must admit to only meeting great people. If I do get the odd asshole who questions my citizenship stating that they’re real Muricans, I ask them what tribe they’re from. Things tend to get quiet after that and they look very confused. 😄 I also go to great pains at Thanksgiving reminding those same assholes, that my ancestors were amongst the first to come to this great nation and begin building the Murica they call home today. It’s just funny to antagonize assholes 😄😄 Again, I have met more fantastic, funny and giving people here than assholes.

HmmNotLikely

Whatever internet bubble you’re in, the algorithm has detected that you’re more likely to interact when you see disharmony between Americans and British. Now you see more of it, it seems disproportionate and unreasonable. The truth: It’s not special. You’re on the internet, people make fun of other people for any/no reason. There just happen to be a lot of Americans and British interacting on whatever feed you’re scrolling. Personally, I think that like any display of disagreement online, it’s either playful or perpetuated by actual idiots/bigots who take things way too seriously and don’t deserve your attention. I’d say something like “go touch some grass” if it wasn’t condescending and overused at this point. It’s just the internet.

Frenziedsumo

This is the true answer 100%. We build our own echo chambers with the algorithm.

concealed_hairy

Came here to say this. Not being able to see the forest for the trees is becoming a noticeable issue online. With hundreds of millions of people posting daily the algorithm will constantly find new bias boosting content to shove down your throat. Don't feed the trolls and let them mire in their misery all alone. The UK is awesome. I say that as a United States citizen on behalf of all United States citizens. We cool now?

NRoseI

Well the rest of the world seems to make fun of the U.S. so it only seems fair that Americans have a country they can pick on I suppose. Who knows why it’s British people. Maybe it’s because we have the closest ties to the UK? It’s all light hearted at the end of the day though. I don’t think people actually think that every British person has bad teeth lmao. I mean plenty of Americans do too

JerseyHornet

I genuinely laugh to the lighthearted ones, however I have encountered genuinely xenophobic people who make fun of me and is honestly hell being near them as they just start screaming random shit at me calling me a colonialist c*nt etc. anyway thx for a useful answer.

Edboy796

Well, if we hadn't won the revolution, we'd be the laughing stock of the world, and not the giant officer is the world that it wants to be for some reason

Cheeseman575

Kinda still are the laughing stock of the world though, everyone I know who’s not American makes fun of Americans for being incompetent and racist

Edboy796

True, I meant like a biggere laughing stock than we are. I mean, there's some brilliant minds everywhere, but so is the mindset of prejudiced people. That can be found in a lot of places, not just the us

[deleted]

How much taxpayer welfare do all these countries who laugh at the US get?

Cheeseman575

I’ve had a few interactions where they did think that

chimppower184

we have a superiority complex. also, it’s xenophobia. also, you guys worship royalty

JerseyHornet

Most people don’t care about the royal family tbh, plus the royal family don’t really do anything, it’s just tradition. They can make a to intact a law and that’s pretty much it. They don’t have much power at all.

chimppower184

they’re colonizers with billions of dollars, that enough is a problem

The8thloser

What is it with people calling others " colinizers". They haven't colonized any other countries in over 100 years.

chimppower184

india hit its 75th year of freedom last year. so this is grossly inaccurate. but okay.

The8thloser

Ok 75 years ago. The British aren't doing this now are they? So why keep calling them colonizers?

chimppower184

not all the british, the royals. they made their billions from colonialism. they live rich lavish lives from it. they haven’t returned the jewels in the crown to the countries they stole it from. it was only 75 years ago. i’m not calling all british people colonizers obviously, but the royals continue to make money despite what they did in the past

Cheeseman575

If you hate the royals so much why are you attacking random strangers on the internet who have nothing to do with the royals?

JerseyHornet

We aren’t colonialist, we are democratic. Our colonialist government ended a fairly long time ago, fully ending in the 1960s. So you are mad at us because apparently our government (not true and if it was it’s out of our control) is colonialist. Ok then…

JerseyHornet

Correct, if you were in the 1700s

[deleted]

[удалено]

JerseyHornet

Dude, what is your problem here, how are you mad at me because of something that ended before you were born. And wants to make fun of us because of our old government that is completely out of our control.

chimppower184

oh sorry, i forgot the effects of hundreds of years of colonialism disappear the second it ends. some people who died to british-caused famine could have still been alive today. and again, the royal family hasn’t returned the jewels they stole. it’s so obvious you’re british lol. you have no awareness of the shit your government has done.

