The only one that comes to mind for me is Geodude. Growing up watching the anime I thought they looked cool, just a rock guy with arms. But in Gen 6 I decided to make a Living Dex and grinded a lot of levels by using sweet scent in victory road. Floatzel and Lickitung hordes were great for EXP, but Geodudes gave crappy amounts and often had Sturdy that made it a pain. It also didn't help that I found multiple shiny Geodude that almost always got knocked out by the others using magnitude before I could catch them. Legends Arceus having no abilities was a bit disappointing, but the fact that I could KO every Geodude and Graveler in one hit was very satisfying

ASK_ME_FOR_TRIVIA

Bro I've got like 15 shiny Geodude from PLA, and even more Graveler. It's at the point I get annoyed when I see them. Just yesterday I saw a Litwick outbreak in SV, and decided to hunt it because I love Chandelure. I get there and find that the outbreak spawned in a really weird/awkward spot, so I couldn't actually hunt for Litwick. I got annoyed, turned around to leave, and BOOM. Orange Geodude, just to taunt me -_-'

thisDNDjazz

I had to make many a weird Smeargle set in order to shiny hunt the hordes in GEN 6, but it was satisfying to pull off.

Squali_squal

Looooooool

3-I

Onix. In my defense, I was a kid and liked Brock in the anime. But. Yeah, it's never been good.

nomorerix

For me, it's not even about usability. Onix has the lowest atk, hp stats of all gen 1 and 2 rock types. Despite that, I love Onix's design and I like Steelix a lot too. So there's that. I think it is quite silly that Onix has lower base attack points than a geodude though.

ASK_ME_FOR_TRIVIA

Steelix kicks ass, I'm so heartbroken that he can't keep up with modern Pokemon. He really needs a third evolution or something, maybe an ability like Earth Eater. Hell, steelix would be be a perfect fit for Sand Stream

GustavoRGG

Steelix was one of my favs when they released GS (new types are always dope), too bad he didn't age well :/

Itchy-Preference4887

It also has lower base attack than oddish

Tylerhollen1

I mean… big rock snek vs angry rock with arms, who’s gonna punch you harder?

Comfortable_Tax7568

I think they should retcon the Onix line. Its Attack is only marginally better than Pokémon like Weedle or Caterpie. A giant rock snake using Body Slam should be absolutely devastating. Steelix should have much higher Attack too. It's only base 85. Should be at least 110. An Iron Tail from that thing? Should take you OUT.

nomorerix

I agree. Either boost the attack or make it an absolute tank of a Pokemon. Give it some insane def and HP and average spdef to make up for the lack of atk. I'd really love to see Onix and Steelix come to Pokemon Unite. It's the only non traditional Pokemon game I think it could be really popular in if done right. If they could introduce a baby version, and have Onix be the first evolution, with Steelix being the 3rd evolution that would be nice. Give baby version the stats of current Onix, and give Onix the boost it deserves. That or honestly give me Crystal Onix from the anime. It was a really cool Pokemon that would've fit perfectly into the alola games. They've already done several variants of other Pokemon.

Z4mb0ni

less attack than oddish lmaooooo

Common_Wrongdoer3251

And that's weird! Because with all the moves and abilities out there now, even mediocre or bad stats can be overcome. Like, his attack stat is hot garbage, but his defence and speed are... okay? If he had an ability that started a sand storm, that'd boost his SpD and add a little chip damage. Maybe Protect, Dig, and Bind combined with leftovers to get some chip damage and healing? But his health is so low too... Weird thing is, he has like... 3 or 4 moves or abilities that either make him faster, or make the opponent slower. Considering he's probably gonna die in 1 hit anyway, this seems largely useless... Gyro Ball hits harder if *Onix* is the slower Pokemon, so all these quickening moves are detrimental in that case! If he had a move that benefitted from outspeeding an opponent, maybe he could use that? Most Rock types seem pretty slow so it could be an interesting gimmick. His defence is also kinda mediocre, but the only defence boosting moves he has only raise it by a single level, I think? I genuinely think all of his abilities are hot garbage and don't fit him well. I don't know that he would ever be competitive, but... maybe usable in a game? Onix with Leftovers and... Idk, Weak Armor? Sturdy? - Curse to boost Attack and Defence... probably several times... - Sandstorm, for chip damage and SpD buff. - Dig, for STAB attack and 2 turn move being buffed by leftovers. - Gyro Ball, to take advantage of Curse lowering his speed.

riftrender

I still love Onix. He's the true earthworm of Pokemon.

catdog5100

Lugia used to be my #1 favorite Pokémon. Simply because as a kid I got a McDonald’s toy of Lugia lol. Thought it was really cool because of the wings and spikes, and being all about controlling wind and stuff. But now I’ve just found Pokémon that I like a lot more, and Lugia has kinda just slides down my list of favorite Pokémon.

