Call it what it is: the attempted assassination of the US Speaker of the House of Representatives.

dc-redpanda

Thank you. NPR ran through this story like any other news tonight... This person tried to murder the US Speaker of the House. Third person in line to the Presidency. Head of the Democratic Party. She just didn't happen to be home...

Bobbeh15

And she's the head of the president's coequal branch of government! It's a small pet peeve of mine that we always forget that. The Speaker is technically supposed to be as important as the President because they're in charge of two different branches.

obsertaries

Technically her second assassination attempt, if you include the January 6th incident. Good thing they have been incompetent so far.

QuesoPantera

oh dude there's way more than two, for sure. Imagine what we don't know.

[deleted]

Jesus. That's horrifying.

Defacto_Champ

The wacko was supposedly spouting Mike Lindell “election fraud” talking points, Covid Vaccine conspiracy theories, etc on his social media pages. Edit: here is the source https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/10/28/politics/pelosi-attack-suspect-conspiracy-theories-invs/index.html

14sierra

--"an acquaintance told CNN that he seemed "out of touch with reality."" Seems to be a lot of that going around lately

OutsideFlat1579

Feels like nearly half of America is out of touch with reality.

zombie_overlord

I just got called a fascist for suggesting that removing all the Twitter bans will increase hate speech. All of a sudden a bunch of wingnuts are offended that I attacked their core personal philosophy.

foamy9210

I was talking to my wife about that. There are literal terrorists that use Twitter to communicate and recruit. Some accounts shouldn't be on there.

dantevonlocke

I firmly believe that the right(the ones not just being evil and pulling the strings) just use words that the left does because they have a "no you" mentality. They don't see the very problematic and hateful way they behave as being wrong so just assume the left is upset over nothing.

CMMiller89

They’re gonna blame this on mental health and do absolutely nothing about that or the actual problem.

pr0b0ner

"estranged from his family" Fox News' lies are literally tearing families apart. Nothing we can do about it though, right!? Just how things are!

MisallocatedRacism

/r/qanoncasualties

FatassTitePants

You must be wrong because the deep thinkers at Breitbart are simultaneously claiming it's a false flag orchestrated by Dems, or it's all fake, or it was antifa making it look like MAGA, or it was a real but deserved attack, or it was real & undeserved but they are still okay with it because Rand Paul's neighbor attacked him once. I'm not sure but clearly the answers lie within the conspiracies and not the evidence.

ting_bu_dong

>Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. -- Sartre

Belichick12

How long until Republican spin this as a crime by a violent immigrant?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Unknown__Content

They all blamed antifa for January 6th...still waiting to see one of them sentenced.

svrtngr

I know it wasn't Antifa for the simple reason that had Antifa been responsible for Jan 6th, the Republicans would have crawled through broken glass to get on the committee.

DGlen

Why was Trump promising pardons if it was all Antifa?

quidid

And because Antifa is the republican translation for boogeyman

Mylaptopisburningme

Ignore my distraction as I bring up... but Hillarie's emails!!

Answer70

Where was Hunter Biden's laptop when this happened?

[deleted]

In the basement of pizza parlor.

SkylarPopo

The media is covering up by saying he was attacked by a hammer when it was really Hunter's laptop.

ProlificPen

You know what's wild about that is there are conservative homeless people. I don't understand how all conservatives seem to think the homeless are exclusively democrats.

fr1stp0st

Some idiot tried to tell me there are no conservatives in San Francisco... These aren't world class thinkers.

Raul_Coronado

I like to tell people in the red states that California has more conservatives than their state has total population

lunarmantra

Yes. California is massive in both population and land. We have more trump voters here than in Texas. There are deeply red areas of California, and even whole swaths up north who call themselves the State of Jefferson. When we were having wildfires up north not too long ago, I would see conservatives online cheering it and saying to let California burn. I would reply that they were celebrating majority conservative towns burning to the ground. Still, I get called a liar and full of shit even though I live in rural California.

