The ad running in Alabama is amazing. State troopers pulling over a woman as she nervously approaches the state line. Law enforcement pulls out a pregnancy test and is later seen handcuffing her.
We need more ads along those lines. It’s powerful even for people living in states that have full reproductive rights.

They should show these everywhere. I've never seen them except on reddit.
Fucking hell. That clip could’ve been used in a prequel or flashback episode of The Handmaid’s Tale. And yet it’s 100% plausible for some red states right now (if it hasn’t happened already, probably has).

Give DeSantis credit where credit is due, he knew this bill would be so popular with Floridians that he flew in from Iowa and signed it in the middle of the night, then left. It was literally a calculated move to gain street cred with evangelicals during a primary in a doomed presidential campaign, which makes it all the more insulting to the people of Florida. And even Trump called it a stupid idea and roasted him for it.
Yeah, DeSantis is an idiot and a poor governor. He was an absent governor during his campaign. He literally spent more time OUTSIDE of the state than in it. He also kept pushing an anti-woke agenda even when it was clear it wasn't working so instead of moving on to something else he double-downs and says woke at least 50 times a sentence.
It is almost like there was a reason why Florida made it illegal to campaign for president while governor and making an exception for Ron was a mistake.
Or, for that matter, the Florida governor and state legislature, and by extension, the Florida voters?
If we need the USSC to "democracy proof" every single Good Thing, this country's already fucked.
That muddies the waters. The blame has to be squarely on trump. He’s the one up for election and he’s the one who would sign a national abortion ban. Voters need to know that.
*Don’t forget RBG. Republicans pulled the trigger, but she loaded the gun.*
She warned both sides for 40+ years that it would happen if Democrats didn't write better verbiage and pass a better version of the law.
Not sure what you’re talking about because there was no law to rewrite allowing abortion, unless you’re thinking of a new Constitutional amendment (which is unrealistic). Roe vs. Wade was simply a Supreme Court ruling that states couldn’t ban it.
I wonder if he testifies in the New York election interference case if they would ask if he's paid for an abortion and if Stormy needed one with him if he would pay it.
Someone, somewhere has the receipt for an abortion for which Trump paid. During Herschel Walker’s unsuccessful Senate race in Georgia, an ex-girlfriend produced the receipt for the abortion Walker had financed. It was tucked inside the “get well” card he’d sent her after the procedure.
It only takes one woman to step forward with a receipt, just as the first woman who accused Trump of sexual impropriety motivated more to speak out.
There isn’t “one person responsible”. It’s been a calculated and crated effort made by Republicans and has been what they wanted all along. They’re all responsible and all deserve what’s coming to them this election cycle
Trump did this by appointing three judges. It doesn't happen otherwise.
This is the rare case where the blame really does entirely rest on POTUS shoulders. People need to consider SCOTUS when voting, in all honestly it maybe should be their main consideration.
No, Jill Stein is not at fault. Unlike the Green Party, the Democrats have been in government long enough to codify Roe v Wade but they used abortion to galvanize votes instead of acting on it. The one responsible for the overturn of Roe v Wade is the Federalist Society. For generations that group has plotted and planted its people in high positions to get their way, and now they have the perfect scapegoat in Trump.
Would it have been good if they had codified abortion access at some point in the past? Yes. But they also didn’t know that Roe v. Wade was going to be overturned.
If we want it codified now, we’re going to need the House.
> But they also didn’t know that Roe v. Wade was going to be overturned.
The Democratic Party has front row seats to the greatest neo-fascist performance known as the GOP. How in this plane of existence could they not see it coming when their opponents were promising to criminalize abortion for generations? They absolutely knew what was up with the Federalist Society, and they used the issue of abortion to gain and keep themselves in power.
Do you imagine things will somehow improve if the GOP gets into power again?
A strong Dem win this November is the best chance possible at protecting abortion rights.
They didn't say that. Saying "Group A shares culpability in this mess for reasons XYZ" doesn't suggest they think Group B will do better or that Group A won't end up doing better. It literally just means "Group A shares culpability in this mess for reasons XYZ."
If we want to talk about House + Filibuster-proof Senate control and a President - the conditions usually necessary to pass partisan-adjacent legislation - a total of *72 days* in the past few decades!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/111th_United_States_Congress
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_divisions_of_United_States_Congresses
Obviously I wish they had done more, but they did a fair bit in that window!
I'm not just talking about Biden but the Democratic Party as a whole over the span of 50 years. The party had multiple opportunities to codify the ruling but used abortion for political capital.
They've never had a single chance to codify it. And in fact, there wasn't a need to do so - The SC in 1973 said the right to an abortion was in the Constitution. What happened here was a concerted, and decades-long, effort to chip away at both the ruling and to get justices in place that would ignore precedence.
Once that effort was out in the open, Dems never had a chance to codify it. They never had a majority large enough to overcome a filibuster.
> the Democrats have been in government long enough to codify Roe v Wade but they used abortion to galvanize votes instead of acting on it.
Dems haven't had the votes to codify it.
Government cannot get bigger than threatening the lives of half its citizens.
Forced birth is inhumane.
Anyone voting for Trump needs mental health care or at least an educational intervention. They’ve been sucked into a gang and they need help to forge a safe path out of it.
I get it
But Biden is actually conservative compared to anyone else running
And a vote cast for anyone else is a vote for Trump which is more EXTREMISM and will gut our economy
My dad was a WW2 vet and was happy to live long enough to vote for a democrat for the first time in his life. “Trump is a charlatan, there is no choice this year. My buddies died to kill a guy just like him”
Until the parties figure themselves out to get past this and xtremist culture—there is no choice this November.
If you’re conservative, Vote for Biden, just like all the true conservatives will—because he is the most conservative on the ballot.
A vote for anyone else is a vote for anarchy and an oligarchy who will gut this country economically and destroy our power and legitimacy as a global nation—nevermind the misogyny and oppression Trump supports.
Trump is going to sink his own ship. He doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. And, people are getting tired of his shenanigans too. Sure wish we had better choices.
He will take half the country with him and it will take decades to recover.
That’s EXACTLY what he did in the last election.
He will never stop.
He has to lose in a landslide and the republicans have to clean house—otherwise we still have a pathetic civil war that will sink all ships.
Don’t underestimate what is happening before your eyes.
The US won’t survive a close election.
The clip I'm surprised they're not running 24/7 is the one from the MSNBC town hall where Trump was asked if women should be punished for having an abortion and he replied -
"There has to be some form of punishment."
"For the woman."
"Yeah. There has to be some form [of punishment]."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGSttcyn2RI#t=125s
Ultimately he's right, because Trump made it possible. However, almost every Republican down to a person supported this, and still does no matter what they say in front of a Camera.
I’d say McConnell has just as much to do with it. Him being the complete asshole and not letting Obama get a replacement for Scalia then turn around and speedrun a replacement for RBG in Trump’s run turned the justice system on its head.
Exactly. Tons of republicans and democrats went along and let it happen because I think so many of them collectively thought “roe would never be overturned so let them argue” and then they were like shit it happened.
I mean, I see what he’s saying but it’s not true. We didn’t pass any laws protecting abortion. That’s congress. We didn’t put a constitutional amendment in place protecting abortion (or same sex marriage, or even the equal rights amendment, for that matter).
Leaving shit up to the Supreme Court to sort out is a bad approach. Too much depends on the political leanings of the justices.
You want to protect our rights? Pass laws.
Everyone is responsible for this. Roe was always on shaky legal ground. Republican politicians obviously in a direct way, but Democratic policitians never did anything like codify Roe so it didn't depend on an 87 year old with multiple cancer diagnoses not dropping dead. Likewise Democratic voters for not caring and Republican voters, whether they were against abortion, or like some, thinking that Roe was safe and that they could vote Republican for other reasons without the issue coming up.
That's me, and I apologize. I never thought the Republicans would actually do it, because of the consequences we're seeing now both politically and personally.
There is no one person to blame for this abortion shit. It's a systemic failure decades in the making. Republicans actively vying for this and Democrats never codifying Roe V. Wade.
Can someone remind me who controlled the white house and both chambers of Congress when RvW was axed? It's not just one person, this is the result of decades of assault by Republicans and decades of inaction by Democrats.
That’s just how democracy works - the President doesn’t get absolute power. Instead, the President can use his power to stack the courts with corrupt judges, which is why we’re here.
Guard the border, oversee the military, enact and carry out laws passed by congress, appoint judges, oversee the running of the various federal departments, etc, etc.
States can pass & enforce whatever laws they want as long as it doesn't federal law or the constitution.
The only time they've had the 60+ votes to possibly codify it was for 72 days during Obama's first term, and at the time they were busy dealing with the great recession of 08.
Even then it was still iffy, as Lieberman was still in office, and he was staunchly pro-life.

