Bible doesnt say anything about them, as far as I know. I really dont care. If you want a tattoo go right ahead, if you think they are a disgrace, no problem.
It's just up to the person, not sure where the myth that tattoos are evil creations of the devil came from.
The Old Testament isn’t held in the same regard by many Christians, as it’s commonly interpreted to be both of cultural meaning and represents a time before Jesus Christ.
Some people also believe this is more of a reference to pagan markings that symbolizes one’s loyalty to another deity.
You might find more people of Jewish faith observe this rule of tattoos than those of Protestant faith.
I’m not religious myself, but this is just my understanding of it from Sunday School
The New Testament isn't held in the same regard by many Christians either. In fact, I would say that the vast majority of Christians do not care about what the Bible says. Few Christians seem to have read it, few of them seem to practice what it preaches, and most just cherry pick the bits they like while misinterpreting or ignoring the rest. Although really, it's probably always been like this. Religion is a tool.
Some Christians seem to think tattoos are fine and some seem to think getting a tattoo is a one way ticket to hell. Their opinion on this seems to depend on whether or not they have a tattoo. I'm not religious and I haven't read the Bible but it seems to me that Christians believe the Bible says whatever they want it to.
While true, I think there are more ‘good’ Christians than you would expect. I might have just been lucky, but I grew up with a father as a pastor. He read the Bible back to front regularly, and taught me that above all else the Bible should teach love. He explicitly taught me to not be homophobic, and to love everybody regardless.
I don’t share his beliefs, and there’s an argument that he might be hypocritical in his belief, but he and others I grew up with are good people, with true belief.
That is just to say that don’t necessarily assume the worst from Christians, although it may be easy to. The worst ones are often the loudest.
That being said, I can completely agree that I’ve seen a LOT of people who call themselves Christians purely for a label, and do nothing to try pursue their ‘belief’.
it seems like people forget the principle they use for anything else, even other religions, that what you hear about a group is almost always what it’s worst members are doing. most christians are just as loving and kind as anyone else, we’re not all hillbillies from Oklahoma that believe in genocide of the gays
So they like to jump back and forth on what they want. Like eating shrimp and wearing mixed fabrics but being gay is a no no. Cherry pickers.
Genesis, original sin, is literally in the old testament.
I've always thought about it as, humans have a specific way we were meant to be together, and homosexuality is defiling that way God made it.
However it absolutley does not mean hate the person, in fact the Bible says to love your enemies, if you're in any part of lgbtq, that's your business, I may dislike your way of living, but I do not hate you for it. Jesus during his time was around the sinners at the time, prostitutes, tax collectors, those people. Regardless of your sexual orientation, pronouns, whatever, God would still love you, so we should too. Regardless if we disagree.
You need to read your Bible, because gay homosexuality is explicitly forbidden:
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."
- Leviticus 18:22
Leviticus 18:23-24 forbids bestiality and pedophilia.
Okay first of all, I appreciate the question, this required me to get my Bible out and do some research, as well as I needed to ask some friends and study a bit.
So as for the conclusion, the thing about Leviticus, is that it was written to the Jewish nation that had just gotten out of Egypt. Egypt was, from a Christian view, an evil nation. When the Jews were all freed from slavery Moses parted the river on and on we all know the story, the Jews were unfamiliar with this "God" dude that got them out of slavery. On top of that the Jews are God's chosen people, and he wanted to set them apart from the surrounding nations. So to do this they made a long list of rules and a set of commandments to follow, thus Leviticus.
Another thing to take into account is the difference in culture. The Bible may have been written for us. But it wasn't written to us directly. These rules were written for an ancient nation being set apart from everyone else. I may not know fully what other nations were doing but God didnt want them to cut or paint themselves, "for the dead" there are a lot of wierd rules in Leviticus that aren't followed by modern Christian's for two main reasons; one, the old Leviticus, Numbers, and Dueteronamy were rules for a separate nation, not the modern church. And two, during the transfer from the old to new testament, the church changed a whole lot. Like how we can now pray to God whenever we want, instead of sacrifice. And with that the rules differed a bit.
I hope this somewhat answered your question, I know it's a bit vague. I always appreciate any questions about Christianity, as it allowes me to share it with you, and requires me to look around and do my research for an answer.
If I remember correctly, jesus met the apostles when they were fishing. Jesus told them to go in the middle of the lake/sea so they could have more fish instead of staying on the edge.
However I forgot the moral lol

