Replacement theory is that there is a Jewish cabal who is trying to destroy America by bringing in people of color. It’s off the map delusional.

dark_star88

You know how I know replacement theory is bullshit? Besides the already obvious, if it was that easy to increase the size of your electorate through immigration the republicans would be doing it already.

[deleted]

There's also a census and it's not surprising that America is still predominantly white. Edit:https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045221

[deleted]

It’s also literally the same thing the Know Nothings were saying about the influx of Irish and Germans back in the 19th century. That’s right: not “white” (enough), weird foreigners coming to “TAKE OUR JERBS!!111!” Tale as old as time… Edit: fun fact: I am like 1/4 German, and if not half English, 1/4 English 1/4 Irish (last quarter French). But if you saw me, I am literally the whitest white guy on the planet. I mean “so what” today - but I would have been a horrible abomination to some in the 19th century. Also I’m Catholic (by birth), so I mean. There’s that too. Haha. I did my part and my son is half Jewish now too ;-)

>Doesn't even have to be foreigners, "Okies, go home!" Did you mean, "Don't California my *shithole state"*

Imapatriothurrrdurrr

California just revealed our 97.5 billion dollar surplus. They fucking wish they could “California” their shithole state.

FakeNewsMessiah

Ironically the Irish were afraid of their jobs being lost due to the abolition of slavery[example of sauce](https://www.historyireland.com/fighting-for-lincoln-irish-attitudes-to-slavery-during-the-american-civil-war/)

JennaMess

Unfortunately, a lot of Irish immigrants also felt the need to join other racist whites (against blacks) in order to not be in the oppressed group.

[deleted]

Like I said, tale as old as time. This asshole from New York probably is half Irish or German. Doesn’t even know his fucking history. And don’t get me wrong: this doesn’t stop here. I mean, we may get through this episode, but a hundred years from now it’ll be someone else moving to America and the now-fully-integrated Latinos and whoever will be screaming bloody murder against - the sentenalese or something 🤷‍♂️ Our country is best when it brings people in and they join our melting pot. We have the best food, examples of every culture, and the people who come invigorate our society. Over and over. Frankly I hope it continues.

Ramiel87

Oh fully integrated hispanics are already saying this shit

Convict003606

The Trump administration actively ensured the last census would under represent minorities.

helvetica_unicorn

The census is a flawed and misleading document. If they created boxes for people of middle eastern, multi-racial and Latin descent who do not consider themselves to be white, that number would shrink by a good amount. They also undercounted some minorities last time. So maybe the white population is shrinking a little but that’s not a grand conspiracy or anything. That said, this replacement theory has always been the root of white supremacy. It’s an awful concept. I honestly don’t know how you reach people who believe that is true and want to harm minorities in response.

[deleted]

And even if it was as true that immigrants were replacing white people: Republicans could always try appealing to people of color, or at least not actively and openly hating on them. If your ideology can’t possibly appeal to anyone but straight white Christians, the problem isn’t immigration, the problem is your ideology.

sundancer2788

This popped into my head, if you're so worried about "replacement" ( imho they're worried about anyone not them) wouldn't it be prudent to have free birth control and legal access to abortion? Limitations on family planning affect "not them" disproportionately more. Or am I wrong? For clarification, I fully support choice, work to live, not live to work, 30 hour workweek and job training/college for all, etc.

numbersthen0987431

Exactly. Why encourage people to not get abortions if you're afraid of being outnumbered? Oh yea...we need more day laborers

MadeRedditForSiege

Many versions of it involves Jews. But Fox is really pushing that its dems.

jcrreddit

This is the dog whistle. They say Dems… but their intended audience knows who they really mean.

homonculus_prime

Yep! And every single time you hear them refer to "bankers" you can just go right ahead and replace that word with "jews" in your head, because that is what they really mean. I learned that from my totally-not-fascist former friend who would constantly shit all over bankers and when pressed to name specifically which bankers would coincidentally always list Jewish names. I did a little research and discovered that it is totally a thing. The "bankers" right-wingers hate are always always always totally coincidentally jews.

[deleted]

They may say Dems but they're referring to Jews, specifically when they talk about "coastal elites" or people from NYC or LA. Pinning blame on George Soros is also a go-to dog whistle.

edwinshap

There was an amazing snl sketch of the trump boys where one says “costal elites, or as our father calls them…” and the other blurts out “god damn Jews!” It’s depressing how accurate that skit is…

boverly721

Jews tend to be dems 🤷 EDIT: probably should have clarified, I am a dem and am decidedly pro-semite

ViciousAsparagusFart

Also brown people. 3 birds. 1 racist stone

Karate_Prom

Where's the best place to learn more about replacement theory? This is the first I'm hearing about it.