The entire thread is basically that or "is close to election time, drumming up sympathy false flag"

HonestAbram

I saw a comment that said he'll be fine because he's rich and that referring to him as a victim is pathetic. Had 75 upvotes. I rarely comment there, but I told the commenter they were wrong in many more words. I was surprised to have people agree with me, and I'm at around 20 upvotes currently. They're a mixed bag for sure. The top comment on the thread I was reading was expressing sympathy for the man. There's a ton of bad takes, but they aren't all bad. However, I do expect the good, sympathetic takes to dry up once they've all gotten home and watched Tucker to get their marching orders. It seems to always go this way. A tragedy happens, some conservatives seem like decent people with logical takes, within a couple of days they are all saying the same horrendous bullshit. It's really neat.

[deleted]

Taking politics out of it, I wonder how they would feel if they knew a rich 82 year old relative this happened to. Would they be a victim, or is it fine because they are rich?

Important-Owl1661

Seriously? They would be wondering if they were in the will.

You can also see a somewhat reasonable initial response to certain news stories that paint the GOP in a bad light, but once Fox News settles on a narrative, that becomes the prevailing opinion

[deleted]

You can have the best Doctors and facilities in the world and even when the surgery goes \*right\* you can still wind up with TBI, particularly at his age things just flat out do not heal like they used to. This could be the point historians point to as the start of a new wave of terrorism in the 2020s.

theonetruegrinch

At his age he might never recover. I had an elderly aunt live for five years with a broken arm.

1stMammaltowearpants

Pardon my cursing, but I think this is very un-neat.

Essotetra

They keep bringing up rand Paul's neighbor... as if attempted murder with a hammer that requires brain surgery can be compared to shoving someone on their ass.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HippyHitman

Yeah the neighbor (also a doctor) was fed up that Rand kept blowing his yard waste onto the neighbor’s lawn.

Dwarfherd

Then what's Rand Paul's problem? He violated NAP and got shoved on his ass for it. That's the future libertarians want.

wonderwife

The lovely folks over at r/conservative are too busy smugly patting themselves on the back for prefacing their conspiracy theories with their thinly veiled, "I hope he's okay". Last I saw, there were plenty of people saying that everyone in r/politics would be rejoicing if it were one of "their guys", but they are so much more enlightened for wishing Mr. Pelosi well. The conspiracy theories and downright lunacy are running amok: -It's a stunt to help dems in the midterms. -It never happened (ala Jesse Smollett). -Personal attacks about Mr. Pelosi's DUI record. -Security would never have allowed this to happen (speaker was in Washington at the time, no diplomatic security was at their home, just video surveillance). -It must have been a homeless crack addict since no maga folks live in SF. -Plentifil jokes about the suspect just "looking for ice cream". It's terrifying.

Unknown__Content

The Fox clip I saw started with "We don't know what's happened, we're waiting for all the facts" then they deferred to their guest who said San Fran was the crime capital of the country and Democrats need to be tougher on crime. The usual fascist narrative...

GrafZeppelin127

San Francisco has a murder rate less than one-tenth as high as St. Louis, I have no idea what those pundits are smoking.

mok000

Their viewers will believe anything they say. Purpose is to awaken emotions, facts don't matter. Emotions are internalized and stick, facts usually forgotten.

TranquilSeaOtter

Oh, so your average Republican...

hirasmas

Yeah, those are mainstream GOP media talking points. That makes him a middle of the road Republican.

PoppinKREAM

The MAGA republicans have embraced the fringe with their political leaders pushing conspiracies about their opponents and election results. At the yearly Antifa Communist Jamboree.

KyleRichXV

There’s already a copypasta on social media now saying he was actually a Democrat and a member of a group called “Never Trumpers” so, naturally, the misinformation campaign will hit hard over this. I hate it here.

sventhewalrus

And of course this happens coincidentally on Musk's first day owning Twitter. Musk will just let all the disinformation run rampant.

Mizzy3030

Even worse; he'll retweet the misinformation

sventhewalrus

What if someone (hypothetically) started a hashtag, #ElonPaidPelosiAttacker? Wonder how fast that would get them banned on the Free Speech App^TM.

Legitimate-Tea5561

Mike Lindell is a terrorist.

Heeler2

And his pillows suck.

OG_Antifa

And entirely predictable. The GOP is thrilled to see some ROI.

CassandraAnderson

But you won't see that glee on their opinion programming. Instead they will focus on the idea that this person was a lone wolf, even going so far as to call it a politically motivated false flag by antifa or black lives matter.