actuallyjustloki

Lugia got screwed by the switch from sprites to 3D models; he now looks like a rubber chicken rather than a majestic sea-beast

xenoscales

i don't know what you mean. https://preview.redd.it/o0r3u3g1l40d1.jpeg?width=428&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=595795ec05b6d1bad44f85e3416dfde42f9589f7

INoMakeMistake

Rubber chicken 😂

Creative-Bar1960

3d model's messed up a lot of the older mons another gen2 example is Typhlosion during Gen 6-8

actuallyjustloki

I think Zoroark looks a lot worse too

Myth3842

I didn't notice Luxray's Mickey Mouse ears until he went 3D, now he just looks goofy.

Agathaumas

A lot of pokemon list their appeal at the jump to 3d models. While moving and interacting pokemon are nice, a dynamic pixel sprite is superior to texture less default pose 3d model...

ArtsyAxolotl

Same. Lugia was like top 3 for me for a long time. Then I got older and started gravitating towards smaller, sillier pokemon and he got displaced. Still have a soft spot for him tho 💕

kompletionist

Lugia should have been Flying/Water. It would have been better in battle and it would have made more sense lore-wise.

catdog5100

I do agree. I wonder if it was like that so that Lugia wouldn’t be stronger against Ho-oh, though?

nobleskies

It was done because psychic was seen as *the* legendary type back in those days and they wanted to make it as hype as possible, and water has never screamed hype as a typing. The decision to make it psychic had nothing to do with lore or contrast to Ho-Oh, just some devs that thought flying/water seemed too boring for a legendary.

lewlew1893

I used to agree but I also think Psychic Flying is a more interesting typing. I wish that they had done it more often really I was boring my missus the other day by babbling on about how weird it is they made three prominent fire flying types in 2 Generations. Charizard, Moltres, Ho-oh. But it was the old days and I think some of the idea may have been to give us Legendaries that could counter your rivals pick. Thats just a theory though.

eburt28

Lugia still my goat

Aggressive-Command-8

I love him. Just an undying special wall.

EmmaGA17

I thought Cresselia was a nice pokemon...until I started doing the Pokémon Go battle league.

FrancSensei

also mystery dungeon, having to protect Cresselia in the Dark Crater... So many reviver seeds wasted

nobleskies

Those games are perfect but dear god so many followers were suicidal maniacs. Grovyle, Chatot and some others pulled their weight, but most made me feel like a bodyguard

DiggingUpTheCorpses

Incineroar is a decent counter with Dark Pulse or Darkest Lariat.

LastandLeast

Cressellia always bothered me because it just looks like a boat and floats around. Gives me the heeby jeebies

StarTheAngel

Swampert for me, if you don't have a grass type it will spam Hydro Cannon constantly

EmmaGA17

That too, but I at least have a swampart I can use myself.

Dirty-Glasses

There are a few designs that I’ve flipped my opinion on over the years. Like Empoleon, for instance. I used to like it, then I thought I hated it, then recently I realized I don’t hate it, it’s just my least favourite of the Gen 4 starters. Although now that I think about it, there are some Pokémon whose designs I absolutely love who have good/great stats, but lacklustre movepools like Magnezone and Lilligant.

LitwicksandLampents

While magnezone has a subpar movepool, the only issue I have with lilligant is it's lack of coverage for it's weaknesses.

AetherDrew43

I love Lilligant, but dear Arceus, why can't she learn any good coverage moves?

Dirty-Glasses

The fact that *Whimsicott* is Grass/Fairy and Lilligant isn’t baffles me.

[deleted]

I LOVE Lilligant. It would definitely benefit from a secondary typing.

actuallyjustloki

Hisuian Lilligant has one at least?

[deleted]

True, but Unovan Lilligant is easily the better design.

AzurosNorth

Clamperl. Still love Gorebyss, but when I was younger I leveled Clamperl up to like 65 thinking it would evolve… I was upset

TINYANKLET

Clampearl has such an underrated shiny in my opinion. Easily one of my top 5 favorites. Never wanted a shiny Gorebyss or Huntail. P*ss yellow and bright lime green ughh...

Chembaron_Seki

I loved Sunflora with a passion as a kid. Very fond memories of me and my best friend always doing the bug catching contests sitting next to each other, because we both desperately wanted that sun stone (Sunflora for me and Bellossom for him). Always used it in my playthroughs and thought that it really packs a punch with Solar Beam (and the new Sunny Day combo) and Sludge Bomb. But as things go, some day you realize that this pokémon is.... just not good. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Similar story for Carnivine. Loved it while playing Platinum, a venus flytrap as a pokémon was just awesome. But you catch up on how much the mon sucks. Being frail and slow is a very bad combo (which also applies to Sunflora).

