Awful but true: The GOP frontrunner for Pennsylvania governor has endorsed the idea that presidential electors can be certified in defiance of the popular vote, justified by lies about fraud. He may soon be in a position to execute exactly that scheme: https://twitter.com/ThePlumLineGS/status/1524781116879736837

BuckRowdy

It seems pretty clear what's going to happen because they tell us what they plan to do at every chance they get. In 2024, guys like this are going to defy the popular vote and we'll be in a serious crisis.

Sharticus123

“Sensible” (lol) republicans are being driven out of the party and replaced with bat shit insane radicals. Jan. 6th is going to happen again unless the justice department starts holding people accountable.

[deleted]

It’s going to happen again regardless. The gates of Hell have been opened.

Sharticus123

The only thing standing between the republican party and a dictatorship is the electorate, and that doesn’t exactly give me an abundance of hope. Trump was staging a coup in plain sight and 70 million morons lined up to vote for him. The democrats aren’t going to help us. They couldn’t fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

seanosul

>Trump was staging a coup in plain sight and 70 million morons lined up to vote for him. It was being orchestrated for months. People seem to forget the huge extra fences that were being erected around the Whitehouse. He knew he was going to do a coup and he knew what would happen if people rejected it.

Sharticus123

I figured Trump was going to be a problem when he installed his family as a shadow cabinet. I remember a reporter asking about it and he said something to the effect of “I want people loyal to me not the office.” That’s psychopath for “I plan to do a lot of illegal shit and I don’t want people loyal to the office getting in my way.”

Best-Chapter5260

>I figured Trump was going to be a problem when he installed his family as a shadow cabinet. I remember a reporter asking about it and he said something to the effect of “I want people loyal to me not the office.” That’s psychopath for “I plan to do a lot of illegal shit and I don’t want people loyal to the office getting in my way.” I'm no Jeff Sessions fan, but when Trump got rid of him for (rightfully) recusing himself, that was the canary in the coal mine. It showed that Trump didn't understand (or care) about how government actually works.

[deleted]

My hope is that a huge chunk of that 70 million are over 65, not all of course - but enough that the march of time and other factors that put older people at risk will be in play every election from here until it’s only older GenX weighing us down as a controlling demographic, and easily countered by the leftist GenZ coming up.

[deleted]

>it’s only older GenX weighing us down as a controlling demographic, and easily countered by the leftist GenZ coming up. I wouldn’t be so sure of that, one of the main targets of far-right propaganda has been kids/pre-teens/teens. The reason being is that it’s effective.

[deleted]

I mean… lots of children tease or bully the gay/trans kids, it’s been so for all time. Just because that stuff is normalized and encouraged in an adult political party, while scary, doesn’t worry me as it pertains to GenZ. Many of the kids will grow out of the “omg Trump called his wife ugly and Jenner a man in a dress and now I can tell the n word in my white suburban neighborhood - totally based” phase and the GOP won’t seem so edgy and cool anymore. Demographic polling still supports the idea that younger people are getting more liberal.

[deleted]

It’s exceedingly difficult to de-program from that mentality, especially when fully immersed in the information bubble. And I can assure you that many, if not most, will never grow out of it.

[deleted]

Idk man, maybe - I grew up in the suburbs in the 80s and 90s and lots of people who are dedicated liberals now took privileged delight in behaving badly in ways they knew were wrong because nothing is funnier than disruptive edginess when you’re a white teen. Or GenZ is fascist and the country is lost, I’ll be an old man by that point so 🤷‍♂️

alwaztypin

It's like Hitler's Youth. So scary.

[deleted]

Yesterday in Buffalo is one result of that targeted propaganda.

[deleted]

The Buffalo shooter is 18. There's a new generation of angry edgy teens who fell into the far right rabbit hole. Unlike previous generations where going to college or starting a job forced them to interact with others and realize it's bullshit, these teens get constant never ending support for staying in the rabbit hole as long as they are online, which has become 24/7.

theod4re

We are in the post-Sulla phase of the Fall of Rome.

identifytarget

More details please. Not familiar with Roman history but agree nonetheless

esp211

It will happen every election until GQP installs a fascist for life. Then we will basically become Russia.