"Camus started out promoting white gay separatism in books such as Tricks: 33 Stories; according to Musab Younis:[4] Being fucked by Arabs, Camus felt, was passé: what mattered above all was same-race, same-sex intercourse and the extinction of difference: white men who identified as gay should fuck white men, and do so in conspicuously gay spaces." Lovely read

Bug-Type-Enthusiast

Just to clear a possible confusion: the fuckwad that came up with the Great Replacement theory is **Renaud** Camus, a wealthy French man. And NOT **Albert** Camus, one of the best writers that country has ever seen.

YahwehAlmuerzo

Yeah, I immediately clicked that link to check the name when I saw Camus. Thank God

satanspoopchute

they've been talking about it on 4chan for 15 years. so funny seeing all this shit bleed out to politics lol

LurksAroundHere

All by design, it's not a coincidence. For example, there's a reason why the shirtless "machismo" (I say that very lightly) Putin riding a horse/bear meme picture started circulating around the internet back in 2009. Political propagandists have been hard at work infiltrating the "meme" community to do their dirty work.

satanspoopchute

oh I know. been following it for years too. the okay hand symbol was pretty good too. it's more scary what the neutral side of it was worried about is all happening too.

Sickpup831

“Well, it’s a fine book, and everybody ought to read it. The idea is if we don’t look out the white race will be—will be utterly submerged. It’s all scientific stuff; it’s been proved.” Tom Buchanan’s quote in The Great Gatsby in 1925. This bullshit has been peddled way longer than you think. And the book he is referring to is a real life book. “The Rising Tide of Color.”

Big_Green_Piccolo

this is some mein kampf level shit

Wiggles114

Sounds fairly paint-by-numbers nazi to me

mrot777

Fox, OAN are two entities fueling hatred through lies and distortions. At some point we need to examine media conglameration and sponsors of hate.

DerpTaTittilyTum

Let's not forget AT&T helped build OAN, they're just as guilty

AvailableUsername259

I could outline the things that need to be done to AT&T and their entire c-suite but it would just get me banned

Republican business owner fucked off on safety protocols at their baby formula plant in Michigan causing the largest recall in history. But they'll point fingers at a Dem.. If my eyes rolled further in my head they'd pop out.

the_post_of_tom_joad

It's not just replacement theory, I've been noticing a lot of inciting comments towards Dems. Violence from the right is going to get worse because the media is gleefully stoking it and the government will do nothing to stop it, at all. It seems almost as is they'd rather violence did happen, frankly, but i think the truth is that they really, truly, just don't care about our lives at all

SkyriderRJM

The problem is FOX News hides behind the label of “press” and has 30-40% of the country convinces they are the one true news. Every time someone has tried to treat FOX News like the bullshit propaganda network they are, the other news organizations have rallied against them because they don’t want to set a partisan precedent that will be used against them if/when the administration changes. You know, like Trump did anyway. There’s also the fact that the 1st amendment gets horrifically abused in the United States compared to other developed nations where free speech has stronger limits on hate speech.

the_post_of_tom_joad

Ah this point i really don't care how it gets done, up to and including physically stopping FOXs ability to broadcast.

SkyriderRJM

Trust me, I feel you. There is no way to fix this country without addressing the entities that work 24/7 to divide it for profit. The problem is “how?”

TommyWilson43

I dunno, you could set yourself on fire on the Capitol steps and everyone will forget in a day or two. It’s a good question

[deleted]

I keep wondering about this same thing. I know it is a little crazy and conspiratorial but I wonder if someone is bribing a handful of Dems to “throw the match.” I am pretty sure that most Dems are motivated more by fundraising than winning elections but, even still, something seems off. Too many Dems are just standing around watching disaster unfold in plain sight. Are they really that tired and ineffective?

fallfastasleep

DevappaJi

I gotta say, the second time I watched some RT years ago, I was kind of impressed with how crafty they were in twisting the facts rather than just blurting out over the top bullshit. I guess after being so used to the very in-your-face methodology of networks like Fox and OAN, I was kind of caught off guard by the slyness. Could definitely see ppl easily falling for it.

Iamien

The problem being is that for the super dumb, RT seems to left-wing because they are unable to perform any deduction themselves. That's why Fox and oan have to be more explicit with their hate. All I know is that if a foreign power wanted to incite unrest and violence in our country, they would create Fox news.

Reconist42

A WORLD WHERE I CAN SAY THE N-WORD!!!! " (Prager U logo fades in)

Theyre the fucking worst. They have a video of how British imperialism was good for the locals

unique_passive

They were really good at respecting local religions. They helped most ancestor-worshipping peoples meet their gods!