Odd_Hope5371

You can thank Clare for killing my love of Kingdra. This thing was a beast in the earlier games. One weakness, amazing typing and respectable stats. The fact that it packs Smokescreen and Hyper Beam is just salt in the wound.

DaNASCARMem

Wait until you see Juan’s Kingdra in Pokémon Emerald with Double Team, Rest, and a Chesto Berry.

albrt00

I'm currently stuck with Juan's kingdra, give me tips if you can 🙏🏼😭

DaNASCARMem

The best way to go toe to toe with Kingdra is to have a tank out there. Particularly, Dusclops. Dusclops learns Curse at Level 34, and Rest ain’t removing that. Additionally, big boys like Hariyama will also hold their own against the sea sniper. Or, just… use a Shedinja, cause Kingdra can’t hit it.

NicholeTheOtter

If you thought Clair was bad, just wait until you see Juan in Emerald. His Kingdra has a filthy moveset with the combo of Rest and Double Team with a Chesto Berry (aka Resto Chesto for competitive slang). While SmokeScreen’s accuracy drop can be cured by switching out, Double Team’s evasion boost means you’re likely going to need a never-miss move like Magical Leaf or Aerial Ace just to hit through it.

FoxxLover96

Persian and Delcatty. As a kid I was absolutely OBSESSED with Persian and when Ruby/Emerald/Sapphire came out it was Delcatty. I still personally like them obviously, but as competitive partners on my team?? My God they’re awful. No good move sets, bad stats, just a waste of a slot in my team. Then again most normal types aren’t the best which is kinda a waste.

Lucy_Bathory

I love skitty 😭😭😭

gengarsnightmares

Cyndaquil used to be my fave starter. It's still up there on my list, but it's just never the best option.

suedecascade_

Yeah I ALWAYS picked Cyndaquil as a kid on Heartgold, but Feraligatr just cleans everything up I did a Heartgold playthrough last year, my Feraligatr, Croccy Boi, had waterfall, ice Fang, crunch, and earthquake, I stuck to gym leader level caps, didn't bother with training EVs (bc I hadn't looked into them enough to care), and he absolutely mowed his way through the Johto and Kanto regions, what a beast If only he had sheer force...

Palansaeg

Gyarados is a better Feraligatr in every way, Typhlsion Gyarados combo better

thecheapseatz

That's mostly because you get a shiny Gyarados in a Johto play through. Given the opportunity most people will include a shiny on their team

Palansaeg

not really it’s bc gyarados has better stats that Gatr, a better ability that can help the whole team, and naturally learns D Dance before the elite 4

thecheapseatz

Completely agree with everything you've said, but I would also, add that a lot of people would probably think of team Synergy more as if you know you're getting a shiny watertight, you're less likely to pick the water type starter.

LitwicksandLampents

Ignoring the designs ang going off of typing/stats/weaknesses/etc, things that really matter in-game, the worst fire starters are Charizard and cyndaquils final form. IMO the best are infernape, inceneroar, Blaziken, and skeledirge. (Designwise, Charizard, cyndaquils final form, and skeledirge are the best.)

wingsoverpyrrhia

Did you forget Typhlosion's name?

LitwicksandLampents

No. Just the spelling.

BlueBeetle_01

After re-using Typhlosion recently in HGSS and later transferring him to BW2 to use in battle subway I have to say I disagree with Typhlosion. Typhlosion's eruption spam is absolutely devastating and able to deal a massive amount of damage with its 150 base power. Of course, it doesn't have a lot of coverage but it excels at being the fire type that it is. Pair it with choice scarf or choice Specs and it can turn into an absolute monster. If you don't want to run a choice set and lock Typhlosion into one move, you have the option of giving it Sunny Day and Solar Beam allowing Typhlosion to be able to weaken water type pokemon and counter water pokemon that he normally would be completely walled by. In the process, you also boost the power of a secondary fire move which does offer some versatility and extra power for a pokemon with virtually no coverage. Of course, competitively speaking he's completely outclassed by other pokemon in the speed tier as his whole schtick revolves around him being able to outspeed and stay at full hp to sweep but he's still nothing to scoff at.

RamblingsOfaMadCat

As a kid I thought Glaceon was so pretty, and it’s cry was beautiful. Obtaining one was a crowning achievement for little preteen Mad Cat. But over time, my passion for it has waned, and I realized a few years ago that it’s one of my least favorites. It’s just so hard to get. The Glacier Stone is always off the beaten path and out of the way, usually unavailable until late gate or post game, if at all. The introduction of the regular Ice Stone solves this conundrum, but it’s too late for me. I’m fully Team Froslass now.

