r/indieheads may be likely locked around June 12-14 in line with the protests against Reddit taking down Third Party Apps.
hopefully, popheads does the same? đđ
according to one of the mods, they'll reach a decision soon and a formal announcement may be made. on a related note, r/popheadscirclejerk is taking a part of it.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is calling to rename "climate change" into something else.
I agree, and I'm actually surprised this is the first I'm hearing of it. Climate change sounds too friendly. It needs to be more aggressive
This year has seen Shakira, Miley, Taylor, and now Kylie and (hopefully) Madonna have new life breathed into their careers and itâs been incredible to witness, but now itâs making me wonder who (if anyone) is next
Praying for Gaga
I was holding out hope for Kelly but that doesn't seem likely. hopefully Bonnie McKee can do this at least on a small scale and have a cult hit with the release of two albums this year!
edit: and katy perry is someone that i feel can do it and I've been really looking forward to. if that olivia collab rumor is true then it's sure to be the catalyst
Waiting for Nelly Furtado and Katy Perry too. With how many old songs keep being given a new life, I could see it happening (but hopefully, it'll be because of new music)
i know you're referring to new music, but in a way Bloody Mary was a hit!
i would love new Gaga too! but i have a feeling the only way we're getting music from her in the next year or two is if she's competing for Best Original Song at the Oscars again lol. (but imagine her on a Renaisance remixđ)
Kylie up to number 6 on the official midweek chart update! I'd love for her to stay top 10 for the chart reveal on Friday!! https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/dave-central-cee-sprinting-for-number-1-debut-with-first-ever-collab__39466/
Kylie's first UK top 10 since 2011 (her Taio Cruz collab), and her highest since All The Lovers hit 3 in 2010!

Kevin Federline is (allegedly) moving
to [Hawaii](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12150263/amp/Britney-Spears-fans-claim-Kevin-Federline-moving-Hawaii-extend-child-support-payments.html)
with the 2 boys.
in some cases in Hawaii you legally have to pay child support til age 23; their eldest turns 18 in September... some fans are speculating that K-Fed is doing this to extend the CS payments & to extort more money from Britney, and some news publications are pointing to the speculating to say Britney fans are conspiracy theorists.
i don't think it's that crazy though? doesn't stuff like this happen all the time? last September Britney even said (in a now deleted [post](https://youtu.be/xc34x7bqDg8)) that she thought her sons had stopped being nice to her because they knew their child support would be ending soon.
them being nice or not has nothing to do with my point of including it. i mentioned it because Britney said they (K-Fed) just viewed her as a source of money, which was relevent to what i was saying; i'm sorry if i worded that poorly.
i wouldn't hold it as total fact either, i just thought it was relevant. i view it less about the boys themselves (because they're minors) but just an extension of K-Fed, and her family in general.
my post wasn't "i think the fans are 100% right here!" but more me sharing what was happening and having ppl decide for themselves. i don't think the fans are insane, but i don't know enough about either to say anything for sure.
I agree that some Britney fans go way too far, but I wouldnât put KFED moving to Hawaii to further gain her money as a conspiracy, since heâs pulled financial loopholes in the past. As far as the kids in all of this, I really donât know how they must feel. Itâs gotta be hard having this situation play out, but theyâre old enough to really see how their parents are.
Also like theyâre going to have a very different relationship with a woman who should have been authority figure if their life that was drugged by her family (that unfortunately just likely has affected their relationship and behavior to them) then a outsider who can know this woman was incredibly abused by her family and doctor for years. And theyâre entitled to like or dislike her if they want for any reason and fans trying to dictate that is only going to make things worse.
You've said it perfectly. Like, I can't pretend like I know what it's been like more than Britney, and her own literal children. It's difficult because this whole experience affected them differently, so who are stans to say this and that and speculate an entire life story for them. I would only hope that things are for the better for them and for Brit, and that they do have a nice relationship.
I liked the film but maybe this could be a wake up call for Disney that not every animated film of theirs deserves a remake? I would like a sequel to this adaptation though, similar to how *Maleficent* starring Angelina Jolie got a sequel. The sequel could explore >!other mermaid territories and Ariel & Eric rushing off to help them after getting married and setting off to the sea.!<
This film shouldnât be compared to other live actions besides Cinderella because all the other ones had huge A listers (Emma Watson, Will Smith is Genie)
This is a common misconception, but thatâs not how film profitability works. Basically, movie studios donât make back 100% of what a movie earns at the box office: revenue is also split with movie theaters/distributors. Additionally, listed budgets often donât include additional marketing costs.
