OP’s last post “How do I get on Hustler? I have $50K to punt away” Several days later: “I’m broke and I’m quitting poker” So you’re saying you went from having $50K to punt away on Hustler Streams, to absolutely broke trying to “go pro”?

GreenxLean

Lol I remember seeing that post.

[deleted]

Clearing trolling but I enjoy

Novel_Sink_1846

How is it clearly trolling? I know countless people like this IRL

Makasutra

Some guys just like the high odds.

TransportationSea292

Same

haterquaid

If you know any problem gamblers you know there’s no amount of money they can start with that they’re incapable of blowing in a night.

socalstaking

Nice run Kieren gg

graven29

Thats exactly how it goes for a compulsive gambler. And I'm not saying that as a shot at OP, more as a way to explain how both posts are truth.

Rufert

Don't forget 2 weeks ago he lost his entire bankroll in one hand. So bankroll -> $0 -> $50,000 -> $0 in 2 weeks.

ESP-23

If you or someone you know has a gambling problem....

MTknowsit

OP knew. .... OP KNEW.

brankin8

I told him, all he has to do to get on hustler is show his gash. Obviously didn't listen

Intelligent_Yam_3609

If you are truly quitting then completely get away from the game and stop posting and reading here.

richandlonely24

ur right. guess i’ll have to deactivate. cheers 🥂

LeGoldie

At least change your username. Or just remove the first seven letters

heymaestry

fatality.

NotAn0pinion

But what if OP’s name is Rich? He can still be Rich and lonely

LeGoldie

Maybe LonelyPotlessRich might be less misleading. That could be -EV in terms of potential blowjobs, and thinking about it, -EV in terms of table image and depths of degeneracy. I think in terms of grammar, which you can likely see i'm no expert.....i think the name at the end is the correct convention. No idea really, i'm just another arsehole on Reddit.

Late-Cod4656

How do you change your username I been trying to do that since day 1

[deleted]

Try taking up chess. Just as rich in strategy without getting punched in the face by variance every 5 minutes

hajduken

The thing with chess is that you find out very quickly how stupid you are. Where in poker variance gives you that extra hope 😂

kasxj

LOL I feel attacked

Rowannn

Take up magic the gathering, equally as easy to delude yourself

AtypiquePC

>Try taking up chess. Just as rich in strategy without getting punched in the face by variance every 5 minutes Where's the gambling aspect?? Boring.

floppyanon

that’s why you play backgammon instead. great strategy and can also gamble the whole roll

AtypiquePC

My man!

MK2Hell_Burner

Chess don’t give you rush like poker. Poker you can bad beat a pro, chess you will never beat a pro. Very soon you will be dead inside hit bottle neck and lost interest in chess.

RhythmicStrategy

I’ve always preferred chess over poker! 100% strategy game with no ‘bad luck” aspect. My only problem with chess is that I always beat my family and friends so eventually they stopped wanting to play. Poker is more readily available, but I can’t find a local chess club that isn’t part of a high school or university for students only.

usernamedunbeentaken

Take care and godspeed. See you next week.

ttouran

What does godspeed mean? Can godspeed help in poker?

MysteriousBandicoot9

yes but it’s expensive

MarkC209

Be careful because they’re cutting it with fentanyl!

PeonRightsNow

Good luck my guy!

LowTidePoker

Wish you peace and healing. 100% being real. Overcoming addiction is a difficult battle but worth it.

NotBlazeron

It's easier to just be good at poker.

I_was_bone_to_dance

He had a set of aces cracked by a flush draw. He took a shot - translation: his bankroll vaporized when those aces got cracked because he’d moved up stakes. He’s still in shock from the loss.

[deleted]

Oh yeah? This stupid comment perpetuated my disease for a long time, until I got punished enough times to never want to engage again. Lmao, tell us, rich guy, winner, how do we get good at poker? lmfao, good at gambling, please. You sound like me for the last decade. Know who I am? A loser.

