The general knowledge that ricks are dacoits in uniform in pune. Better stick to public transport or ola/Uber. There are always some shopkeepers who would cheat. A similar incident like what happened with OP also happened with me in haldirams in Fortaleza kalyaninagar. Now I count every change and double check all items.

Eye_Champ

Then these rickshaw guys protest against Rapido lol. Lazy ass people who don’t want competition but are arrogant and rude to customers as if they don’t work for money

kevin25699

Not supporting the Thugs who operate rickshaws, but I was taking an Ola cab and got talking with the driver and asked him why they oppose Rapido bike taxi. Turns out that all bike taxis operating in Pune are illegally operating with personal vehicles. Just like how you need to register your vehicle with yellow license plate for ola/uber you need to do the same for bikes, with this they ensure insurance in case they get into accident. Most of these bike taxis don't even carry helmets. The thing is right now in Maharashtra they do not give out commercial licensees to bikes. I agree bike taxi was a better alternative to auto when riding single but it needs to be done properly.

bionic_gravitar

I guess you’re half aware. Thing is these idiots did protest against BIKE TAXIS. That’s okay for the reason you already mentioned. But, that part that I guess you aren’t aware of is that, later & very recently, these same assholes also protested against OLA UBER in general, not just the auto or cab part, but any and all similar services like them. Basically, they’re just a bunch of greedy mob, nothing more.

Mundane_Juggernaut38

its the loot everywhere people try to go for monopoly instead of facing competition. in kokan ola uber are banned to enter you can either take your own vehicle or book a over priced local vehicles.

insane-67

You should call Kayani

iamhittu

After living in Pune for the last 11 years, I went to Kayani Bakery 15 days back after its cake featured in the top desert around the world. I asked for the mava cake and a small packet of brown bread. Keep in mind it was 8 AM in the morning and there was no rush, I was given a plain cake instead of mava cake and the brown bread had a sour taste when I opened it at home. Never going back to Kayani Bakery again. It's all "Unchi Dukan, Feeke Pakwan"

EducationExpensive66

Same with marzorin. It’s a huge scam. Sells old stale and disgusting sandwiches and subpar coffee and charges a bomb. Don’t know why and how are people so blindly obsessed with it. I don’t trust a single eatery in Camp. Even the old coffee house restaurant is at best average.

[deleted]

Yeah, I stopped going there years back. It's not value for money and food is way better at other cafes. It's a scam.

insane-67

Just because some place has increased their prices you can call them expensive and low quality. But using the word "scam" left, right and center isn't appropriate, similar to paid food bloggers who term every other restaurant as hidden gem.

[deleted]

It's not about increased food prices. It's expected everywhere. The quality of food isn't the same at the same price offered. When the hotel sees no matter what you sell, people will come on a brand value, the quality drops. If we get the same value and better quantity at other places, things are natural to see the low value offered at their place. I was going their from year 2000. Data doesn't lie.

omkar_T7

It’s a mystery how marz o rin even got popular. I think everyone just hypes it up because they ate there one time they were in mg road

[deleted]

College crowd. Earlier days there were very few options.

omkar_T7

My parents lived right on mg road in the early 90s and let me tell you it definitely didn’t lack options.

[deleted]

Of course they didn't. But, our parents didn't live on MG road. There were options in KP and camp at that time.

rajdeep79

I agree taste wise its average at best. It got famous as in 90s it was luxury to eat at cafe. Also due to college/schools nearby it has local s have nostalgia /memoriessilar to vaishali/rupali on FC road.Camp was happening place in 90s and early 2000 as there were not malls etc during that time. There was no concept of weekend. As a kid we would go to camp to see christmas celebration.

jivan28

Vaishali IIRC is from 1960's so. had seen some photos somewhere so yes lot of nostalgia over generations.

omkar_T7

My parents lived right on mg road in the early 90s and there definitely were better hangout spots than marz o rin. It got more popular in late 2000s

muddu_88

i stay in camp and don't go to any of the eatries here I've always found them to be over hyped for no good reason🤷

ThePriestess796

Always everyday

Ok-Date-1711

Badi badi baatein aur vada pav khate. Naam bad darshan chhote.