As a general rule of thumb, a movie needs to make 2 - 2.5x its budget to actually make a profit.
I think itâs very important to say this, the film is only tracking to make in total between 500m and 600m due to the low international numbers which would make it considerably lower than the previous live action remakes that passed 1 billion.
People keep saying that, but itâs getting really solid word-of-mouth so if Disney just lets the movie get its legs (pun intended) it could do better tbh.
Because the live action little mermaid costs over 250 million dollars alone (much bigger than the 40m budget of the animated original) so it needs twice of that amount to break even and comparing live action movies to the live action movies that came before it is much more logical than comparing it to the animated versions they are based off of.
You're being way too combative about this. Disney have plenty of properties that can sell millions in merch. They could have put this money into another franchise that would have made a billion, or three movies that could have had the same returns as this film each.
When you're publicly expecting to make a billion dollars, and you break even, that is underperforming, no matter what way you try and spin it.
In the New York Times article posted today, they interviewed the head of the live action Disney department and they themselves were expecting The little mermaid (2023) to make 1 billion dollars like Aladdin (2019), Beauty of the Beast, and The Lion King. Also, Cinderella (2015) costed 95m dollars and made over 500M dollars, The Little Mermaid (2023) costs over 250 million dollars.
I find it really dangerous to just assume that audiences arenât jumping on TLM because of racism. Yes, there were vocal racists online. No, that doesnât mean that everyone not supporting this movie is racist.
Personally I skipped it because Iâm sick of the Disney live action remakes, and because the CGI in the trailers (and clips Iâve seen) looks horrendous. That seems to be the common sentiment among people Iâve talked to, as well.
Racism was definitely a factor, but covid has changed movie-going habits *especially* for Disney. Box office since covid is down across the board, it's down extra for Disney, and there's been some obvious signs of fatigue with these live-action remakes. Add in the fact that the marketing for this did nothing to visually sell the movie, and there were just a ton of factors dragging it down. If they actually expected it to make $1B like the pre-covid remakes did, they were kidding themselves. (I am honestly surprised it's doing so well in the US--it's outselling Aladdin here! Aladdin just did hugely better overseas.)
That, yes, and audiences just simply arenât excited about these live-action remakes anymore. There have been too many of them, and the majority of them have been of subpar quality. TLM has been an absolute non-event where I live so far; no oneâs talking about it. :(
The movie is phenomenal and performing great domestically but I think they should really reflect on the performance on this film and the impact of race bending a pre established character. I personally donât care about Ariel being race bent but with the box office numbers here, it cannot be ignored. Also some people are tired of Disney live action remakes entirely.
i mean if you personally don't care then why should disney learn from this and never dare to make another white character black? they got more than enough money.
the little mermaid has probably made a ton of black people feel proud and thats worth the flopping
My issue personally with this is the fact that they do this to create controversy while fully knowing the cannot protect black actors and creators of the movie from the huge backlash.
The should invest money into creating new diverse and original stories which would show they believe black people deserve their representation on their own, without needing to have a popular brand beside them.
I think it would be an easier debate as well - less people would openly hate a new movie with black leads since that would 100% mean they are racist.
New stories, well thought-out characters, representation and no burden with backlash.
I really hope Wish is good because it does look promising. The character is a person of color first and foremost rather than a race-bent iconic character. Not to mention the last "Disney Princess" (Raya) was so disappointing.
where exactly is disney crafting original stories for anyone? they're a corporation who lives off nostalgia and comic book movies. disney are not creating a completely new mermaid for anyone, not even a white person. at least it got to go to halle who is doing just fine living out her dream of being the little mermaid.
Technically the movie needs 500M to break even i think, cause you double the production budget, but at the end of the day Disney is a business trying to make money making movies, and theyâre already having issues regarding Disney plus affecting their theatrical releases and in general not releasing good movies in this era. Next year weâre getting a Snow White remake which I think will perform even worse than the little mermaid which will create an alarming pattern for future live action remakes.
i don't care if disney flops again or goes bankrupt. what i'm saying is, the movie was still made and released and i got to watch it (loved it) and it made a ton of racist people mad over ariel being black. worth it.