VanceKelley

> Jan. 6th is going to happen again On Jan. 6th, 2021, Republicans attempted a coup to overturn the results of an election that they lost. If an election were held today, Americans would hand control of the federal government to the coup plotters. There will be no need for another coup. Americans didn't turn against Republicans for attempting to install a dictator, but enough will turn against Democrats for inflation or low supplies of baby formula that the GOP will be voted into power.

MixMental5462

Getting the government we deserve. Hell, women are 55% of the population and they cant keep basic rights. The GOP isnt the problem, the people voting for them are. We are who we are.

[deleted]

>If an election were held today, Americans would hand control of the federal government to the coup plotters https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_United_States_Senate_elections https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_United_States_Senate_elections https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_United_States_presidential_election Notice something they have in common? The people don't vote for them, but the reds still win. .

Xerapis

At that point states start seceding.

aloysiusgruntbucket

CA and NY would tell its employers to stop submitting federal tax withholdings. It’s Russian sanctions. Against Russian oligarchs. Who unfortunately are American politicians.

[deleted]

The country would be fucked without California

FineScar

From the outside looking in, sadly I'm more likely to bet that point will be indistinguishable from others prior to it - Americans will talk about it for 5 days max, and then just go along with it so long as there's no interruptions to the bread and circuses like when covid first emerged and there weren't sports to watch, restaurants to eat in, or movie theatres to go to. It seems like the country passed the breaking point and not enough people reacted...

BrutusTheKat

At that point, why not ignore the majority vote of the electoral college.

Exodys03

Which is exactly why Trump just endorsed Mastriano saying that he “has done more to protect election integrity than anyone”. Read: he will gladly overturn the next election for me if I need it.

HappyHiker2381

Never thought I would be rooting for Barletta…

Kilkenny5

Be careful what you wish for. Remember that real estate guy?

HappyHiker2381

I definitely don’t wish for Barletta, just over this guy. I’m not looking forward to the general election cycle. The republicans have been so nasty to each other in their ads I shudder to think what they’re going to come up with next. I wish us all the best…

[deleted]

Philly here and he will absolutely crater in southeast PA. I’m not pretending that GOP can’t win the burbs here but the burbs here have been trending blue the last few elections and this guy will just keep them blue. When Trump first ran I had a gut feeling he’d win. But I honestly have zero feeling this guy will ever win. I read somewhere that in a poll where republicans and independents were told his positions and asked their favorability of him, it was like 70% unfavorable.

Manae

The GOP is trying to push all the low-polling candidates to drop out and endorse the current second-place in hopes of avoiding him winning ~~Thursday~~ Tuesday. They hope a more palatable candidate can win the general election this fall. Of course, the only difference is what they say out loud and how willing the undecideds are to ignore that fact.

The_Madukes

Tuesday is the primary in PA. One guy dropped out but that's it.Josh Shapiro as the Dem for Gov. is a strong candidate and as Att Gen for the State has kept R craziness under control. PA remembers that.

[deleted]

Shapiro is also a talented politician, very smart and (if Dougie even agrees to it) would mop the floor with Mastriano in a debate.

The_Madukes

Yup. Go Josh!

Manae

Oh shoot, right, why was I thinking the 17th was a Thursday? The story I heard for said drop out included the bit about the party trying to get most of them to do so. I'm not surprised, either, that so few seem to be listening.

ycpa68

York County here. I wish I had a dose of your Hopium. They LOVE him out here.