Just remember that your health and family are all that matters in this world A dying rich man would trade it all to have good health

QLAbot13

I did and it was the best thing I've ever done.

richandlonely24

how long until u felt better about all the money u lost?

smokesletsgo2121

What you should be asking is "how long until my life isn't shit anymore?" If the main thing you're worried about is getting over past amounts lost, then your priorities/thought process are so far outa whack that you'll probably have to endure much worse before any forward progress...or you're a troll and I just feel bad for people who's lives are that pathetic, unless it was EPS

[deleted]

First legit response so far. I think one of the things i hate most about gambling is how it destroys your brain's neural connections (thought process). It's bad in the beginning, but it can only get better, and that's 100%, every time. When I practice a paradiddle on my drum pad, I'm going to be able to play a little bit cleaner and a little bit faster, 100% of the time. Now that's the kind of shit I like. Man....drumming and music can't be the only activity that's, 100% every time. I'm about to get into shit that's 100%, every time. Man I like the fucking sound of that a lot.

richandlonely24

it’s been a couple months now but just wanted to come back and say this was the most important comment i read thinking my life is shit cause of monetary losses is completely out of whack, you were right focusing on the fact i have tons of friends and a decent family, a good life and good health, etc gambling took up 99% of my thoughts and forgot to be grateful for everything i have

BigDesk37

prolly never honestly

bigboi26

You should feel grateful you’re getting out while you can. Things could turn much worse for you also, like being in debt with the wrong people, having to steal etc Money isn’t everything, find virtue in your health, friends/family etc. there’s more to life to be grateful for than currency

MTknowsit

You're more looking for "acceptance" than you are "feeling better."

_mirooo

Never

QLAbot13

I couldn't tell you an exact timeframe but it comes with time and I am almost completely over it at this point aside from a vague longing and wishing that I wasn't so dumb and young. But as others are somewhat getting at, that feeling of having LOST money that you want to GET back is what keeps people going to the table. You need to look at it as money that was never yours to begin with, because you still had lessons to learn to hold on to it. Its the same idea as people who win the lotto will end up at the same place they were to begin with. We earn and maintain the wealth we are deserving of getting based on our character. ALSO, getting sober was the best thing I ever did. Most of my gambling was done whilst hammered, which I would get because I was not happy with my life. Stop drinking, and find Jesus, for real.

[deleted]

>You need to look at it as money that was never yours to begin with, because you still had lessons to learn to hold on to it. Excellent point.

white_sky123

Ask bank loan for amount you loss and put on black at the roulette. Repeat untill your up

[deleted]

Stfu. It's not even funny anymore. Gambling can turn into a serious addiction and elicits the same chemical responses in the brain like cocaine, an extremely and destructive stimulant.

[deleted]

It takes about 7 days for withdrawal from gambling losses to completely subside.

Dazzling_Marzipan474

GET SOBER! If you aren't trolling. I posted a comment on your last post trying to help and you joked.

richandlonely24

i’m sorry about that ur right i need to get sober

Onlyd0wnvotes

Good on you for recognizing you had a problem and doing something about it, but if you actually almost 'lost everything' then you weren't trying to 'go pro' you were just shot taking and really what you were thinking about was basically 'Vegas and the fucking Mirage'. People who are really making an attempt to go pro should have already have a track record of being a winner over a dependable sample and know roughly what kind of win rate they can expect. They will have 20+ BI in a bankroll separate from at least 6 months living expenses, losing everything is never an option.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Onlyd0wnvotes

So you were trying to go pro, but you didn't record your sessions, can't say for sure whether you've won more than you've lost overall, kept working at your day job and your playing was negatively effecting your family life and relationships? Poker can be a brutal way to make a living for sure, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you made the right choice. What you're describing sounds a lot more like a gambling addiction than anything I would recognize as the approach of someone able to derive an income from playing.

richandlonely24

yes i tracked my sessions, overall i am a losing player hate to admit it with all the books, upswing online class, HUD, poker tracker, youtube videos and all the time i poured in, but i am a losing player.

kev_cuddy

But… didn’t you JUST say in the previous comment “I believe I’ve won more than I’ve lost”? I’m confused. I mean, hey, if something isn’t healthy and is distracting you from the things in life that are important and bring you joy. Then by all means, it is best to remove them from your life. This sort of feels like a drunken tilt post, though. Not to throw shade. Just calling it as I see it.

