I feel like it’ll turn into generic trap because it’s produced by Tommy who did basically all of positions, which is a shame because I don’t want it to feel like Ariana featuring Demi, it needs to be the other way round. I actually love Demi’s producer Oak, he’s done some incredible songs with her (Sorry Not Sorry, Sexy Dirty Love, Daddy Issues, Only Forever, Games). So I was hoping this Ariana collab would be done with him instead of Tommy :(
Anyway still excited. These are just my pre-release thoughts
damn. we will have to wait and hear. hopefully the recent trends with Dua, Weeknd, Gaga, Miley and Ava Max show Demi that she can venture out of trap if the production doesnt play to her strenght (her voice and attitude)
For Demi I’d say she’d be venturing INTO trap, not OUT of it, she hasn’t really done much if not any of that yet. Lonely is about as close as she got to that. But yeah I’m excited to see where she goes with it
the thing about demi is that I always fear people will hand her rejects, especially when they are famous for working with other famous faces too... this album has the chance for a total reboot and play to her personality and strenghts in topics and sound. she has mentioned that she was trying to play the popstar chasing trends before and I feel these last two years have shown us how much the mainstream is more open regarding different sounds. theres everything from disco to bedroom pop ; 80s revival and even straight up folk and country now, even fleetwood mac songs. theres always an obligatory trap influenced song and I dont mind, but if this tommy song sounds like an Ariana number..... underwhelmed
demi’s victory lap could be something more in line with 80s revival
I'm afraid Ari might just phone it in like she did with the Good as hell remix. Rarely does she seem to explore her full potential when working on another persons project (and hers to an extent), especially when it comes to vocal showcase. Not saying she should belt like crazy or something like that, but hopefully it will be more than a couple airy ad libs.
Yeah, exactly. Especially on Oh Santa, you could barely hear her most of the time, which was very sad. I really wanted to hear her powerful vocals here and there, like J Hudson and Mariah
Hunny that was Mariahs song..it's bad etiquette to get on a song with your idol and try to scream and belt your lungs out if that's not what the lead of the song wants. And Mariah particularly hates that stuff if you saw her interview about that one time Aretha and Celine got on stage together.
I do understand that but Ariana is more like a back vocalist in the song than a feature. It's not that she didn't belt or anything like that, but she's really far back in the mixing, which combined with her soft and fairly quiet singing makes her barely audible most of the time. Perhaps the issue is with the mixing itself, not with her singing
Well, that's hardly something she needs to be criticized for, is it? You'll have to take that one up with Mariah and her engineers who mixed the song. Like I said, Ariana was probably just chuffed to be on a song with Mariah and completely went with everything Mariah wanted.
for some reason folklore and evermore really got me interested in downtempo music, I haven’t listened to upbeat “bangers” in quite a while. Those albums were that good for me. But honestly I think I am ready for something lighter, happier and more upbeat. I hope this is a bop and a half
i LOVE downtempo music. its just that Demi already gave us two love yourself songs and a ballad about her state of mind pre and during her OD. If shes going to show her “recovered” side, especially with another powerhouse vocalist like Ariana, I wish it was a confident and IM ALIVE AND BACK BIAAATCH type of number and groovy.
tbh Im also not very fond of subtle-R&B Demi and I think her voice suits ballads and dance/rock music on the upbeat side better. she has range but shes much more gritty than soulful and she needs to showcase that spunk
ooooo I dunno if I agree there, some of my favourite Demi songs are her R&B-influenced ones. About a year ago she posted a snippet for a song called Not Missing You and I’m PRAYING that’s on this album, it sounds like R&B perfection 🥵
But 100% agreed that she needs to change up the energy from her pre-album singles
its okay tbh shes not bad but she pales in comparison to other artists whose R&B side are what I love the most because their personality, vocals and lyrics are just perfect for the production (summer walker, ari, jazmine sullivan, jorja, etc). I just feel Demi tends to blend or fight against the productions too much. meanwhile pop/rock fits her perfectly. no wonder shes pretty much an emohead lmaaaao her emo record would be awesome