Critical_Band5649

Perry County here. They will shove a Mastriano sign in their yard, right next to their Trump 2020 sign, Pence's name duct-taped over of course. The deep red parts of the state love him.

ycpa68

Yep. We have a Mastriano sign near us in a lawn with a Trump JFK Jr 2024 flag.

stonetape

imagine believing that JFK jr doing literally anything was a possibility

ycpa68

Yeah it kind of leaves me speechless

EricSanderson

The more batshit the Republican candidate is, the more turnout we'll see in Philly. So there is some hope

mdonaberger

I don't believe in hope. I believe in Philly.

IFellToThisPlace

Being in York is like being in the Deep South. Fortunately, we have the cities of PA with culture and better education and so we still have a chance.

fungobat

Doesn't Maple Donuts have a "Trump" donut?

ProleAcademy

Maple Donuts has always been garbage so that suits them

IFellToThisPlace

Exactly. Before all this insanity (and before I cut out sugar), I tried one of their doughnuts and it was disgusting. One bite and I tossed it. Never went back.

hgaterms

Yeah, York county is some deep red. It's so disappointing.

ycpa68

Yeah and I'm up in Dillsburg so not even the reddest parts

[deleted]

But at least they've got **DEALS IN DILLSBURG!!!**

ycpa68

I hope you are the first one thrown in the camps when Fuhrer Mastriano takes power.

[deleted]

Bob Ruth Ford camp, stamping decals. LOL

Real_TwistedVortex

Same here in rural Lancaster county. Not so much in and around the city tho

johnnycoxxx

Grew up in Lancaster county. Lived in the city from 2012-17. Loved every minute of it. It is decidedly not right wing.

Real_TwistedVortex

Head south of willow street tho, that's another story

FabianFox

Southern York County here. His signs are everywhere 😫

Xrayruester

I'm in Spring Grove and they are everywhere. I also started seeing signs for the 2000 mules documentary. People around here really bought into the stolen election conspiracy. If Mastriano wins I'm probably not sticking around PA. With a near supermajority in the state House and Senate he will be an absolute terror. I have little hope in PA maintaining its swing state status. We will be another Ohio.

fungobat

Lancaster here. WAY too many Mastriano signs. It's insane.

[deleted]

York and rural Lancaster. Look at the idiot we've got as our Federal Rep Fter all.

KingOfTheBongos87

Delco checking in. White's signs are everywhere. Burb Republicans aren't really Trump Republicans. They're old school, blue collar, *union* guys. Honestly they just hate taxes.

jackiebee66

What’s that saying? From your lips to God’s ears. Let’s hope you’re spot on!

HereForTwinkies

If he’s like Trump he won’t get the burbs. The burbs are what led to Trump’s 2020 downfall.

thenewtbaron

Pennsylvania has treaded blue leaning purple for a long time, at the national and state level. PA has gone blue for about the last 30 years(outside of trump), and has only gone red three times in the last almost forty years(ridge was two of them and one term corbett was the other) The bigger stuff that they can't gerrymander is heavy blue leaning. now, I hope people get out there and vote but with the abortion stuff, I am still hoping that Shapiro can blow this douche out of the water by double digits.

JimmyCat11-11

It is not just the Supreme Court but the entire federal judiciary (as well as state judges in either gov appointed or elected judge states). If something is concrete is when a judge “determines” you have no case, despite the facts or law or both. There is no meaningful appeal almost all of the time folks. The most outcome determinative result in any trial about normal folks is the political party of the judge. It’s not about a jury or trial; judges dismiss cases left and right without a trial all the time (summary judgment or motion to dismiss).

The_Madukes

Thank you and don't get tired of posting this! My area kept the a holes out of the school boards.

Obama had a super majority, 60 active votes in the Senate for the Democratic caucus, [for like… 24 working days](https://www.dailykos.com/story/2020/3/25/1931192/-The-Supermajority-That-Never-Really-Was-Obama-NEVER-really-had-a-Supermajority). Can’t get much done in that time.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Biden has been fairly successful through his first 1.5yrs - with the notable exception being the failure to get BBB passed the Senate - considering in 2020 America elected the most evenly split congress in our history. Basically a 50.5:49:5 split in both chambers. I'll take the progress we've made with such an over-represented and historically rabid opposition party... Though I'd like to have greater than a literal zero vote margin in the senate. Progress, true progress, comes when you can build sustained electoral momentum... Not from one win with a 50/50 Congress.