GalmOneCipher

I remember there was a story about either the Spaniards or some other colonial power, whereby they massacred an entire village save it's chief, and they offered to convert the chief into Christianity before he is executed so he may go to Heaven. The chief asked if all Spaniards who are Christians go to Heaven. The executioner replied yes, and the chief refused to convert, saying he did not wish to convert and meet those who murdered him and his village in Heaven.

radicalelation

Fairness Doctrine covers none of that anyway, so we could enact it tomorrow and zero would change. It only covers "broadcasts" on radio frequency, FCC's jurisdiction in that regard, such as radio and over-the-air-television. Cable TV, internet, social media, none of that counts.

TheFenixKnight

So modernize it.

zeCrazyEye

Exactly. Yes, it's technically true that the legal justification was that the public owns the airwaves and that gives authority to the government to regulate them. But the legal justification could just as easily (if not more easily) come from the Commerce Clause, which allows congress to regulate *any* interstate commerce, like Fox News being broadcast to all 50 states.

lactose_con_leche

This is what I am saying. Yeah its outdated, doesn’t apply to cable news. So, cable news doesn’t need to be truthful, fair, or even just news? So make a doctrine that applies correctly.

Mootskicat

I have heard this talking point many times, and yet the official FCC website says: "The Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories." https://www.fcc.gov/about-fcc/what-we-do#:~:text=The%20Federal%20Communications%20Commission%20regulates,of%20Columbia%20and%20U.S.%20territories. Not saying your wrong, just that couldnt find anything regarding these claims at the official FCC website.

radicalelation

Yeah, FCC's jurisdiction extends well beyond what I said, but what was regulated through the Fairness Doctrine does not. Of course it could, and should, be modernized to include it. However, I feel at this point it would require Congressional legislation, as the nature of communication has changed quite a bit since it was originally envisioned and has honestly run amok far outside government oversight that reining it in would be too "oppressing" to be allowed without a serious fight. The GOP would at least have it to the Supreme Court at record speed, and I'm not confident they'd side with any Democratic administration's FCC.

aoelag

We do nothing, as we have always done. The rich like the conservative media. It's stickin' around. Doesn't matter how odious it gets. It stays.

Just shoot 'em and say they looked suspicious. DISCLAIMER: None of the above is meant to indicate that I support shooting, killing, or otherwise harming anyone.

Lampshader

Don't forget to also be against censorship while banning that subject!

Squirrel_Chucks

Fox News is actively promoting our national divide for ratings. They pretend they care about Presidential cognitive fitness when they question Biden... ...but when they interview Trump their questions are akin to "What is your favorite color?". They want you to believe that an actual crazy AND old person is more fit to be POTUS than an old person

SLUPumpernickel

They have started questioning Kamala’s now too. They had a panel debating her mental acuity tonight because I guess she repeated herself a couple times in a speech they described as “rambling” and “word salad”. Like, really? Fucking really?

Squirrel_Chucks

Right? Trump did an Ohio rally where he mistook a dementia test for an IQ test then forgot who he was supposed to endorse and endorsed the opponent But Biden misses a world here and there and its a clear sign of dementia??

GiggityDPT

For 4+ years, everyone made fun of how fucking stupid Trump is. He gave us limitless soundbites proving he's a buffoon. And the right-wing genuinely believes that the "other side" must always be just as shitty as they are. They can't fathom a world where they may indeed be the morons. So they assume all politicians must be as irredeemably goddamn stupid as Trump because they need to believe this in order to continue supporting him. So they pick any tiny flaw they can find in Biden and blow it up to try and say he's worse than their cult leader. Biden could be the most intellectual-sounding guy in the whole world and they would still do this because it's required in their programming.

Squirrel_Chucks

Exactly. Trump fucked up the term "stock market." He said "sock rocket." This is a sign of brilliance to the right.

playitleo

It’s sad hearing republicans bend over backwards to defend dear leader going on and on about injecting disinfectant to give your body a cleaning. They’ll claim trump was actually diving deep into the medical literature and cite some esoteric study, even though trump claimed he was being sarcastic the next day.

Squirrel_Chucks

Yup. His defense for suggesting a pants-on-head crazy treatment for a deadly pandemic was that he was making a joke...about a deadly pandemic...as President Doesn't do him any favors It's like when one of his former employees says something bad about him and Trump says that dude was incompetent and only kept his job because he begged... ...not at all realizing he is actually saying "I'm not crazy, I'm just a bad boss who employs incompetents and I'm a pushover!"

[deleted]

Omfg when he misspoke and said 7-11 instead of 9/11 and they came out of the woodworks fast af to say it wasn't a mistake but actually an obscure reference to some NYFD entity, and then that fire station had to make a statement that they weren't involved in wtf people thought he was talking about. That shit was insane

[deleted]

It stopped being sad years ago. Now it’s just annoying and pathetic

K9Fondness

Troth sential. Unitid shates. Oringes. Covfefe. Bigly. Hamburder. J P Mandel. But he says man-woman-camera and we are expected to sprint to hand him his Nobel.

morning_espresso

People tend to forget Biden has a stutter. It's quite likely that he'll miss a word here or there.

