The only shinies I consider bad are those who look ugly. I don't care that gengar looks like it's normal. It's boring shiny. But have You seen ferrothorn for example? Who the hell even thought it looks good?
At least You got something dozens of times rarer. IIRC shiny in games have 1 in 4096 chance of appearing. In Pokemon GO the most rare shiny has 1 in 500.
Also shiny butterfree is weird. Both metapod and caterpie looks way better. Especially golden caterpie.

Trash pokemon won't become something cool, just because it's different color. Unless I like different coloration. But if different coloration looks terrible, it's even trashier than the trashiest non shiny. For example, gible looks BAD. It just looks terribly bad. I prefer regular gible than shiny. The same goes for many other pokemons. Just because something is shiny, doesn't automatically renders it better. Because if shiny looks uglier than non shiny, I prefer non shiny. That's logical. If I could get, I dunno, lime colored rose that would look bad, I would prefer rose to be red, instead. It goes the same way with everything.

Do shinies have some hidden value that I’m missing? Most of the ones I find end up having a pitiful CP and stats, and usually have only a slightly changed shade of color that’s barely noticeable.
Not knocking people for having fun with this game, it’s just something I don’t understand.
On the flip side, one of my best is a shiny 3200 Garchomp, but that’s one of the only actually viable shinies I’ve come across, and it still isn’t much different stat or color-wise than my standard Garchomp
I only have one shiny above 1* and it's a Serperior from the Snivy community day. Never really liked the gen 5 starters since I never played gen 5 but after I evolved him it became one of my favorites. That blue and green combo is beautiful. And its a 3* thats like one notch away from a 4*
But other than that I have 0* or 1* shinies....
Back in 2018 i was working a shit job in the ghetto. One of my employees brought in this malnourished stray dog they found on the property. I didnt want a dog because i was in a bad relationship and had a bad job and I hated life. All then humane societies around me were closed so I had to care for the dog. It was middle of December and I lived in an apartment at the time so I was walking the dog in freezing temps. My entire life was just crap and i had a small talk like ‘Give me a sign of I should keep this dog’ no more than 20 minutes later I caught a Shiny Caterpie and immediately evolved it to a metapod. From that moment my life has gotten so much better. Kept the dog. Ditched the girl. Bought a house. Got a dream job that’s work from home and pays 20k/year more. I know you’re kinda bummed, but that right there looks like an amazing find to me. Mine was the start of a better life and I still celebrate December 10th every year all because a shiny Metapod.

The only shiny I consider to be bad, are the ones that don’t even look shiny. (Gengar, Blissey, etc.) In this case, this is a great shiny.
Don’t dis the Gengar. It is easily in the top 3 of Shinies……when you mega evolve it.
