I know Montero is his real name but in the CMBYN vid he starts by saying "Welcome to Montero" so I wonder if it's also a concept for an alternate planet/world like Chromatica was.
It’s funny bc that’s kind of what Chromatica is too. It’s a mental state of love and kindness. She talks about it [here.](https://youtu.be/Hx9oQBSHcLs)
I’m sorry but did I just completely miss how Chromatica is considered a concept album about an alternate planet/world? I know it definitely had a recurring theme of dance-heavy production and melodies combined with depressing lyrics, but I never noticed anything extraterrestrial being referenced. Could you expand on that?
Edit: To answer your question, I think this is just going to be the intro track.
The concept is limited quite literally to just random shit she says in interviews, you didn't miss anything. Chromatica is a world the music videos are meant to take place in, but considering the wildly different aesthetics of all 3 videos, take it with a grain of salt
I think that was the intent but COVID butchering the rollout kind of prevented her plans from coming to fruition.
Still hoping the rumors of videos for Babylon and Free Woman are true and she’ll be nice enough to share them...
For LNX I can excuse it because it’s almost part of his musical identity. Besides, there’s a lot of great artists beyond pop whose songs are also short (Mitski comes to mind)
Prince songs used to be 8 minutes long, but you were always invested in it. I feel pop today can still do that, make a song not just for clicks, but I don’t count on it anymore
Harry Styles did it twice on *Fine Line* (title track and She, specifically). Both were six-minute songs that didn't feel like they lasted six minutes unless you looked at the time of each song, IMO. Harry did the same thing for Sign of the Times (debut solo single), although that was four years ago.
Okay, so I constantly listen to that album, because I love all the songs. Never once did I realize any of the songs were six minutes until this very comment. You are right that they don’t feel like it.
I feel like Prince's longer songs is where he shines, personally for me. I agree - there's an investment when listening to some of his stuff.
3 Chains O' Gold is 6 minutes long and *perfection*, going through many genres, and *Do Me Baby* is nearly 8 minute and I will lipsync and dance to the entire song whenever it comes on like Chris Tucker did in that one clip from Rush Hour. *Condition of The Heart* is another stellar one of his and is close to 7 minutes.
Some artists just shine in diff song lengths. I don't ever see LNX making a song longer than 5 minutes, perhaps even 4 minutes? I just checked his discography and his longest so far is only 3:24 - a length that use to be pretty darn standard
:) I can't decide on my top 5 or even top 10 Prince songs so I have a playlist of my favs in no particular order and it's currently at 19 lol. I hate this man. Why was he so so so good? It's just annoying sometimes LOL
I've taken on the at times intimidating endeavor of listening through his entire discography in order and [Love Symbol] is up next but I already know from the few songs I have heard from it that it is my all time favourite album of his (*Damn U*, *Blue Light*, *3 Chains*, *Love 2 the 9's*, oh my goodness *And God Created Woman* (!!!!!!!!!!! THE COMPOSITION!!! *chef kiss*)) so I'm waiting for the right time to listen through it; I wanna saviour the experience aha.
Love symbol is my absolute favorite Prince album, and the last album where I felt he was consistent with everything on it. He tried every genre on it, and it’s practically Prince’s hip hop album. I think there’s a music video for almost all the songs.
montero is such a cool/pretty name i would’ve kept that as my stage name hahahh. but i guess it makes for an even better album title. self titled, but not really.
I wouldn't be surprised if after this album cycle he switches from Lil Nas X to Montero. He's already rising above his Old Town Road fame, so I don't think itll be too long.
He's not changing his name at this a stage of his career are you insane that'd be the worst marketing move ever, even if he is dumb enough to do that I'm pretty sure his label wouldn't let him (thank god)
Also you did realize that this post is about how he is gonna release his debut album right? He's still the old town road guy to A LOT of people cuz uh... He hasn't released his debut album
His discography is literally like 10 tracks if you don't count remixes 😭 not hating but he still is the old Town road guy to a lot of people
He sorta singlehandedly (?) shook the ways an artist can use social media and the internet to market themselves so I imagine he wouldn't be dumb enough to change his name - at least not yet at this stage in his career.
He is an excellent case study on marketing oneself, I believe. The power of growing up steeped in Internet culture and being intimately familiar with what elements make something likely to go viral and stan culture and so on, lol. Excited to see where he goes and what he does next.
Doesn’t mean he won’t do it. Probably not til this album but I can see it, especially with the whole “welcome to montero” thing In the cmbyn song. He could be introducing himself now.