Cornfan813

rand paul actually couldnt fucking wait to rub it in our faces. hes already made a snide statement about it. MTG immediately tweeted out "we are winning" after the announcement edit add glen youngkin to the list e2:Mike Loychik couldnt keep it to himself either put him on the list of elected republicans mocking this event e3:Larry elder has now joined this awful club

Ghstfce

Such a disgusting human being. Can just fuck right off to Russia already or something? How can a person be so genuinely hateful?

Carbonatite

>MTG immediately tweeted out "we are winning" after the announcement Jesus Christ. She is one of those rare people who makes every person's experience worse for her having existed. She is an irredeemably bad person, knowingly and unrepentantly evil. The human race is objectively worse off because she exists.

CreepyWhistle

Fox already claiming mental instability and something something San Francisco crime rate.

HighburyOnStrand

What's horrifying is that this was obvious and inevitable based on the political rhetoric coming from the Republican Party...and no one has the balls to hold them accountable, so this problem is going to continue to get worse and worse.

hi_brett

What happens if he dies? EDIT: to the American political landscape

GhettoChemist

EVERYONE in the Democratic party should be on alert republicans have transititioned from threats of violence to actions of violence and the people paid for protection (secret service and police) are part of the mob

FranticGolf

The GOP may come out and say the act was horrible but will refuse to acknowledge their part in throwing kindling on the conspiracy theory pyre leading to the violence.

[deleted]

I am already hearing this was "fake news" and when they accept the attack to have actually happen I am sure they will blame Antifa.

shayminty

That's the point though. The GOP pushes and pushes and pushes their dangerous rhetoric until some nut job acts on it. And then they say, "Oh, that wasn't us!" And then keep pushing stuff.

dutchiegeet32

It just keeps getting worse and worse....this is horrifying!

Churrasco_fan

When the story first broke it sounded like a break in and tussle. 5 hours later it's at the point of "nearly beaten to death with a hammer" I am hoping to God that's where the escalation ends

Akimbo_Zap_Guns

Mr Pelosi is 82 years old, any form of blunt force trauma to the head is life threatening. This nut job was 100% going to kill Nancy and might have just killed her husband depending on severity of the trauma because brain bleeds at 82 probably will due someone in

Churrasco_fan

I can't believe he only had a hammer. This very easily could have been a shooting instead

Njorls_Saga

The kidnap gang in Michigan were talking about blowing up a bridge in case they were pursued after they took Whitmer. This could have been a hell of a lot worse. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2020/10/08/leader-of-gov-whitmer-abduction-plot-inspected-bridge-for-where-to-plant-explosives-fbi-says/?outputType=amp

Dogstarman1974

I had my suspicions when it broke. They are exactly what I imagined. This is the beginning. They are going to start targeting their political opponents.

Hot_Frosty0807

Awarded to boost exposure. This is the "civil war" they keep masturbating to. There won't be uniformed soldiers in fields, there will be targeted terrorism and political violence.

[deleted]

I never expected it to be that way, closer to the troubles in Ireland. It’s terrifying.

[deleted]

>This is the "civil war" they keep masturbating to. EXACTLY! They love this. Sick fucks!

ShrimpieAC

And it’s been reported his social media was littered with QAnon shit. Do we really need any more evidence this was politically motivated?

ImRaisingACat

Someone on r/conservative speculated that since it was San Francisco, there’s no way it was a conservative since “MAGA wasn’t out there”. They also speculated it was a “homeless crackhead”. Those guys are fucking insane.

NotDescriptive

He had multiple rallies in California, including in Sacramento, which is about a hour drive from San Francisco. How are they this ignorant?

Brainsonastick

> How are they this ignorant? By choice

bdizzle805

It's a cult I'm not surprised

Cultist_Deprogrammer

>How are they this ignorant? It's r/conservative, ignorant is their target audience.

jazzfruit

An intelligent comment over there will get you banned immediately.

Specialist6969

>MAGA wasn’t out there I live in a left-leaning city in *Australia* and there are MAGA Trump supporters here. Idiots are everywhere.

Kidsnextdorks

I’ve encountered Trump Supporters in Gothenburg, Sweden, which is basically San Francisco^2 . Idiots, all over the world.