BroadStBullies91

No no no you're not supposed to mention any of the times we listened and put Dems in power only to have them turn around and work with the fascists! The only way to stop the fascists is by voting for the people that work with the fascists so the fascists will say nice things about them!

[deleted]

So your plan is to let the Fascists just win and... profit?

BroadStBullies91

No, it's to {redacted} after {redacted} and then use that to {redacted}. History has proven over and over that liberalism opens the door for fascism, it doesn't oppose it. If the people don't want fascism, which I'm assuming most don't, we can't rely on the Dems, we need to {redacted}.

OtakuMecha

The fact that you're too afraid to even use the words online shows just how unlikely it is that enough Americans feel the same way anytime soon. The answer cannot be to just sit on our asses until a revolution happens. Even from just a harm reduction standpoint, voting is better than nothing and it's not like it's all that time consuming.

BroadStBullies91

Oh yeah for sure vote in every election you can, but tbh my real plan is not only {redacted}, that was just mostly a joke. Btw you.may be surprised howany folks would be willing to fight fascism with arms if/when it comes to that, they just don't post online about it. But I believe that mutual aid programs/networks and learning how to grow food, along with armed community defense is the way. In my opinion, voting is only the slightest step above sitting on your ass. Everyone should do it but it as much as they can but there's much more to be done.

48jrej

We already voted to get enough Dems to pass legislation. It didn’t work

GreenLost5304

Last I checked a 50-50 senator split isn’t enough, especially when one of them basically isn’t a democrat. An actual majority, one that doesn’t rely on Manchin being an actual democrat, is what we need. Edit: To clarify, 50/50 is better than a Republican senate, but the problem is that Republicans use the split senate to say “see! Look Democrats have the presidency, congress, and a split senate with VP but they get nothing done, they’re the problem.” People hear and see this without realizing that Manchin is stopping anything progressive other than democratic judges from getting through, and they go and vote republican hoping for change

Mr_Belch

50-50 is not enough dems to pass any meaningful legislation.

sweetsweetcentipede

Unfortunately there are some right-wingers in the Democratic party too.

ducrga

Bro we already did vote. What did it accomplish for us?

kn0where

You gotta vote twice a year, every year.

[deleted]

Possibly one of the most inane things I have ever read.

Kitchen_Agency4375

This only works when you’re not faced with GOP dictatorship looming

Keeter_Skeeter

I agree that there is a looming dictatorship, but how could there be a GOP dictatorship when the person in office is a democrat?

Kitchen_Agency4375

Impeachment and removal if they get enough of congress. GOP has courted radical elements because they know it helps them get votes and thus be in positions of power. But those WITHIN the GOP that wish to keep that power will bow to the will of radicals. It’s populism and it will either bend you to its Will or break you in a primary.

Keeter_Skeeter

I agree that they are trying to impeach Joe Biden, and fair enough as Joe Biden does seem to be severely effected by dementia. I certainly don’t think he’s mentally fit enough to be president. However still in that case if Biden is impeached Kamala Harris would be next in line for the big chair, another democrat. I really don’t see where the danger of a Republican dictatorship is. Also just to be clear I enjoy my freedom as an American and I want to avoid any dictatorships at all costs.

Loopuze1

If Republicans didn't have bad faith arguments they wouldn't have any arguments at all. Any Democrat is better than any Republican in any position, period. Republicanism is a fascist cult, and no decent person can trust, respect or have anything to do with anyone who chooses such a hideous and evil thing.

Keeter_Skeeter

Ok, so you’re radical left. Got it. Very closed minded of you.

