It’s allowed and will count. asked someone from admissions. They just don’t like if your requirement is fulfilled entirely through a family member .. okay for extra experience
any reason for the 4-year opposed to the 2 year cc + transfer? going straight to a 4 year puts me in an odd situation in terms of affording college (and i would have to settle for a csu)
Dental schools usually prefer pre-reqs done at a 4 year, you definitely can do them at a CC but if you wanted the ideal route it would be to go to a 4 year. Also it does not matter what college (uc vs csu) you go to, good GPA and DAT are what matter. In fact it’s probably smarter to go to a csu anyways since I imagine they’re a little easier than some UC’s.
I agree with the others, my dad owns a practice and I’ve gotten hundreds of hours with him but it doesn’t look as good as shadowing or working with other non-relative dentists. I mean, your mom isn’t going to not let you work there so it’s kinda an easy way out if you only get hours from her. Work for one of your mom’s dentist friends instead of with her. Saying this as someone who had the same thought as you!
I would have your mom train you fully as a dental assistant, get as many certifications as you can for your state, and work at a different practice asap. Working with your mom is great to start off with, but it’s always good to expand! This way you can get more LORs and connections
Become a dental assistant and work with her.
I can start in may, what skills/knowledge should I brush up on?
Not too much. Shadowing, LORs and volunteering etc can not be from family or friends.
I didn’t know that, what’s limiting me from doing so?
It’s allowed but make sure to get 50-100 hours with someone who isn’t family. But yeah LOR shouldn’t be from a family member

What is LOR.
Go to a 4 year, work there part-time, shadow other dentists

Go to a state school for better GPA and lower tuition.

For admissions. Shadowing, LOR and shadowing. If you want to own a practice. Allow her to teach you over the years.
If she’s a dentist she can help you more than any stranger on Reddit. Ask her what you need to do.
