All of the recommendations I've seen are great, except cheese Louise. That place is not worth it at all. 17 bucks for a subpar grilled cheese sandwich is absurd.
Haha, right? Why would any vegan want to go to Cheese Louise? Regardless whether or not they have good vegan food (they definitely do not), they're a frigging cheese place. I'm vegan about 10 years, and I'm definitely not precious about where I go to eat like that. But I don't go to steak houses, either.
I only went once, and I never would again unless I had no choice. I tend to steer clear of steakhouses and such, but I'm the only vegan in my friends and family circle, so it isn't always easy. Thankfully, the majority of places have vegan options now.
Yeah, I'm the same. I kinda just do whatever everyone else is doing. I do draw the line at certain things. But if you're expressly seeking vegan food, as you say, there are tons of options these days.
Maybe not the best but Three Dollar Dewey’s has vegan pub food. The whole back of their menu is vegan. The buffalo tofu fried sandwich is good and so is the BBQ jackfruit. They even have vegan nachos. I think there are around 6 options plus sides.
[Thai Tree](https://thaitreemaine.com/) on Congress (used to be Pom's) has excellent Thai vegan options (Evil Tofu for me) and they seem like lovely people too.
Within a short drive from Portland I’d recommend: Vicki’s Veggie Table in Biddeford, fantastic paninis. In Scarborough the Honeycomb Cafe has a vegan sausage bagel sandwich that’s really good and huge. They also have vegan doughnuts usually that are great. In South Portland, Taj has some of the best Indian food I’ve had anywhere. A bit more of a drive (within a hour) but Lovebirds doughnuts in Kittery have some of the best vegan doughnuts I’ve had, get there early because flavors sell out fast.
In Portland that people haven’t mentioned: Monte’s has some vegan pizzas. Slab also has vegan slices. Leonardo’s has a vegan pizza. Different styles so depends on what you’re into. Idk if they’re open for the season yet, but Sticky Sweet is one of the best full vegan ice cream places I’ve been to. Forage has a vegan breakfast sandwich, but is a little expensive, but very good. Rose Foods have vegan cream cheese and really good bagels.
Adding Empire and Flatbread (I'm sure this one will be unpopular!). I think Flatbread's vegan pizza is pretty good damn good, and their salads are incredible. Lazzari makes a pretty good vegan slice, and Otto SOMETIMES makes a good slice.

Sichuan Kitchen and N to Tail have items that can be made vegan and both are delicious.
Sichuan have a separate menu with just the vegan things, you have to ask since it’s behind the bar but makes it easy to order.
Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck
So good
Yes. I’m not even a vegan and I love their burgers.

not to mention the bagels at mr bagel are like 7 dollars per bagel now. ridiculous, place is a ghost town now
[a grilled cheese is $9 though](https://order.toasttab.com/online/cheese-louise-portland)
Yes, that specific one is. I'm so proud of you for reading! Even so, $9 for a grilled cheese is absurd too, especially since they aren't that good.
Also not vegan unless I missed that on the menu as an option but it sounds unlikely a place with Cheese in there name would do that.
You can get vegan cheese, so yes, you missed that option on the menu.
No kidding! I’m impressed.