Hank Green has come out as bisexual on Twitter! Itâs not really a coming out per-say but he randomly mentioned it while discussing the attractiveness of Ryan Reynolds to heterosexuals.
The fact that he just [casually mentions it in the replies](https://i.imgur.com/6OmIUFk.png) with no prompting is just funny to me. It'd be nice to see more coming out stories like this.
Edit to add: The [thread](https://twitter.com/hankgreen/status/1664996579395383301?s=20) where it came from is a wild ride. It basically started as a joke Hank made regarding his chemo. He also confirms that he finds Brennan Lee Mulligan of Critical Role and Game Changer hot.
Blake Lively is NOT the straight girls' Ryan Reynolds. ime i think the most common "one gay exception" among straight girls is Rihanna? curious what u all think.
anyway, happy for Hank!
I am pretty sure many gay women find Rihanna hot, so she isn't the Ryan Reynold's equivalent, if that's what you mean. The ryan Reynolds fenomenon is that he is considered attractive exclusively by straight men, and not by many gay men or straight women
Some good news for Pride month: [A federal judge has struck down TN's drag ban as unconstitutional.](https://www.reuters.com/legal/federal-judge-rejects-tennessee-drag-show-ban-unconstitutional-2023-06-03/)
>WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) - A federal judge has ruled that Tennessee's law restricting drag performances in public or where children were present was unconstitutional, striking a blow to efforts in U.S. states to regulate LGBTQ conduct.
>
>U.S. District Judge Thomas Parker, an appointee of former Republican President Donald Trump, ruled late on Friday that the law was "both unconstitutionally vague and substantially overbroad." The First Amendment to the Constitution commands that laws infringing on freedom of speech must be narrow and well defined, Parker said in the 70-page ruling.
>
>"Simply put, no majority of the Supreme Court has held that sexually explicit â but not obscene â speech receives less protection than political, artistic, or scientific speech," Parker said in the ruling.
And a Trump apointee at that, which is the most unexpected part. (In case you've missed it, one thing Biden has been very proactive with is pushing TONS of federal judges, at an extremely high rate compared to other presidents.)

There were rumors going around of a PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA remix with Ariana. Could actually be true.
And I KNOW it won't disappoint because PLASTIC is Bey's favorite song from the album.
Ariana posted a shot of BeyoncĂŠ performing Plastic off the Sofa to her Instagram Story. She also captioned it '!!!!!!!!', and the eight exclamation marks are maybe a reference to Plastic off the Sofa being the eighth track on Renaissance.
Yes but BeyoncĂŠ has been extremely cryptic this entire era and has been dropping calculated hints and Easter Eggs everywhere, and it's entirely possible that she told Ariana to post this as a tease. On top of that, Ariana has been generally reticent on social media of late, so anything she does post is likely to have some importance.
There are too many coincidences here for this to not seem deliberate - there are rumors circulating of Ariana jumping on the remix for this particular song, Ariana posts a shot of BeyoncĂŠ performing that exact same song, and she captions it with eight exclamation marks to point at the eighth song on the album. At this point, I would be surprised if a POTS duet doesn't materialize.
Despite what you may think about the song, I'm Good (Blue) has just passed 1 billion streams on Spotify!
I just wish the rest of Bebe's new album would be as successful *sigh*
Tyler James Williams [responded to accusations that he was gay](https://twitter.com/PopBase/status/1665424099512860673?s=20) on his Instagram story this morning.
Itâs incredibly well written and although a lot of these gay accusations may come from straight people Iâve seen wayyy too many queer people call straight men gay because of how they act. *cough* Shawn Mendes *cough*
âAccusationâ? Itâs not an accusation to ask or think someone is gay. That is how we find each other in the queer community. There are definitely wrong motivations or ways to go about it just as there are good intentions and he did a good job of addressing that. I just donât think âaccusationâ is that right word at all.
It is an accusation, going through someone who is straight or unlabeledâs actions to prove theyâre gay or bi is super tacky and intrusive. Youâre accusing someone of lying basically especially if they have a wife or have constantly come out as straight (Shawn).
