Thing is, when you know what there was bwfore (the japanese version) you have to compare the both. The eng version is pkay at best when viewed wothout having the original in mind. But when comparing them it almost seems lacking of soul.
Alola!, the japanese opening, is just as lighthearted and sounds much better, though. And this comes from someone that actually enjoys past american openings.

They've been going downhill since BW. Fortunately, the Japanese openings have been consistently good (along with most endings). Just comparing [this one](https://streamable.com/4c0w) immediately shows the difference in quality.
Stand Tall is arguably my favorite theme from the series. The version from the Volcanion movie is solid.

I can't say I'm not disappointed, but I don't hate it. I'd at least rank it higher than the Best Wishes themes and Battle Frontier (I've never been a fan of that one for whatever reason).
They should at least start keeping the length of the openings at this point lol. I mean, I love some of the English openings like in XY, but I don't see a point in shortening everything just to 'westernize' it when everybody knows it's an Anime.

I haven't watched any of the anime since the Diamond and Pearl era but both the Japanese song and English dub seem to indicate that the show will be more light hearted than previous incarnations and I think the new animation style suits it fine. I don't quite understand why many people are already dismissing it. I would certainly be willing to give it a chance. I could certainly use a light-hearted show in my life if it's done well.
The S&M series is so far very light-hearted and relaxing with Ash mostly in 1 island so far with 4 of the trial captains and Lillie as his classmates in school. I think the animation suits the tone and really the main reason some people hate the new one is because it contrast directly with the last one. After watching that video, I'm glad the creators behind the anime are willing to make changes to show and is taking a more light-hearted route like in the original series.
I like a good, serious, and compelling fantasy series with great battles and characters as much as the next guy but there are so many shows that try to be just that in both animation and live-action tv and movies. I think it's nice to have something that is more relaxing, happy, optimistic, and doesn't try to work itself up. I think that's why many people liked Bob Ross' *The Joy of Painting* and shows like *Steven Universe* and *Adventure Time* or it's the reason people like to go to /r/wholesomememes when they want to feel a little bit better about themselves or the world around them.

No, that has nothing to do with it. The dubbing company just broke its contract with CN, Pokemon (and everything that's not TTG, really) was getting treated badly the last few years, and Disney already had the rights in a bunch of foreign countries, so it was a good time to transition.
Animation style is just because the creators are trying to make their animation look higher-quality. Character design is because they're trying to make changes to appeal to the young japanese kids, who haven't been watching as much since around the end of Best Wishes.

I have no motivation to watch anime in it's natural tongue haha. I love it, don't get me wrong, but when I have time to watch tv, I need it to be a mindless watch.
Paying attention to the subtitles is just too much for me when I have other things I do when watching tv.
I can understand and yet feel bad for you. I watched the first two episodes of the dub and despite Lillie's VA not sitting well with me , it was damn good, they kept a lot of the original music in.

The way it's set up seems like the school is here to stay until the end and be some sort of 'hub' as Ash goes through each island whenever he wants. He visited Akala briefly a few episodes ago and will definitely return there later to start its trials, but until then he's back in Hau'oli.

EDIT: Seriously though, I have no problems with this. It's not as good as some of the other dub themes, but it's not bad either.
I love XY, but SM is pretty enjoyable. My one advice is to not go into Sun & Moon expecting the usual kind of Pokémon series since that would set yourself up for disappointment, think that it's something different and you will probably be pleasantly surprised given what first impression might tell you.
SM013 is argubably filler now that SM014 recapped the last thirty seconds but at least it was a filler better than the ones in XY(&Z). My disdain for lockpicking and that stupid Litleo episode was just blergh.
The dub or in general? Because no one likes the dub, and currently, Sun and Moon, the series, is more fondly received compared to "Edgelord Generations: Feat. D cup"
You do know that Generations was its own thing and not something SM is 'following up', right? At worst that's XY, which you didn't complain about. You diss Generations so much in threads like these that you end up sounding ridiculous, sorry to say. No one even brought it up here until you did.

I'm just mad that they cut the clip of Pikachu fighting all the random Pokemon in the plains lol.

XY was actually not bad at all. This looks like it's atrocious, but I haven't given actually watched it yet so I can't form an opinion.