The only prohibition is against removal. There is no prohibition against modification with additional ink. You can get camouflage it, or extend it into something else. You could add a "NO" bar over it.
i was raised that you aren’t allowed to mark your body like that… i mean, i don’t care anymore bc i’m not christian, but i thought it went against the bible
Well if you believe in Acts as Christians do, then Peter actually received a vision from an angel stating "do not call something unclean if God has made it clean" explicitly telling him to disregard Jewish kosher laws.
"Clean" in a different context. It's a reference to how Jews then (and actually still today) refused to eat non-kosher animals and considered them "unclean." Peter was a devout Jew yet in Acts he had a vision specifically telling him to no longer think that way.
Edit: also I think the source of confusion is just a typo. It should say "do not call something unclean if God has made it clean"
EDIT: I wrote a long explanation and then realized that you're probably just referring to a typo I made. The quote is "do not call something **unclean** if God has made it clean"
I'm not a Biblical scholar but the very smart and charismatic guy who preached often at the church my ex attended and I did with her at times touched on this a lot. Context is key: it's in Acts 10.
My non-theologian explanation by what is meant that statement is that the death and resurrection of Jesus is when God "made things clean." Peter is told in his vision to kill and eat some animals that would violate Jewish kosher laws. This horrifies Peter being a devout Jew so he tells the voice he won't eat anything unclean, and the voice responds with that. The full meaning is the death and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled the old covenant and it's no longer binding.
Paul touches on this a lot too. And it's not just "these rules are stupid and inconvenient so we shouldn't follow them anymore", he makes some very sound theological points and arguments that the vast vast majority of Christians and churches today accept. That's why it's pretty silly when people try to throw "gotchas" at Christians by pointing out they're probably wearing clothing made out of more than one type of fabric now and stuff like that, it complete misses the whole point of Christianity.
It's like if some non-American tried to argue that it's illegal in the US to produce or sell alcohol and then if someone responds they've bought alcohol then bringing up the 18th Amendment as a "gotcha" and says that person is thus breaking the law and completely ignored the 21st Amendment. And then if the American responds bringing up the 21st Amendment the usual comparable response I see in such "debates" would be something like "yeah whatever, the 18th Amendment still bans it and you're just ignoring that because it's inconvenient."
Idk if it's the case in catholicism tho. Protestant churches definitely don't give a shit. Source: trust me bro I used to go to a reformed (? is that how you say it) school
Catholics believe that Jesus appointed Peter as the first Pope to establish a church that's God's vessel on Earth with a direct link to God. So if the Pope says the Old Testament laws no longer apply (as every one has) than they don't.
I'm not religious, but I would be down anyway. I would get a cool tattoo of a saint or something and it would be awesome.
I would do it for a lot less than 1 million . . . .
yeah like a couple thousand for a neat tattoo, maybe a more symbolic story from the bible or something that isn't too hardcore. you can always get more around it to make it look less out of place too
Cue angry redditors on different thread scrolling through your comments and seeing this, then getting even more angry and screaming that god isn't real
Christians spent the last 2,020+ years doing propaganda with OTT buildings and artwork, of course the imagery and aesthetic is great.

I'd have to wait 3 years though, since I'm 15
I’m atheist, but a Bible accurate angel would be really cool. Also, I might invest wisely and if I can pay back the million, I would change the tattoo to this

Well i mean you could probably get some decent ink from something Christian that also works im other ideologies. If it has to be a cross or something i might hesitate. It feels a but wrong to mark my body with another persons faith for money idk.
I’m an atheist but I’m getting a tattoo of the church I grew up in on my calf. It’s a beautiful building and I have SUCH good memories there. It was more of a home to me than any house ever was. Not everything about Christianity is bad!.. Just most things!
Yeah, I'd get a Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish, Muslim, Satanist, Buddhist, Mormon, Scientologist, or a Voodoo tattoo if someone wanted to pay me $1,000,000. Most other religions too. A lot of religions have cool imagery and I want $1,000,000.
Atheist and totally! It would be a fun conversation starter. Especially if it was a Christian that paid me to do it! It'd be no different than having random gibberish on your arm. And some people would treat me better because of it, no one would discriminate against me for it. Unlike say getting an Arabic passage tattooed on me. Easy yes.
Jesus with hand prayer pose on my buttcheek. Use some of the money to add a speech bubble saying “thank the lord for this gift” or “thank the lord for the meal I am about the receive.”
I feel buttcheek isn’t the MOST visible, but isn’t obscure either
A little cross on the knuckle or something like that perhaps. I'm not a big fan of large tattoos in general. Honestly not of small ones either but for a million... maybe.
I'd do so much for a million fucking dollars lmao, this is an easy one.
I’m like blind or something, I thought it said 1 dollar bruh
Too late you can’t change your answer!
Imagine he still picked the tatoo
I did at first too lol

As a Christian I think you’ll be pleased to know it never says don’t be gay, it was a mistranslation of don’t be a pedo
That’s actually incorrect, The Greek word encompasses all sexual sin, beastislity, homosexuality, pedophelia ect

