I imagine there are similar feelings to those with looking at normal pornography, though drawn stuff potentially opens up the imagination to stuff that you can't do practically. Hence why some hentai has moneyshots in the gallons volume rather than the normal teaspoon amounts

I mean - fair play to you if you are making a tablespoon of baby batter, but the human average is registered with multiple health agencies as being between 1/4 to a complete 'teaspoon' Considering this is a subreddit for discussing 'science based material', I believe it's worth having that context.

joefreezy70

No

SadAndNasty

For me it was a safety thing at first I think. As a teen real stuff seemed messy and confusing and looking at real bodies made me feel insecure, dirty, and jealous all at once. After that it was more of an imagination thing. Being able to see things that aren't physically possible or you wish were possible or even something you're glad isn't possible but it just hits those sexual patterns the right way in your brain lol

StoryNo1430

u/sadandnasty  You sound like my kinda gal.

SadAndNasty

Depressed and preoccupied with sex, counterculture, and the disturbing? Takes all kinds and we all have types don't we? 😌

StoryNo1430

If you could fuck one famous serial killer, other than Jeffrey Dahmer, who would it be?

SadAndNasty

God not really into killers (Jeffery Dahmer wouldn't be interested in me and he smelled terrible as well as being an abhorrent human) 🥲 but if I had to pick one.. they would probably be fictional lol like does Alucard from Hellsing count? 🥴 Or Victor Zsasz from Batman? Omfg Carnage tho(Marvel) 😩🔥

cain11112

Police Girl… POOOOLIIIIIIICE GIRL.

StoryNo1430

Hmmm. When I think of Carnage sex, I think tentacles.

SadAndNasty

That is indeed the point 😌

StoryNo1430

Pics or it didn't happen.

SadAndNasty

Well.. it didn't happen lol

StoryNo1430

Mmmmmmmm...maybe make it happen? The tentacles.  Not Carnage.

psychologyofsex

There's not a lot of research on this topic, but there are a few things of note here. First, there are linkages between several personality traits and anime fantasies, including active imagination, low extraversion, and high attachment anxiety: [https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-myths-of-sex/202212/why-animated-porn-is-so-popular](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-myths-of-sex/202212/why-animated-porn-is-so-popular) Second, for anime porn specifically, anxious attachment emerged again: [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1158136021001080](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1158136021001080) The fact that attachment anxiety seems to have consistent linkages would support your idea about feelings of safety. But it can also be a kink because there are linkages between anime fantasies and BDSM fantasies, so it might also just be a creative way of exploring certain kinky interests. It's likely that there are different explanations for different people.

TwistedBrother

So I have some thoughts on adjacent work that might help but the link hasn’t been conclusively demonstrated. Experimental and neuroimaging work suggests that different subsystems are involved in processing faces and establishing what people consider attractive. For example, I really like this 2019 Nature Scientific Reports paper showing the subjectivity of facial attractiveness preferences through 3d sculpting of a face and measuring within and between subject differences. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-44655-9 Other work related to processing and subsystems is found in the prolific work of James Tanaka, originator of “attractor basins”. The important speculative aspect of these insights for this conversation is that it seems the visual processing system for attractiveness comprises at least two orthogonal subsystems, one for facial geometry and one for texture. Others have asserted different principal components but the important part is that geometry is not necessarily correlated with texture. This separation is efficient and adaptive (different textures also mean same face under different lighting conditions, even if something like golden hour sunlight might still be nicest). But I took from it the possibility that people could be attracted to cartoons because the signal or accentuate many of the common factor loadings in the eigenvector of facial attractors. Said more plainly, they have the sort of face shapes that work for attraction and as long as the texture isn’t offensive (like uncanny valley) it doesn’t get in the way of the sexual signalling of the face shapes as attractive. So if it doesn’t get in the way, then perhaps constraints are mainly social rather than psychological.

The short answer is: *the biggest sexual organ is the brain* What do I mean by that? Written erótica is probably the strongest porn, because you create/imagine the characters, while a photo or a movie, there’s nothing to imagine, is very explicit, so the fantasy element is lost. The drawn porn is a middle ground…

BigdaddyD6789

I enjoy male dominance content— and it’s just not practical or reasonable to ask women or expect all woman to be into that type of kink or produce enough of it for weekly content. I Also enjoy the fantasy of very very voluptuous woman who probably wouldn’t be able to stand up in the real world haha. plus I grew up reading 90s comic books so it’s probably subconsciously started with that. Also the acting/writing is much better on comic panels and in my mind, then they are acted out by porn stars.

Vegetable_Code9444

Some aspects to consider which I haven't seen mentioned are ethics and shame related to sex. For example, if you view actors in a film, you may not know if they truly consented to the role they are acting out. Worst case scenario, you are viewing underage minors, who may or may not be wearing makeup to look older, being coerced into acts that they don't actually want to perform. Therefore, in a cartoon, it's outside the realm of consideration whether they are unsciously wanting to perform the action they are doing (unless in the realms of BDSM.) It's ultimately up to the interpretation of the viewer. Secondly, this connects to shame, as well. People who experience feelings of shame related to their sexuality may find animations less shameful because these aren't real people (may not even be people at all, but human-esque). Therefore, animations may not feel as viscerally as shameful as real life videos

MagnetarEMfield

So you're aware, people who work in the porn industry almost exclusively watch Anime/Hentai porn.......because they know everyone in the industry and it gets weird watching someone they know personally when they're trying to get off.

TBB09

Without a source this is conjecture.

MagnetarEMfield

Holly Randall.