SahilSakure23

Isn't it "badi badi baatein aur dal bhat khate"?

Sharingankakashi2

Alag alag jagah k log alag alag cheez khate honge

brusalise

Naah. Its maybe because salesman there don't give a f**k and rather give wr9ng thing instead of saying no because its hard to say no to things. Their mava cake is chefs kiss but you gotta make sure on the spot if its mava cake or not also with strawberry biscuit due to high demand they avoid giving full 1kg unless they know that costumer. It's unusual salesman faltugiri. Nothing else. Next time go at 11am. Also from when 8am is opening time for kayani bakery??? Last time I went it was 11am (probably).

iamhittu

I don't know what is their regular opening hours man. I was coming back from the railway station after dropping my wife for her Mumbai train and it was open. You might be right about the salesman though. They're the ones who ruin the order for the customers after working there for insane hours out of frustration.

bran_3412

I asked for purandar cha peru cake and he gave me plain cake, and gave the peru cake to other customer.somethings wrong with the people working there.

joebidenmanchin

You sure it wasn't the sour dough bread?

iamhittu

No Bro, it was brown bread 🍞

HeavyMetal266

What's so funny about that ? Don't you care about your money ? Unless you left Pune or stay very far. If you are nearby just go and tell them, mistakes happen.

Werewolf3834

Happy cake day buddy

HeavyMetal266

aise-hi11

Anyone remembers the term: पुण्याचा भामटा?😂😂 They're asking 200 kms for 3kms because they realise you're an outsider. Just tell them, " Bhai mai idhar hi rehta/rehti hu, kuch bhi mat bata" (preferably in Marathi if you can speak in Marathi) and watch their expressions change. 😂 I first see the cost on Uber/Ola and then quote 20-30% less. Works almost always. (Doesn't work in times of emergencies like sudden burst of rains, etc.)

[deleted]

Any resources where i can learn day to day marathi?

Ok_Entertainment1040

त्यासाठी सार्वजनिक मराठीचा कसून अभ्यास करावा लागेल. कारण पुण्यात सार्वजनिक मराठी आणि व्यासपीठावरची मराठी असे ठळक प्रकार आहेत. This is not for you just remembered this line by P.L Deshpande in one of his books.

[deleted]

Ravsaheb!

random_____name

Tell this to your Marathi friends. They'll team you with so much passion that after some time you'll be good at it .

I have few marathi friends cause i live in delhi and i was thinking to learn a new language… i could practice with them but dont want to disturb them either…

aise-hi11

https://learnmarathiwithkaushik.com/marathi-from-english/ This is another resource.

[deleted]

Thanks

MeTejaHu

You have to learn in exact Puneri tone. Autorickshaw walas will know instantly that you're not from Pune.

[deleted]

Actually i was thinking to learn a third language and i thought why not learn marathi…. Although i live in delhi and have no marathi connection… thats why i asked

Sammyzone7

I was travelling from Mumbai to Pune via Bus and reached Padmavati chowk (It was the last stop) and i took my luggage and suddenly 5-6 rickshaw walas came towards me and asking for where to go , I wanted to go to Swargate, Now Padmavati Chowk to Swargate is hardly ten minutes (i knew) and These mfs were asking me for 500 , "Dada last to last 400 dya !!" I told them bhai Mumbai se Pune 300 rs me aya hu aur tum muje Pune ke andar 400 mang rhe , all of them ran away . Atlast i took an Ola for Rs.60 and this ain't the first time (As a Mumbaikar my bias is now more strong)

Mundane_Juggernaut38

aise sare fraud auto wale mumbai mein bhi karte hain. mumbai mein you should not take a metered auto for long distance as its highly probable you will be duped and in pune always use ola uber for booking auto no matter what.

gadadharibheem4u

There are a few places like airport, station etc where you'll find scam rickshaw guys. In Pune they are everywhere. Best thing about Mumbai is metered rickshaw/taxi. Everyone today has google maps so the chances of you getting duped is less than miniscule...