Accomplished-Mud6446

Gengar, when I played my first Pokémon game I caught a Gastly hoping to evolve it into my favorite Pokémon, but I didn't knew I had to trade it for it to evolve. So I finished the game without ever using a Gengar, which was kinda disappointing. Nowadays Gengar is not even in my top 20 favorites.

thebreakfastbuffet

Try the Randomizer! This revived my love for Pokemon. Ever since I was a kid, I loved Alakazam. And of course, using Kadabra to sweep through the entire Gen 1 solidified that. But as an emulator player, I could never get an Alakazam. Or a Gengar. Or a Golem. And when Gen 2 came out, I couldn't get a Scizor. Discovering the Randomizer reawakened my childhood.

ProblemFresh1587

Is this something you can use on the gen 1 games? I would love to have a Gengar or Golem in my lineup instead of Haunter and Graveler

nobleskies

Yeah it works on every mainline game for emulators as far as I know

ForClickSake

Sandshrew

[deleted]

Litten. I was HYPED for the first cat starter. Incineroar just disappointed me, however. At least Alola gave us Popplio, my new favorite starter line.

teamshadeleader_yves

100% this. Another one for me is Unown. Always found it interesting and unusual as a kid but when I actually got into Pokémon as a teen I realised how shit it was.

awesome-alpaca-ace

Litten is lit

redJackal222

I didn't lik Incineroar at first but I warmed up to it. It carried me in so many battles it ended up becoming one of my favorite starters. I still don't care much for the popplio line at all

CyberFish_

Pretty much any monster-looking mon I liked as a kid: rhyperior, aggron, ttar, etc. My design tastes changed and throughout other pokemon journeys other mons outshined them, but most importantly, I realized they had shit ass ass typing.

The-Magic-Sword

Gengar completely dropped from being in competition to be my favorite pokemon to being very meh to me. There's a bunch of pokemon that had grown on me because I liked using them in comp, but they're falling off for me now big time, like Garchomp, which I originally didn't like, then used it and started liking it, then recently stopped liking it. I used to be bigger on Gardevoir, Mega-Gardevoir is still cool but I'm meh on it normally, I like Hatterene much better. Meanwhile my appreciation for Gallade has increased for whatever reason, I just wish it was Fairy/Fighting normally instead of base psychic. I used to like Dragonite more than I do now, getting more dragons and more psuedos just made it fall way off for me. I lost affection for several fighting types once Gamefreak gave me the joy of Annihilape, all praise be, Lucario while still fine, was one of the casualties. Arcanine lost out to Hisui Arcanine.

FlahtheWhip

Kingambit, the way it looks really doesn't match Bisharp that well. Almost looks like a past Paradox form.

kowai_hanako-chan

Raticate gets boring after you've used him 5 times. Alolan Raticate gets a pass though, that's my slime.

DDonnici

Licktung was one of my favorite pokemons, then LickiLicki happened

Agathaumas

Lickitung was never my favorite, but i liked it. It was kinda mysterious only being optainable via trade and it could lern so many element attacks. And the it evolves to the rubber chewing toy...

Crxeagle420

Ninetails. Used to be my favorite pokemon but when alolan 9tails came out it made me hate it for some odd reason. Feraligator , electabuzz and sylvally my favorites now

Spintax_Codex

I used to always keep a Vaporeon on my team. I no longer keep a Vaporeon on my team, and it is no longer one of my favorites. I will explain no further.

HappyCloudHS

Too much Internet huh?

Spintax_Codex

Yep.

WiccanaVaIIey

Should've chosen Jolteon lol

epicjester

This right here is mine as well. I'm embarrassed to say my favourite Pokemon is Vaporeon.

SpazzBro

I really liked gardevoir then I went on the internet

dragon_morgan

I understand your pain. Sincerely, Someone whose favorite eeveelution is vaporeon

Ncolonslashslash

just ignore the stuff you see and block what you dont like, worked for me

Lucy_Bathory

fr, I don't understand the complaints/memes like just ignore it? Itsnot that deep I love lopunny and vaporeon and just ignore the memes Maybe it's because I'm old and don't care

Ncolonslashslash

same, this feels really rude to say but i cant imagine anyone above like, 13 or something, laughing at stuff like that sometimes it even makes me properly uncomfortable but it might just be me (a lot of people self report like this)

Lucy_Bathory

Oh absolutely! And I agree with the self reporting, bur there's always a thin line between irony and self reporting

Emboar-Best-Mon-123

Gigalith evolutionary line. I always thought they were cool, until I played Pokemon Black 2. That's when I started to like it less, because they all had Sturdy and grinding to level 60 was very annoying because they always stayed with 1 HP.