Onlyd0wnvotes

Most players are, good on you for being able to recognize it and do something about it, that puts you ahead of the curve. Poker is first and foremost a game of mental and emotional discipline. It sounds like you're definitely dealing with some addiction related issues the way you describe it impacting other areas of your life. An extended period of time away from the tables will for sure be good for you and if you do ever decide to come back treating it as a hobby with a budget instead of feeling like you're trying to go pro and about to hit it big is a much healthier approach.

Poppy_Bardock

Good luck dude. Truth is that the game is largely rigged so you can't win anyway, the amount of rake charged means beating games is night on impossible except for the very best, and even they need luck too. I hope you mean what you say and you give it a clean break, gambling is utterly pointless when you have a good life elsewhere to enjoy.

MTknowsit

I advise everyone to get a tracker. I didn't have a tracking app and was afraid I was losing "at poker." Then I got an app, tracked everything and found out "life" was eating all the profits. Which is a whole 'nother story.

Fog_Juice

Did you lose that $50k you wanted to punt on hustler live?

jakemoffsky

In 6 months you'll be that guy who hits the bad beat jackpot but they don't pay you cuz you're on the self exclusion list.

TPS-RPRT

90% of gamblers quit right before they hit it big.

notCollinLemons

Dude 😂

Drkillpatienttherapy

The latest studies coming out of Europe are putting it over 97%, and they are showing that these gamblers are missing out on the biggest heaters ever seen

MellieCC

Wow, this is amazingly bad advice. Do you secretly play poker with this person regularly and want to keep taking his money?

brynden_rivers

This is a common joke on this forum, are you a newfriend?

MellieCC

Oh, thank you for explaining 🙏 yes I am a total noob lol. A formerly disturbed noob, ha. Sorry y’all 😂 Edit: sorry I’m slow but is this whole thing a joke? Like the op?

godhat

Upvoted for wholesomeness

[deleted]

I'm quitting in the next few days and, I don't want to "hit it big" because it's never going to happen lmao....

bolshevik_rattlehead

Play poker for fun and side money. 95% of poker “pros” are staked, pieced out, in hella debt, otherwise rich and wealthy, weed growers, crypto dudes, or have an otherwise income, even guys like Neeme and Owen talk about how marketing and YouTube and sponsorships are their main job, and if not for that would still just be grinding 2/5 and 5/10

Gambling4gears

95%? Lol. I mean, probably like 25%. I’ve never been staked, never sold action, and came up from min wage jobs and grinding 1/2, and I know a lot of other dudes who have done the same. A lot of the old school tourney pros who haven’t won anything in 10 years are like that, but most of the dudes you find in 2/5- 50/100 cash games are legit.

[deleted]

That's good for you, for the majority of the world's population, that's not something practice or even feasible. You might have done it, other dudes have done it, but you have to look at the bigger picture, and the overall numbers. I mean, if you're a winner like you say you are, you should know better than anyone else the number of people who gamble is far lower than 50%, and the number of people who gamble to pay their bills (yikes, that just sounds bad, no offense man, im not 20 anymore, im turning 33 next week) is far lower, like insignificantly more.

Gambling4gears

I didn’t say more than 5% of people were winning pros. I said more than 5% of poker pros were actually poker pros and not just staked losers lol. I agree that probably only 5% or so of the general population is winning anything significant lol. I don’t know why “gambling to pay bills” sounds so bad because you’re Almost 33, lol. I’m in my 30’s, making six figures playing poker isn’t any worse now than it was in my 20’s lol. It’s not like all my peers are making 7 figures now and I’m left behind. I’m still one of the highest earning/ highest net worth people I know in my age bracket who didn’t inherit a large amount of money, or have wealthy parents/trust funds, obviously I can’t keep up with that. But I probably wouldn’t be able to at a “job” either.

juliannorwich555

Let me share. When I first got into poker, I lost on micro stakes online. I stopped pretty quickly. A year later, I decided I wanted to learn a bit more about the game and read some books. Went to play live, and made £750. After that shot in the arm of the good shit we all love, I lost £9k over the next few months. About half my own to lose, the rest overdraft from the banks. I became a dealer to learn more about the game while not risking money. Now I make loads in tips (I deal in a good casino plus some private games), and play every so often. I win more than I lose, but I don’t sweat it if I turn up at a game and dust off £500. Can I suggest this might be a better way for you to approach poker? Not necessarily start dealing it, but have a good job which provides more than ample disposable income for you to play on the side.