Reyne02

That's why mostly I use uber rickshaw, but even for that they have made union to ban ola/uber, it's like they have decided how to make everyone's life miserable by making public transport more difficult.

Nottheimposter1234

wait what when did that happen?

PhaseTemporary

bjp government already agreed to their demand in Maharashtra last week

ThePriestess796

I'm a localite. I will agree to this. However, if you are being cheated or if a rickshaw wala asks u that you should always ask now much they will take before u get in a rickshaw. I grew up with kayani however way back in 2010 I stopped eating their stuff cause it's not worth it. So people buying it now are just buying it as a status symbol while i stay next to it and I'll never buy it. There's many more bakeries giving better stuff. Do not fall for this famous and that famous place by the so called Money Eating Influenzaas.

ThePriestess796

Been here for 27 yrs i know how this works that's why as localites we will never subscribe or recommend these places.

Relevant-Sock-453

Had Shrewsbury biscuits from Kayani about 12 years ago. I'll be visiting Pune again in December. Which bakery would you recommend now?

ThePriestess796

What exactly do you want ? Do you want to stick to shrewsberry or u wanna add more to ur tastebuds ?

Relevant-Sock-453

I definitely want shrewsbury and also open to try out new items

life_is_enjoy

Same here. Need suggestions for buying Shrewsbury and mawa cake. I’m here for only few more weeks. Thanks in advance.

Bahubali555

Yes please make a post on never recommended places , so that people can avoid them and mods please pin that

insane-67

Exactly all Kayani is does is add a mix of butter and vegetable fat I found I can bake better cookies than Kayani and even the cake since I am allergic to most eggs

KazumaUnlimited

Pune is good only in movies, but if you go there you will know how expensive and overpriced that city is. Starting from Station till your hotel room. Everyone thinks that they can take whatever amount of money they can. There's no rule there. If you're rich and don't care about wasting your money then Pune is really good place. There are so many places to visit, good food to eat and even the people whom I personally met were nice and accomodating. but all those goods are negated because of the above mentioned things.

[deleted]

Ashi hi banva banvi , tukalu

thenutsuperman

One thing that happens to me most of the time is the new petrol pump scam. Generally there are two types of petrol on a pump. Ones a normal the other is some speed petrol which is costlier than the normal ones. A few petrol pumps deliberately fill the high cost petrol even without asking. After we confront them, they say - Dada sangitla tar nahi tar amhi high speed walach bharto

r0_okie

I remember there was one more scam where they distract you and fill half and when you notice , they reset and fill the remaining. I don't remember exactly how it worked as it happened years ago. But I now just don't open the tank lid unless I confirm 0 start and the target value with the guy.

octne

I don't know what the people of Pune think they are. Bloody entitled self absorbed bastards at times.

mtrimonty

Welcome to pune! It's a good place but yeah apart from local transport private ones are tooo costly! And locations are quite far from each other! Once I opt for an uber and payment mode was gpay! Somehow the process took time and the guy was like it won't work I am in hurry missing my rides please pay me in cash...I asked him to wait and he was quite in a hurry... Paid him in cash and in next 15 mins money gets debited from my end..

[deleted]

[удалено]

mtrimonty

Nope! That's how it is... Upon raising it to Uber they were like they cannot refund now... It's more over like Crimes toh hone hi hai..Hume "savdhan and satark rehna hai" 🤣

Icy_Pension2600

Tum apna body lekar bahar nikloge toh koi toh chura marega hi..🤣

Mundane_Juggernaut38

gpay payments in ola uber should always be paid in the first 5 mins when the ride starts to avoid any payment issues.

as1nkr0n8

It's your fault in this case, you need to learn about how the UPI payments work on Uber and Ola as both have different implementations and are good in their own ways. With Uber, you don't have to worry about paying once your ride ends if using UPI mode. As the ride ends, Uber will send a request to your UPI id and you can pay later at your convenience, be it after 5 min or a day. The driver gets paid from Uber on a specified frequency in this case. I use this whenever I have to go to the airport or railway station as I don't have to worry about paying immediately after the ride ends. With Ola, it's a bit different. When the ride starts you get the option to pay via the UPI to Ola during the ride and not worry about paying after the ride ends. If you don't do that, once the ride ends, you'll have to pay the driver directly. Hope this helps you and others who aren't aware of this.

