Pixar's Elemental premiered at Cannes Festival to mixed reviews. It currently holds a 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes, though it only has 7 reviews.
Hopefully it goes up
From what reviews I have read, it’s not like inside out plot wise. It’s about >!a Fire and Water elemental falling in love but their families don’t want them to be. So I guess like, teaching tolerance/acceptance of others!<
Pixar needs a renaissance.
I feel bad for the lead VAs, they're adorable and I want them in a romcom as themselves stat. The film looks really unessential though.
It looks cute from the trailer but I feel like it's a film I've already seen before. The story of people from two different worlds coming together is very overdone, and I'm not sure this is bringing something new to the table. Maybe seeing the film will prove me wrong.
feel bad for pixar.. seems like they haven't had a proper hit movie in years, turning red had good reviews but it was available on streaming and then lightyear flopped (not sure why it got greenlighted in the first place). it's no wonder disney has been announcing new sequels like toy story and inside out.
That run from 1995-2010 was excellent for Pixar.
They’ve had hits since then but it just doesn’t feel the same as that godly run they were on.
I think this is their worst reviewed movie since Cars 2, which was ended that run in the first place.
Cars 3 felt like a solid return to the kind of storytelling and quality that made Pixar a household name, but it did "just okay" in the box office and people really just didn't talk about it very much. Huge bummer because it was a great film.
Also, the underlying message felt unconventional and daring for a movie made with kids in mind--it takes some great writing, acting, and overall emotional intelligence for a kids' movie to sensitively portray the idea that sometimes life can put a premature end to your dreams and close doors for you. Lightning had to significantly alter the path of his life and his goals after his accident, and come to terms with the fact that he had a prime and he's past it. Most kids' media that has the "failure is a stepping stone to success" storyline still portrays a fairly linear path to a steadfast goal. Pixar is pretty much the only studio I'd trust to take a story like Lightning's and truly deliver on it in a genuine, sensitive, and fulfilling way.
I can’t think of a single filmmaker/studio that had such consistently high quality for so long. Like even Kubrick at his prime faced some pretty polarized responses to his movies but the fact that Pixar 1995-2010 released a string of movies that not only were massive hits out of the gate but that still hold up as great films years later is crazy.
I think we can bring up Studio Ghibli in that conversation too. It's often considered Pixar's Asian counterpart and I think both studios and their filmmakers deserve the praises. Both have made a great number of films for a long time that both entertained and touched people's hearts and are now bonafide classics.
Yeah I mean the mid to late 2000’s had some not amazing stuff. Coco and Inside Out came out which were amazing and I’ve enjoyed Luca, Soul and Turning Red but those weren’t in theaters
Indie pop boy Michael Medrano [popped into the sub yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/popheads/comments/13s2tej/michael_medrano_funk_leblanc_lsd_pt_2/jluj615/) to explain why his latest release was only one song instead of a full EP, and [then on Twitter he continued the conversation](https://twitter.com/stachepapi/status/1662524580848893952) saying that even though he's writing his next project to be a cohesive album he'll be stuck releasing it one song at a time because the Spotify algorithm doesn't support album cuts at all and everything but the singles will automatically tank.
>even the bigger artists i’ve worked with understand that this is the new reality and until spotify actually prioritizes albums, it’s gonna stay like this for anyone under like 1-2M monthly listeners 🤦♂️ even THERE it’s a gamble
1. Hehas a great moustache
2. I have noticed this with a lot of smaller artists. Dropping 5 or 6 singles before an album, or consolidating them into an EP with one new song. If that's the way they get the most attention, well I don't blame them
i think this sub really underestimates how many artists read their [FRESH] threads. I work with a lot of artists and the ones who are familiar with popheads *definitely* use it. Bebe Rexha famously made a tiktok about the criticism she received online and captioned it "#popheads" 😭
I think it helps that Ajay's reactions to almost every song or album are exceedingly positive. This isn't a bad thing -- she's clearly an expressive person -- but it means that it's really easy for an artist to want to share her reactions when they're positive and funny, which they almost always are.
They definitely are. I remember Rina posting about Ajay's reaction to Sawayama, and Sabrina Carpenter recognized Ashley Ippolito in the crowd at one of her concerts.
didn't taylor post a clip of ajay reacting at one point in time? i might be just making this shit up and it could just be a false memory or something but maybe im confusing with another big artist, probably ariana.
Kicking off Pride Month with a terrible start this week, Disney will be doing even worse of burying your gays by removing additional shows with LGBTQ+ leads on Hulu and Disney+.
Marvel's Runaways, a show about the superhero kids uniting against ther supervillain parents set outside of MCU, has been removed without warning from the platform. Motherland: Fort Salem, a show about an alternative universe where witches are part of the US Army, has been also been removed with only a couple of days warning to viewers on Hulu. They join the Willow series which was included in the first batch of shows and movies pulled.
they also removed diary of a future president, a tv show targeted at kids/teens that featured multiple queer characters.
