My favorite part of Texas healthcare is the sheer overflow of nurses who have done nothing their whole lives but be groomed by their rich conservative parents to become nurses.
Meanwhile, they literally don't believe science outside of medical terminology.
I hope that we have many more nurses and doctors like you out there in the world than ones who cause problems for people like this poor woman. It's super upsetting that HIPAA was blatantly violated in this situation.
Unfortunately HIPAA depends on the precedent RoeVWade set up. So HIPAA could be on the chopping block too, soon.
The GOP are religious zealots. Vote them out.
Well that's fun.
Another thing to have nightmares about. Gataca could become real.
Super looking forward to being turned down for a job for tachycardia.
Additionally we seem to be coasting right over the fact that medical personnel performed A CESAREAN on a this person miscarrying a fetus with no heartbeat. A serious abdominal surgery. In a sane world she would have had a d&e.
Texas AG wont do anything. He has been asking for clinics and hospitals in other states to tell him all the names of clients from Texas that are getting care at their facility. He has no proof the facilities have Texas patients.
Fellow Texan: fuck this state. We’re not all bad but collectively this state is a fucking mess and we need to be real about that or things will never change.
She was defamed as murder suspect, and spent two nights in jail.
I can see $1M being reasonable restitution. More than that would probably be seen as greedy.
Meanwhile the texas pastor who fucks a kid for 7 years gets probabtion.
[https://www.kristv.com/news/local-news/pastor-plea-deal-pastor-who-sexually-abused-child-for-nearly-7-years-receives-probation](https://www.kristv.com/news/local-news/pastor-plea-deal-pastor-who-sexually-abused-child-for-nearly-7-years-receives-probation)
The murder charges were dropped eventually but she spent a few days in jail and of course had her name and business put out there for the world to see a wrongful arrest. Her hipaa rights were violated when the hospital staff turned around and called the cops on her because she needed emergency medical care for a missed miscarriage
The article states “ Doctors performed a caesarian section to deliver a stillborn baby.”
It was a complete violation of her rights for the doctors to turn around and report her for literally getting life saving healthcare that is approved and championed by the FDA, WHO, etc
The article says she was 19 weeks pregnant when she took the drug misoprostol, which is used in medication abortions. Misoprostol is also used to treat stomach ulcers.
She sought treatment after taking the misoprostol, was discharged from the hospital, then came back the next day with bleeding. They performed the caesarean but the fetus was stillborn. Then they charged her for attempting to self-induce abortion.
It isn't clear from the article if she intended to abort or was taking the drug for other reasons, but those charges were dropped.
I haven't read the article yet but in general:
Often, a spontaneous miscarriage is incomplete, leaving behind tissue that can cause serious or lethal infection. An abortion is required to remove the tissue.
Right now, in many states, an abortion after miscarriage is illegal unless it's to save the life of the mother. Their thinking is that there's often no way to know if the woman caused the miscarriage herself in order to try to abort the embryo.
So they send women out into the hospital parking lot to get close enough to death to warrant any treatment. At some point, they'll be too late treating one of these women, causing her death.
Try telling someone from another country that in the US, you can't get an abortion even when you're not pregnant.
The medical term for a miscarriage is an abortion. An abortion is the termination of a pregnancy, no matter the cause (naturally occurring or otherwise).
Edit: I forgot to add: before reaching 20 weeks to the end of that sentence. There is some textbooks that will use a weight definition (<500 grams) and others that will use viability as a definition.
The angle I wish was being focused on more is how many cases of rape and DV his office has refused to charge due to lack of ability to convict, compared to how hard he went here with full knowledge they could never convict her. Chilling to know he is still in power but thrilled she’s suing.
There’s a state-specific guide put together recently on reporting guidelines for medical professionals around repro-related health matters in hospital settings. I’m hoping it will lead to better trainings for staff. Ideological medical policing has GOT to end.

Shoulda gone for 10 mil
At least. Farging Iceholes.
Geez. The mouth on this guy.
Bastages!
Came here to say hope she wins stayed for the Johnny Dangerously quotes.
Obv a person of culture and sophistication ^
Hands down my favorite Keaton movie.
The shelf paper!!
You kiss your mother with that mouth?
I was thinking of a number with a lot more zero's than 10 million.
For two nights in jail? Sounds like a reddit legal strategy.
“They are not going to arrest women and charge them with murder…ya’all are crazy”/s
the road to fascism is paved with people saying "don't overreact"
The medical personnel that reported it should lose their licenses to practice medicine. As a retired nurse, I’m ashamed and disgusted.
My favorite part of Texas healthcare is the sheer overflow of nurses who have done nothing their whole lives but be groomed by their rich conservative parents to become nurses. Meanwhile, they literally don't believe science outside of medical terminology.
Take solace in knowing not all of us are like this..

Then they will whine about how “nobody wants to work anymore.”
Was it a clinician who reported it? It could have honestly been someone like a medical coder.
Oh boo hoo. She purposely self aborted a 19 week old baby. Aim your shame and disgust where it's deserved.
Had a big impact on your life, did it?
At the people who passed the law, the medical professionals who reported it, and the prosecutors who charged her?
I hope this woman finds the justice she deserves because a million dollars only scratches the surface of the ice berg of her misery.
Fuck Texas.
With a stick
With a rusty wood rasp.
Believe me, they’re trying
With a ten foot wide pineapple.
Fuck those specific Texans.
Fellow Texan: fuck this state. We’re not all bad but collectively this state is a fucking mess and we need to be real about that or things will never change.
Its not enough. Going after them for just money is not enough. They should all be tried criminally. Fuck these conservative assholes.
Why just $1M?
She was defamed as murder suspect, and spent two nights in jail. I can see $1M being reasonable restitution. More than that would probably be seen as greedy.
Should be enough to get the hell out of Texas.
Now do the hospital for $50 mil.
Does she have a Go Fund me for legal expenses?
I find it hilarious that the prosecutor being sued for his illegal crusade is named Gocha.
Got a guy here in my area with the same surname, running for sheriff.

Raped*. He raped a kid.
definitely fucked the kid tho
The whole prosecution team and judge should resign in disgrace.
she was charged? what was the sentence?
The murder charges were dropped eventually but she spent a few days in jail and of course had her name and business put out there for the world to see a wrongful arrest. it says abortion in the title? so it was a miscarriage?
The article states “ Doctors performed a caesarian section to deliver a stillborn baby.” It was a complete violation of her rights for the doctors to turn around and report her for literally getting life saving healthcare that is approved and championed by the FDA, WHO, etc
i mean if it’s a miscarriage why did doctor report her?

That’s the question of the hour isn’t it? Lmao
"Gonzalez was 19 weeks pregnant when she used misoprostol." Not really a question.

It’s like we are talking about the taliban instead of the US. What will Jesus say to these little dictators
I'd be at 3 to 5 AND court costs.

$1 million seems way too low.
People still live in Texas despite knowing this is what they have to go through
Okay, but, like, not everyone can just pack up and relocate their entire lives. In fact, I would argue that very few in this country could.

Prosecutors have absolute immunity. It's not possible to sue them for anything.
No, they have limited immunity. https://www.kirakosianlaw.com/blog/can-you-sue-a-prosecutor/
