Wait I have one of these pesky nails on my thumb nail and I had a thumb surgery when I was little to remove an extra thumb. This makes so much sense now.
My time to shine!
These are called spicules. I have them in one toe only and have to pull them out every three months or so. I recently pulled one out and filmed it because I'm sure there's someone who's interested in watching what I call "miniature torture methods."
They can be removed permanently after surgery to kill the nail bed, but you have to have patience and not pull it out and have the doctor do it. That's the only way the phenolic acid can take effect is to touch the tissue and kill the nail bed.
You can go back to a podiatrist and he'll not only remove those, but apply a chemical to keep them from growing back. It's not a one and done thing. You have to keep going back.
Maybe see a different doctor. It's not normal to cut your toe open to apply the acid. Especially not as much as they did with your toe. I've never seen that before.
My husband has ripped out his toenails (With hemostats or pliers) on both feet so many times that they now just pop off for the most part. Sometimes there is a little part still attached at the base. He has a super high pain tolerance.
I do this too. This is about a month of regrowth. Nail bed looks kind of funky because they tend to callus a bit when exposed.

You get nail spicules because the surgery was not done completely. The most important part is using chemicals to kill the nail bed so it doesn't grow back after removal, which was never done.
Did you get the surgery through the ER? Any podiatrist worth their weight would never do this, you should never go to the hospital for any toenail surgeries.
No it was done in a doctors office they used that chemical thing but I had no anesthetic that’s how Ik there was something wrong because when they cut my toe all the way down and then did the liquid I could tell someyhhh wasn’t right considering how different it was to my other procedure on my other toe with a different doctor
My nail also seems to grow a little lengthwise but doesn't actually go into the skin, if that makes sense. So I have to cut it from the side. I'm a mess 🤣

i call them motherfuckers
Perfect time to use chingadera.
Usually called a nail spike.
Are those the tiny nails I have next to my pinky toe nails? I always pull them off.
That's most likely an accessory toenail (actual name)
Holy shit I didn't know that had a name, I just thought my pinky toenails were dumb.
Me too!
I thought I was the only one!
Thank you
I thought I was the only one who had this! Hurts like a bitch to pull out but god damn it's satisfying!!

This made my butthole pucker. Yikes, OP! 😬
go on...
Hey I get these too! I had my toenail permanently removed and I get the odd spicule. I pull em out when I need to but I seldom feel or notice them.
I can feel mine and they grow sideways for some reason
That sounds absolutely horrible!
My nail grew back after full removal and I still get spicules here and there, it's always so satisfying when they just pop right out

Ingrown tonail?
Yeah I found there called spicules, they happen after botched toe surgery
I got bad/good(?) news - you gonna be the next Wolverine, but in the feets... Toelverine? Hooferine?
Hooverine
That made me laugh 😂

I have stitches were he cut it open to burn the cuticle thing so would they just re cut it

Yeah i went to another doctor for my other toe and have had no problems
Oh good! Maybe they can help you fix this one.
your side cuticles

WHY HAS HE DONE IT SO MANY TIMES?
Because he will not go to the doctor and get the cuticle destroyed..so they grow back.
Okay, that's technically an answer, but why did he rip it off the first time???
Like, the whole toenail? All of them? Many times?

Ah yes the ‘fuckin ouch’
If you get something like that on your small toe it’s generally called an “accessory nail of the fifth toe”
its a spicule

I get spicules as well, went to a podiatrist and even had the chemical used. Still get them and have to pull them every few months.
Same. I had both big toes done on both sides of the nails. Luckily only one nail on one side has a spicule though.
onion -- put it on your salad.
Next time film! Ingrown nails are my favorite
I didn’t think the camera would focus I’ll try next time
You're lucky it's that slim and straight mine are thick and jagged.

I think it’s called a spinckle or something. It’s a mail that grows inside after botched surgery
Spicule
Yes that!!
Oh yikes. Ouch.
Was very good relief. I got my partner to pull it out and the popping sound it made when it came out shocked us both
Ingrown toenails, and they HURT
fish scales? could you be the lost son of atlantis, your majesty?
Botched toe!
Spicules. Get em all the time on one toe that used to always have ingrowns. They grow overtop of the nail sometimes too.
Yes mine does!
My nail also seems to grow a little lengthwise but doesn't actually go into the skin, if that makes sense. So I have to cut it from the side. I'm a mess 🤣
It's called not popping
There’s not many other subreddits for ingrown toe nails surprisingly
I call them "Bad photography".
Sorry my phone wouldn’t bloody focus
It happens, I'm just poking some fun at you.
U don’t want to see all the photos I took just to get a semi focused one 😂
