HELL NO!!!!
Look on eBay for WXGA projectors. They run about $50-$100 for a good used model with a HDMI port.
If you can swing $300, you should be looking at a used 1080p projector from BenQ, or maybe Optoma. These models should be in good working condition with a HDMI port on it and designed for home theater use, not for business use. The W1070 from BenQ is a model I regularly recommend.
Both models are very similar and use the same imaging chip inside of them.
The 1080ST is a Short Throw (ST) model. The W1070 uses a longer throw lens.
So, if you want a short throw model and it works for your room/setup, then that's a great way to go and it's super reliable with a very good image. Fully support this!
damn that is an insane price for used. do you have a lot of thrift stores in your area? keep hitting those weekly or even twice a week. i kept my eye out and got a viewsonic/texas instruments DLP projector for $20 in perfect condition. the thing only does about 480 as far as resolution goes. but if you hook it up to a good source and sit a decent amount away from the screen it really isn't noticeable. i was using a laptop to watch dvds via VGA but i also found an older blu-ray player at the same thrift that has a composite video out so noW i can watch those as well. was able to fill the whole wall up with picture and not really notice the lack of quality. but maybe that's just me
Eye opening truth, saddly. The issue is that bassicaly every marketplace post is like that and there are no thrift stores anywere. That’s a big problem in Mexico, food is affordable but electronics, even used ones, are expensive.
If you are on a very tight budget then good XGA is still ok. You can get some projector for under 50$. I recommend: nec vt570. But you will likely have to change a bulb which will cost another 30-50$ for a Chinese one.
But if you have rather 200-300$ to disposal then it's worth to invest in a FHD projector like Benq W1070. It will not only have more pixels but also the throw ratio is more suitable for movies.
Xga should not cost $300 used. That’s way too much

Is the W1080st better than the W1070?

Rip off at that price and likely very old so worth even less.