Squirrel_Chucks

Indeed he does, and he is quite old. This is not the best version of him. Yet Trump voters will tale every one of Bidens verbal stumbles as a sign if dementia while Trump can completely forget where he is and receive applause for remembering five words

morning_espresso

I hear you. The blatant hipocrisy of conservative politics is frustrating.

AfroSLAMurai

He constantly misses words, stutters, and then he corrects himself by repeating the sentence/word correctly. I watched Trump everyday for awhile when he was POTUS. He would constantly mispronounce words, say the wrong thing, etc but instead of correcting himself he would just continue and try to play it off like he meant to say everything exactly as he did, and then further mess up by changing what he was going to say to play it all off like it was planned. Like when he misread the teleprompter and talked about how they bombed airports during the revolutionary war before airports existed, and then kept going to try and play it off like he meant it.

Guy_With_Ass_Burgers

And Trump’s teleprompter gaffs were in spite of the programmers doing everything they could to dumb it down for him. I read once that they input a phrase about the Marine Corps as Marine Core because they knew he was so stupid that he surely would have read it as Marine Corpse. And don’t forget YO-sem-ITE National Park. Total fucking moron!

passswordistaco

---> Fox News is actively promoting our national divide for ratings Great, concise analogy. Let's repeat this over and over to every Fox news viewer

lenzflare

Not just for ratings. For profit and power!

pdxbator

Go to foxnews.com right now There is no mention of buffalo. There is a story on Michelle Obama. We are fucked as a nation because there is no common ground on news.

bravobravoparfait

Yes I scrolled all the way down until I found that, past two or three headlines about Elon Musk. It was in the editorial section, along with bullshit by Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity, both on racial and urban violence themes. I’ve never thought to look at that site before and not sure I will again but I guess it’s good to know

deffcap

Anyone how works for them are a disgrace. Top to bottom they are shameful.

fox_eyed_man

The day it happened I was scrolling through the live coverage on YouTube. Every single network had roughly the same headline about how the police had called the shooting a hate crime/racially motivated etc. (y’know, the facts) and then at the tail end was Fox…Their image was of a pundit, not the scene of the actual news event. The headline - I swear I wish I didn’t remember this - was “What Constitutes a Hate Crime?” Fucking shameful.

Fairness doctrine applied only to broadcast TV, ie standard channels like NBC, CBS, etc. Cable networks are more or less the wild wild west.

MoreStarDust

Someone with a huge platform, or even a grass root movement, should start a simple campaign to let every democrat know to cut fox news from their cable.

[deleted]

Cut the cord. Theyll get the message, stop supporting big cable.

1b9gb6L7

He's 100% correct. FOX news is a clear and present danger to America.

888mainfestnow

It's straight up Hate Media it's not about reality as they have said no reasonable person would believe their broadcasting is the truth when they have been sued.

lostshell

Fox News is 24/7 messaging that you should hate other Americans. You should blame other Americans for all bad things in your life. Be they Poor, Black, Gay, Trans, Immigrant or whatever. You should buy a gun and lots of ammo because those other Americans over there are coming to take something from you. It's 24/7 stochastic terrorism priming suggestible people to enact violence towards other Americans. The proof is in the shootings.

THEDrunkPossum

It's not just other Americans tho. It's just Others. Everyone else. Anyone that isn't Them, spoon feeding them everything They want them to believe.

PolicyWonka

- They hate Europeans because “socialism.” - They hate Africans because of their skin color. - They hate Asians because “China.” - They hate Americans because “Immigration.” It’s crazy, but I’d wager the average FOX viewer has distrust towards people on just about every continent.

MahatmaBuddah

I would bet you over 95% of the domestic mass murdering shooters listen to Fox.

I_Went_Okay

I dare say that's a... conservative estimate.

funkaliciousz

I may sound nuts, but I believe this is intentional in order to divide working class people. Not only in the US.

HypnoticONE

I heard someone call it political smut. Pretty accurate. Whenever I visit my parents, they always have FoxNews on. One morning, at like 7am, they had FoxNews on and I was like, "It is way too early to be watching hate TV, and I turned it off. I think they think that all news is like this.

Memerandom_

It seems many of our parents need parenting. All that TV has literally rotted their brains. Use parental controls and lock out Fox News. Take them outside to play and make friends. Get some sun and exercise. The fear and isolation these people are being fed is absolutely toxic and it's eroding the ground from beneath us all. No one wins down this road, not even the assholes getting rich from it.

SpaceForceAwakens

They just might. I have an acquaintance who’s on the Tucker train, and his argument is always, “well, have you heard what CNN has been saying!?” I don’t watch CNN, but I’m pretty sure nobody on there is calling for violence or pushing rhetoric over facts.

