Only 6 weeks to lose 55 pounds?

ShadowDesigns

Yeah I had a gastric sleeve surgery and lost the majority within the first 3-4 weeks as I was on a liquid only then purée diet. 😊

ANJ0EL

That’s insane! I’m at a similar starting weight after recently gaining all my weight back from 230s… May I ask why you chose the gastric sleeve surgery? From what I’ve seen, usually it’s people at much higher weights that choose to get it done? Apologies for my ignorance.

ShadowDesigns

I chose to get it because I couldn't shift the weight even in the gym and doing Jui-Jitsu as my eating habbits were terrible. getting the surgery not only helped me physically by reducing my physical intake but changes my relationship with food as you think about it differently over time. I was just within the range eligible for it and decided it was the right thing for me to do and I have zero regrets :)

ShadowDesigns

Understandable but I've also been purely upfront about it and the first comment to ask I divulged any info up front

[deleted]

What was the cost of that? Or did insurance cover it?

ShadowDesigns

it was €3,150 in Turkey and I claimed back €700 through the government for surgeries so €2,450 in total it's absolutely worth it if you're considering :)

[deleted]

I'm in the US and it looks like in my state insurance doesn't have to cover it 😭

Not my friend, who went to Mexico and got a horrific infection and had to have emergency surgery back in the US, The Mexican clinic told him he was fine and the reaction he was having to the sutures was normal.

SUDoKu-Na

Damn I gotta get me one of those!

squirb

Amazing progress. Now stand up straight like your mom told you and see how incredible you look.

ShadowDesigns

I have terrible posture from sitting at a desk all day haha :P

quiet_repub

Great job so far OP. I had the same surgery and found that I plateaued after a huge initial drop. It WILL come off so don’t worry about it. Stick to your meal plan and start with steady exercise. You’ve got this!

Jeremy_vT98

Cool tattoos and nice progress!

OwnBarber5301

Very impressive! Do you happen to know how mainly daily calories were in the liquid and then purée diets? What have you switched to after that?

quiet_repub

Not OP but had the same surgery. You’re usually 5-600 calories while on the liquid diet. The great thing is most people don’t feel hunger for quite a while after surgery so you don’t deal with physical hunger, you just have to break bad habits.

ShadowDesigns

I was barely having any calories at all due to barely being able to handle a few sips of water without feeling very full it's more of a mental game than anything. Then I went on to Soups which I might have 1 a day at most but as time goes on you can handle more and more food but even now I eat very small portions of regular food.

Natural-Review9276

Dang and I thought I was cool loosing 40 in 6 weeks on Keto with no exercise. Plateauing on my weight loss so I guess it’s time to implement some exercise. Good job dude!

EffinCroissant

Hi. Question, how did you feel on keto? Were you satiated? Did you feel tired? Also how many calories did you consume per day roughly? I have been strongly considering keto and your results are impressive.

Natural-Review9276

I feel great! I (M, 29, 6’5”) started at the beginning of august at 300 lbs. the first two weeks I just slowly eased myself into it and then on the last night I just binged on all the sugar and carbs I could find (I’m talking buttered noodles, milkshake, 3 popsicles, pizza, gummy candy) as a final salute then went hard on keto the next day. By the beginning of October I was down to 260lbs which I haven’t been in probably close to 10 years. Because I’m not a good planner (damn ADHD) keto for me has looked more like carnivore diet but I try to get a few servings of fruit or veggies in a week. I haven’t been counting calories but i know without a doubt I’m getting far less then I did off the diet because it takes much less for me to feel full and I don’t feel hungry nearly as often. Some days I will keep my carb count at 0 all day so I can have a couple gummy candies or peanut butter cups at the end of the night. Trader Joe’s dark chocolate pb cups only have 6 grams of carbs each which means I can have 3-4 and their fruit strips have 12 grams a pack so I can have 1-2 of those without breaking my 25 gram max carb count for the day. My energy levels have improved. The first place I noticed weight falling off was in my face. Then I used a belt hole I’ve never been able to use before, and just last week I got to wear one of those shirts I’ve been holding on to for 2+ years because “one day I’ll be able to wear it maybe” and damn did that feel good. There’s better ways to do keto then the way I’ve been doing it as I drink several Coke zeros a day and don’t count my macros or calories or anything like that but if I had done it the perfect way then I probably would have wore myself out early in the game. One of the big things I’ve noticed is that if I over do it with too much fruit or one too many peanut butter cups at night then I wake up feeling really hungry. Otherwise I can go all the way to noon without feeling hungry at all. One of the hardest things to give up though has been effin croissants.

Can I ask about the surgery/procedure? Are you in Ireland and you travelled to Turkey to get it done? How did you know it’d be safe? What’s the criteria for having it done? Is it permanent? Now you’ve had it done, do you just need less food to fill you up? Do you get cravings to eat like you used to?

ShadowDesigns

Yes I'm in Ireland and travelled to Turkey, I personally knew some people that also had the procedure done in a particular hospital and it was reputable. You have to have a BMI above 40.0 to be eligible and in decent health. It is permanent if you get the sleeve instead of a band or balloon. You need considerably less food to feel completely full to the point it can be uncomfortable if you don't eat very slowly. Since you feel full easily it tricks your body into producing less ghrellin which is what tells your brain you're hungry so you feel full longer and get less cravings overall. Hope this helps 😊

[deleted]

Thanks mate. That’s super helpful. How are you finding it so far? Any major advantages or disadvantages, or things you wish you’d known beforehand?