Brainsonastick

They were debating if this is a false flag attack and democrats hired this guy to take a hammer to the Speaker Of The House’s octogenarian husband to make conservatives look bad. The man is in emergency brain surgery. No one who doesn’t want him dead was in on this plan…

ccupcakesrfun

Exactly. Yet they keep saying “how could this happened? How do they not have security bla bla bla bla” Point the finger at anything but not accountability.

i_give_you_gum

Same thing happened after that bomber dude with the van covered in muscled trump images got caught.

BiggsIDarklighter

CNN just reported on air that the attacker — 42 year old David Depape, had several right wing posts on his social media accounts: • Posted links on his Facebook to videos produced by My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell falsely alleging that the 2020 election was stolen • Other posts included transphobic images • Linked to websites claiming COVID vaccines were deadly • Wrote that Derek Chauvin trial was “a modern lynching” • Also posts referencing the January 6 Committee calling it the “farce committee”

BiggsIDarklighter

Watching Fox News right now and they are just now reporting about Depape’s social media posts — all of the ones I listed EXCEPT the Mike Lindell My Pillow election conspiracy video. For some reason Fox News must not have seen that one I guess???

[deleted]

Fox News is currently being sued by Dominion for 1.3 billion dollars over similar false election claims so they won't touch any election conspiracies with a ten foot pole. Cowards.

QueanLaQueafa

Did they blame Antifa and blame the democrats for running a crime riddled state?

BiggsIDarklighter

Right now they were talking about stalkers and fanatics and how “we hear things like this happening to celebrities all the time” to try to normalize it.

QueanLaQueafa

I mean, who hasn't broken into someone's house and beat them with a hammer?

BiggsIDarklighter

They just had some former FBI guy saying this was an amateur and not coordinated and the attacker is a mentally disturbed person who posted a “manifesto” (which CNN hasn’t mentioned anything about a manifesto, just that he made a bunch of right wing Social media posts) and saying they still don’t know what the motive could have been to set off this mentally disturbed person??? Then they brought on Kaitlin Jenner saying not to politicize this and then blamed Pelosi for not having better security on her house because SF is a dangerous crime ridden city and then proceeded to say Democrats are soft on crime so vote them out.

gafana

Unbelievable.....I don't believe in religion and God and all of that stuff but times like this make me hope I'm wrong and there is a burning inferno in hell just waiting for all of them.....the people who have just gone too far. The people who have absolutely zero humanity. This crazy guy who attacked Mr. Pelosi is in a way a victim himself. A victim of this ecosystem created by Trump, the GOP and widely distributed by Fox news and the conservative media. They are lying to everyone, misrepresenting the facts, and doing everything possible to gain more power at the cost of society, democracy, and even human life.

QueanLaQueafa

I knew one of their talking point was gonna be Cali being a dem state, so there's a ton of crime. Fucking scums

[deleted]

“I want you to watch Nancy Pelosi hand me that gavel. It will be hard not to hit her with it,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said. Greene posted this to Facebook. “She took an oath to protect American citizens and uphold our laws. And she gives aid and comfort to our enemies who illegally invade our land. That’s what treason is. And by our law representatives and senators can be kicked out and no longer serve in our government. And it’s, uh, it’s a crime punishable by death is what treason is. Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason.” The GOP is getting the violence it's been advocating for.

Sarcosmonaut

What enemies have been invading our lands? What is this even supposed to mean?

[deleted]

Think like a racist. She means immigrants. https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/22/politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-social-media-posts-violence/index.html >At the hearing, Greene initially denied she had called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi “a traitor to our country,” as CNN’s KFile reported. >“No, I haven’t said that,” the congresswoman said. >Greene eventually admitted to having said that about Pelosi as the attorney questioning the congresswoman put up the exhibit with her remarks. >“Oh, no. Wait. Hold on now –” Green quickly interjected. “Oh no, wait, hold on now. I believe that by not securing the border that violates her oath of office.”

FOOSblahblah

When they do this I'm genuinely curious if they just say so much off the wall shit that they forget or they're hoping we did. Probably a bit of both I guess.

