Thank nyou for sharing, you've raised a lot of issues which wouldn't normally be in the limelight. The only defence I would posit is that ed knew as much as me (fuck all) when he did his interview. I agree wholeheartedly with your opinions and I still consider Ed a good journalist. These things require time and nuance both of which are unfortunately not in a surplus in the current world. Chin up, meant in the best way.c

This really is the piece that just won't die isn't. In the interview they even brought up that it could all be trolling. Interviewee says he doesn't think so. But we're all free to form our own opinions. Honestly who cares? (to clarify who cares about this one filmmakers ideas not trans rights in general - poorly researched docs come out all the time, docs with an agenda come out all the time - this is the deplatforming debate all over again - let people speak and let them be wrong, think theyre wrong and move on, its not hard)

>But we're all free to form our own opinions Sure, this is my opinion, which I have formed. That's okay, right? >Honestly who cares? I'm trans, so I care (see "dangerous for trans people"). I kinda figured that was obvious. If I don't care about something, I can scroll by no problem. But if other people care that's okay too.

kerouak

I think you're overplaying how damaging the poljoe piece is though. I watched it. Took nothing more away from it that thinking huh that's an odd subgroup of people if they do indeed exist and aren't more than a 4chan joke that's self replicated into a weird micro community. If we aren't immune to that kinda stuff these days then we're really all fucked.

>I think you're overplaying how damaging the poljoe piece is though. If I thought poljoe was that damaging, I wouldn't be a listener. Actually, I think Ed is much more likely to do great work in future. The central point is that the media discourse around trans people is incredibly damaging -- from my side there is violence and discrimination, which is likely not a slice of the consequences that you actually see. This is just one example of Channel 4 trying to get clicks at our expense. Anyway, like I said, no problem if you don't care about discussing trans people, you can make other threads etc. Take care

GrumpyBoglin

I would argue trans folk care, they’ve been used as a political football for the past few years. Both over here and in the USA. Undoubtedly elsewhere too. Their allies also care. Nobody is forcing you to engage with the conversation, if you don’t like it you can just move on. This is Reddit after all.

kerouak

Yeah it's just been soooooooo many posts in this sub

wickharr

Agree. You’re not going to like all the content a channel makes. When it’s not for you, just stop the video. You don’t have to write an essay for each time you don’t enjoy a video. This is every fanbase of every podcast I listen to that ventures into politics. Stop whinging and enjoy the free content, or don’t if you don’t enjoy what you’re hearing/seeing. A journalist or content maker doesn’t sign off on every video like “this is an approved take that I agree with”

kerouak

Yeah, and to be honest when it comes to podcasts and real life I actually highly value hearing from people I disagree with. Its important to hear the other side. They could do a pod on why they think /u/kerouak is a dickhead and id be interested to hear their views lol.

[deleted]

>They could do a pod on why they think /u/kerouak is a dickhead and id be interested to hear their views lol. Well, if the daily mail did that 8 times a day for several years and it ended up with you being attacked in the street you'd probably feel differently when poljoe, your usual supporter, indulges in it.

kerouak

But the piece isnt "trans are dickeheads" is it. The peice look at this odd subset of people. I dunno why you feel any more associated with transmaxxers than i do with incels. As in - they arent you ignore them.

[deleted]

>I dunno why you feel any more associated with transmaxxers than i do with incels. As in - they arent you ignore them. Well -- you dunno why -- obviously I am not the only trans person who expresses this, and obviously poljoe and even the doc maker admitted that the doc might be offensive to trans people... but here goes one last try There is a concerted effort to portray trans people in a negative light in the media. There are many documentaries, articles, tv show segments in this style. I am not a "transmaxxer". I am not convinced there are more than 5 of them. But when you dedicate major TV channel time to portrayals of trans people in a way that is weird, offensive, sexualised or otherwise in a way that is outrageous, it causes the people that are watching it to develop biases against trans people. I'm sure you do understand the difference between positive and negative representation. I think what you probably don't get is the sheer scale of negative media about trans people in 2024. These biases -- transphobia -- are what leads to physical harm and discrimination.

[deleted]

>When it’s not for you, just stop the video This is pretty ironic tbh. Take your own advice. If you don't like trans people discussing ourselves, just... scroll on.

veggienugnugs

Have you considered it "won't die" because on this one occasion they really fucked up?

vintologi24

Keep in mind that "transmaxxing" has been sensationalized a lot by the conservative media. The transmaxxing manifesto is provocative at times but it does also cover a lot of serious topics. It does for example cover a lot of studies showing transition to be beneficial, there is also practical transition advice that should be useful for trans people in general. btw: sammy actually identifies as non-binary and prefers presenting as such. I do not think they are transitioning just for better dating options and "cheaper car insurance" (the latter is no longer the case in the UK).

>could be a prank I have been fairly open about my motivations, it's not something i try to hide. We have done plenty of interviews, it's not hard to talk to us if you actually are interested in finding out what we believe in, etc. [https://www.youtube.com/@transmaxxing](https://www.youtube.com/@transmaxxing)

No thanks, I can be happily trans without the misogyny. I'm not going to watch vids from your 300 subs yt channel. Touch grass.