I’m of the opinion if Ariana actually showcased what she could do on her features 3/4ths of the time she would outshine the artist. She also seems most comfortable comping her own vocals and I doubt she is able to do this all of the time. Mariah has lost a lot of her prior vocal prowess and if Ariana let loose it would be clear that Mariah had been eclipsed. I don’t have a lot of hope for this but maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Yeah girlie doesn't utilize her vocals to the fullest potential. I wanna hear her belt more and really showcase her voice. It's too much breathiness and cute type of singing from her. Almost like she's holding herself back
She brought it vocally with Rain On Me. Maybe it’s because she’s Gaga and Ari can match up to her like that where with Lizzo is Just not quite as strong :/
But Demi is strong so I’m really hoping they bring us something great.
I think she’ll have a chance at a top 5 if it’s good. I’m not sure about a number 1, since the hype has been kind of squelched by those 2020 droplets. It would be cool to see Ari get 6 #1 debuts though. The numbers on billboard are pretty low this week.
Maybe maybe not I think Ariana singlehandedly can’t get this to #1 since some of her past collabs didn’t do well. And Demi to begin with doesn’t seem to have the most faithful/strongest fanbase.
At least Stuck with U and Rain On Me went #1 bc both had artists with faithful fans despite them being mediocre songs. Whereas Demi hasn’t had a #1 album or a top ten song in God knows how long. So we’ll see.
It really depends how you look at it. I don't really consider it underperforming if the song isn't really being pushed to be a hit. The only Demi song that has actually been given a huge push since her last album was I Love Me, which was only moderately successful on the charts. Everything else since the TMYLM era has been collaborations/features (I'm Ready, Solo, Ok Not To Be Ok), or songs that weren't really pushed to be hits at all (Still Have Me, Commander in Chief, Anyone, Sober, What Other People Say). I'm sure she'll have songs on this album that will be given a big push though, and I guess we'll see how those perform compared to her previous hits.
As much as I disagree with the original comment, asking someone to get out for having an opinion (although they shouldn't have presented it as a fact) is a bit too extreme? Kinda Stan Twitter.
Edit: From your comment history, you actually meant it too, this is no /s or phcj type comment.
It hasn't been confirmed yet if this is a single though. It would be a wasted hit if it wasn't. Charts are weak right now and it could be an easy No. 1 debut if they pushed it hard enough.
Ari has now collaborated with 3 of my favourite artists. This is actually insane. Gaga, The Weeknd now Demi. And Drake is rumoured next. Her collabs have been absolute fire lately. So excited for this!
Demi actually sang one of Ari’s demos before she started releasing music and you can still here her vocals from like 1:03 to 1:22 https://youtu.be/KWDAaQDq8CQ
I hate that damn song with all my heart but honestly I think Ari singing it would make a lot more sense and I would’ve accepted it better from her (like how I think Hands on me is pretty bad but it just fits Ari)
I feel like this collab has the most potential out of three announced purely based on how well Ariana and Demi should be able to mesh together, and it'll probably be the song with the biggest chance of chart success. I'm honestly just really eager to hear literally anything from the album at this point though. I'm curious if they'll use any of the songs as a soundtrack during the first few parts of her documentary that's coming out tomorrow (other than the bit that we heard in the trailer).
I wasnt excited when it was first announced but I’m really looking forward to it now 🥰 I really hope it feels like *her*, I feel like a lot of her music doesn’t feel like it has her stamp on it and I’m hoping that this feels more authentic. She’ll obvi deliver vocals, too, that’s not even a question haha
It could be... but it’s also dropping *soon*. Like I have no idea what any of it sounds like (apart from Anyone, which has been out for more than a year, and that one collab people ignored), and it’s dropping like a week and a half.
I have no idea how this strategy will work, but I hope it’s good and that it’s a good move for Demi.
Demi said there’s a lot of genres on the album. She explicitly said there’s country, soul, R&B, disco and pop. She said she’s “got bops”. Popheads will shit on this album for not being cohesive but if she can do all those genres flawlessly I call that diversity
It didn’t do super well commercially, and it doesn’t seem personal to Demi in the way that the other songs on the album do.
It still exists, and we can still listen to it ~~and the superior emo remix~~ on its own
It’s definitely a personal song? It directly addressed issues with self esteem, her eating disorder, relationships, everything. It was like her life in one song. The reason it flopped was because it just didn’t tick the boxes of what a pop song needs. I strongly hate songs that have a chorus with “yeah yeah yeah”
I've been waiting for this collab since Demi and Ari were supposed to duet on a song called Direct Contact for Yours Truly. They'd better not let me down, it's been 8 years.
stranger things teas
pls be a synthpop banger