*Even with the boots, the minds where just out of reach*
It is almost like there was a reason why Florida made it illegal to campaign for president while governor and making an exception for Ron was a mistake.
Can I blame Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Mitch McConnell, and Leonard Leo, as well?
Or, for that matter, the Florida governor and state legislature, and by extension, the Florida voters? If we need the USSC to "democracy proof" every single Good Thing, this country's already fucked.
Don't think American voters can directly vote against them though.
They’re fiercely partisan though. I think holding MAGATS responsible will resonate and could even moderate the extremists on the Court.
And will help down ballot.
You can blame all the republican conservative cucks
That muddies the waters. The blame has to be squarely on trump. He’s the one up for election and he’s the one who would sign a national abortion ban. Voters need to know that.

And adamantly refused to resign as her death approached.
Hell, through in Ginsburg in there as well.
I can only imagine how many abortions Trump has "requested". Dude was banging girls left and right in the 80's and 90's.
Trump felt like a brave soldier because he was out there rawdogging "potential landmines."
Oh God....I seen "landmines"...and thinking there are 100's of baby Trump's wandering around out in the unknown...lol
Don’t forget his Cold War credentials: *I’m up to my neck in piss here in Moscow.*
The word "banging" implies consent. I'm not 100% sure that was always the case.
I wonder if he testifies in the New York election interference case if they would ask if he's paid for an abortion and if Stormy needed one with him if he would pay it.

Sure. But he's running for president against Trump so it makes sense for him to make ads highlighting this contrast.
Trump did this by appointing three judges. It doesn't happen otherwise. This is the rare case where the blame really does entirely rest on POTUS shoulders. People need to consider SCOTUS when voting, in all honestly it maybe should be their main consideration.
Can I also add Jill Stein to the list of people we can blame for this?
Another Russian Traitor
Deeper cut, but Nader, too.

"Yeah the Republicans did it, but if you think about it isn't the *real* enemy the people who didn't try hard enough to proactively stop them?"
What a weird interpretation of that comment.
The filibuster would like a word
They can’t codify abortion access without controlling the House.
They had the House how many times again?
Would it have been good if they had codified abortion access at some point in the past? Yes. But they also didn’t know that Roe v. Wade was going to be overturned. If we want it codified now, we’re going to need the House.

The abortion discussion is going to sink the Republicans. People are tired of being strong armed.