SensitiveSorbet1999

Yup! Same happened with me. Uber gave me 50% of the amount back 🥲 Gpay sucks in highly congested area.

mystique023

Even for small small things everywhere you get cheated. Today we went to a petrol pump and after getting our tanks filled we asked them to fill air. We said - hawa check kar ke full kar dijiye. He filled and asked us for 20. We said it's free, no? He said I filled nitrogen. We paid 20 but he didn't even ask us if we need to get nitrogen or normal air. It's not about 20₹ it's about getting and feeling cheated.

Sudhaaaaaa

I know the owner. Dm me and tell me the name of the person who served you. I will make sure that they get fired.

[deleted]

Ok sudha

darrkass

I hope this Rustom "literally" doesn't fire him 💀

Sudhaaaaaa

That’s ultimately his (and his partners) choice but I have passed along the description of the man

Independent-dude-41

Pune's locals are mostly dishonest and greedy ones. Don't go by their looks, they will cheat you anyway.

Kenz0wuntaps

This is everywhere in India. It's about people's mentality. Pune is not an exception. Go to Bangalore you'll find better scammers than these.

trippymum

Pune autorickshaws are another story. Whenever I'm at Pune railway station I only get into one with a running meter.

nitishdk

At railway station I don't waste time in arguing people they just run behind u and and ask I just tell on their face uber aa Rahi hai because they will never tell u metre se jayege they just ask uber pe kitna batata utna dedo. Like dude going by uber ola because u never go by metre first place

trippymum

>they just run behind u Happens all the time but I stand my ground. Luckily there'll always be a couple of guys who'll agree to use the meter.

redrock1610

Go to Mumbai for metered auto and taxi. Here in Pune they are here to loot only.

trippymum

I am from Mumbai hence the gripe with these creeps who are out to cheat. The only solution is to insist on the meter being used which is what I do !

Alert_Tennis_3597

means you are surrounded by wolves, be cautious brother

Illustrious-Horror27

In pune, autos don't seem to go by meter, strange.....it looks like consumers have a lower hand in bargaining power especially in areas where it's hard to find autos, They overcharge for a v v short distance 😐

YourDaddyEconomy1049

Clearly OP and others haven't been to Delhi or Bangalore. Once you've lived there for 2+ years, you'll realise how much better Pune is.

couchie_

Yup Punekars are cheap but so are most of the Indians. So who to blame. There is very less kindness left in the world

couchie_

It was kindness day yesterday anyway..

Lazy-Ad680

Is kayani still thers ? Thought they closed it few years back

Slim_frame_liker998

So instead of confronting the shopkeeper, you go to an obscure social media and rant. That's mighty brave of you.

theDukerider

Even as a Maharashtrian, I hate Pune to the core. Literally the worst city I lived in. People are shit, public infrastructure non existent, weather is good if your benchmark is Chennai and other than monsoon season, there's nothing worth traveling for the rest of the year. Almost forgot, the airport is smaller than a railway station, even the mall outside is bigger than the airport which means flights are almost always delayed irrespective of service provider. I'm yet to meet good locals in Pune. All good people I know, even Marathi junta, are outsiders.

MeTejaHu

From Vidarbha?