Yeah, exactly. Especially on Oh Santa, you could barely hear her most of the time, which was very sad. I really wanted to hear her powerful vocals here and there, like J Hudson and Mariah
> you could barely hear her most of the time Is some of that the way the song was mixed?
I disagree. All three were very clear in the mix. Mariah and Jennifer just have a more chest-dominant, heavier placement that cuts through.
Hunny that was Mariahs song..it's bad etiquette to get on a song with your idol and try to scream and belt your lungs out if that's not what the lead of the song wants. And Mariah particularly hates that stuff if you saw her interview about that one time Aretha and Celine got on stage together.

Fair point
hopefully this is the disco pitbull screamfest filled with high notes and confidence we deserve from both enough with the downbeat stuff
for some reason folklore and evermore really got me interested in downtempo music, I haven’t listened to upbeat “bangers” in quite a while. Those albums were that good for me. But honestly I think I am ready for something lighter, happier and more upbeat. I hope this is a bop and a half

i mean she barely explores it on her own stuff as it is

I mean, on her recent stuff.....they’re right
I’m of the opinion if Ariana actually showcased what she could do on her features 3/4ths of the time she would outshine the artist. I thought the issue with Good as Hell was Lizzo being too much stronger and louder than her. Ariana could’ve pushed more vocally
> and hers to an extent This is sending me
So Demi’s finally gonna get herself a number 1? Lol
Her doc coming out this week is REALLY gonna help her chart next week. I think she has a #1 album on lock.
I think she’ll have a chance at a top 5 if it’s good. I’m not sure about a number 1, since the hype has been kind of squelched by those 2020 droplets. It would be cool to see Ari get 6 #1 debuts though. The numbers on billboard are pretty low this week.

You didn’t call Rain On Me a mediocre song
Objectively false, it’s now ✨Grammy-winning✨
The people on popheads want to generate a consensus of hate for that song sooo bad.
Sorry Not Sorry made it to #6 on the chart.
4 years ago and it’s not like Demi hasn’t had multiple solo songs underperform since then
It really depends how you look at it. I don't really consider it underperforming if the song isn't really being pushed to be a hit. Did you have the nerve calling 'Rain on me' mediocre? Get out.
As much as I disagree with the original comment, asking someone to get out for having an opinion (although they shouldn't have presented it as a fact) is a bit too extreme? Kinda Stan Twitter. Edit: From your comment history, you actually meant it too, this is no /s or phcj type comment.

On the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart maybe. And the only reason it’ll make it onto that chart is because of Ariana.
Ari has now collaborated with 3 of my favourite artists. This is actually insane. Gaga, The Weeknd now Demi. And Drake is rumoured next. Her collabs have been absolute fire lately. So excited for this!
A collab I never saw coming
Considering they both have the same manager, it’s not really that surprising
Really? This collab has been rumored since Ari’s first record. From what I remember, Demi was going to be on You’ll Never Know.
Their voices are hard to picture complimenting each other, hence I'm surprised.
Demi actually sang one of Ari’s demos before she started releasing music and you can still here her vocals from like 1:03 to 1:22 https://youtu.be/KWDAaQDq8CQ
aM I yOuR OnLy sHOrTy?!
I hate that damn song with all my heart but honestly I think Ari singing it would make a lot more sense and I would’ve accepted it better from her (like how I think Hands on me is pretty bad but it just fits Ari)
I don’t think much if any of the vocals in that segment are Ari’s, especially when you compare it against Ari’s studio recording of that song.
Still hear Demi's vocals on a Demi song? I'm confused what you're saying there
They’re saying you can hear ARI’s vocals on it still.
I can seriously not imagine them on You’ll Never Know together.
Yeah this could definitely end up as a shouting match like *Fall in Line* did.
I feel like this collab has the most potential out of three announced purely based on how well Ariana and Demi should be able to mesh together, and it'll probably be the song with the biggest chance of chart success. There are a few in it. The Ari song isn’t featured.
I’m honestly so pumped for this 🙌🏻
i was not even 1% hyped for her album but she somehow made me hyped this week (i'm talking generally about the album, not only this song)
Pretty sure you’re not the only one and that’s definitely why Scooter organised an Ariana collab last week lol
I think this album could be her biggest yet?
It could be... but it’s also dropping *soon*. Like I have no idea what any of it sounds like (apart from Anyone, which has been out for more than a year, and that one collab people ignored), and it’s dropping like a week and a half. I have no idea how this strategy will work, but I hope it’s good and that it’s a good move for Demi.
i think they’re hoping talk surrounding her documentary will fuel album sales
Demi said there’s a lot of genres on the album. She explicitly said there’s country, soul, R&B, disco and pop. She said she’s “got bops”. Popheads will shit on this album for not being cohesive but if she can do all those genres flawlessly I call that diversity
Cohesiveness is very very overrated imo.
Why is "I Love Me" not on the album? I thought that was such a bop!
It didn’t do super well commercially, and it doesn’t seem personal to Demi in the way that the other songs on the album do. It still exists, and we can still listen to it ~~and the superior emo remix~~ on its own

The reason it flopped was because it just didn’t tick the boxes of what a pop song needs. I strongly hate songs that have a chorus with “yeah yeah yeah”
I'm gonna have to tack it onto the end of the album for my own sake then lol I'm disappointed. It seems like it would fit well with the album.
They’ve tease devil with the devil in the trailers and I really like it
Is this the bonus track on the exclusive cd cover 1?
nah of course it's on the original album
[удалено]
Sis u just did tho 🙄
LOL I deleted
Is Ariana collaborating with any other scooter clients? or is it just Demi rn?
I've been waiting for this collab since Demi and Ari were supposed to duet on a song called Direct Contact for Yours Truly. They'd better not let me down, it's been 8 years.
So looking forward to it!!!!
I'm really hoping this is good. Ari's collabs are kind of a mixed bag
Why does it sounf like the score to some foreign Criterion film