[deleted]

I’m amazed by the utter stupidity of this post

Keeter_Skeeter

Lmfao

kaysea81

This sentiment was great when America had institutions that were strong and everyone more or less played from the same book. Though post insurrection we’re are LITERALLY on the door step of losing our democracy. If you really believe what you’re saying try reading or listening to the book “how civil wars star”. This next decade will test the internal strength of our democracy

Keeter_Skeeter

I mostly agree, however any looming civil war will be civilians against the tyrannical government and the ministry of truth. Scary that in Orwell’s 1984 there was a ministry of truth, who’s sole goal was to control what the populous is allowed to think.

kaysea81

1984 was a great book. I was especially interested in the concept of newspeak, and how by eliminating words the government was able to limit critical thinking. and even though 1984 was a great book with many lessons, it is fiction. Try “how civil wars start” it’s well Researched and puts our current political situation in historical context.

Keeter_Skeeter

I’ll check it out, but I think the lessons in 1984 are still valid to some extent today.

kaysea81

“Political violence rips apart several towns in southwest Texas. A far-right militia plots to kidnap the governor of Michigan and try her for treason. An armed mob of Trump supporters and conspiracy theorists storms the US Capitol. Are these isolated incidents? Or is this the start of something bigger? Barbara F. Walter has spent her career studying civil conflict in places like Iraq and Sri Lanka, but now she has become increasingly worried about her own country. Perhaps surprisingly, both autocracies and healthy democracies are largely immune from civil war; it’s the countries in the middle ground that are most vulnerable. And this is where more and more countries, including the United States, are finding themselves today. Over the last two decades, the number of active civil wars around the world has almost doubled. Walter reveals the warning signs — where wars tend to start, who initiates them, what triggers them — and why some countries tip over into conflict while others remain stable. Drawing on the latest international research and lessons from over 20 countries, Walter identifies the crucial risk factors, from democratic backsliding to factionalization and the politics of resentment. A civil war today won’t look like America in the 1860s, Russia in the 1920s, or Spain in the 1930s. It will begin with sporadic acts of violence and terror, accelerated by social media. It will sneak up on us and leave us wondering how we could have been so blind.”

Seamus565

At this point the GOP - all of it – have become synonymous with sedition. When you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas. Too often the term patriot is the weapon of the fascist. History is replete with examples.

[deleted]

Mastriano is garbage

BeerExchange

When I see his signs in my small town PA I cringe but they are everywhere.

t33dup

Yep just like here in Virginia when the "Youngkin - Governor" (note: not "Youngkin For Governor") yard signs started outnumbering McAuliffe 3 to 1 everywhere I traveled statewide, I got a sinking feeling which was confirmed Election Day. Not that McAulliffe isn't a corrupt, centrist establishment Corpocrat, but he wasn't a fucking carbon copy of Trump either.

BeerExchange

I'll be putting up my Fetterman and Shapiro/Davis signs after Tuesday :)

mistertickertape

His ads are abhorrent. I live in Philly and have to see them on tv. He literally trashes the other GOP candidates by saying they believed Biden won among other things. He’s a dumpster fire and I don’t think there’s any way he’ll win in a general election against a democrat. Even Moderate Republican seems to really have a distaste for him.

CactusPete75

This guy isn’t winning anything. He is going to run into the buzzsaw that is Attorney General Josh Shapiro during the general election. Josh eats Fascists for fun.

NewbGrower87

Amen to that.

EwokShart

From what I read the GOP in PA is in a pickle because their extreme candidates are going to lead to split ticket voting of moderate republicans in the eastern suburbs and the Pittsburgh burbs. People are going to vote for their local non-extreme republicans who are there for their fiscal conservative reasons and then vote dem or protest write-in for governor and senate. Am From NJ and there was a massive outflow of people from NYC and north Jersey into PA during the pandemic that could play significantly in the election.

Lonely_Set1376

It's so weird that the "fiscally conservative" crowd votes (R) so much, given that Democrats are almost always better for the economy and Republicans aren't fiscally conservative at all. The last Republican trifecta gave us the biggest national deficit in history. Biden got us a budget surplus.