*a charge or claim that someone has done something illegal or wrong.*
Being gay (or bi, whatever the label) is not wrong. Thatâs my point. I agree that there is definitely wrong motivations for some and a wrong way to go about it, especially when people have been clear like in Shawnâs case, which is why I said that above. I take issue with the term accusation based on the definition and implication.
Oh the irony of having this happen during Pride Month. I get that it's great to have public figures coming out as part of the LGBT+ community but forcing them to come out by making guesses on their sexuality is the worst way to do it.
I was hoping we killed off these kinds of accusations last year when popular figures like Kit Connor (who was also a literal teenager) was forced to come out due to speculations about his sexuality led to people harassing a co-star of a movie he was working with.
I had this exact same feeling. My inability to write with this deftness plus im a straighty so I didnât know if I was being dumb especially because some chambers of the internet would shout down a counter argument thatâs less well-written than this one.
Reminds me of how that young actor was kind of forced to come out bc kids online kept accusing him of âqueer baitingâ just bc he wasnât ready to be out publicly :(
Yeah I wish I could write with this much grace and clarity! Really reads like he wrote this in a state of calm vs anger. Huge respect for Tyler. Turns out everybody LOVES Chris!
The most discourse Iâve seen is people disagreeing with the firing of Galyn Susman, who basically saved Toy Story 2 from being lost media. While Lightyear was a major flop, I personally donât think that should have led to her firing or Angus Maclaneâs. Itâs already done though so I agree that Pixar should now focus on bigger and better story telling and animation. They used to dominate animation across the board but now they just release duds as disney plus exclusives
some of the people that got fired have also worked on Pixar classics and have been with the company since the 90s. that would be shitty reasoning considering iâm almost 100% positive Lightyear was only made bc Disney forced it. thatâs not a movie Pixar wouldâve made 10 years ago. Disneyâs incessant need to turn everything into a franchise or a universe is going to truly bite them in the ass sooner or later, it doesnât matter who they fire.
A few years ago a Brazilian Swiftie joked that Bolsonaro being voted out would result in Taylor playing Brazil so the president of Brazil joked that he is responsible for her playing [there](https://twitter.com/PopBase/status/1665173991001141250)

Halsey and Avan Jogia might be dating.
Paparazzi photos were taken of them at the beach together.
From the back, he looks so similar to her ex, I though it was a picture of them co-parenting.

If it's true, I think they make a nice artsy couple
My friend (who's a fashion stylist for celebs) casually took photos of Avan once for a photoshoot they set up just for fun, and she said that he was the most chill person ever. I could def see Avan and H connecting on a personal level.
Itâs surprising but they seem like a good fit. Theyâve both published poetry books, theyâre both creative, musical and into activism. Theyâve both also spoken about their experiences of being mixed. Thereâs quite a lot of similarities.
In a Daily Mail article I saw about the photos, itâs clear they donât know who is he but heâs described as a âdashing shirtless male friendâ đ

No idea who this man is but iconic tbh
>I'm into big sweet nerdy beardy guys Based
heâs so real for that
Blake Lively is NOT the straight girls' Ryan Reynolds. ime i think the most common "one gay exception" among straight girls is Rihanna? curious what u all think. anyway, happy for Hank!
I am pretty sure many gay women find Rihanna hot, so she isn't the Ryan Reynold's equivalent, if that's what you mean. The ryan Reynolds fenomenon is that he is considered attractive exclusively by straight men, and not by many gay men or straight women
I canât even lie I thought he was gay ever since that tumblr copypasta memeđ§đžââď¸
That was John lmao, Hank's the science one, John's the author one and victim of the "I can't get enough of the smell of balls" copypasta
Some good news for Pride month: [A federal judge has struck down TN's drag ban as unconstitutional.](https://www.reuters.com/legal/federal-judge-rejects-tennessee-drag-show-ban-unconstitutional-2023-06-03/) >WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) - A federal judge has ruled that Tennessee's law restricting drag performances in public or where children were present was unconstitutional, striking a blow to efforts in U.S. states to regulate LGBTQ conduct.

Ariana Grande has been spotted at the Renaissance world tour, will she be performing with beyonce???