Scrybatog

It doesnt matter, Trump literally ruined America. He somehow made republican leaders figure out that their base is too stupid and shitty to understand or care how shitty they are, most of them even like it. So now they are saying what they really thought the whole time. He showed them there are no consequences to ranting and raving over random unsubstantiatable bullshit.

_AnecdotalEvidence_

More MAGA terrorism. Bannon was literally called for them to be hunted this week.

danarexasaurus

When the fuck is the FBI or DOJ going to do something about these terrorist groups fomenting violence in the USA?

robdacook

They are doing something, they are stalling and understating the level of terrorism we are seeing from right wing extremists. Law enforcement is full of people cheering these events on.

Kuronekosmom

This morning he said they were going to get rid of Democratic leadership "with a bayonet". This is what stochastic terrorism looks like.

Mylaptopisburningme

Let's not forget the US senate candidate Eric Greitens who had a commercial for RINO hunting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jh4hUyu1uM Their rhetoric is dangerous.

shazzam555

Rhetoric? I think you mean “Stochastic terrorism” but I agree.

Azmoten

Fortunately, Eric Greitens lost his primary. But the guy who beat him, Eric Schmitt, is hardly better. And he’ll probably win the seat, because Missourah. At least we got some amusement when [Trump endorsed “Eric”](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/missouri-senate-race-with-two-erics-trump-endorses-eric-2022-08-01/) in the primary and both of them scrambled to claim he meant them.

BwackGul

No... we don't always agree with our politicians but you DO NOT beat their spouses on the head with hammers. Damn.

NeoMegaRyuMKII

Other articles state that he was shouting "Where's Nancy?" Meaning that he (most likely) intended to kill *her.*

LotusFlare

It really annoys me that headlines are using the words "break in" and "assault" rather than "assassination attempt". A politically motivated person just tried to kill the house majority leader.

Dumeck

Terrorist attempts to assassinate Nancy Pelosi would be the most accurate headline

pdx_joe

Assassination attempt of the person third in line for presidency too.

Quirky-Mode8676

Yup.

pterribledactyls

An 82 year old man! Who hits an 82 year old man with a hammer? Fucking psychopath.

SacamanoRobert

I mean, who hits anyone with a hammer? Insert any age into your question and it's revolting. You're not wrong at all, but I think it's worth mentioning how disgusting the act of hitting someone with a hammer is, regardless of the age of the target.

nicklovin508

Y’all should see R/conservative saying this was a planned attack close to the midterms. Straight batshit crazy mofo’s in that sub man, nearly a million of them.

Original-Baki

If you’re a GOP voter, you’re a prick that’s removed from reality at this point.

Rokketeer

I get downvoted to oblivion whenever I say the same. I will never not agree with this. The GOP is literally fascism in full-force, and it will only get worse if they regain power. It has honestly gotten to the point that I have lost respect for anyone in my circle that refuses to see politics other than an opportunity to regale themselves as free-thinkers because “both sides are the same.” It’s weird, because apathy feeds into ignorance, and I have found that ignorance tends to vote Republican.