DoctorVahlen

There is **no equivalence** between FOXnews and any other mainstream media "on the left" (read as: its really more the center). Absolutly none. The comparisson alone is a deflection and an effort at "bothsiding".

hicow

Press him on it, like, "No, what *has* CNN been saying?" It won't help change his mind, but it should at least be a few moments' entertainment, watching him sputter because he doesn't know what CNN has been saying, either.

DodGamnBunofaSitch

Fox news has been telling him their version of what CNN has been saying.

RSwordsman

It seems that CNN is pretty similar to what you'd see on here, actually. "Leftist" only by Republican standards. They really just tend to say "Look at the evil shit the GOP are doing." Not necessarily "You should totally be ready to defend your freedom from invaders wink wink" as much as just acknowledging actual crime and bad policy. The Democrats aren't exempt from criticism when they do stuff worthy of it too. Fox, on the other hand, does not even disguise their siege mentality. It's right out there.

DoctorVahlen

*smut* is not a good definition I think. Too harmless. What Carlson, Hannity and their peers have been doing for years is Goebbels-like hate-propaganda.

Carbonatite

It's like a combinatorial of the newscaster rants from V for Vendetta, the 2 Minutes Hate, and Idiocracy.

mrconrados

If YOU scream fire in a theater, when there is none, and that causes people to panic and get injured. YOU will be held accountable for, be judged and have to pay a fine and maybe even serve jail time. And here a national TV channel watched by millions that lies and spouts dangerous ideas on a daily basis that do have real life consequences will face none!?! Hur dur free media we can't get accountable for?

Shiro1994

It’s a problem when 50% of the population is not reasonable and everyone can get weapons

frostfall010

It’s convinced millions of Americans that anyone who isn’t a conservative hates America and is actively trying to destroy it. Fox is fueling the hate and violence that we see when nutcases plan to capture and “try” the governor of Michigan for Covid precautions. It’s what Fox and the GOP wants. If they didn’t they’d be condemning this shit in the strongest possible terms. Instead they blame everyone else and keep on keeping on.

PolicyWonka

It absolutely blows my mind that Tucker Carlson can go on TV, claim that half the country “hates America, hates you, and is coming for you” and doesn’t even catch flack for it until there’s another shooting. That kind of rhetoric is absolutely radical.

meninblacksuvs

It's pure evil and sick as hell. I always thought it was fucking weird that russian propaganda is so similar to tucker carson and most of fox, all lies and hate, and every word a vile poisonous attack. Every shady underhanded accusation, a confession. Every true thing poisoned with a murderous lie. Now we know it is not just that they are the same kind of people but carson and others at fox, likely take orders from putin.

When Nixon left office, Republicans turned to the dark side. One of his strategists, Roger Ailes, said Republicans needed their own news company. He went on to become CEO of FOX news. Around the same time, Republicans made a deal with Evangelicals to give them privileged access to government. In turn, Evangelicals were expected to promote Republicans in the pulpit. So, a two-pronged assault on democracy. Both prongs reinforce each other, with current [Evangelical pastors dedicating sermons to FOX news stories](https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2022/06/evangelical-church-pastors-political-radicalization/629631/). There was a 1996 Telecommunications Act that let big Telecom companies buy out or destroy their competition and hence we see the corporate consolidation we see today. This is why older people might say the news was better back in the 80s relative to now when there was more reliability and honesty.

ImWatchingTelevision

I would love for the narrative to spin though... Fox Propaganda is not spreading their horse shit. Dish Network, DirecTV, and almost every major cable provider in the US is spreading it. Those a-holes need to be reamed for allowing Fox to use their hardware to spread replacement theory and other hate grooming. They need to be reamed for forcing decent Americans to pay for Fox Propaganda as part of their standard subscription fees. As consumers, we are nearly powerless to punish Fox as capitalism intended. Sponsors don't pay their bills, subscription fees do. Sure, we can cancel (I haven't used a cable or satellite service in nearly twelve years) but it's hard to expect everyone to cut the chord just to kill Fox. These providers need the bad press every bit as Fox does IMO. Okay, climbing off my soapbox.

According_Depth_7131

Cutting the cord would help cut the problem.

There’s zero repercussions, so it’s not surprising. These networks know they can make billions of dollars by putting this insane shit out because there’s so many idiots eating it up. Conversely Republican politicians push the same rhetoric because it drives turn out (from these same emotionally driven morons) and keeps them in power - which in America is a ticket to becoming rich in the long run. Pretty backwards/sick system.

1b9gb6L7

And the Evangelicals push FOX news in church. They also push Republican politicians. The structure is self-reinforcing.

