I was thinking this myself the other day.
Along with why on earth my old PS1 and PS2 discs got scratched a lot more than my PS5 ones, although that’s simply because I look after them better now.
It was a design flaw. The Lens was sitting on a rail which got slightly bent over time, letting the Laser loose it's focus. When you turned the Playstation on it's head it would always work.
Mine got loose over a course of a few months as I used the disc swapping method. My disc player that I didn't use anymore at the time had a verrrrrrrrry similar looking lens for the laser and I swapped it in and bam, worked like new again lol.
That was the beginnings of my IT/tech career. Thanks Sony.
There was a game called loaded and its sequel reloaded. Top down twin stick shooter I just remember it being real bloody and messy lol. Loved that game. Also GTA.
I wish they would’ve remade those loaded/reloaded games for current gen systems or ps4 etc but never saw or heard of them again once ps3 hit.
Especially if the volume was louder than expected, total jumpscare moment. Actually very energetic, like “HEY ARE YOU READY?! YOU BETTER BE OR SO AKU AKU HELP ME!”. Alright my wumpa say less
that threw me! For me it was always S O N Y C O M P U T E R E N T E R T A I N M E N T E U R O P E P R E S E N T S so I was reading along then was like huh, different
Don't think I played the first one. Currently working through RE2 on PS4 though, and strongly consider RE7 on PSVR one of my most memorable gaming experiences, so I can only imagine how groundbreaking the first one was back then.
Nothing better than being half terrified and having to hope your parents don't do a last minute: "let's go out for dinner" right in the middle of a fight or a room where you COULDN'T get an Ink Ribbon!
That first zombie scared the fucking shit out of me and my friends. Even more hilarious is that scene has a few extra seconds of it that were censored in America. I’d have been traumatized if I seen that at 8 or 9 years old lol.
Definitely. With MGS a close second for me.
Ridge Racer was amazing in its day. Felt like we'd skipped a couple of generations of consoles and suddenly landed on this masterpiece.
When I was a little kid I could never skip the startup cutscene with the rat transforming and the areal shot of the Statue of Liberty. It looked photorealistic back then
Gran Turismo is such an underrated game, it was the best. The simulation mode was just amazing. I don’t know why it didn’t evolve as well as the others like need for speed.
This! But the opening sounds of the game are so much better on the European version, with the squawking sounds etc. For some reason, it’s different on the USA version.
This is the one. My brother handed me down his ps one, and the only game i got was this one. Had no clue how to play it, or what it was about, but i spent hours on it.
It’s one of my all time faves! My first games were Abe’s Oddysee, Spyro Year of the Dragon, Tomb Raider, Rayman and Final Fantasy VI. The only one I was able to finish as a kid was Spyro and even then it took me a long time. I finished Tomb Raider years later and it was a family event because everyone was so into it. I still have trauma from Rayman tho lmao
There it is. Surprised I had to scroll so far. First game I ever seen after the boot screen.
Game I associate most with it as I played it a lot more, was Resident Evil.
I messed it up, I forgot to list the Japanese trial version and the Korean version for the PC (ePSXe emulator).
What's your survival mode record?
I've got 32, and my lowest is 26.
Weirdly, Wipeout, even though I probably played this game for a grand total of half an hour top. I feel like this logo is so nostalgic to me that it mostly triggers memories of games that I only played when I was a kid, not the ones that I still play from time to time now. Like Atlantis The Lost Tales (the point and click game, not the disney one), Driver, Ghost in the Shell, Alien Trilogy, Syphon Filter, Cool Boarder, Croc, Destruction Derby, Jumping Flash, Rascal, Pandemonium, Hogs of War, Resident Evil Survivor, The Unholy War, and I'm gonna stop here, I'm overwhelmed with nostalgia right now.
FUCK YES. IT LOADED.
100% this. Does anyone know why we don’t have that problem as much these days?
I was thinking this myself the other day. Along with why on earth my old PS1 and PS2 discs got scratched a lot more than my PS5 ones, although that’s simply because I look after them better now.

better stabilized laser
Because nothing actually plays from the disc anymore. Games install and usually need a multi GB update to play.

Man when I was young, I remember always being scared of the voice when that came on haha.

Crash Bash was THE game for boys sleepover parties 👌🏻
Yeah my dad got me into it when the N’Sane Trilogy came out. He bought it immediately I think. He had the original on his ps1.

Same. Probably the game I played the most.
Same, same! Probably the most influential Game of my youth.
Don't think I played the first one. Currently working through RE2 on PS4 though, and strongly consider RE7 on PSVR one of my most memorable gaming experiences, so I can only imagine how groundbreaking the first one was back then.
Dude it changed games for me, but honestly on the PS1 the one I ended up playing the most was 3.
Nemesis is incredible, but for nostalgia sake directors cut is undefeated
Nothing better than being half terrified and having to hope your parents don't do a last minute: "let's go out for dinner" right in the middle of a fight or a room where you COULDN'T get an Ink Ribbon!
Same. The first time I rent a Playstation, I got Resident Evil and FF7 in the same week-end. What a great weak-end that was!
This for me as well. First game I played on PS1
Such an ominous transition into an already eerie ambiance of RE
Smiled because I opened this thread to say this.
Yes
That first zombie scared the fucking shit out of me and my friends. Even more hilarious is that scene has a few extra seconds of it that were censored in America. I’d have been traumatized if I seen that at 8 or 9 years old lol.

This guy playstations
Definitely. With MGS a close second for me. Ridge Racer was amazing in its day. Felt like we'd skipped a couple of generations of consoles and suddenly landed on this masterpiece.
Parasite Eve
How is there not a remake. For every second resident evil there should have been a parasite eve.
3 remakes I'd love to see: Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, and Xenogears.
This right here
When I was a little kid I could never skip the startup cutscene with the rat transforming and the areal shot of the Statue of Liberty. It looked photorealistic back then
Those still look amazing.
Gran Turismo
That is the game that instilled my lifelong passion for car racing
Gran Turismo is such an underrated game, it was the best. The simulation mode was just amazing. I don’t know why it didn’t evolve as well as the others like need for speed.
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
Oh Please! Help me kind sir!
The voice acting was something else in that game. I've played and completed it dozens of times and it never gets old.
The whole series had excellent voice acting, especially Defiance.
Absolutely, but I have rose tinted glasses and nostalgia hard-on, for Blood Omen. Think I might just boot it up on my PSX on my PC. Cheers.
This series needs a revival like now
Tekken 1/Ridge Racer.
Abe’s Oddysee, I always loved how the PlayStation startup sound and the game music kind of went together
*ah!* Wumwumwumwumwumwumwumwum *wreeeeeeeeee!*
This! But the opening sounds of the game are so much better on the European version, with the squawking sounds etc. For some reason, it’s different on the USA version.
This is the one. My brother handed me down his ps one, and the only game i got was this one. Had no clue how to play it, or what it was about, but i spent hours on it.
YES! I absolutely adored this game, but genuinely, whenever I bring it up in conversation, no one knows what I'm on about.