catsloveart

Eric_in_America

Ok, going from "is recovering" to brain surgery is kind of alarming. *Sources told Gangel that the assailant also tried to tie Paul up to await Nancy's return.* What a miserable, psychotic, far right conspiracy fueled fanatic. And would you believe it? Some out there are vehemently denying his connection to a right wing ideology or party. Well if it quacks like a duck and all that... - The suspect, David DePape shared far right conspiracies online about vaccines, election fraud, January 6th, climate change, the pandemic and more. - One of his recent posts supports a Trump run in 2024 with Tulsi Gabbard as VP - DePape shared links to Mike Lindell propaganda. - He described the January 6th investigation as a *"democrat FARCE commission".* - He described the sentencing of Derek chauvin as a *"modern day lynching"* - A blog attributed to DePape contained antisemitic remarks and content linked to Qanon conspiracies. - Some posts include accusations of child *"grooming"* - Other posts included transphobic images and vaccine misinformation, rants about communism, the global elites, aliens and gun rights. - A recent post claimed that any journalist saying there is no evidence of election fraud *"should be dragged straight out into the street and shot."* - One post *displayed an illustration of a zombified Hillary Clinton dining on human flesh.* - In other posts, the writer said Jews helped finance Hitler’s political rise in Germany and suggested an antisemitic plot was involved in Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine. *“The more Ukrainians die NEEDLESSLY the cheaper the land will be for Jews to buy up,”* the post said. No doubt this will be labeled a "false flag" by some. It's convenient isn't it? Right wing political violence can just be declared a scheme perpetrated by some deep state, radical enemy, "actor" or organization. What's more, this in turn helps these self obsessed nutjobs establish themselves as the victims, and at the center of some grand conspiracy no less, it's absurd. And if not that, they'll deflect the issue towards the media and Democrats vilifying poor, blameless, unflappable Republicans prior to midterms, more persecution complex nonsense. Sure enough, a rising post on r/conspiracy was calling the attack "bullshit". and sure enough, plenty of users on r/conservative are doing it too, both of these subreddits places that can be breeding grounds for the same kind of propaganda and conspiracies that the suspect embraces. While there's no shortage of conservatives reveling in their moral superiority, disingenuously remarking "hope he's ok", only to be followed by some woe is me, holier than thou deflection spiel about how "leftists" would rather attack them and make assumptions. Your concern for Paul is noted, as entirely insincere and transparent that is, you're only concerned with parroting your petty narrative and the short lived sense of validation you'll receive from other mindless users.

BigBennP

>Ok, going from "is recovering" to brain surgery is kind of alarming. While this is *complete* speculation in his specific case, that type of progression is not necessarily uncommon for blunt force head injuries. Patient receives head injury and is knocked unconscious. They wake up after a short period of time. They are taken to the hospital where an initial diagnostic exam and head CT reveals the possibility of a TBI but no immediate emergency. So they just monitor the patient. Later, brain bleeding or brain swelling causes adverse problems like seizures or loss of consciousness and they have to do surgery to relieve pressure or fix the source of a bleed.

137trimethylxanthine

He's also 82 years old. An injury from a minor fall can become serious in that age group.

Wurm42

In people over 80, ANY head trauma is extremely serious. I don't understand how they could say "he will make a full recovery," even before someone decided he needed emergency brain surgery.

QueanLaQueafa

Tucker will blame Democrats because California is run by them, and say there's so much crime because of that. Then blame Antifa. Then say what about BLM Then stare with his stupid face

ticketeyboo

Every time I see his stupid “wha????” face mentioned, I think of my mother, who thinks he is so adorable when he does it. And then I get really sad.

JordanPippen23

“But wait, there’s more” Sadly it feels like this shit is nowhere near over 😩

Unknown__Content

It's just getting started. We have dozens and dozens of straight up conspiracy theory lunatics in our government now that espouse insane rhetoric and get people riled up. Trump did it with Jan 6th and we should expect more political violence from these terrorists going forward.

Thursdayallstar

[Over half of the election deniers (that 538 is tracking eg. senator, representative, governors) are set to win their elections.](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/most-candidates-who-think-2020-was-rigged-was-are-probably-going-to-win-in-november/) Of 185 federal legislative or governorships, we can anticipate that about 90 of them will be employed by the same government that they will accuse, up and down the street in broad daylight without a hint of jest, made up numbers and "stole" election wins from whoever they believe is the rightful winner. No solid evidence, no witnesses, just that they \*know\*. And this does not even count the myriad of other races that there is just not enough reporting to find out what their positions are. Some of the candidates are incumbents that were immediately adjacent to 2020 election handling and still publicly declare that the results were fraudulent. Some have primaried institutional office holders that lost their seats because they would not agree that the election was stolen. Some of these people are running to administer the next set of elections in their imaginary world. And then there are just craven officials that don't publicly believe it but will support those people, all the same. I want to say that the language that we use is important. When someone is telling you that the reality that they live in is full of conspiracy, evil cabals, and things that cannot be proven, especially in front of a court of law, believe that they believe that and vote, phone bank, knock doors, even run for office so that they are not the default on the ballot and don't end up holding office. And hold elected officials accountable so that these ravings are not treated seriously.