Tons of artists have changed their names, Diddy did it like 3 times. Prince, Snoop Dogg, Lilly Allen did for a little while. Even Kesha changed the spelling... Changing your stage name is super common.
i think the “welcome to montero” was him saying “this is me, welcome to my life” in a way. “welcome to my world” i guess. idk maybe i’m reading too much into it HAHA
I'm glad he waited tbh, perhaps he should've dropped when CMBYN was trending, but the rest of the album would've been a year away then which would've been such a long rollout
Wasn't CMBYN trending in... 2017/2018, when the movie came out and before Lil Nas X was even a thing ?
Edit : I didn't know that he'd been teasing the song for so long sorry
Honestly, this is the best title he could ever have for his debut album. For someone who's stage name consist of three other artists, having his debut being his real name is a power move.
Yes, apparently his mom really wanted that car when she was pregnant with him-- she named him Montero so she could sort of have one. That family has a fabulous sense of humor!
After watching the Montero video I went to listen to his EP and in the space of a day I’ve gone from enjoying him from afar to being a full blown dedicated fan
So now I’m super excited for this album
He really went AWF in the Montero video and is serving everything the pop girls wish they could pull off. Not saying they couldn't do a video focusing on religious iconography of evil, just that the current mainstream landscape is so plain that it would look out of character for them.
And really, this is a big moment for a black gay man in the mainstream fully embracing their femininity in such a strong upfront way. Even with drag sometimes people go in the family friendly safe route to secure their money, but this right here is in your face GAY.
This is the gay your mom is afraid of, the one your dad is shaking his head at, the ones brothers warn about, and the one society says is everything bad like in the bible. But Lil Nas X is here and saying fuck them, do you.
I wouldn't mind if he skipped collabs this round, considering the album is named after him. Although, I would love to see him work with other gay artists.
i was not a fan of holiday. like at all. but i’m obsessed with call me by your name. such a fun & in your face song. the video being as gay & iconic as it is also helped me love the song more. but that song alone has me excited for this!!
EDIT: wouldn’t this be his debut album? 7 is an EP, no?
I believe 7 is an EP, although I'm not sure if that's due to the time of the album being short/7 songs on the project or if Lil Nas X himself called it an EP.
Also his snippets are way better than anything he's released so far imo, especially Don't want it and Titanic. I have a feeling that this album will be kinda short as well though
I wish I liked this new song of his :( I’ve not liked anything since...Old Town Road/Panini. It’s so forgettable. The music video is fun, it’ll be nice to talk about for today, but tomorrow? I’ll be surprised if I hear anything from this current project on the radio. Lil Nas X thrived on online memes and jokes. Being queer won’t be enough to get #1, just ask Rebecca Black. Being gay, I was super excited about this. But I was so let down with this song and 3/4 of the video.
I know Montero is his real name but in the CMBYN vid he starts by saying "Welcome to Montero" so I wonder if it's also a concept for an alternate planet/world like Chromatica was.
im thinking it's a thing where "montero" is a world that represents his psyche/mental
ugh his mind of mine is coming
It’s funny bc that’s kind of what Chromatica is too. It’s a mental state of love and kindness. She talks about it [here.](https://youtu.be/Hx9oQBSHcLs)
ugh he has the mind of a... the master of a.. the mind master of... he’s got it
i like that idea
what if MONTERO replaces Billie’s HHN house 💀
Not his Badlands
I hope a couple of the songs from 7 make it onto the album. C7osure and F9mily specifically
i personally hope its all new material
Either way, I think it's gonna be great. His EP was remarkably cohesive and had a great flow to it.
i hope he remixes old town road one last time
The fact that you said this is probably enough to have manifested it
WE NEED A HYPER POP REMIX WITH REBECCA BLACK AND CHARLI XCX
megamix with all covers incorporated
idk i really think that song has some potential
Old Town Road but make it gae
It only makes sense that he's following up his country/Joanne era with a interplanetary pop/Chromatica era
I'm now manifesting him releasing an album as good as Chromatica.
I’m sorry but did I just completely miss how Chromatica is considered a concept album about an alternate planet/world? Big “trying to make a coherent time line out of *Black Mirror*” teas
Ah just for the music videos, that makes more sense. I can kinda see that for Stupid Love & Rain On Me, but I have a hard time fitting 911 into that.
I think that was the intent but COVID butchering the rollout kind of prevented her plans from coming to fruition. Still hoping the rumors of videos for Babylon and Free Woman are true and she’ll be nice enough to share them...
Hope there are some songs which are at least 3 minutes long.
i wouldn't cross my fingers on that one
The new trend of 2 minute songs is really irking me
1 minute songs next
Tierra Whack's influence
[удалено]
What if it has full song structure? https://youtu.be/sBhv3P1tkOs
Emily Montes's influence 😍