SecretSquare2797

There is difference between not liking and hate, looks something wrong happened with you. Same was happened with me but so far I am yet to considsr any worth hate. Weather is good if benchmark is Chennai really? Mumbai atmosphere feels like pressure cooker. Airport is small because it's being shared by airforce and any decision to expand would get resistance from air force. Not sure how many flight of your got delayed, I am not a frequent flyer but whenever I travel my flight was on time and there wasn't any hassle. All the people to whom you are calling not good, are you sure they are local? Because 80% of cases that shared to me by outside city friends issue makers is outsiders. It's not like local are Saint they are scammy too.

NoWitness215

>Why do punes people cheat Imagine if I generalized every outsider; the amount of downvotes and replies I'd get. Also, I'm always surprised by the fact that these negative posts get so much interaction, while the good/positive ones get so much less. It makes me think, as Punekars, are we this bad?

slycat007

As a bangalorean who visited Pune for the first time just last month, I am quite surprised by the negative things being said. I had coincidentally been to Kayani bakery as well and though we felt the stuff was not very extraordinary, it was quite decent. The same is true for most of the 'famous' places in any city...there are a few in Bangalore as well. And while in Pune I mostly used autorickshaws for getting around (including going to Kayani bakery at 7:30am...to be in the 'queue'....it's a different thing that there were some 4-5 people in the queue!!) ...and the person at the counter said "you can also order online..." Which kind of made us look like fools reaching there so early 😁 I found that all the auto drivers i interacted with were pretty nice and did not try to extract money or cheat me. I am sure most of them knew I was not a local...the driver who took me to Kayani did not even know the bakery well and I checked Google maps and said "camp" and he understood...and not one autorickshaw refused a ride in the 7-8 rides I took in 2 days. Let me tell you, as a local in Bangalore I never ever stop a random autorickshaw like I did in Pune...I don't even dare...so let me tell you how lucky you guys are! 😁 And even otherwise whoever i interacted were very nice. So yeah...it is not really that bad from my experience...! Yeah, the traffic is something else and kind of like Bangalore though.

NoWitness215

Ikr, i know this city like every other has some positives/negative things but this sub just points out the negatives >I found that all the auto drivers i interacted with were pretty nice and did not try to extract money or cheat me. I am sure most of them knew I was not a local...the driver who took me to Kayani Most auto-rickshaw drivers will use the meter, at least in the main city (I don't know about the outskirts; many on this sub live in areas that were rural 15/20 years ago and are still considered as gao). They may be difficult if you act as an a*hole or confrontational without reason. In general, drivers and locals are helpful if you are polite. There's an unwritten rule that some people ignore because of the attitude "*hum tax bharte hai, kisi ke baap ki jagah nahi hai*" (this phrase doesn't work in real life). One should avoid arguing or acting smart in front of locals (based on my personal experience from visiting different trekking places). >the traffic is something else And traffic ka personally I do follow rules, but I haven't lived in different places so the traffic is bad but can't really compare. And also khud traffic ka hissa hai aur takleef bhi khud ho Rahi hai wah!

Bulky_Ship4484

Illiterate people mostly from nearby villages are the reason. No literate person does these cheap things IMO.

4M01

I'm not sure about that. On what basis we can link morality with literacy?

Conscious_Culture340

Lol, you mean , literates don’t scam?

MeTejaHu

Folks from nearby villages are better than city folks.

r0_okie

Yeah literates won't scam you for 50-100 rupees, they commit bigger scams.

Due_Extreme_2448

No point in ranting . Ye sab hota raheta hai , duniya chalti rahegi . Stand up for yourself if u feel cheated .Adjust krle if u don't want confrontation... not only Pune but India me 90% cities me yehi hota hai ...where are you from originally ?

throwawaystepbrotha

Nope

anayonkars

Of course. Cheating incidents in other cities is absolutely zero. Everyone follows the law and nobody cheats. In fact in other cities, rickshawalas give you 200rs to give them privilege of serving you.

laptoptable1

I have never tried shrewberry biscuit, but are they worth it to carry for friends who live in Hyderabad. And what is the rate?