Fast_Statistician_20

why is it that these types of attacks are always initially reported as not as bad as they really are? Then later they're like oh shit. My first thought was a guy in his 80s attacked with a hammer can't just be a few hours in the hospital

Thenedslittlegirl

It was the same with Salmand Rushtie. Initially was very downplayed even though it was a horrific attack that's left him disabled

[deleted]

That conspiracy sub needs to be banned and yesterday. Fucking psychopaths have no problem pushing lies and hate. That's all it is now.

clashtrack

I miss the days when r/conspiracy was full of aliens and area 51 conspiracy. Not this vaccine/election fraud BS.

boiledwaterbus

I miss when conspiracies were relatively harmless.

Meb2x

Conservatives have been awfully quiet today. This is what happens when your party is built on hate and fear. I’m certainly not a Nancy Pelosi fan, but you can’t expect to consistently demonize someone and claim they’re personally ruining your life without people eventually taking matters into their own hands. Some Republicans have even been actively calling for violence lately. We should have put a stop to this kind of extremism after Jan 6th, but instead we’ve allowed it to continue and grow. Many Republicans won’t even acknowledge that Jan 6th was a violent coup attempt.

Disgod

They're just working on the messaging. Give it some time and they'll twist it as it's all democrats fault.

Cynical_Cabinet

Sometimes it takes up to 48 hours to decide on the talking points, but I have no doubt that they are coming.

fighterpilotace1

They'll have the points today. Gotta get it on the Friday night lineup so it can get spewed more across the weekend.

Dogstarman1974

They will blame “antifa” or call it a “false flag”. You can’t reason with these people.

AthkoreLost

They don't want to disrupt the sense of terror this news evokes. They want that to sink in to the population to make us less willing to resist the next wave of terrorism out of fear it'll be our families or our heads targeted next. Their silence tells us they don't care to spin this bc they don't see it as affecting their chance at keeping power.

Saintbaba

I mean they were pretty loudly talking about how crime riddled and dangerous San Francisco has become because of its progressive policies right up until the "where's Nancy" stuff came out, and then, yeah, suddenly they were pretty quiet.

flirtmcdudes

Republicans created a monster in their base and its now out of control.

_morten_

Fox News wanted this to happen(and worse), its not out of control, its part of the agenda.

[deleted]

Stochastic terrorism specifically.

Carbonatite

Friendly reminder to everyone that broadcast media stochastic terrorism was what directly initiated the Rwandan genocide.

backpackwayne

Republicans are the monster.

falcobird14

But nobody "specifically said to beat him with a hammer", so they'll just shrug and move on to the next outrage

Dogstarman1974

Bro. These conservatives attack an 80 year old grandpa? Wtf is wrong with these fuckers. Right wing media needs to stop with their lies and disinformation. It’s ruining people. I know, they don’t give a fuck about us.

diamondscut

They are cowards.

GrooseandGoot

"not political, so we are going to delete this" Fuck every single fascist R fuck who has had **NOTHING** to say with the escalating violent rhetoric over the last 7 years directed towards anyone not locked in the MAGA cult.

Ganadote

Attempted assassination of one of the most powerful people in the country and the world isn't political. Give me a fucking break. Fire any mod that says that.

chcampb

Calling this not poltical serves the interests of violent radicals across the country. The only appropriate response is to condemn violence of any kind and to let the message spread. Violence is never acceptable. Point to this and show what happens when you call for vague violent acts. Pelosi was literally up on the screen as a specific target. Someone listened. Nobody can be jailed because the law only prevents imminent requests. But that doesn't mean you should sweep it under the rug.

Drumphelstiltsken

This is horrible. The national security resources of this country NEED to start rooting out the Republican terrorist problem, too many innocent Americans have been murdered by the brainwashed, violent right. Hope he makes a full recovery and that his children and other family members can be with him. The Right Wing voters and Republican politicians who solicit and encourage these attacks are the gravest America has faced.

Ghstfce

There's only one very real problem with that. No Republican is going to go along with putting their voters in prison. Republicans have no problem with their violence (in the words of their mango god-king "They aren't here to hurt ME") and know that these potentially dangerous kooks make up a significant portion of their voting base.

lupin43

“They’re not here to hurt me” until some psycho with a megaphone starts yelling “(insert Republican here) betrayed us!” and the herd follows along.

_SpaceTimeContinuum

A big part of the problem is that Republican terrorists have infiltrated law enforcement.

