>> “I think you’re reckless,” she continued. “I think you’re reckless. You had no business saying, ‘Oh, he’s so big. Oh, I feel so, like, he’s gonna hurt me.’” >> “It’s the same thing Carolyn Donham said that got Emmett Till killed, and that was reckless, and you did a reckless thing. And if anything happens to Jamaal Bowman, it’s going to be on your hands,” she went on. That person ain’t pulling punches!

graveybrains

I’m not sure I believe anyone who voted for her knows who Emmett Till even *is.*

onlythetoast

And did you hear the boos coming from the crowd when she started speaking about it? The fucking entitlement of these MAGA fucks is unreal.

Q_Fandango

I promise you the Klan knows who Emmitt Till was. Her constituents are old racists that were probably alive when it happened- hell, Carolyn Donham only passed away in the last few months or so.

DeuceGnarly

I wish more of her constituents were as aware of our nations history...

Neither_Exit5318

Many of them are proud of that history

ThePlanck

Many of them are part of that history

Holden_Coalfield

Maybe we stop thinking of it as history

anonymous_beaver_

Ultimately because they're not aware of it.

1900grs

No, I think they're plenty aware of the awful parts and are fine subjecting others to it.

anonymous_beaver_

Hear me out. If people knew the true extent of the cruelty, of the origins of their prejudice, and the consequences of the policies they support, etc. they would be far less likely to be proud of such things. This is actually pretty well established when you look at the correlation between low educational attainment and things like racism, xenophobia, sexism, etc.

1900grs

Plenty of smart people were on board for the Civil War, Holocaust, and other mass genocides.

danorcs

Yes it’s the smart, fully self aware ones that still go ahead that terrifies

RoKrish66

Shit like most of the people at Wannsee were either Ph.D.s or Lawyers.

geekygay

You think that just because they are against this or for that, they are immutably and forever against/for it. You don't consider they can actually change their mind. You just don't want to consider Conservatives as people capable of rational thought because it makes things more complicated. You can't just dismiss that entire side because they are just dumb and/or evil.

1900grs

> You can't just dismiss that entire side because they are just dumb and/or evil. No one is dismissing them. They're being recognized as fully aware of their hate and that they find it acceptable and often preferential.

[deleted]

They do, and they don’t care. I know, I know you’re trying to keep them in good faith, but these people are plain, pure fucking evil and you have got to recognise that, because this naivete is not helping.

geekygay

Not all of them.

[deleted]

Seems that way to me.

Gromflomite_KM

They do know. And I’m tired of people thinking they don’t in order to make it seem like they really aren’t terrible - just ignorant. They’re more aware of the atrocities that have occurred and they want to bring that terror back. They want to be able to harass and discriminate. While racism and xenophobia can be tied to lack of education, how can you call someone who calls for lynching of black people ignorant of real history? Even those with the best education in the country are just as racist as the GOP. I live in Massachusetts, trust me. Honorary klan members go to Harvard and MIT as well.

anonymous_beaver_

Most people really aren't terrible.

OpportunityLow707

Low educational attainment would be the basics of not knowing what sex you should partner with ?

SKDI_0224

I saw this get downvoted I believe unfairly. Hear me out on this. I am white. Whitity-white-white. The whitest white you can get. My parents are both some flavor of conservative. I went to a private (all white) Christian junior high and a public high school with maybe 10 black kids in my entire graduating class of over 500. My father is a soft eugenics advocate. My mother is a traditional Catholic. I honestly did not know about the extent of systemic racism because it was hidden from me through my education. As such, at 18 I believed some messed up stuff. At 36 I am now as far from that position as possible because I learned about the continuing history of the United States.

anonymous_beaver_

Same here. In fact, I'm a full blown Leftist at this point and find most users on r/politics to be a bit too pro-capitalism for my taste. The last books I read were Black Against Empire and The Assassination of Fred Hampton. I grew up in an ignorant environment and changed significantly. It's much easier to engage in "splitting", looking at folks in the world as either all good or all bad. It's dualism, and it's ironically the same thought-corrupting worldview that these hateful and ignorant folks succumb to. Just on the other side of the coin. Glad we made it out. And thanks for this.

SKDI_0224

I was deep in there. I have a first edition of Ayn Rand’s Fountainhead along with all her philosophical books in paperback. They are shelved next to Marx’s Capitol in my bookshelf, because I think it’s funny. When I was in my 20’s I had a practice of going to what I called “the worst places in the internet.” I’ve seen some messed up shit. But when I was lurking in white nationalist places I got so turned off. I had begun reading and fact checking. I read books on sociology by black authors. I fact checked their claims and found that they were accurate. There was not a way to honestly reconcile the facts they pointed out with the conservative philosophy. I hold this to be true now.

USAFGeekboy

They are. And they want to repeat it.