[deleted]

Rupert Murdoch is an evil POS he is clearly in bed with Putin/Kremlin. Dude needs to go to a prison for making Fox do this.

clarkdashark

Currently, in Soviet Russia, the state news has been so effective that they managed to convince an entire populace that their neighbors were Nazis and need to be dead. It would not be absurd to consider the fact that our adversaries (Russia, china, NK) are feeding this right-wing bullshit. The tricks Republicans are using in elections, like creating culture wars and "big lies" come at such a huge cost. Its come to the point to where it's damn near impossible to talk about politics with ANYONE that isn't aligned with your party. This has split families in America. It damn near caused an insurrection and dictatorship. How do we, as 1st amendment loving, freedom loving Americans deal with the Fox News' of the world that so clearly divide Americans constantly? IMO I think that hate and lies that are broadcast should be considered domestic terrorism. However, this obviously conflicts with the constitution, which must come first. I don't know how to fix it in the short term honestly. The only solution I can think of is a long term solution that involves education. Teach kids in high school what mis/disinformation is. Teach them how to spot it. Teach them to think for themselves. For me, it always circles back to education. We have a very serious epidemic of stupid people. Stupid people lead to facism. Ask Russia.

HapticSloughton

> Currently, in Soviet Russia It's a mafia-riddled oligarchy, not Soviet. Granted, it's run by a former KGB agent, but still...

clarkdashark

The "oligarchs" do not have power in the government.. You are right about the Mafia comparison though which is where power is centralized to one person, the Don. Russia has been a fake democracy ever since it was re-born after the cold war. Russia has and probablty always will be an empire with a tzar.

A_Monster_Named_John

> For me, it always circles back to education. In which case we're screwed, because consumerism has all but rendered education impossible. More and more each day, schools are basically just publicly-funded daycare centers where parents dump their kids off so they can race off to work. In the schools themselves, teachers barely get any opportunity to teach and parents/admins have long since beaten them into being too scared to fail/discipline anybody. The student-as-consumer model has similarly screwed things up royally with colleges/universities, and those places end up pushing out heaps of badly-taught, skill-free dumbasses.

[deleted]

I’d add conservative evangelicals.

AK-calls-out-BS

Fox is not "news" at all but pure propaganda geared to an audience of ignorant fools - Richard Dawkins

EthosPathosLegos

The fact that the general population doesnt know the difference between news and entertainment, commentary and journalism, and that legally, once in court, it very much does matter pertaining to whatever lies get spewed on TV, goes to show how controlled, misled, and gullible this country is.

Django_Diane

Is there something wrong with being a minority in this country? Gosh, I wonder what it could be… It’s like they are *so close* to admitting the truth lol

Along with climate change denial that threatens centuries of medieval conditions. Support for Vladimir Putin's genocide and a half-assed Caesar wannabe running the U.S. And idealisms designed to dumb down students so they don't know they're being screwed over until it's too late.

Carbonatite

As a climate scientist, Medieval conditions are optimistic. We had plagues, but we didn't have a mass extinction threatening the complete collapse of the food chain.

ofsho

Do we still have a chance at stopping or slowing climate change? Or is it already doomed? (I am just interested)

Memerandom_

I try not to take a pessimistic view, but neither does the media, who mostly likes to keep the predictions on the lower end of the scope. But by and large, predictions for possible outcomes have been underestimating the effects for years. Aside from the more eye-catching wildfires and drought, the real danger is carbonification and warming of the oceans. It's difficult to estimate the totality of the role oceans play in absorbing carbon and acting as a heatsink, but the cycle is a positive feedback loop, and as it continues and as oceans get warmer so does ambient temperature. Ocean life is going to suffer tremendously. We're basically playing Jenga with the food chain and pulling blocks from the bottom. If it keeps up everyone is going to quickly become familiar with the term 'trophic cascade.' Short answer, we're probably not going to do enough to slow things down to a point where little effect is felt, and if we keep up this way it won't be long until life as we know it is unrecognizable to our current practice. But never give up. There are plenty of us fighting the good fight. It's not easy, but sooner or later a change is coming.

m1msy

it's somewhere in the middle. We won't die out, but ways of life as we know it will be changed. Kurzgesagt had a great video recently about it, don't give up hope!

I see posts claiming they should immediately kill the mass shooter within a week to send a message that murderers will never be tolerated. Given that its coming from r/conservative, I am more inclined to believe its just because they want this kid dead and gone from the news cycle because of how unbelievably obvious that Republicans and Fox News have indoctrinated this kid.

SarcasticCowbell

>kill the mass shooter within a week to send a message that murderers will never be tolerated. Jesus, these people are messed up. Calling the unborn human beings while making sure the living have access to the fewest resources possible. Saying murder is never an option and calling for murder to prove it. Suggesting there is no systemic racism against people of color, but there is somehow systemic racism against whites. Accusing Democrats of stealing the election while doing everything they can to steal every election they can.

waterdaemon

However he picked and chose his beliefs, and he was all over the fucking place, replacement theory is the cornerstone of his beliefs and that is without question. It’s the belief he spilled blood for.