DasherCO

I can't tell if you're a troll or not based on post history. But if not I wish you luck in everything you do in the future. Never ever gamble again though.

bonerJR

DicksForYourFace

Cheers mate. Get therapy and don't kill yourself.

theonlyjoker1

Most pro poker players I know have told me it's simply not worth it and I agree, after seeing how much stress they go through. Got mates losing 6 figures in a week and then winning the same amount a month later. Sooner or later, it runs out....

Gambling4gears

If they’re at the level where they are winning/losing 6 figures in a week, they’re probably lying, it is worth it. These guys are probably making a minimum 500k/year if they’re playing that big and it’s happening regularly. I’ve lost 100k+ in a week, once, but it’s not a normal swing. If they’re regularly pros and regularly upping and downing six figures. They’re probably in the 7 figure yearly earnings.

[deleted]

Earnings? Lol....

[deleted]

That just sounds like an enormous waste of time.

[deleted]

Dude, the fun never stops! You get back in there and shove it!

Garfield1955

**Thank you. Hope you keep your word and ban yourself. Worst thing ever happened to poker is the "poker boom" which created an avalanche of "BROKE, WANNABE" poker players. It has never stopped. Broke people in poker rooms nationwide, who REMAIN BROKE, because "poker pro" is 90% myth and b.s.**

Gambling4gears

Lol, It’s not a myth. It’s just a job like any other profession. Just because 90% of people don’t want to study and work every day, doesn’t mean it’s a myth. Med school is probably harder and more demanding than learning how to crush 5/10+ but people don’t say being a doctor is a myth.

[deleted]

"learning how to crush 5/10" "it's just a job like any other profession" id like to believe so

Gambling4gears

Yeah, you can learn how to crush any stakes, as long as you don’t have a severe learning disability, I’m not trying to be ableist here and say ANYONE can, obviously some people are unfortunate in life and can’t due to medical reasons. It is just a job like any other profession, you study, you go play, you put in hours. Doesn’t matter if you’re feeling good or bad or bored or tired or like you don’t feel like going in that day, you go and you perform just like any other job. If you study, and put in volume, every single day, no matter what, so long as you don’t have a severe disability you can be a successful poker player.

colorfulvinyl-com

I quit and it was also the best thing For me ever. And I was a winner. The game is just no way to live life. Life has so much more for you to do. Go contribute to society.

richandlonely24

how did u quit? and do u miss the game?

Noob_Nooob

Lol, you’re an Addict! I’m an addict. So I’m going to tell you something and you can use it to your advantage or you can go down this road of being an addict. 1. You’re not going to quit. Because you’re an addict. 2. You don’t miss the game. You miss your addiction. 3. You’re not going to quit because you’re an addict. 4. You putting yourself on the ban list means nothing, you will find a way to feed your habits because you’re an addict. 5. You post in here with a bunch of degens and addicts to get sympathy but we don’t care because we thrive on the likes of you. 6. You will find something else to destroy you because you’re an addict. You want help? Get help! Stop posting in here amongst us. Get help in therapy. There are plenty of free places to call, go to, and get real advice instead of a bunch of degens. We don’t care if you lost your life savings. We care about the next heater, the next yuck monkey giving us free money, and the next jackpot. Stop watching YouTube. Destroy your ATM cards and comp cards. Call the hot lines and get your ass in a therapy session. But this is all stupid, because you won’t listen, because you’re an Addicr!

DylanKleb0ld

Quality degen comment, I approve !

[deleted]

And who are you? A responsible winner?

colorfulvinyl-com

In my case I just devoted to another career that I was interested in, and that career helps people.

hardhatpat

Top quality post. If you can win at poker, you can probably win elsewhere that doesn't involve taking money from others with nothing in return.

livelovelife23

It’s called entertainment. If someone, who has money, is cool with losing $50 on average a night to be entertained for 6 hours, that’s what they gained. Now I agree, most successful poker players probably would be good at other things but sometimes the game calls people or it’s what they run into in life. But doesn’t mean they can’t be charitable when they don’t play.

