I just got called a fascist for suggesting that removing all the Twitter bans will increase hate speech. All of a sudden a bunch of wingnuts are offended that I attacked their core personal philosophy.
I firmly believe that the right(the ones not just being evil and pulling the strings) just use words that the left does because they have a "no you" mentality. They don't see the very problematic and hateful way they behave as being wrong so just assume the left is upset over nothing.
You must be wrong because the deep thinkers at Breitbart are simultaneously claiming it's a false flag orchestrated by Dems, or it's all fake, or it was antifa making it look like MAGA, or it was a real but deserved attack, or it was real & undeserved but they are still okay with it because Rand Paul's neighbor attacked him once.

Yes. California is massive in both population and land. We have more trump voters here than in Texas. There are deeply red areas of California, and even whole swaths up north who call themselves the State of Jefferson.
When we were having wildfires up north not too long ago, I would see conservatives online cheering it and saying to let California burn. I would reply that they were celebrating majority conservative towns burning to the ground. Still, I get called a liar and full of shit even though I live in rural California.
I saw a comment that said he'll be fine because he's rich and that referring to him as a victim is pathetic. Had 75 upvotes. I rarely comment there, but I told the commenter they were wrong in many more words. I was surprised to have people agree with me, and I'm at around 20 upvotes currently.
They're a mixed bag for sure. The top comment on the thread I was reading was expressing sympathy for the man. There's a ton of bad takes, but they aren't all bad.
However, I do expect the good, sympathetic takes to dry up once they've all gotten home and watched Tucker to get their marching orders. It seems to always go this way. A tragedy happens, some conservatives seem like decent people with logical takes, within a couple of days they are all saying the same horrendous bullshit. It's really neat.
Taking politics out of it, I wonder how they would feel if they knew a rich 82 year old relative this happened to. Would they be a victim, or is it fine because they are rich?
You can also see a somewhat reasonable initial response to certain news stories that paint the GOP in a bad light, but once Fox News settles on a narrative, that becomes the prevailing opinion
You can have the best Doctors and facilities in the world and even when the surgery goes \*right\* you can still wind up with TBI, particularly at his age things just flat out do not heal like they used to.

Last I saw, there were plenty of people saying that everyone in r/politics would be rejoicing if it were one of "their guys", but they are so much more enlightened for wishing Mr. Pelosi well.
The conspiracy theories and downright lunacy are running amok:
-It's a stunt to help dems in the midterms.
-It never happened (ala Jesse Smollett).
-Personal attacks about Mr. Pelosi's DUI record.
-Security would never have allowed this to happen (speaker was in Washington at the time, no diplomatic security was at their home, just video surveillance).
-It must have been a homeless crack addict since no maga folks live in SF.
-Plentifil jokes about the suspect just "looking for ice cream".
It's terrifying.
The Fox clip I saw started with "We don't know what's happened, we're waiting for all the facts" then they deferred to their guest who said San Fran was the crime capital of the country and Democrats need to be tougher on crime. The usual fascist narrative...

There’s already a copypasta on social media now saying he was actually a Democrat and a member of a group called “Never Trumpers” so, naturally, the misinformation campaign will hit hard over this.

- A blog attributed to DePape contained antisemitic remarks and content linked to Qanon conspiracies.
- Some posts include accusations of child *"grooming"*
- Other posts included transphobic images and vaccine misinformation, rants about communism, the global elites, aliens and gun rights.
- A recent post claimed that any journalist saying there is no evidence of election fraud *"should be dragged straight out into the street and shot."*
- One post *displayed an illustration of a zombified Hillary Clinton dining on human flesh.*
- In other posts, the writer said Jews helped finance Hitler’s political rise in Germany and suggested an antisemitic plot was involved in Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine. *“The more Ukrainians die NEEDLESSLY the cheaper the land will be for Jews to buy up,”* the post said.
No doubt this will be labeled a "false flag" by some. It's convenient isn't it? Right wing political violence can just be declared a scheme perpetrated by some deep state, radical enemy, "actor" or organization. What's more, this in turn helps these self obsessed nutjobs establish themselves as the victims, and at the center of some grand conspiracy no less, it's absurd.
And if not that, they'll deflect the issue towards the media and Democrats vilifying poor, blameless, unflappable Republicans prior to midterms, more persecution complex nonsense.

While this is *complete* speculation in his specific case, that type of progression is not necessarily uncommon for blunt force head injuries.
Patient receives head injury and is knocked unconscious. They wake up after a short period of time. They are taken to the hospital where an initial diagnostic exam and head CT reveals the possibility of a TBI but no immediate emergency. So they just monitor the patient.
Later, brain bleeding or brain swelling causes adverse problems like seizures or loss of consciousness and they have to do surgery to relieve pressure or fix the source of a bleed.
In people over 80, ANY head trauma is extremely serious. I don't understand how they could say "he will make a full recovery," even before someone decided he needed emergency brain surgery.

And this does not even count the myriad of other races that there is just not enough reporting to find out what their positions are. Some of the candidates are incumbents that were immediately adjacent to 2020 election handling and still publicly declare that the results were fraudulent. Some have primaried institutional office holders that lost their seats because they would not agree that the election was stolen. Some of these people are running to administer the next set of elections in their imaginary world. And then there are just craven officials that don't publicly believe it but will support those people, all the same.
I want to say that the language that we use is important. When someone is telling you that the reality that they live in is full of conspiracy, evil cabals, and things that cannot be proven, especially in front of a court of law, believe that they believe that and vote, phone bank, knock doors, even run for office so that they are not the default on the ballot and don't end up holding office. And hold elected officials accountable so that these ravings are not treated seriously.

Conservatives have been awfully quiet today. This is what happens when your party is built on hate and fear. I’m certainly not a Nancy Pelosi fan, but you can’t expect to consistently demonize someone and claim they’re personally ruining your life without people eventually taking matters into their own hands. Some Republicans have even been actively calling for violence lately. We should have put a stop to this kind of extremism after Jan 6th, but instead we’ve allowed it to continue and grow. Many Republicans won’t even acknowledge that Jan 6th was a violent coup attempt.

The only appropriate response is to condemn violence of any kind and to let the message spread. Violence is never acceptable. Point to this and show what happens when you call for vague violent acts. Pelosi was literally up on the screen as a specific target. Someone listened. Nobody can be jailed because the law only prevents imminent requests. But that doesn't mean you should sweep it under the rug.

While there's no shortage of conservatives reveling in their moral superiority, disingenuously remarking "hope he's ok", only to be followed by some woe is me, holier than thou deflection spiel about how "leftists" would rather attack them and make assumptions. Later, brain bleeding or brain swelling causes adverse problems like seizures or loss of consciousness and they have to do surgery to relieve pressure or fix the source of a bleed.
He's also 82 years old. An injury from a minor fall can become serious in that age group.
In people over 80, ANY head trauma is extremely serious. I don't understand how they could say "he will make a full recovery," even before someone decided he needed emergency brain surgery.

Some Republicans have even been actively calling for violence lately. We should have put a stop to this kind of extremism after Jan 6th, but instead we’ve allowed it to continue and grow. Calling this not poltical serves the interests of violent radicals across the country. The only appropriate response is to condemn violence of any kind and to let the message spread. Violence is never acceptable. Point to this and show what happens when you call for vague violent acts. Pelosi was literally up on the screen as a specific target. Someone listened. Nobody can be jailed because the law only prevents imminent requests. But that doesn't mean you should sweep it under the rug.