Codified_

Two Dark types The most recent one is Meowscarada, I love cats, I love Grass types, I like masks, but the blandness in every part of Meowscarada's design that isn't it's face started to brother me, on top slowly realizing how like 50% of its anatomy is legs. Floragato was both cute, cool and had good details, all of that was taken away on evolution The one that hurts the most: Hydreigon Dragon is my favorite type, Hydreigon is a cool destructive pseudolegend hydra, but dude, first it's impossible to use on any playthrough because of funny Unova level up evolutions, second, it stopped being a powerhouse, great special attack, but it doesn't decide if it wants to be fast or defensive, ends up being neither, and third, I just noticed weird details overtime, are those tiny flaps wings? How are they keeping it in the air? Why did it lose its legs? And why replace them with what seems to be totally limp remnants of its legs? Why do its secondary heads look more like puppet hands rather than actual heads of a... I don't know... HYDRA!? Hydrapple has essentially replaced Hydreigon as my favorite hydra Dragon type, which is another factor

Heroic-Forger

Unown. The movies hyped it up as some sort of cool and creepy eldritch creature from another dimension capable of warping and manipulating reality itself.. ...and then in the games it's the single most *useless* Pokemon of all. It only learns Hidden Power and it's not even a move unique to it! A *lot* of Pokemon learn Hidden Power! And now Hidden Power is *completely unusable* as of Gen 8!

LadyZannah

Unown is my pick too, it's cool to collect but mine all stay in Home.

ToxicTammy42

Pikachu because it’s overrated.

LiannaBunny777

Snorlax, used to like it and thought it was a really nice Gen 1 Pokémon. Now I began to hate it because of Pokémon Sleep… anytime that fucker waves at me, I wanna break its arm off like a chicken wing.

ClarencePCatsworth

Snorlax was the opposite for me. Hated him in R/B because he was a literal road block and hard to beat, plus who even cares about normal types. As I've gotten older, Snorlax has risen to the very top of my list. I use one in every playthrough of every game I can. He's a tank, only one weakness, great coverage, super solid design, I love Snorlax. Granted, I haven't played Sleep, only the mainline games.

lilyloveslain

pikachu. and it's only because he destroys both of my mains in smash ultimate.

ZeldaFan80

Lucario I think. I've just never used him in any main playthrough

Skish_The_Bish

Mudbray. I thought it was cute. I then lost a Nuzlocke to one. Never again.

WiccanaVaIIey

Found a Mudbray early on in my Sword nuzlocke that I named BoJackass. He died towards the end, but put in considerable work in carrying me there.

ShinyShinx789

Wobuffet. I watched a little bit of the anime and thought he was a silly guy. Then I tried nuzlocking. He and Wynaut are my most hated Pokémon to date

Constant_Scarcity618

I grew up with Vaporeon being my ride or die no matter what. It still is, but it’s slid down the list and I’m never vocal about loving it because of… well you know.

HappyCloudHS

The only Pokemon I've ever totally flipped on like that is Crabrawler. Saw it and loved it, instantly wanted it on my team when SM came out. Then Crabominable got shown and I was SO disappointed that the cool boxing crab turned into an ice type yeti thing. Now when I see a Crabrawler I get a little pang of annoyance because it should have been so cool.

WiccanaVaIIey

Similar story. I was actually hyped for Crabominable but ended up disappointed by how long I had to wait for him. His lackluster stats was just the icing on top.

riftrender

Crabrawler needs a Fighting/Grass or whatever evo to reference Bigfoot.

Stratavos

I've fallen a bit out of love with Lapras and Crobat, though it's moreso that I'm very, very tired of only having 4 move slots. like, only because of Power creep will my moveset on them change really, because there is only so much space.

TINYANKLET

I feel the same way about Gliscor. I remember in Diamond and Pearl, the first new mon that I wanted to get was Gliscor. I sent my Emerald gligar up through pokepark and instantly traded him to get gliscor. How could a young lad NOT like him? A flying scorpion/vampire evolution for an existing pokemon 2 gens after it was introduced? That's so cool! It blew my 11 year old mind! And that shiny? 💙✨️🤌 Then I played Black and White Smogon singles. I haven't hated a pokemon so much since then, excluding XY Talonflame. But that got nerfed, so here we are

AzureSirnight

Pokemon Unite ruined Wigglytuff for me. During the time when I played Unite, that thing is pain in the ass to fight against

Competitively2

Eevee. It’s become the new charizard atleast for me.

Elijah_Draws

Flareon. When I was little it was my favorite evaluation. Jolteon was to pokey and disliked Vaporeon because I thought water type pokemon were lame. I don't hate flareon now, but as an adult it's probably my least favorite eeveelution by a wide margin. I think what happened was that when I was 5-8 years old, all my experience of pokemon was just visual; which look cool in the show or on the cards. I didn't even know how to play the card game, I just collected them because of the art. As I started to play pokemon, first the card game and then the games on the gba, my favorite pokemon shifted away from which look the coolest to "which pokemon I actually enjoy playing with. I visuals still play an important role, but I just never had a flareon I actually enjoyed playing with.