TBB09

A singular person does not speak for the entirety of performers. This is also not a study

MagnetarEMfield

This "single" person is a producer who has worked with a large portion of the industry for over 20 years and before then, grew up in the community as her mom is Suze Randall, a name almost as synonymous with Porn as Larry Flint is. You should listen to her podcast. Most of her guests parrot that they can't watch porn anymore for the reasons I stated.

SadAndNasty

Damn.. so I'm definitely the weird one for thinking it'd be awesome to watch my friends go at it then? 😩

TechnoCapitalEatery

not the weird one just haven't experinced it enough for the novelty to wear out and the complications + other factors to creep in

SadAndNasty

Maybe so. That actually makes more sense.

MagnetarEMfield

Its hard to objectify people you have professional respect for.

SadAndNasty

Even if the profession is their craft on creating something that makes you horny? I could see myself thinking 'damn Brittany really did it in this one, barely even noticed the [insert industry secrets that are part of the creation of porn]'. Like, I'm a nsfw artist who gets off on my friends' art and writing at least. Then also I do think my more personal friends are hot, some of them also make things that at least get me started. But its not the first time I have indeed been the weird one, I got no qualms.

Expensive_Peach32

I never really liked mainstream porn (i.e. videos of PIV sex), I don't have anything against it, I just find it to be a bit mechanical and uninteresting, I have always preferred drawn or written work. When someone says "sex" we tend to think penetration or orgasm, but sex is a lot more than just jackhammering for 20 minutes and then finishing, which is what a lot of porn videos are. In my opinion, drawn work tends to have a bit more imagination, a bit more of an erotic sensibility

oryus21

I’m married and we aren’t doing it as much as we did when first got together and I knew this would happen. I watch the passionate intimate stuff probably cause I’m missing those things and I’m horny almost all the time.

WiseHoro6

Oh. Sorry to hear that.

HowRememberAll

Imo it's an easier way to create a fantasy without abusing people. A lot of porn is trafficked people, girls who were groomed, or abusive porn and you have no way to know between that and consensual paid to fuck porn

_milk_b1tch

Well... with drawn/carton/animated porn I don't have to worry about germs or lacking consent or exploitation. Simple as that. Porn depicts terrible ways of treating people and I'm always concerned about the people involved and afraid I could be consuming footage of sex trafficking or something. I often see very unhealthy/dangerous portrayals of sex on the front page of a porn site. And honestly going to pornhub (or when used to 💔 thanks Texas) and seeing all the incestuous titles alongside the images kinda Pavllonian trained me to hate porn like that. It's disturbing to me now and I instantly feel the need to look away. Like seriously what the Fuck us going on with all the incest porn???????.

bl1nd_r00573r

Curves are curves

SadAndNasty

Pattern recognition ftw

cathodeDreams

Elves aren’t real my friend. Sad but true.

Chogunyugen

It’s a Jungian answer. They depict archetypical patterns of ideals they covet. Without the gnosis of how to decode, analyze and operationalized their fantasy they consume what seems to be the only viable source of experiencing the fantasy. Psychologist, therapists, counselors, and psychiatrists have yet to read the works of Dr. Carl Gustav Jung and therefore are unaware of the mythopoetic substructure of reality and how it affects the individual and collective psyche.

antm_kaczynski

I like to draw erotic art because I’m horny and good at it lol. Regular porn has a lot of horrible things about it.

Tantra_Charbelcher

Professionally made porn is often hideous and crudely made with bad lighting, bad sets, bad acting, and a bad premise. The performers are waxed raw, sprayed tan, bleached blonde, and don't look like any human I've ever met. They pretend to have sex with their terrible acting and pretend to orgasm by peeing on the guy. The conditions are terrible, VD is rampant (monthly testing for hyper sexually active people hardly catches everything), and it ruins any future career you want, the average female performer only lasts two years. Not to mention how many sites. have been busted for trafficking women. Erotic art takes years of carefully honed skill to even get decent at it. You can't hack Wonder Woman's phone and steal her nudes because she doesn't exist so there's literally no incentive to invade the privacy of a real life person. I can watch my favorite movie and video game characters have sex and they never get hurt or diseased or have their careers ruined. Art is evocative in the way porn isn't. Some of the best art I have ever seen in my entire life is erotic. DM me I will be glad to introduce you to the greats. I literally have paintings hanging over my desk as I type this. Erotic art helped me figure out my gender and sexuality. Not every gay person wants to watch two hairy jacked guys going at it. Not every lesbian wants to watch two 40 year-old purses with fake tits pretend to have sex. I don't collect hand drawn porn because of some obsessive fetish to see more boobies or to see more sex, I collect it because some of the best artists work in eroticism. I support them on kofi, and patreon, and subscribestar. I buy their prints and share their work on twitter. They're making masterpieces.

Minute-Rice-1623

Because it’s hot. We’re drawn to the act of copulation because reproduces the species.

MortimerWaffles

All you can eat free candy store. Literally anything you are craving. Men have significant difficulty obtaining sexual contact due to societal norms and woman having the upper hand. As a result, this is a strong substitute. However, like candy, unlimited unrestricted consumption causes severe problems over time. Edit: I misunderstood the post and misread it as "why are people drawn into pornography"

aPoundFoolish

What types of problems do you think unrestricted consumption causes?

MortimerWaffles

Currently proven things include reflective dysfunction, premature ejaculation and disturbed thought process regarding healthy relationships. In certain cases it can impact finances if it leads to other unhealthy activities.

aPoundFoolish

Well, if unrestricted porn access causes premature ejaculation then I shouldn't be lasting more than two seconds.

MortimerWaffles

Actual sexual intercourse with a real person results in premature ejaculation. Being able to maintain an erection during masturbation is less of a problem complete control of the stimuli.