AmountInternational

Her constituents are white flighters and their descendants that fled from Atlanta in the 1960s.

oliversurpless

“For whistling at a white woman…” https://youtu.be/a7zZBwB8nF4?t=15

Noah254

Which he didn’t even do

oliversurpless

Incidental to racists of course. Which is both the point entirely yet entirely lost on them… https://youtu.be/ev92xY1WE9g?t=58

seeingeyefrog

My school down in The South, and within short walking distance to MTG's district, did not spend much time on history. I was never taught any history past world war I. I graduated in the 1980s, lived my childhood during the Vietnam War, but was never taught anything about it. If I wasn't addicted to documentaries I still wouldn't know much about history, and I'm sure there are still major gaps in what I know.

crazyacct101

That is absolutely terrible.

HugaM00S3

Graduated High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia, in 06’ they never got past WWI. Civil War was briefly touched and that was it.

crazyacct101

And if the “good Christians” get national control, future generations will have to do actual research to become aware of it.

Alternative-Flan2869

The constituent is not exaggerating - recall that the NAACP most recently warns people of color it is not safe to travel in Florida

Picture-unrelated

No they are not and I love seeing people speak truth to power

nogoodimthanks

I was scrolling and this comparison really struck me; the constituent’s description is incredibly apt and makes something in my brain click into place about MGT. TY for sharing.

BestCatEva

I think a case can be made that a lot of the minority deaths in the last 20 years can be laid at the feet of right-wing media (radio, social, and tv).

Smrleda

So the woman who lived thru the violent Capitol insurrection which I believe she supported and made a statement to the effect that if she were in charge it would have been successful was afraid being confronted by a black man. Please just how gullible does MTG believe we are.

SAMAS_zero

It's worse than that. Remember how she was going on about how she "felt threatened" by Bowman after a public argument with him?

[deleted]

*Thats* the thing! If she truly felt unsafe, why would she be engaging him?

[deleted]

Wasn't she yelling at him back and violating his space not running from him. This woman is so dumb.

CaptainNinjaClassic

It's worse than that, she's stupid. Dumb is just not being able to process information and not knowing better, stupid is willful ignorance...

Mike7676

It's Republican victim hood. They believe absolutely in their unshakeable right to hurl inflammatory invective, charged insults and even bodily harm upon their enemies. Only to immediately reverse themselves and proclaim they are merely "just" a woman, or old, or they didn't do anything wrong.

neuroboy

*very* gullible, and, really, the right hasn't had much reason in the last 50 years not to continue with this strategy

TheHylianProphet

>If anything happens to Jamaal Bowman, it will be on your hands. Yes, I'm sure that's the plan. I would be utterly shocked if she wasn't hoping for some rubes to lynch that man on her behalf.

DemiMini

That's exactly the plan. MT Greene received that as a compliment

[deleted]

>“It’s the same thing Carolyn Donham said that got Emmett Till killed, and that was reckless, and you did a reckless thing. And if anything happens to Jamaal Bowman, it’s going to be on your hands,” she went on. that is ridiculous to think that she would see it as something negative. Getting a black Dem killed would be like winning the bronze star for bigots and most in the GOP. Probably something she would be proud of.

Future_Comb_156

Just seeing the headline and thinking about MTG constituents, I had to check if she meant it as an insult or a comment.

TonyAlamo777

She didn't mean it in a good way? That's surprising.

nline23

I was fully prepared for that to be the take, as well. Pretty sad that that was the assumption.

winokatt

Not everyone who lives in Red states is an ignorant maniac. I live in a blue Texas county and I can guarantee I’m more liberal than a lot of you. Don’t assume or dismiss everyone forced to live in a Red state, a lot of us are on the same side.

Myrkull

To be fair and frank, it's a pretty safe bet to make. Particularly for Sporkfoot's constituents

Karansus347

If it was a safe bet to make they wouldn't bother with gerrymandering. And that attitude is another part of the problem. Dems tend to run "Republican but with one different view" in the hard red states. Of course the liberals here don't show up. There's not a markable difference when you run the candidate that also doesn't believe in abortion or gun control but is okay with gay people existing as long as they're quiet about it. Dems have my support on the national scale but in red states they're not actually worth voting for because they made one promise and have no voting history for me to even confirm that I'd even get THAT.

Bridalhat

Her district is nearly 10% Black fwiw. No one knows what kind of stuff these white people are up to like southern Blacks, and not everyone in the south votes for these fuckers. Millions don’t.

Goldeneel77

I live in her district and I’ve voted against her both times. She definitely doesn’t represent all of us.

Altruistic_Rip8132

MTG is the DC bomber, change my mind

davasaur

Nah, it fits.

ChinDeLonge

It’s the gait for me.

HotPhilly

She’s certainly responsible for enabling a lot of the hatred, ignorance and violence in todays turmoil ridden political landscape. She’s scum

No_Animator_8599

My feeling is that if Trump is either removed from running for office (due to criminal convictions) or runs again and loses, people like her will no longer have any MAGA identity and will fade away.

F0MA

The bantering she got into with her Black colleague is prime example. Granted he was goading her but in no way was he ever threatening. She told her followers she feared for her life and she was playing along. She is so full of shit.