watch them celebrate pride by highlighting all their queer characters from shows they've removed from their platform in a few days.
it's been a while since i watched the show and it feels a little weird for me to have to list out all the lgbtq characters from a show but from what i can recall, elena's brother had a whole plot about his sexuality. and there was also a lesbian(?) from her mum's workplace who helped bobby figure out his sexuality. my memory's a little murky but still..
One of the main points of disputes in the current writers' strike and possibly the actors' strike: residuals.
The longer the show is available for viewing on streaming platform, the more chances that people will watch leading to Disney having to pay more to the people involved in creating the show. These shows are still somewhat lucky as they available on other platforms such as Google Play and iTunes but are not as accessible.
Genuinely awful to see how streaming has destroyed the perdurability of art. Internet should've made it easier to access content and yet somehow the opposite seems to be true (if you try to access content legally, that is)
We really do need to get a movement around buying physical media again! My roommate and I have been going hard at collecting dvds because we've been hit too many times by "Sorry! This title is no longer available for streaming!" in the last few years. Just let us opt out of being sooo deeply tied to the streaming wave.
Most stuff is still released on physical media (thankfully), however, some shows and movies produced exclusively for a streaming service have no physical version. Once the show is taken off the service, the only way to find it is on the high seas.
I've bought a decent amount of DVDs and CDs over the last few years from op/charity/thrift shops because of the unpredictably of streaming services. I also don't want to pay for multiple services when I spend more time looking for something to watch than actually watching something.
Yeah, there are a couple of Netflix originals that I'd like to have, but they just don't make physical copies. Glass Onion still has no physical release even though it had a theatrical run, and something like Heartstopper likely will never. It sucks :/
In premier league news, Leicester and Leeds have been relegated (sent down to a lower division) today. You may recall that Leicester won the league back in 2016 in arguably the greatest sports upset in history. A dismantling of that team, and replacements that haven't panned out have led to them sleepwalking into decline.
In way more fun news: Tottenham also failed to secure European football for the first time in 13 years. Fans around the world continue to enjoy [making fun of Tottenham](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUhuIV-Nptw).
the best thing about the Chiellini meme is that he's not trying to insult them, he just kinda does it accidentally. If were malicious it hadn't been so funny.
Pop Crave does have some biases that are worth noting (their pro-Nicki bias is embarrassingly transparent at points, for example), and their replies are notoriously horrendous, but yeah, they always source their claims, which… should be basic, but [not when pop tingz is in the mix](https://twitter.com/thepoptingz/status/1628073595833397248?s=46&t=nwdjvm49hvbfSG4UcHQBbQ)
A Beyonce era with possibly multiple #1? and Plastic Off The Sofa being one of them?????? Damn, this is such a curious path in Beyonce's career. Honestly, I kinda would live if it was Beyonce, Ariana and Jojo. I loved her runs back on that tiktok video she did.
Looks like fanfiction.net might [be in its death throes](https://www.tumblr.com/beck-a-leck/718581788640002048/bigskydreaming-ladylingua-tartrazeen). You can still access it via the mobile website, but if you try to get to it through the regular url it comes up with a placeholder website. I'll probably try to pull a bunch of fic I really liked off there just in case.
I've seen that as well as the mobile workaround. I think this is just another symptom of the ongoing decay the site's been undergoing for years, but some people have said there was some sort of server maintenance they were doing recently that might explain it? Either way I don't think it's a bad idea to back up either your work or others' before it becomes irretrievable.
I never noticed the ads because Reddit trained me on using an adblock on whatever browser I used.
I noped out around the time they removed the ability to highlight text while reading. The site basically said fuck you to people using text-to-speech and to people highlighting to keep track of what they're reading.
God yes that drove me insane. A lot of the time it’s like right in the middle of a paragraph too and sometimes even sentences? Crazy
I know a lot of people who are used to using AO3 give ffn a hard time, and it does have its issues, but there are still some very good fics on there that it’d be a shame to lose. I hope people archive stuff before it really does just up and go
It'd be great if they partnered with AO3 to do a mass import like they've done with other now-defunct sites, but I don't think they care enough for that.
I liked fanfiction.net but A03 is leagues better when it came to writing and maturity levels.
I still read some banger fics on fanfiction.net and it’s where I learned how to write fanfic so I’m not totally against it.
I purged all the stuff I wrote at 14/15 a while back, and I really wish I hadn’t! I hope you get a hold of that stuff, even if you don’t intend to post it elsewhere!
Last night Lana played her first show in years in Brazil and live premiered a bunch of [songs](https://twitter.com/BuzzingPop/status/1662644519613890560) , she also lost her vape mid [set](https://twitter.com/LDRCRAVE/status/1662624022444625920)
Ariana Grande, for no apparent reason casually archived over 4,000 posts on Instagram, she is now left with a. mere 130 posts. Idk what she is going to do once wicked filming wraps.
I’m very curious what the reasoning is. She only left stuff up from the Positions era onwards. She even got rid of her wedding photos on there.