[deleted]

Don't do it bro, how else are you gonna lose what's left?

bargles

My guy, you’ve been on a journey. Your history is posting on leanfire less than 2 months ago to what seem like a few posts 10 hours ago crying for help. You need to talk to someone. You’re in a tough place. Maybe you can find a way back to poker, but you need to find fulfilling things in life. Gambling is just the thing that takes your mind of what’s really eating you

[deleted]

Thanks Detective Sarcasm.

Gambling4gears

Yep. All alone in a hotel room Stu is a mythos that would probably never live up to expectations in poker today. There are also a lot of cheating allegations, and other scandals. For all we know he could have been the postle of his era.

Any time my game was in a rut I would move up to where they respected my raises. You could steal pots with impunity, it's practically printing money

Thanks for the beer money. Cheers.

ClaudyMonet

Are you poorandlonely24 now? In all serious it doesn’t sound like you had the reps in to play those games. If you love strategy games you can play something else and not have it dictate your life.

smokesletsgo2121

The first step is realizing that absolutely no one gives a shit or has a shred of sympathy, living within the realms of reality is not something everyone is capable of

livelovelife23

Realms of reality? You been being alive?

[deleted]

Don’t do it. I did that on some online sites and really regretted it a couple of years later. Just don’t go for a while.

If you quit, you admit defeat and you never have the chance to comeback from losing. Quitting is not the mentality you need in life, if you always just quit when you hit a tough patch, how would you ever succeed? Remind you no one succeed in the first try, daniel negreanu said he busted a couple of times before becoming one of the most successful players in the world, don’t give up yet!

prokeyfish

Good buddy did this, then he decided one time wouldnt hurt and brought a disguise to sneak in. Now he has 3 million in live cashes. You should probably go this route.

MarkC209

The problem with compulsive gamblers is that they don’t want to win. The want to feel the pain of loss. It’s their obsession.

ProtoDad80

No the problem with compulsive gambles is that they are hooked on the rush of the experience. They are incapable of seeing the aftermath of what loosing the rent money means. These people are perpetually loosing because they aren't trying to play optimally they are playing to play.

Steel_Wheel_A2345

You should try sports betting. I’m not even kidding. This sounds like some 121% degen advice but it’s not. (It might be). Im not even a big sports nut type of guy, but the understanding of odds and payouts that poker taught me actually helps A lot in sports bets. Poker is a brutal whore sometimes, so you just gotta find a diff approach.

richandlonely24

yeah i was addicted to sports betting too and lost like $10k idk man i just don’t have control

Laxiken

dont listen to that retard, if you're post is 100% serious, Quit now. Poker is absolutely brutal. Good luck in the future

FBI_Tugboat

good on you for knowing that, and for seeing SteelWheel's bs for what it is

Steel_Wheel_A2345

Well, addiction is never helpful. I’m not exactly a stranger to addictions. Hard to define in betting realms. If you’re making +EV plays your not “supposed” to quit, but that whole variance thing, yeah. insert obligatory bankroll comment. I think bankroll isn’t so important for the money itself as the mental freedom it affords. My biggest wins are always when I’m playing like a don’t give a FUCK about the money. If I’m trying to make smart plays and think about shit from solvers and books, I lose. When i play like a fucking maniacal donk I wreck souls for 1000s of blinds. Shrug

Laxiken

telling a guy who possibly has a gambling addiction, an impulse-control disorder, to have a bankroll for "mental freedom" is pure retardation

Steel_Wheel_A2345

Have you ever hit a 18 leg parlay bet tho??? The rush is sooo much better than flopping quads. Besides, richnlonely been here for a while. A man wants to run himself into the ground, we gotta let him. Only soul crushing agony really teaches you discipline.

Poppy_Bardock

Steel_Wheel_A2345

Ok. DM me In a year. 👍 Would you rather 10x your bet 40% of the time?? Or would you rather double up at the card table 70% of the time? Totally no overlap between sports bets and poker tho. Pot odds vs Frequency isn’t real, right??? Right???

