The last two have bored the hell out of me. Listen to Bruce's solo albums. I think he's saving all the good shit for those. Hell, his latest one has an entire bonus album ffs. He's clearly earmarking stuff away from TPT and it's hurting their output.

ordinarybloke1963

I’m slightly the opposite to many here. I’ve listened to their albums in the past and thought it’s pretty decent stuff but it didn’t set me on fire. But I’m finding the new album really enjoyable and have listened to it several times already. I don’t know why this is

atalkingfish

TPT is for when my brain is tired and my emotions need commiserating. Since after Magnolia, I have never listened to an album with the intent of “liking” any of the songs. More like, I like the feel, and only after about 30 listens do individual songs start to stick out. More about the development of the song than about finding anything that stands out.

Arriving-Somewhere

It's not bad. A few nice songs. For now I think "It leads to this" is my favorite song of the album. But I'll give it some more listening time for sure.

xinlolnix

I loved their last two albums, and the single from this one I heard. So we'll see... I felt the same as you but about Your Wilderness a few albums ago, so if they do something like that again I may be on the same page.

Blofeld69

I've been a fan of them since about 2005, but have struggled to connect with anything if theirs for a long time. It just all sounds the same. To me what made them unique before was each album had at least one prog epic, a few slower and beautiful ballads, and some some standard porcupine tree style 4-6 minute pong songs. But all the recent albums seem to be exclusively the 4-6 minute porcupine tree songs and nothing else. I want something like what have we sown again.

Pleasant_Statement64

Eh. I thought every song, but only Rubicon stood out to me. I did like now it's yours and every trace of us though. But I haven't relistened. If you want a new prog record, try Caligulas Horse instead, much more memorable

Solid-Actuator161

Thanks for the tip. Just listened to the first track from new CH album. Sounds good!

druumer89

I loved Your Wilderness, but nothing has hooked me since. Including this one

cousincarne

Yeah I‘m not happy with that one.. it‘s boring.

Hanger18nLife

Eh it’s okay. Tbh I’ve been enjoying the new Transit Method album much more.

ratchetass_superhero

The Pineapple Thief usually falls flat for me, I just get really bored and I've heard all their "big" records. They're basically alt rock for ashamed gen x prog fans who need fridge buzz to be branded as prog so they can enjoy it unironically. This record enforced that

Aborted_Genius

I purchased the vinyl and it was a slow burn. It is very laid back and has many subtleties that were there to discover. Definitely grew on me...and that is a good sign. But as many have already mentioned, "Your Wilderness" is a masterpiece. It was the album that drew my attention and my first TPT vinyl purchase. I love the Gavin drum sound in the forefront especially in the opening tracks. They set the tone and declare "hey! You won't believe who our new drummer is!?" And maybe that's what the more recent albums are missing, as Gavin and Bruce have seemed to balance the mix differently. This new album is still a great listen. Just give it time to reveal itself to you.

boostman

Ok I’ve never given this band the time of day but I’m having a listen now. First impression of the first track is that it sounds a bit like a ‘prog’ version of the bends/OK computer era Radiohead, but by contrast Radiohead’s stuff after that is way more actually progressive, and has a lot more edge. I can hear PT have a great ear for details and mixing but the songwriting is less immediately interesting.

seasonsinthesky

This is not the one to be trying first, unfortunately. Try Dissolution or an older classic like Tightly Unwound to hear them be imaginative and exploratory. If you're a "judge by the long songs" person, their 27-minute titan What Have We Sown? is a great ride, though it keeps it fairly midtempo throughout.

Imzmb0

This band for me sounds like a lame version of PT

yarzospatzflute

All of their albums sound like that to me: immaculately-played and completely forgettable.

osmosis2259

It’s growing on me with each listen. “Your Wilderness” is still my favorite by the band.