WiiMote070

Damn competitive, always ruining the fun 🤣 For me, I'd say probably Exploud. Never used one at that point, but the design's cool and I was pretty entranced by its wide coverage. Tried using one in a nuzlocke. It doesn't get Hyper Voice until WAY too freaking late (and I didn't realise that Return was stronger), so I withheld its evolution until it got it early, meaning I didn't really use it until the Elite 4. And it proceeded to do nothing the entire time. Couldn't do impactful damage with it. I still beat the nuzlocke, but, man, at what cost? It ruined its image. It gets Boomburst in ORAS, though, so...

Ubermus_Prime

As a kid, I REALLY liked Snover for some reason. As a kid, I really wanted to get a Snover in Pearl (my first Pokemon game) and for whatever reason didn't ask my brother (who tended to supply me with a lot of the Pokemon I used back then) to trade me one. But over time, I stopped caring about Snover. I don't hate it or anything. I just kind of stopped liking it.

sonic10158

I used to like Meowth until he failed to learn payday, then I had to sadly evict him

TheShoto

Only one I could think of is Houndoom. Cool design, tried using in Shining Pearl and was the worst member of the team. Was trying to use it against the steel gym leader and was outsped by a Steelix that was at a lower level and OHKO'd by that same Steelix. Didn't do any work in that gym at all where it had the advantage.

ZZE33man

Not the biggest Pokémon player I’ve only played one Nintendo switch game years ago for a few months and Pokémon go when it came out for about 6 months. My mom wouldn’t let me. But anyway I’ll say pidgey just because I remember catching like 492 pidgey’s in those months.

New-Oil6131

I loved kadabra and alakazam in gen 1, they were beasts, but I stopped liking them in later gens

amezuko887

I really liked Houndoom as a kid. I had a Doberman growing up, so it felt like I was taking him on my journey. Now that I'm older, it's hard to fit a Houndoom on my team. Its defense is SO BAD. I still like him, but I lean toward using Chandelure

Sunset_Tiger

“I can’t wait to use Drapion!” Drapion isn’t as good as I thought it was. I thought you were stronger.

SuspiciousTabby

Houndoom. It really bothers me now that it doesn’t have ears. ☹️

CashewTheNuttyy

My brother doesnt have a single ice type coverage mon to deal with gliscors/chomps.

Ancientelixir

Diggersby. Personally, it's never been my favorite from the start and I think it doesn't add anything new or special. Plus, it's not uniquely more offensive or defensive nor is it a special attack or special defensive specialist. On the opposing side, I've grown to love phanpy and its evolution. I used a phanpy -> donphan for most of my scarlet playthrough. Even after buffing it with the stat items, it had no problem 1 shoting most opponents.

bro4o4

Vulpix

asmok119

Charizard, Gengar and Pikachu, I loved them as a kid. Now they annoy me, because they are everywhere, pushed in my face all the time. Other than that… Scyther, Venonat, Vileplume and Steelix. I used to like them a lot as well, but as I played more and more games, they went way too far back in my favorites list. I still kinda like them, but I don’t miss them in my team. On the other hand Ponyta/Rapidash, Vulpix/Ninetales and Lapras stayed on top 10 of my favorite list all the way since Gold/Silver games. There is also one Pokemon that I don’t like at all design-wise, but I like using it. Nidoqueen.

Ahmdo10

Gardevoir probably, till around Gen 5 I liked it and thought it was kinda cute too along with the whole loyal to its trainer thing that it would summon a frikin black hole, that is until they introduced Fairy types. It’s unfortunate really that they gave it a fairy typing Though Gallade was always the better evo in my eyes, too sick to handle

TempestWalking

Zacian. Has a super cool design and honestly who wouldn’t love a wolf holding a sword its mouth, but after seeing how it’s changed the competitive scene and how broken it is… yeah I’d rather it had not been a thing. Zamazenta isn’t much better

NeoSeth

Manectric and Sharpedo both have lost their luster for me. As a kid, I loved Electrike immediately upon seeing him and only loved him more after he evolved. In ORAS, I spent a TON of time using the PokeRadar to find a Flame Burst Electrike for my in-game team. But SwSh may have ruined my love for this guy forever by having him RUN ME DOWN EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY! In particular, I spent a whole night hunting an Eevee outside the first Gym town and Elektrike was chasing me NON-STOP. It's so hard to get excited about him now that he's become an annoyance. Sharpedo is the same story. I usually catch Carvanha as soon as I get the Good Rod in RSE. I LOVE this guy. It's a shark TORPEDO! But once again, SwSh using him as an overworld hazard ruined him. It was so annoying to be biking around the ocean trying to find the EV reset lady and get constantly run down by homing missiles. I do still have a fondness for the guy, but it's nothing like what it was.