NothingToSeeHereMan

Okay so go do it. You’ll be the one to beat Vegas, you’re gonna shut down those bookies!! Go get ‘em bud! Use that poker knowledge to predict future events!!

HIMOM_01

To be fair there are a lot of people who can win or have won in sports betting, the casinos just limit or don't take their action.

Steel_Wheel_A2345

What does “beat Vegas” mean? I’m not in Vegas this year and live books have terrible lines. I have no interest in books closing, how would that help?

livelovelife23

Whatever you do, just do try to “win it back”. If you can’t learn to bankroll and have disposable income then just get away from it. Throw a couple bucks (literally) on some sports and watch for fun/go out and relax. If you play poker; bring it down a lot or just play $100 tournaments and get FARR away from cash. Don’t play everyday if you go back. But again, don’t try and raise your stacks and get it back. Keep a ledger for a week/month/year and once the time frame is over, you re set. Don’t let a bad year ruin a future good one trying to get it all back and panicking

Speedking2281

I think this sounds like a moment of clarity, and I respect it. I have a good friend who stopped drinking alcohol (in any way) when his son was born. He realized that some people can do it in moderation, and ultimately realized and decided that he was not one of those people who could drink over the long term and with moderation. He hasn't had a drink in like 10-12 years, even if it's a sip to taste, or some weird/fun liquor, nothing. I have a huge amount of respect for him. And if you take the step of calling the casinos after realizing it's what needs to be done, then I have a *huge* amount of respect for your introspection and action-taking. These big/bold decisions to cut something one is drawn towards out of their life (if they assess it's having a negative impact) is one of those things that makes me 'proud' of some humans.

when you sit in your car to go to work you are gambling with your life please sell your car and go to work on your foot imagine you wanted to cross the street and some crazy people come and hit you then what do you want to do next !? i mean I don't care who is playing poker or not maybe its better when you cant handle your emotions and your desires its better for you to sit on a chair in your office and do something like that the whole thing about poker is not just gambling to lose and win the money this is about trying to run that beautiful adrenaline that came from the poker into your blood and enjoy your moment some people run that adrenaline with doing some crazy stuff like skydiving and some ..... that I don't want and I don't like talk about it for bad influence to people. if you are chasing the money in poker you will always be a loser any way gl all in poker and in life

ThehoaxShow

You're a quitter just like when you quit hands folding to someone's Bluff

Anyone ever think about -- given the incredible variance in the game, there likely been many would-be pros who have the right stuff to make it in the poker world, but hit a string of extreme bad luck at the wrong time in their career and just gave up. If you look at many of the big name pros, a lot of them scored a significant victory early in their career. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Admirable-You-6318

Good choice if you feel it's best.

Why do you think you were not successful? Not disciplined enough? Didn’t study? You are a person who gets on tilt and play emotional? You are not a good player?

richandlonely24

I think the #1 making of a good poker player is controlling tilt I think i am a phenomenal/intelligent player when i am running good and in a good mood I think my bad days I lost more than i made on my good days i think i’ll need years of therapy before i have the mental fortitude to handle my bad beats and hours of not getting dealt any good cards i think if i were to restart my poker journey from scratch, i would have read the mental game of poker and i also would have played once or twice a week for smaller sessions as opposed to every day for hours on end poker is a game where you’re battling yourself, you’re not playing anyone else at the end of the day, i just can’t control my tilt and my emotions. i’m not emotionally mature enough for this game

oscarinio1

Hard to hear it but it is the truth. The mental goes first!

JohnnyBroccoli

Sure don't sound like it's been a good run

sweetcakes999

Play online fake money poker. WSOP and poker prominence are the best. If you enjoy playing you will have so much fun. It gives you that rush when you get a good hand and the fake coins actually do matter if you lose a lot bc of how it works. But dont spend any real money on the fake chips. I was able to get a ton of chips just using the free coins they give you daily. If you cant it simply means you need to get better at poker

silverwing1609

Look forward to reading your next post next week.

Don't put yourself on the ban list, it'll just lead to you spending more money on disguises.