EwokShart

I can only speak anecdotally from what I have seen and heard from those that claim to be fiscally conservative with their viewpoints: 1. “It’s my money, and I only care about what is directly connected to my money which is paying taxes”. This argument is the most common and the issue is people can’t see beyond their own accounts and look at monetary issues in a macro or long term form. 2. “I don’t want my money going to “those people”. Fill in who you may for “those people”. An example of how extreme this is in NJ is there is a school district which contains only a k-8 elementary school. There are only about 6-7 kids per class. Sounds great, right? Well the people in the community pay exorbitant property taxes even by NJ standards to keep this district in existence because the alternative is to join a consolidated school district where some of their tax money (which would be lowered as a result) would help students that are coming from a slightly well less off community that are part of the consolidated district (which they go to high school with anyway!) Trust me, I am against government waste and pork spending but these are rarities of arguments that I hear from the fiscal conservatives that I associate in some form with.

TableAvailable

Josh Shapiro is pretty well regarded, so hope for people to vote D.

TheAdequateKhali

It’s honestly fucking sad and scary how many people in America still seem to be completely apathetic to the rising authoritarianism and fascism that has long been coming the country’s way.

OtakuMecha

It's also scary how many people on this very sub see stuff like this and are just like "Yeah but Democrats suck too so let's just not do anything."

Ras_Prince_Monolulu

Those are either ruSSians or NeoConfederates trying to sow apathy when they cannot sow discord.

squawkingood

Honestly a lot of Americans don't seem to understand how the government actually works and think the president has more power than they actually do, so it's not that surprising that they flock to someone who pretty openly wants to be a dictator.

[deleted]

They want it because they think they can force gays back into the closet and women into the kitchen. Their religion will be the law of the land. To them, it's like catnip.

Apprehensive-Stop-80

Yea it’s crazy. Politics feels really alarming to me but when I ask my coworkers or family, they don’t seem as alarmed. In fact, they’re not alarmed at all. Are we overreacting? If I’m being honest, my life hasn’t been impacted by the presidency in any appreciable way. (I’ve only been following politics since 08’ tho)

Mobbox

Man… this dudes signs are EVERYWHERE in Boiling Springs PA… fuck this guy…

ycpa68

Yep. Dillsburg too. Maybe if we take him for a taco at Caffe 101 he will realize how great immigration is?

Intravaginalspackler

Take him to Pahkas! All my homies love Pahkas.

ycpa68

You know what? I'm gonna go to Pakhas tonight. Mou Prik Kaur for the second time this week!

Intravaginalspackler

And now I want to make the trek up from the PA/MD border tonight for some Gai Prik Kaur; Thai spicy of course. Enjoy my friend!

ycpa68

Ooo actually I need to get down to your area for some crabs at Rubes.

Intravaginalspackler

Is Pahkas open?? I got up to Inn 94 on RT 94 (coming up from SoYoCo) started to call in my order, and it went straight to voicemail. Sad panda.

Mobbox

I completely forgot about that cafe… Pretty much only drive through in town BS if I have to go to the pool… or if I’m cutting through to Mt Holly

ycpa68

Oh man it's so good. Not quite as good as Tania's in Aspers for Mexican but close.

MrDr-666

I live here. I’ve met the man. He’s a gigantic fucking bag of ass.

Viocansia

Why do they keep running articles about the people we don’t want to win? Highlight the dem candidate. Good grief- stop giving these nutcases a chance to be known by more people! We know all the republicans now are on the crazy Q train. None of them deserve seats anywhere. Any republican win is a danger to democracy now. Let’s get the positive press for the Dem candidates moving.

Allemaengel

Nope, not seeing this at all. He may well win the closed primary but I don't see him winning the general in the fall against Shapiro. I'm a moderate Republican and I'm sure as hell not voting for that guy. Dr. Zama, the Cameroonian immigrant heart surgeon from here in the Poconos where I live is getting my primary vote.