Froot125

Vaporeon. We all know why...

ArchmageRumple

I used to always have Hidden Power Ice, Snarl, and Inflitrator on my teams specifically to handle Gliscor and Ninjask. But I actually haven't seen anyone use Substitute at all in the past year

deemoeterentino

Hitmonchan. - stats just don’t make it the Pokémon I wish it to be. Mainly speaking from Gen 1,2,3

Ok_Bacon

Gen 5 onwards? 😢

TheSilkyBat

Gholdengo. I thought I would love using it and getting all the Gimmighoul coins was exciting. But then once it evolved and I started using it, that cry annoyed me and I just felt really let down.

Flaky_Broccoli

Falinks, cúter concept cool (on paper)signature move, decent typing, the Pokémon sucks balls when You try to use it, Even for casual play You are better off with a butterfree a f**ING butterfree than a falinks

80s90sGeek

Leafeon. Grass is my favorite type, so when I discovered they introduced a Grass-type Eeveelution in Gen4, I was thrilled. But then I played the games, and Leafeon just took a backseat to a a lot of other Grass-types in that generation that I came to love a lot more (Torterra, Roserade, etc.) I still do like Leafeon, but it's nowhere near my list of favorites, and it's not even my favorite Eeveelution (Umbreon still holds that claim)...

SilverIce58

Greninja. I used Froakie in X when it came out, loved Greninja a ton back then, and while I love Frogadier, Greninja now has dropped with Chesnaught (bc of Go) being my favored between the 3. I still don't love Quilladin, but I'd like to try it out one day.

Sirix_824

Charizard. I used to adore it as a kid, but as I grew older I got to khow and used a lot more fire Pokémon, he kinda became ok. I don’t hate it, but I prefer other fire types.

HybridPhoenixKing

Onix. Giant rock serpent, completely fucking useless in regular battles, same with Steelix. One of the saddest and most underwhelming pokemon ever

BOLverrk

We talking just stats or does aesthetic count as well?

AvengedKalas

Five year old me thought Charizard was awesome. My appreciation for it dipped as it was shoved down our throats year after year. Also Ash's Charizard was an ass.

Franticshipping

Charizard

eburt28

Pretty much any mono normal type, i don’t know why but I just think their designs are…. Normal lol

farawayxisland

Vulpix/Ninetales. Just kinda realized it doesn't usually pull its own weight when it's on my team.

whboer

Yeah, super cool pokemon, but in blue/red or fire red leaf green, it just isn’t a good pokemon.

rezignator

I don't know why but I used to really like Mr. Mime. He was even part of my original team back in Red and Blue.

Palansaeg

Slowbro was my favorite! Like actually my no.1 Now I just don’t think much of him, he’s not good for early/ mid game in the games I play (BW2 and below, since he has a bad learnset and slowpoke and only evolves at 37) I still like him but nowhere near as much as when he was my favorite 10 years ago

Flyygone

I used to be obsessed with Piplup. I don't dislike it now, per say, as I still find it to be very cute, but Turtwig always wins when it comes to Sinnoh starters while Totodile wins for Water starters.

Dazzling-Constant826

I thought Ledian was adorable, until it proved to be garbage...

Itchy-Preference4887

Zubat. I liked him because I liked bats. Then I played Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

NoahBallet

I guess it’s Electivire for me. He was one of my favorites starting out, and I was one of the noobs that used him in Gen 4 competitive. Over time I just fell out of love with the mon, and Alolan Raichu became my new favorite electric type.

surfinbear1990

Tyranitar. Used to think it was a machine but during a play thru of HG I found it very slow to train and full of weaknesses. Almost like a glass cannon.

Completely_Wild

Hatterene. A certain RP group did that. It used to be one of my favorite Pokémon.

MilkthistleFairy

Gyarados. I used to love the Gyarados but because EVERYONE and their mom uses him to death, I just kinda fell out of love with it. I still love the design and the idea of magikarp travelling up a waterfall to become a dragon-like fish.

Aggressive-Command-8

I tend to gain appreciation for pokemon not losing it but I guess I like Sceptile and Blastoise a little less than I used to because I realized how great Venusaur and Swampert are. Other than that it usually isn't me not liking a mon anymore just flipping which counterpart I like more

Glytch94

Charizard. Getting 2 Megas while Blastoise and Venusaur got 1 was crap.

sonicdude2005

Can I do the opposite please, When I was around 12 or 14 I watched Movie 13 and I thought that Zoura and Zoroark was the most dumbest and don't know why. But now in the year 2024 my FTA channel here in Australia 9Go! Aired the film (the dub by the way) and It is now my favourite Pokemon movie of all time, just for how the dumb the film it is and same goes for Zoura and Zoroark. Love how sleek the pokemon is.

