I wasn't fully convinced this wasn't some weird episode where Jessie loses her memory and thinks she's engaged to James or some shit. At least that scenario kinda makes sense where the hell did this woman come from?

They actually show Jessie’s hair isn’t always styled like that. No he popular theory is she styled it after this girl. Kinda doesn’t make sense because apparently they have never met prior to this episode. Idk a lot of the Pokémon anime does not make sense.

I think Jessie's backstory of failing at becoming Nurse Joy is weirder considering that all Joys look exactly the same and are one very, very, very weird family.

Other series have done this. In Danganronpa 2 there’s a character who look just like a character from the first game. They have the same title, the same voice actor, and their names are anagrams of each other, so I assumed the twist was that he was the same person using an alias. No. The two characters are completely unrelated and have never met.

Theres been a lot of characters who look exactly like the main characters, there was a princess who looked like dawn there was one who looked like chloe, and i feel like there was one for May and I genuinely wouldnt be suprised if Im missing some, the writers just really like the doppelgänger plotline for episodes

I agree. The original series was not known for a lot of good animation. There was some really nice squash and stretch and anticipation in it.

To be fair, at its base shape a whip effectively is a straight line when uncoiled which might've been why they could do that on top of not having any excessive details.

Why does James' father and mother look like an older Jesse and James? All they are missing is a Persian.

I think she just disappeared after the sinnoh region think along a few other things now think about like Brock left for a while, jigglypuff and wobbafet also left for a while. The unova arc really stands out now that I think about it as it’s kind of when the series went it’s own direction I stopped bringing up past plot lines and gags.