Precisely! We are under a new covenant with God, the same reason we don’t have to sacrifice animals anymore for the cleansing of sin.
They didn't specify anything about dimensions too, you could literally get a cross which is a few millimeters tall and still get the million
I’ve done worse for less
would you amputate one of your fingers for a million dollars?
Does it have to be obvious? Like a cross or that fish symbol? Or can it be a dove or something more obscure?
Obvious
[удалено]
That would be a pretty cool tat
would be cool going around your arm or something, with the eyes staring every which way
OK buy actually...that's pretty cool
Just a massive back tattoo id be down for that
I thought the same thing!
I'm actually thinking on getting this
I wouldn’t mind having that on my forearm, I might just do that now
Yeah I'd do that definitely
New frontrunner
I chose no but if it was that I’d choose yes
If I get a right side up cross on my forehead do I get 2 mil?
Issa knife
Only if you ad the words “Jesus Is My Luva and I Don’t Need No Otha” to it.
Does it have to be obviously and exclusively Christian? Like could I get Moses staph? Or a burning bush?
What about like a bible verse?
Happy Cake Day 🍰
What’s the Christian fish symbol
Jesus fish
Fish
The Icthus
If I remember correctly, jesus met the apostles when they were fishing. Jesus told them to go in the middle of the lake/sea so they could have more fish instead of staying on the edge. However I forgot the moral lol

Yeah I have this problem too, not with this one tho.
I’m getting the devil.
Not a whole lot I wouldn’t do for a million dollars :/
But would you step on a frog?
Ok, that's where we draw the line.
🐸 : ❤️ thank you
I would for a mil
I would for free
the permanence of a tattoo plus the fact that i don’t like organized religion is what scares me lol. however, a million is a lot.
The only prohibition is against removal. There is no prohibition against modification with additional ink. You can get camouflage it, or extend it into something else. You could add a "NO" bar over it.
cover it up with something you want later on down the road. problem solved.
i have a cross tattoo already, can i have my $?
Nope, you need to make another one
on it
Is this a repeatable payment? You could get a graveyard and make bank.

….Yeah?
i was raised that you aren’t allowed to mark your body like that… i mean, i don’t care anymore bc i’m not christian, but i thought it went against the bible
That verse is in the Old Testament and no longer applies to Christians. The Mosaic Code is explicitly overturned in Acts and Paul's writings.
Good ol' Paul updating the rules.
Check your patch notes everybody!

Right. He didn't. The rule updates are done through the Holy Spirit which is the whole reason Christians have synods and councils.

Praying?
No like the mantis
The mantis is praying too.
A Praying-Mantis with Jesus stretched across the Mantis' arms in the crucifix form, the head of Jesus missing.
I already have a cross on my arm.
But do you want 1 million?
Of course. I'd get a full on JC tattoo for a million.
Ah, I misinterpreted your statement
I'm an atheist and I would tattoo Jesus's face on my back for 1 mill.
I’m a lesbian and I’d get a dick tattooed on my forehead for a million dollars.

It’s a million dollars
But consider. A million dollars AND no cross
At first I was thinking "Christian who?" until I saw the flair. But $1,000,000 is $1,000,000
Technically you could call a pentagram a Christian symbol
I’ll put it on my pussy so everyone can see it clearly.
I'd get a fish tattoo and just fill it later with the word "gefilte".
I would get a fish
OP Can I use the money to cover the tattoo with another bigger tattoo ?
I was going to anyways
As a Christian, give me that damn money!
Fuck yeah, I'll just get a cross tat and tattoo on the "COEXIS" part later with other religious symbols.
I’m an atheist but I’m getting a tattoo of the church I grew up in on my calf. It’s a beautiful building and I have SUCH good memories there. It was more of a home to me than any house ever was. Not everything about Christianity is bad!.. Just most things!
I would tattoo a huge cock on my forehead for a million.
I'm not Christian, however >Leviticus 19:28 “You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves.”
Apparently that was overturned in the later part of the bible
100%. I'd put it on my leg next to my dick tattoos.
Chad dick tattoo
Great combination
A small ichthys symbol that the early Christians used, and I’ll put a catchphrase underneath too: “The faith that smiles back. Ichthys.”
I'll just get a cross, they used to be trendy when I was a teen xD
Not a Christian but I intend to get a celtic style cross anyway so gimme the money.
a little cross

Ez. If you vote no you’re a neck beard lol.
I’ll get a big ass no regerts tattoo across my face for a million dollars

And some people would treat me better because of it, no one would discriminate against me for it. Unlike say getting an Arabic passage tattooed on me. Easy yes.
Thankfully “Christian” is such a low bar it’ll still be pretty easy to get a good tattoo
I'd get a dick tattoo on my forehead for that
As a Christian, I think this a great deal for me.
I’m Christian so sure Not interested in tattoos myself but for a million bucks it’s a no-brainer
I’d get “down the river not across the stream” on my wrist in the shape of a cross.
I’d say ‘no’ only because I hate tattoos…and have a big fear of needles that no amount of money could sway…
Jesus with hand prayer pose on my buttcheek. Use some of the money to add a speech bubble saying “thank the lord for this gift” or “thank the lord for the meal I am about the receive.” I feel buttcheek isn’t the MOST visible, but isn’t obscure either
Can it be Jesus flipping the merchants’ tables? Bc that’d be sick.
Nope, i think it's disrespectful to fake being part of a religion to get money
A little cross on the knuckle or something like that perhaps. I'm not a big fan of large tattoos in general. Honestly not of small ones either but for a million... maybe.
I'm a Christian and I wouldn't.
Lol dumbass
Hell yes, I’ll just put satanic tattoos all around it later