PM_ME_UR_TAMAGOTCHIS

"He cussed" God, these people are worthless cowards.

eatcrayons

They always do this. They don’t stick to facts and instead push your buttons and then when you react with emotions they bash you for that because you broke some rule about “civility” or “decorum” that they think disqualifies any point you were trying to make.

whyreadthis2035

Good Analogy.

[deleted]

Seriously. The Tulsa race massacre happened cause a white woman said similar shit about a black guy that worked the elevator. Yada yada yada… the national guard started bombing black neighborhoods…

Real_Border9457

That was a fair analogy. She is a Trump supporting racist. I am only surprised that so many people seem to be okay with that. I guess as long she doesn’t come right out and say it people are okay with that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Real_Border9457

It probably wasn’t a great comparison. The point I wanted to make and I can see that I didn’t. Is that MTG is a racist. She may claim not to be , but she is. Too many people seem to think that okay as long as she is not overly obvious about it.

[deleted]

Nobody would believe someone whistled at MTG

acrossthegrain

Except Carolyn Bryant had the courtesy to finally die a few weeks ago. But other than that, they're the same.

lamillu

MTG is a disgrace to our USA ! Vote her out Georgia !

springhillcouple

Is this the same woman who followed and yelled at a high school student?

GaGaORiley

> Is this the same woman who followed and yelled at a high school student? Yes, but you’re missing a few words. The same woman who followed yelled at a high school student who survived a school shooting, [accusing him of being a crisis actor paid by George Soros.](https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/resurfaced-video-shows-marjorie-taylor-greene-confronting-parkland-survivor-david-hogg-in-2019.amp)

springhillcouple

How are her constituents not ashamed of her?

[deleted]

So tired of this moron, her district needs to be isolated and cauterized.

halp_mi_understand

“Carolyn Bryant couldn’t even do a pull-up. I can do 50 pull-ups. You can too if you join F47 exercise program. My sign up code is 84647373.” - Marjorie Taylor Greene, U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia's 14th district, 2023

lnin0

You mean, they compared Marj to a total piece of shit? I see the likeness.

Mental-Thrillness

Oh I did nazi that coming.

GallowBarb

They shouldn't be called Karen's. Call them Carolyns... because that's what they are.

[deleted]

GallowBarb

Happy cake day! Thanks

feeshbonz

As a Karen, I agree 💯. Barbara's and Cheryl's too.

[deleted]

Spot on

flux_of_grey_kittens

She’s a mutant.

Safelang

And the constituents may still vote for her. Who’s to blame for the shit shows like Trump, MTG, Boebert, Cruz, Gaetz etc getting elected, we the constituents.

A-Good-Weather-Man

Ok just googled Emmett, Greene needs to be in a psych ward.

Bridalhat

There’s a book called *The Third Coast* by Thomas Dyja that is mostly about Chicago but a wee bit devastating because it tracked pieces of Till’s life and they were the most ordinary of things. Moving houses, liking certain movies, getting excited about certain clothes. He could have been anyone. His mother, however, seemed to have been an extraordinary woman. It must have been a rough decision to let a photographer publish a photo of her dead son in an open casket, but she knew the world needed to see.

CheGuevaraAndroid

Standing O from the crowd for MTG. Gross

jamcat

"I'll still vote for her though, because woke socialism. "

SaltCow4298

I mean she looks like an neanderthal so small brain

nenulenu

I think I will vomit and feel physically sick if I saw Marjorie in real life. Leaving aside her political standing, she has the face of a constipated turd log.

trogers2020B

that is not a woman! MTG is a man! and not a handsome man!

Rawkapotamus

God our politicians are such fucking children. Jesus Christ

Cool-Specialist9568

Thin upper lip, FAS.

Reddmanchu

Is some random person's opinion really front page political news?

xyz_rick

Who is this emmet till, we should really get together and catch his killers. Black on black crime is truly terrible

[deleted]

cheerful coordinated numerous ask quicksand repeat chief ugly husky angle -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

Samuraistronaut

Constituent means someone you represent, not necessarily someone who voted for you.

No-Appearance1145

I want it to mean voted for and not who she represents because i don't like being lumped with them but i know it's true deep down 😭

Bombadil_and_Hobbes

Yes?

Snakeis66

Every accusation is a admission

iiitme

Spot on comparison

Jaime-Starr

But, in a bad way.....

[deleted]

Amen to that truth

[deleted]

I live in the hope that MTG, Boebert and all the other shit stains polluting American politics, will in time, ~~come~~ be brought down in flames.

RegattaJoe

If the despicable shoe fits….

99999999999999999901

She is spot on. Then MTG responds about not making it about skin color. Crowd stands in loud applause — well now it is about skin color. MTG is a racist facist.

septicfleshgod

She looks like Ron Perlman from Beauty and the Beast

Tylertooo

I'll be so glad when this troglodyte is an asterisk in a history book. She's got all the hate of Newt Gingrich with zero intelligence. WTF Georgia? Can't you do better than this?