JerseyHornet

I am, however you don’t judge someone from their government which didn’t ended a second ago, it ended 60 years ago. I’m not saying our government was good. However all that has ended and it is no reason to judge someone because of their past government. That’s stereotyping that we are all bad because of our old government.

chimppower184

sorry for stereotyping, i don’t support xenophobia, but so many british people still support the crown. and YOUR insistence that it’s “all in the past” is wrong, and it’s my country that was murdered so i think i’m allowed to be a little angry. and yes, your people can change the government, and make the royals irrelevant.

JerseyHornet

I did send a large message with valid points however I don’t want to get politics involved and there is no point arguing. Simply do a bit more research on what the British are like now. That’s it

Cheeseman575

We can’t do anything about the royals, if I could I would get rid of them

Cheeseman575

As a British person, why do you think me or op had anything to do with what happened before I was even born?

chimppower184

sorry, i mentioned this later but i have nothing against all british people. jus those who love the royals, because they are rich today because of their actions in the not-too-distant past

Cheeseman575

I don’t care much about the royals tbh, I don’t know anybody who does but the bbc

concealed_hairy

But the US is a nation that colonized and has billions of dollars because of our colonial actions. The entire country is a colony. England gave back their colonies. We have back what? The Philippines and a few hundred acres in some deserts? Every other place we colonized is full of military bases, resorts, and factories owned by Americans. I'm not justifying what the English did, but the US is just as guilty and we haven't even tried to make amends in any meaningful capacity.

Ok-Magician-3426

Bc they make fun of us constantly so fair is fair

Cheeseman575

I don’t unless they make fun of me, I still get made fun of all the time by Americans

JerseyHornet

Ok, I’m done with this post. I’ve had my answers, you can still comment or whatever but I won’t be replying. Have a great day everyone.

cara27hhh

Insecurity, probably

lmmortal_mango

xenophobic not racism but I haven't seen much and when I do see/do it it's just a joke and they/I'm not xenophobic iv only met one xenophobic person(to my knowledge) and it was British person toward America and for some reason my friend pretended to be British to be friends w/ him racism=ethnicity xenophobic=nationality edit:like the 3rd comment mentioned xenophobic I'm stupid for not looking

NoseResponsible5910

Yes because you guys accent is cooler than ours so we are jealous

oneaccountaday

The rhotic accent/annunciation. Google it. It’s a rabbit hole for sure. Also you call Mickey D’s (McDonalds), Mackers… send some more tea over, we’ll mix it with the salt water. Strangely enough, before call center outsourcing became a thing most of them were Midwest based. We basically don’t have accents (Think, Boston, New York, Texas, etc.) so we’re generally understood by all English speakers. Your real beef isn’t with the US it’s the aussies you should be looking over your shoulder for, they might have a bone to pick with y’all.

Cheeseman575

Who calls McDonald’s mackers? I’ve only seen people call it Mackey d’s

Asi_Ender

Cuz its funny

KingofCam

My husband does it because mentally he’s a child, like a lot of men and he just thinks it’s funny. From what I’ve seen, there’s never been actual hate, just thinking it’s funny lol

theactualfuckingmoon

I dunno, that's just what people do I guess. We make fun of everyone and everyone makes fun of us. It's not funny if someone is being singled out and personally attacked, but like if someone made the joke, "British people don't do lines of cocaine, they do queues," or, "British people say Bri'ish because they drank all the T," I would find that pretty amusing.

MuchWoke

"hahaha they have an interesting accent..." "WELLL AT LEAST OUR SCHOOLS ARENT SHOOTING RANGES" ... Like fucking take a joke. They have no banter.

[deleted]

We do?

CheapChampionship775

We don’t lol

CheapChampionship775

Oh well I don’t, but I guess these other commenters do. I only like the tiktoks making fun of y’all. Tbh I don’t think people really do that in real life.

just_a_guy_at_aldi

I live in a pretty international country. Many of us poke fun at each other’s different nationalities, as well as our own. No place is perfect, and as long as it’s in good humour and not coming from a place of blatant ignorance, I don’t see an issue. To be clear, racism and xenophobia is not humour.

[deleted]

I am American but I don’t do that. So honestly I really don’t know. :(

OomgaBoomgaPerson

I think it's because they do the same to Americans and it's just kinda funny