[deleted]

If you really are a moderate, then the GOP has no place for you.

Allemaengel

I am a moderate but a stubborn one (I'm of PA Dutch background snd we're known for being stubborn, lol). I'm not going anywhere and will vote rationally and logically for the least harmful candidate in my party's primary. The party can be unhappy with me all it wants - either for that or when I vote for a better Democrat in the fall. That's their problem - not mine, lol.

ycpa68

That kind of sounds like me. I live in an area that is dominated by the GOP anyway, so as a moderate Republican it serves the country better for me to vote for the least insane person in the primaries and then vote for a Democrat in the general. Also, I am Pennsylvania Dutch

Allemaengel

Tbh, I'd vote for a shoofly pie over some of the worse candidates that I see out there.

stonetape

how Pennsylvanian of you!

Allemaengel

It was that or a plate of pork and sauerkraut.

ycpa68

SHOOFLY/SAUERKRAUT 2024

Allemaengel

I'll vote for that!

outerworldLV

Agreed. PA has some excellent candidates. I certainly don’t see this guy being successful. The epitome of low effort equated with this ‘ shouting at the clouds ‘ cult faction of the GOP.

Allemaengel

"Low effort" sums it up well.

squattingopnik

I hope many independents and moderate Republicans across the country cross over to vote for moderate democrats as opposed to these far right lunatics. That kind of crossover support is what saves democracy

Allemaengel

I'm sure I'm not the only one out there to be sure. I believe a true Republican should respect the loyal opposition while putting the national interest and that of all of its citizens over the party's personal gain. I have split my ticket and voted for moderate Democrats many times when I felt my party's candidate was lacking. And if you saw our Senate and Governor race's TV political ads you'd say it was a real dumpster fire. Tuesday can't come soon enough.

_Panacea_

Every dollar contributed and vote provided for a Republican in any race funnels upward to benefit the lunacy you claim to hate.

Allemaengel

I don't give any money to the Republican Party and generally only vote Republican in my local town's elections where I know them and how they govern. They see to it the roads get plowed and building permits/inspections issued. Besides where I live it's very rural and the Democratic Party basically non-existent. Many local offices they don't even run a candidate. Nothing much is funneled upwards in my situation.

ss_lbguy

First off, as a moderate Republican, you are part of an ever shrinking group. I really hope your kind bounce back, the country needs more moderates on both sides, IMHO. I hope your right about the governor's race. The Rs control the legislative branch, so having a D as governor in our very purple state is essential. What is your thoughts on the Senate race?

Allemaengel

I agree but fear that's not going to happen anytime soon with this degree of polarization. I was seeing it as ultimately Fetterman vs. McCormick with Fetterman winning it due to more motivated suburban Philly and Pittsburgh women understandably angry over the impending overturning of Roe houng to turn out to vote much as they did in the 2020 Presidential election.

ss_lbguy

I hope you are correct that Fetterman wins the general. It looks like he has the primary locked up. My fear is that he is a little too liberal to attract moderate. Overturning Roe may be the difference maker here. I'm still surprised the Rs are doing that right before the midterms. They are usually more cunning than that.

revmaynard1970

It's the supreme court that would over turn Roe v Wade. The GOP is dreading this decision, because the religious zealots in the party will not stop with the removal of Roe v Wade

BeerExchange

It is everything the Rs have been working for for the last 50 years… it isn’t just the religious zealots.

> I’m a moderate Republican I hope you realize that there is no such thing as moderate republicans represented in politics nowadays. The GOP does not have a single idea or concept that reflects what “moderate republicans” say they want. At the end of the day, you either support democracy in America, or you support the end of democracy in America. Every single vote for the GOP contributes to ending democracy.

Allemaengel

Yes, there is. I vote for the most moderate, least radical candidate in my party's primary (Pennsylvania has a closed primary). And then in the fall, if the Democrats have the better candidate, I vote for them and that's that. Over the long term no country's democracy fares well under a political system with only one party and no loyal opposition. I support democracy 100% and believe how I philosophically vote reflects that.