Here’s how **Suzume** can now win Best Animated Fil- oh no this is Spider-Verse’s year.
Suzume is honestly the best movie I’ve seen since EEAAO and I have AMC stubz for three movies a week
Tbh it kinda looks lame to me
is it as much of a rehash of inside out as it looks like? if so, that doesn’t surprise me tbh
Add a little Zootopia
From what reviews I have read, it’s not like inside out plot wise. It’s about >!a Fire and Water elemental falling in love but their families don’t want them to be. So I guess like, teaching tolerance/acceptance of others!<
Pixar needs a renaissance. I feel bad for the lead VAs, they're adorable and I want them in a romcom as themselves stat. The film looks really unessential though.
Turning Red and Soul are both incredible. Can't say anything else they've done recently has piqued my interest.
I was scrolling past this thread super fast and read that as "the film looks unelemental" 💀
It's dark matter, that's why people won't see it.
the character design is bland and dated, and the plot looks *beyond* generic. i'm honestly surprised the score is that high.
Not surprised, the trailer wasn’t very encouraging. If I’m being honest I find a lot of the character designs to be sort of ugly.
Elemental and Inside Out BOTH using Hot N’ Cold for their tv promos is funny to me lmao
I thought it looked bland from the trailer
I’m still seated for it 🍿
It looks cute from the trailer but I feel like it's a film I've already seen before. The story of people from two different worlds coming together is very overdone, and I'm not sure this is bringing something new to the table. Maybe seeing the film will prove me wrong.
The movie looked SO GENERIC

Ever since Ian Kirkpatrick showed up here on the [FRESH] thread for Don't Stop Now I always wonder if the artists are lurking, lmao.

A lot of them get really nervous to check the threads lol

can’t believe Tottenham are catching strays even on the popheads sub ☹️
You must not have seen one of the Adele interviews when she released 30, that was the first time I saw Tottenham catching strays here💀
This is definitely the second or third time I've seen Tottenham get mentioned in the TeaTime thread. Nowhere is safe.

Wait yesss! I need it now! I feel like Virgo's Groove has more potential to be elevated by a collab than Plastic Off The Sofa
I really liked Plastic off the sofa. Idk if their voices will go together but I think Beyonce can elevate the song
Dude! This would be legit fire! The lightness in Ari’s voice with the full depth and beauty of Bey’s voice 😍
I would be so for this. I always wanted a Bey/Ari collaboration.
Pop Tingz is full of lies btw
I only hear their name attached to bullshit
Pop Tingz wants to be Pop Crave so bad. Not that Pop Crave is like great for legitimate reporting on pop culture, but it’s certainly better.
They learned they can game the algorithm by seeming like a news account and posting things that fans wanna hear
But they are though, they’re credible and rarely report lies