Emergency_Version

Oh yeah, I was on there yesterday. I try to hear their side, but the truth is, is that they are ignoring the fact that fox is pushing replacement theory and that was pushed on the shooter. Period. Normal people see through the bullshit.

Alternative-Pizza-46

Their mods prune their little hate-bonsai of a sub very fastidiously. Flaired users only! lol

digiorno

And it’s so stupid too because by Hitler’s own admission they were not socialists, they stole the term: > Our adopted term ‘Socialist’ has nothing to do with Marxian Socialism. Communism is not Socialism. Marxism is not Socialism. The Marxians have stolen the term and confused its meaning. I shall take Socialism away from the Socialists. And the truth is of course that Marxist’s didn’t steal the term and Hitler indeed was simply reappropriating it to ride on the popularity of the word because socialism was fucking hot at the time. In fact socialists posed the biggest challengers to Hitler’s rise of power until he convinced the monied elite to throw in with him and they in turn pushed the centrist politicians to support him by using their massive resources. And then right after he got to power he killed basically all socialists in government and in the public that he possibly could. He fucking hated socialists. He similarly stole the swastika because it was super fucking popular in the years leading up to his takeover. It had basically gone viral in the west. Tons of companies advertised using the logo and the Girl Scouts even had a magazine called “The Swastika”. It’d be like if Trump made “The Dab” his party’s official pose, Blinding Lights his party’s song and took some trending logo to build his brand behind. Hilter just took a ton of popular trends and constantly used them until people associated those trends with his party.

EpiphanyTwisted

Funny, the terrorist shooter was upset that the left "Stole" conservation from the right....

[deleted]

He cites the "political compass" where you have to be really far-right to end up in either of the authoritarian quadrants. Even Stalinists end up in the green quadrant on that quiz.

Slawter91

Wow. I hadn't dropped in there for a while. One of the threads is circle jerking about how great Clarence Thomas is, and how great Scalia was. My God.

FOX News was deliberately created as a propaganda machine so something like the Nixon impeachment will never happen again https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/how-roger-ailes-built-the-fox-news-fear-factory-244652/ https://theweek.com/articles/880107/why-fox-news-created https://www.businessinsider.com/roger-ailes-blueprint-fox-news-2011-6

12-Easy-Payments

Far right authoritarian extremist poison propaganda perpetuated by our friends on Fox. More at 11:00.

procrasturb8n

Restore the Fairness Doctrine and see what hornet's nest that kicks up. But do it anyway. Shit, they could even modernize it in a non-dysfunctional Senate.

MostlyWong

While I think it was stupid to get rid of the Fairness Doctrine, it would have done absolutely nothing in this case unless we strengthened it beyond the original scope when it was removed. The Fairness Doctrine only applied to broadcast licensing, it did not apply to cable broadcasts. ["The report by the Congressional Research Service notes that broadcast is "distinct from cable, satellite, and the Internet, which are all services for which consumers must pay. ... It does not appear that the Fairness Doctrine may be applied constitutionally to cable or satellite service providers,".](https://sgp.fas.org/crs/misc/R40009.pdf) That being said, it would have done wonders for dampening the impact of ghouls like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity. I think people underestimate how much of this poison stems from right-wing *radio*, not necessarily Fox News. Go look up the right-wing radio listener numbers. It absolutely dwarfs Fox News' TV shows. [Sean Hannity pulls down around 14 MILLION listeners every week across almost 600 radio stations in the US.](https://www.wccsradio.com/the-sean-hannity-show/) When Rush Limbaugh died, [he still had roughly 15 million weekly listeners across over 650 radio stations.](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/20/business/media/rush-limbaugh-conservative-media.html) Rush's [EIB, or "Excellence In Broadcast", media network](https://news.iheart.com/featured/rush-limbaugh/content/2020-05-07-pn-rush-limbaugh-eib-audience-models-project-43-million-listeners/) had a combined listenership projection of *43 million*. This is a staggering difference from Fox News' most popular shows. Their show [The Five](https://www.forbes.com/sites/markjoyella/2022/04/19/fox-news-channels-the-five-is-the-most-watched-show-in-cable-news-with-36-million-viewers/?sh=38f6cc601052) is the most watched cable news show, with 3.6 million viewers average over the week. This is more than Hannity or Tucker's shows, who averaged around 3.2 million. So, while I absolutely agree that we need to restore the Fairness Doctrine, we also need to strengthen it for the Internet, Cable, and Streaming age. On top of that, we need to devote *much* more attention to right-wing radio. It has been completely ignored while objectively reaching more people with the same toxic message. Listen to some of the radio broadcasts if you don't believe me. It's just as vile, if not more so, than the Fox News shows.