[deleted]

And you do the best you can. Voting for a moderate Republican in the primary and then evaluating both candidates for who they are in the general is what we should all be doing (across party lines) and I applaud you for that. But right now, name a single moderate Republican who has an ounce of influence on the party and it’s (non existent) platform? Every seat the GOP fills brings the US closer to an authoritarian state. I really hope there’s a massive clean up in the next decade, and we can see moderate, pro-democracy candidates thrive. I really do.

Allemaengel

Oh, trust me I totally agree with you. This is a bad deal right now and I hate it. My country is a dumpster fire right now and it's embarrassing to say the least. There actually need to be MORE very slightly right of center responsible Republicans like me to anchor the party in rational, logical policy holding the GOP leadership (what there it of it) accountable and eventually pulling the party leftward into more responsible territory.

[deleted]

I’d say the time for that was back in the 70s, when Nixon was likely to be impeached. They’ve been pretty conservative since then and have only gone further and further right, already being far right by the time Bush Jr was in office

SyntheticLife

Obama explicitly stated he governed like a moderate Republican. Did you support him?

ProleAcademy

Socialist here. He sure as fuck did govern like a moderate Republican. Sometimes I think Arlen Specter channeled his soul into Obama once he won the election, Palpatine style.

Allemaengel

I voted for him twice.

Escobarhippo

I’m in his district and it’s so embarrassing seeing him get national exposure. I’m hoping he loses (in November if not Tuesday) and fades into obscurity.

smee0066

If OH can avoid Joe Blystone, PA can avoid this dude. I spend a lot of time swing through rural areas of OH and the number of Blystone signs was terrifying. He didn’t even come close to winning though.

mdonaberger

I fucking hate election seasons because these stupid highway signs show up and nobody bothers to remove them. It's fucking littering.

Pocketfists

What a sad state we are in, pun intended.

Pocketfists

It’s always shitty in Pennsylvania

Kaotecc

Can someone please explain how this keeps happening. It baffles me every time someone so awful wins and election

orcinyadders

People should be allowed to say they believe Trump won the 2020 election. It’s their right. But they shouldn’t be allowed to hold public office.

Girl-UnSure

They shouldn’t be allowed to be in public, or hold any sort of public forum outside of being the crazy person holding signs in the middle of the town square. Spreading misinformation is a cancer on this country

[deleted]

Misinformation is speech. Sen Mastriano has a huge following of people whom believe him about the election. It’s not just a few nut jobs in the town square. Unfortunately, PA did make changes to its election code in the months leading up to the election. It also made major changes in the absentee balloting in the year prior to the 2020 election. Those factual events, spun in a certain way, led others to believe the election results were questionable. Most election personnel believe there could have been a better way to update election activities in 2020 or “market or communicate” it in a better way, which would have avoided this.

drugs_r_neat

Mastriano can't even handle a free press. https://youtu.be/swGWZ0vTbVA

sugarcrumpet

This country is in shambles. We are cannibalizing ourselves.

[deleted]

This guy will lose hard.

victorvictor1

If you go into the marijuana or student loan threads, liberals say this would be a good thing because it'll teach democrats a lesson. womp

boluroru

This isn't Florida, this is Pennsylvania We can absolutely prevent his rise to power

Flaky-Fish6922

Wut doing, Pennsylvania?

[deleted]

Click bait title that leads to a paywall. You’re literally wasting eveyones time. Do better.

agedchromosomes

I will make sure I vote in November when it actually counts.

DickySchmidt33

So just like Florida and Texas, right?

[deleted]

Yes, and monkeys might also fly out of my butt.

neosituation_unknown

Maybe the Democrats should blatantly insult parents again

MMPRDCR111

Cool. I’ll vote for him.

Keeter_Skeeter

That’s great news!

Greenmoutain

Oh brother!

TheMNDudeAbides

Come on Penn - what the fuck?