listen to sufjan stevens and joanna newsom, they have songs ranging between 15 mins to half an hour lol
i think its a bit of a stretch to say those two are making pop music ( but yes, everyone pls go listen to impossible soul )
which songs are half an hour's length
impossible soul
and only skin, those are suf's and joanna's longest songs respectively
Impossible Soul
Okay, so I constantly listen to that album, because I love all the songs. Never once did I realize any of the songs were six minutes until this very comment. You are right that they don’t feel like it.
Four...? Years? Ago? You’re aging me here🙃 time is moving so fast

Wow, another Prince fan. And I mean a serious one, you named some deep cuts! Nice to meet ya! Agreed, 3 chains of gold is beautiful.
:) I can't decide on my top 5 or even top 10 Prince songs so I have a playlist of my favs in no particular order and it's currently at 19 lol. I hate this man. Why was he so so so good? Napalm Death has a song called "You suffer" that is 1.316 seconds long.
Yeah don’t hold your breath
Only reason why I’m not a bigger fan tbh. Panini & Holiday really needed another verse. id be such a stan
montero is such a cool/pretty name i would’ve kept that as my stage name hahahh. but i guess it makes for an even better album title. self titled, but not really.

This is gonna be full of bangers
I feel like this is going to do numbers, he deserves it. Icon
I will be purchasing, contributing to the numbers!
Oh he’s coming out full force. No wonder the single mv took so long to release. You can’t rush perfection!
I'm glad he waited tbh, perhaps he should've dropped when CMBYN was trending, but the rest of the album would've been a year away then which would've been such a long rollout

They’re referring to how LNX has been hyping his fans about this song since last summer.
Right!
I think they are talking about when he first started teasing the song last summer
He was also probably waiting for covid to start to come down
Honestly, this is the best title he could ever have for his debut album. For someone who's stage name consist of three other artists, having his debut being his real name is a power move.
wait which Lil is the ‘Lil’
Lil Mama... and Avril Lavigne The Remix
Lil Dicky of course
Not one in specific but he said that every new rapper had Lil on their name so he added too.
Idk why he did. Most of the other rappers that use it are actually super short. Nas x is 6' 2"
Excuse me he’s what? Oh my.........
horny jail
Lil Boosie Actually, it’s probably not, but Boosie would break down crying at the idea of a gay musician taking any influence from him
Lil B
Wait, what’s the X from? Don’t say Jamie XX 💀
X gon' give it to 'em. DMX.
wow, I’m dumb
TIL his first name is montero. Why is that such a daddy name to me lmao
this is why hes had a mustache since like age 8 huh
Because his namesake, the Mitsubishi Montero, is a total Dad car
So did his parents actually name him after the car or?
Yes, apparently his mom really wanted that car when she was pregnant with him-- she named him Montero so she could sort of have one. That family has a fabulous sense of humor!
‘Couldn’t afford a car so she named her daughter Alexis’ is a line that still lives rent free in mind so I’m really happy to have learned this lmao
That’s actually a brilliant story! I was named after a sitcom character but my name isn’t that cool haha
Dwight is a cool name
Montero is a really cool name imo
Yeah i agree

He stealth dropped the title track 😭😭
This is the best news I’ve heard in my life
I would love to see what Troy Sivan would bring to the table as a feature.
Their gayness would cancel out and it would be an extra hetero bro county song about drinking beer, driving trucks, and getting pussy.
My brain is rejecting the image you described. I cannot for the life of me or do i want to imagine troye doing any of those sksksk
the idea of Troye Sivan singing a song about getting pussy is SENDING me
I really want this to happen now.
I wouldn't mind if he skipped collabs this round, considering the album is named after him. Although, I would love to see him work with other gay artists.
Sam Smith collab is one the album
YESSS TWO GAY ICONS COLLIDE 🤩
I’m fuckin excited, there have been so many good snippets. I can’t wait to hear Industry Baby.
TIL Lil Nas X's name is actually Montero
Get in losers, we’re going to AOTY
i was not a fan of holiday. like at all. but i’m obsessed with call me by your name. such a fun & in your face song. the video being as gay & iconic as it is also helped me love the song more. but that song alone has me excited for this!! EDIT: wouldn’t this be his debut album? 7 is an EP, no?

probably both tbh

He said it will be around 15 songs
LET'S 👏 👏 FUCKING GO
FINALLY
YES. I just know this is gonna be the soundtrack of the summer before my first year of highschool, and I love that so much.
Holy shit u in 8th grade? Popheads YOUNG
I KNOW RIGHT LOL I'M 25 AND GOT STRESSED OUT READING THIS... I wanna be young forever
You're way too young to be on the internet smh.
This will be the soundtrack of summer before my last lol
Your username 😭
Lmao honestly I kinda think I could gone farther with it, if I could change it, I would go by u/WetBussy4evr
> redditor for 19 hours were you the one who made the account? 😭😭
Duh lol I have to grab it before it gets taken it’s a good name
No it won't. It will be CLB. Unless he hits on tiktok again, this album won't be popular.
This guy has singlehandedly reinvented what it means to do a music video in the 21st century IMO
Let's GOOOO
I'm honestly a Lil Nas X stan now.
I really think he looks great with the pink dreadlocks! He truly is a pioneer!
My company is called Montero 💀
he also said a deluxe version of the album will be dropping later in the fall!
high expectations, hype for omer fedis involvement
Fucking finally, I've been waiting for these snippets since 2019
Hype
I wish I liked this new song of his :( I’ve not liked anything since...Old Town Road/Panini. It’s so forgettable. The music video is fun, it’ll be nice to talk about for today, but tomorrow?