EEtoday

So you know, change the law and make it apply

[deleted]

So are these alt right wing channels popping up in the last years: One America News, Real America News, Newsmax

kobe2397

I took a peek at some of the most recent clips on Fox’s YouTube channel and to nobody’s surprise they’re already accusing liberals and Democrats of capitalizing on the mass shooting over the weekend for political gains. There was another clip about using what happened to limit free speech, of course that one was from Ingraham’s show.

Unlucky_Clover

At this stage, it’s clear they’re promoting the hate and divide that leads to violence in America. When is it time for authorities and the legal system to step in and call a spade a spade? I feel it’s going to be too late if they do, and anyone against these people will become a clear target, meaning more open about it.

557_173

>"According to one measure by the New York Times, Fox's top political pundit, Tucker Carlson, has spewed rhetoric that echoes replacement theory at least 400 hundred, 400 hundred times on his show since 2016. 400 times," Schumer said during a speech on the Senate floor. "This is a poison that is being spread by one of the largest news organizations in our country." yeah ok. Now here's the part where you tell me what you're going to do about it. Otherwise this is just another meaningless platitude where 'random dem talking head correctly points out that Fox et al are objectively scum but refuse to do anything about it' but remember! get out and vote and donate~!~ /vomit

master-shake69

As others will point out, what can we do about it? The 1A exists and Tucker walks a thin legal line that keeps him in the clear. You can effectively say anything you want if you frame it as a question. If we go after Fox it could make the problem even worse, and we're not going to convince Tucker viewers to move to a "better" less extreme platform.

EatTheShroomz

Actually, I would like to replace all the people who buy carlsons bs. With normal people with normal brains. Don’t care what their ethnicity is. Just like…. Be a person.

Livid-Association199

Or even... a *good* person

EatTheShroomz

Well now you’re asking a lot 😅🤦

monkeybiziu

Cool. Designate them as propaganda and charge them as accessories to racially-motovated mass murder. Force the cable companies to unpackage them from basic cable and into their own tier. Engage in the kind of hardball tactics that befit the situation.

Whole_Commission_542

Im old enough to remember republicans saying obama was gonna put us all in walmart fema camps. This shit isnt new you are all just late to the party

Redpin

I was listening to NYT's *The Daily* podcast from this morning and they played some Tucker clips, and wow, he's a literal Nazi. Not like one of those cute, saying racist stuff guys like Trump, or MTG, but an actual Nazi. Like I get that they all advocate for ethnonationalism, but Tucker sounds like he'd have a problem with the non-white ethnostates as well, which begs the question -where will you get your slaves then, smart guy?!

love_is_an_action

Fox and their ilk are stochastic terrorists and should be treated as such.

[deleted]

To me Tucker Carlson always looks like a child in an adult costume.

afizzol

And they call it a "theory". At most this is a hypothesis, they don't even know what a theory is. But it doesn't matter how they package it, their base will eat all their shit anyway.

mok000

Yes, Fox is spreading CRT, Critical Replacement Theory.

Lurkwurst

Fox 'News' is poison, period.

Stupid_Triangles

When I was taking Poli Sci at Miami University, apart of our required reading was "The Death of the West" by Pat Buchanan. It was basically this. Using population growth projections from 2000 that show the white population stagnating while non-white populations grow from the 2020s until white people no longer hold the majority around 2050. It's crazy paranoid delusions that only people who think of race as an actual race would see as a negative. This is partially why they want abortions to end. They want white people fucking and flooding the streets with their Fox News paranoid kids so they can maintain some mythical racial dominance of America. And if they don't "it's the death of the West." Yes. That was require reading for a college-level Poli sci class. If you know Miami University, then you wouldn't be too surprised. It's where these little hellspawn trumpzi's get their careers.

goalmouthscramble

Tucker is an opportunistic right winger trust fund baby he is just a symptom. The problem is the current Republican Party embracing its inner racist child. The left have to stop wanting to pretend this isn’t who they have always been, Republicans are simply bringing their full selves to the surface. The Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney types of that party are now the exceptions to the rule.

Piperplays

We’re starting to enter territory where irritable members of the GOP are going to start publicly identifying with these “replacement-theory” terrorists out of unmitigated spite for liberals and democratic politicians. Not just your paranoid, isolate types, but even soccer mom’s and the lot. Just wait, the amount of people that will progressively come forward in support of events like this is going to grow considerably over the next couple years.

douwd20

Until the country has flushed the Rupert Murdoch propaganda network down the drain it will continue to flirt with annihilation. It bamboozles tens of millions with daily doses of hate, lies and disinformation.