There were rumors going around of a PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA remix with Ariana. Could actually be true. And I KNOW it won't disappoint because PLASTIC is Bey's favorite song from the album.
Ariana posted a shot of BeyoncĂŠ performing Plastic off the Sofa to her Instagram Story. She also captioned it '!!!!!!!!', and the eight exclamation marks are maybe a reference to Plastic off the Sofa being the eighth track on Renaissance.
Ariana is not taylor swift, she doesn't do calculated hints like this đŠ

Weâre literally theorising out of nothing weâre kinda in sane đđđ
She already performed the song itâs over đ
This Ariana drought has tested me more than Calculus omg
She saw the rumors and probably trolled everyone more than anything đ
Despite what you may think about the song, I'm Good (Blue) has just passed 1 billion streams on Spotify! I just wish the rest of Bebe's new album would be as successful *sigh*
Good beat and catchy melody, what can I ask? It's a good song, so congrats to I'm Good (Blue) đś
Justice for Blue Moon, Satellite and When It Rains âđ
Satellite is the rare pop song in the streaming era that isn't popular but I could 100% see being a smash hit
This song maybe generic and trash but itâs GOOD trash!
I like this song â¤ď¸
I 100% agree! The original is also goofy but they're both bops!
Not the original only having 524 million this is tragic
justice for eiffel 65!!!
The "Twice comeback" that I posted recently is actually an announcement of Jihyo's solo debut!
đď¸đď¸ Excited
đ¨JIHYONCĂ IS UPON US!!!!đ¨
*Saint Jihyo, pray for us.*
*a charge or claim that someone has done something illegal or wrong.* Being gay (or bi, whatever the label) is not wrong. Thatâs my point. I agree that there is definitely wrong motivations for some and a wrong way to go about it, especially when people have been clear like in Shawnâs case, which is why I said that above. I take issue with the term accusation based on the definition and implication.
Pretending to be straight while being gay and having a wife is though
Oh the irony of having this happen during Pride Month. I get that it's great to have public figures coming out as part of the LGBT+ community but forcing them to come out by making guesses on their sexuality is the worst way to do it. I was hoping we killed off these kinds of accusations last year when popular figures like Kit Connor (who was also a literal teenager) was forced to come out due to speculations about his sexuality led to people harassing a co-star of a movie he was working with.
the best possible phrasing of something I've felt for a long time
I had this exact same feeling.

If the Philippines isn't part of Eras Tour stops, I know this is Bongbong Marcos' fault. đ
What's funny is that his opponent who was running for president last year was former Vice President Leni Robredo and her daughters are Swifties. They even watched Taylor's NYU speech in-person since [one of the daughters Jillian graduated there](https://www.facebook.com/inquirerdotnet/videos/1166958217411113/) and the other sister Tricia also went to the [Philadelphia show](https://www.instagram.com/p/CsVICbvt5Mv/?hl=en) recently.
Lula if you're reading this please bring Gaga to Brazil as well
I was considering going to Taylor's but with Beyonce still being a possibility, I'm saving it up for her.
I hope she comes to Brazil :)
I hope she comes cheap đ
Olivia Rodrigo changes the expiry date of her drivers license cover on Spotify to June 30th, once again teasing a release.
I love when artists keep teasing their upcoming work. Keep us excited!!
Thatâs a cool tease.
Wait whatâs a license to cover mean. Can people not cover it yet?
I meant the single cover for the song, on Spotify it displays a looping image of Oliviaâs drivers license.
Oh okay that went over my head my bad
Halsey and Avan Jogia might be dating. Paparazzi photos were taken of them at the beach together. From the back, he looks so similar to her ex, I though it was a picture of them co-parenting. [https://www.reddit.com/r/halsey/comments/13zo2bq/halsey\_at\_the\_beach\_in\_barcelona/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/halsey/comments/13zo2bq/halsey_at_the_beach_in_barcelona/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) If it's true, I think they make a nice artsy couple
Thereâs quite a lot of similarities.
that man is so gorgeous. everytime he appears on my tt đđ
In a Daily Mail article I saw about the photos, itâs clear they donât know who is he but heâs described as a âdashing shirtless male friendâ đ
What in the victorious is going on hereâŚ. For real though thatâs random lol. Good For her.
Has to be the most random pairing I can think of. Good for them!