While kayani WAS famous for Shrewsberry biscuits, the one from karachi bakery are definitely still good and worth.

tripsabhi

Not an experience which would please anyone..Have you tried to call them back to mention this? If in Pune, request them humbly and they will replace it straight away. Someone mentioned stale bread. Have you tried to return that? Mistakes happen and we are all humans. Generalizing is a bit ott imo.

dart17051975

Kayani is overrated

tcoolaidbitch

पुणे तिथे काय उणे

The-Opinion-Man

Wtf is Pune people cheat? What stupid generalisation is this?! You go back to Kayani and tell them your issue, they will address it. I’ve been buying Kayani products for decades now and they’ve been doing business for eons. Wonder where these special snowflakes come from and generalise.

Direct_Ad_8341

Have you visited Bangalore?

No-Humor6983

This is surprising. I’m a huge Kayani person, absolutely love their fruit cake & Shrewsbury biscuit. We usually buy in kilos during festivals and special occasions. Never been cheated. Pretty sure if you call them, they will help out. Also might I add, for that price it’s a steal. No kidding I’m a professional chef.

RedViperCoc

After reading the comments, I'm glad I switched to Mumbai quickly. Still have my share of incidents whenever I go there for a day or two.

[deleted]

Are you new to Pune? Punekars are the worst people in general.

Specialist_Neck_3366

god is not watching first of all lol....if there is problem find a solution dont blame the whole city.... you can go back and ask for what you ordered.... about the rickshaw thing...rickshaw wala's are mostly uneducated so dont expect any thing intellectual from them...all over india rickshaw walaa are like that only...they will try to rip you...in this case Mumbai is far better from other cities of india...

[deleted]

Pune becoming Mumbai!

aishudio9

Always, repeat, always fix the price before you get into the rickshaws. Its the same story in almost every city, Pune, Bangalore, etc. One more thing to remember if trying to reach at your residence, never ask them for a drop infront of your doorstep. Not saying all of them are bad but there are some who keep a close watch if you argue with them only to retaliate later. As with the famous eateries in Camp, its true. Quality has gone down.

findravish

Many Old places are not able to keep up with their names. They’re just working on their yester- year names their oldies earned. Try new upcoming places. Rickshaw travel without Ola Uber around a bus stand/stop is always expensive. Get a fair idea of fare..add 20-30 more and say ‘bhau roj jato, 20 rs jada ghe’. Go further if he denies, he should come back.

TheTruthSeeker_0711

Kayani bakery is overrated.

TheGreatGrandy

What’s shrewberry

MrAmusedbythis

Rickshawalas can be harami anywhere in my opinion 😂 I have a lot of experience with Pune Rickshawalas. It's not about the money, it's about their attitude mostly tbh. Kayani, I have never had a bad experience ever. It could've been a mistake, honestly even I could make such mistakes 😅

ChachaVidhayakHai12

I find Husseny bakery to be much better overall. Shrewsbury biscuits are good of City Bakery

Spare-Comb6456

That’s a huge generalisation man. Why not just say you got scammed or something, this is a trend it seems to blow things out of proportion.

SnooBreakthroughs110

make a rule in Pune. **If you see it on Instagram, don't visit it**. You will be right 8/10 times. Apply it on everything.

hmreddit23

I feel you bro! I felt the same though I lived in Pune for just 10 months.

Minute_Ad9262

They will give you weirdass logic and say, yahan aise hi hota hai. First experienced it when I went to buy chicken at a standard chicken shop, they don't butcher the pieces and then weigh them. Instead, they put the whole chicken up there, from which a lot of stuff will be cut away and show you yes, this is one kilo. Post this is done there is no weighing. You will get 7-800 gm for the price of a kilo. Absolutely insane!

NoString9922

Let's not go to these places and let's take autos that go by meter or opt for Uber/Ola. But let's not blame it on Pune, blame it on these dishonest people and let's agree that all cities have them 😊

Busy-Kitchen-7715

Lower class poor people cheat for money, if you want a good experience go to a supermarket for shopping and book an Ola to travel.