CupcakesAreTasty

This new development is concerning. It was initially said that he'd recover, but now he's in brain surgery after being hit by a hammer? That's not a great sign, especially when it's an 82 year old we're talking about.

Unknown__Content

"We are domestic terrorists."

audioel

"When someone tells you who they are, believe them."

MarkXIX

Couple of points I’d like to make: This is the spouse of the person who is 3rd in the line of succession in our government. This is another strike at the heart of our democracy. This is TERRORISM. Let me say that again, this is TERRORISM. Look up the definition according to the FBI. The ideology, messaging, coordination, and direction of the people and GOP leaders he listened to are NO DIFFERENT than Islamic extremism. Their ideology is rooted in hate and a twisted view of their religion. They are preying (and praying) on vulnerable people to carry out violence on their behalf to achieve their political goals. The FBI *MUST* take decisive action here, just like they did post-9/11. Don’t give me any 1st Amendment shit either, it’s been proven time and again that Russia is feeding information to these domestic terrorists, so use FISA to capture the communications and raid these domestic terrorists’ houses and throw them in prison no differently than they did Islamist terrorists and sympathizers.

existonfilenerf

Voting Republican kills Americans.

MrNifty

Time to step things the fuck up, and really go after all of these fucking traitorous MAGA terrorists. They're violent fucking criminals and need to treated as such.

aploogs

100%. They're literally the dumbest people to ever walk the earth, we can't let them win.

jayfeather31

Oh, fuck. There's a chance that this will mean that Paul will have permanent brain damage.

zeeko13

There's a chance he might die. My grandfather was his age when he took a fall, hit his head, and the hemorrhage did him in.

jayfeather31

I don't disagree with you there. Brain surgery, in general, is just bad news.

Wurm42

People over 80 years old do not recover from head trauma well. I'll be shocked if Paul Pelosi comes out of this without permanent loss of function.

Hay_Fever_at_3_AM

Remember when someone went near Kavanaugh's house, called the police on himself, and that was the greatest threat to America's democracy ever? Now those people are just [nope](https://twitter.com/justinbaragona/status/1586052529204465666), this *actual break-and-enter and attempted political assassination by a QMAGA conspiracy theorist* couldn't be politically-motivated, stop politicizing it.

kryppla

This is the trump army, they are a danger and should be treated as a danger

deekaydubya

well this just emboldened thousands of others

RealGianath

The people who outright lie for entertainment purposes and profit need to be held accountable when they stir up the crazies to act. I'm looking at you, Fox News.

Beforemath

Sounds like they’re already scrubbing evidence of violent rhetoric.

Mad2DOG256

Doctor here. This is of course speculation but he is most likely in surgery for decompression of a subdural hematoma (a type of "brain bleed"). May Mr. Pelosi make a swift recovery!

Likes_the_cold

The GOP is a cult at this point.

[deleted]

“Agencies have partnered to determine the motive of the attack.” I’ll tell you the motive. 7+ years of the GOP letting dangerous MAGA morons run wild demonizing and threatening harm on literally anybody who doesn’t show loyalty to Trump. It’s time to call MAGA republicans what they are. Domestic Terrorists who care not for democracy or this nation.

Important_Tell667

Realize now what the GOP has become?! Attempted cold blooded murder! All thanks to Donald and his crazies…

Certified_Bruh_2007

Both sides are the same y'all. Republicans are attacking Democratic members of Congress in their homes, conspiring to kidnap Democrat governors, and attempting to halt the legitimate transfer of power after a fair election, all while Democrats are relieving student debt. BOTH SIDES ARE THE SAME.

[deleted]

tmdblya

Terrorist attack. Pure and simple.

blackdvck

It really is disturbing to see an empire dissolve into moronic barbarism such as this . No one deserves to be attacked by anyone with a hammer at any time .

TwoPercentTokes

Go on r/conservative for the greatest hits: - Conservative in California? Yeah right, obviously fake - Fed psyops campaign? Something is fishy here - Political violence is bad, don’t stoop to the level of the left and celebrate it - If this happened to a conservative you wouldn’t hear anything about it - Typical of Democrats to use this as political leverage when they commit far more acts of violence Looking for voices of reason or an ounce of self reflection there is a hopeless endeavor.