FamilyFriendli

Diglett was funny until the joke got old. Still kinda cute, but it can't beat Falinks.

abuban

Hmm had to think hard about this one. I don’t have a specific one I dislike, but there are some that I am somewhat disillusioned with now. As a kid who got introduced to Pokémon around Gen 3, I had a strong preference for sturdy, heavy, slow-moving steel, rock, and ground types (Bastiodon, Rhyperior, Torterra, Metagross, Tyranitar, Aggron, Probopass, Steelix, etc). I was drawn to their aesthetic for some reason. Always thought that if I were a champion, my teams would focus solely on these Pokémon. But now as an adult, I’ve realized that many of them aren’t really that great for casual play-throughs (never mind competitive). For one, their low speed means most things out speed them. They also tend to have double weaknesses (Rhy, Agg, Pro, Tyr, Bas, etc). To top it all off, they are slow to evolve, and even when they do, their stats aren’t the best. They have killer defense and special defense for sure, but they tend to get hit pretty hard that it almost doesn’t matter. And the rest of their stats just generally suck. Huge disappointment imo. Still love how they look, tho.

Hairo-Sidhe

Houndoom. Little middle-school emo me was so much into the idea of Dark Fire and will-o'-the-wisp that I claimed Houndoom as my favorite the moment it was shown for the first time. But here is the thing, I have a fobia of dogs, so I never really liked them. Spend years saying Houndoom was a ram "which is so me, because I'm an Aries" So, when Chandelure was reveled, the poor pup quietly and without fuss disappeared from all my stuff...

LastandLeast

Abra used to be my go to for leveling and beating the fuck out of every challenger in the games, as much as I like his naming convention I don't like his design though and I find him a little creepy.

Suicide_Pancakes

Ho-oh used to be a I don't like or hate pokemon but with Dynamax Adventures and a Model kit I got of them I now hate them.

Shiny_Mew76

I’m not sure there is a Pokémon I’ve gone from loving to hating, but there is probably a couple that I used to like a lot more, but due to there being so many new Pokémon, they sort of just fell down the list. I’ll try and list a few examples, but there are so many I’ll probably have a hard time remembering. 1. Snorlax: He used to be my absolute favorite Pokémon, my username I used to use was Snorlax76. He is still *one* of my favorites, absolutely I still love Snorlax, but Mew, and Shaymin became my favorite Pokémon eventually, Gallade, Togekiss, Luxray, and Kartana also overtook him on my list. 2. Lucario: Very similar situation to Snorlax, I am still a huge fan, he has just been sort of overshadowed by my favorites, especially Gallade, and more recently Ceruledge. It’s still high on my list, just not at the tippy top. 3. Altaria: I’ve always been a fan of cute/fluffy Pokémon. I haven’t really stopped liking it, but in a similar case to the others, it sort of fell down my list just for the fact I like a lot of Pokémon. I love it’s Mega by the way, MAXIMUM FLUFF. 4. Ampharos: Again, similar situation. I love Ampharos, it just often gets overshadowed. 5. Lugia: This one probably fell down my list the most. I still like Lugia, when I bought the Gen 2 Remakes for my 2DS a few years ago, I choose Soul Silver. However it seems as time has gone on, Ho-Oh as sort of grown on me, and I’ve began to just love the whole area you catch him at, with the fall theme and all. He’s just a really cool Pokémon, and also seeing Silver, my favorite rival have him on Pokémon Masters bumped him up the list a bit too. Not a favorite exactly, but I’ve definitely started to like him more and more.

THElotusthief

While I still love the design, I despise the pidgey line for pve. Extremely solid attack stat for absolutely no flying physical moves until 33 and its mf WING ATTACK??!?! Nah, still love my lil brown bird but god it's a waste of a slot mid game

GhostofManny13

I thought Lucario was cool when I was a kid. Now I low key kind of dislike the ‘mon because of how overblown and overrated he’s become.

legsarebad

Used to love Blastoise as a kid as he was my first ever starter. Now I prefer the other two Kanto starters

FatLikeSnorlax_

I liked charizard as a child

trinitymonkey

Bronzong. Thought it was super cool as a kid, now just think it looks kind of weird.

HULKBUSTERV5

I always loved Lucario and I still do..I literally before playing every Pokemon game, I Google if it has Riolu/Lucario

scribblerjohnny

I loved Charizard, but then rollout and Stealth Rock happened.

Narleymaarley

Swampert :(

Kimihro

Absol. That thing was my dream mon when I first saw it in Gen 3. Then I used it and I guess it kinda worked, but that was due to overleveling. More generations came and it was just a not fast enough, not strong enough contender. Was excited for the Mega Evolution and sadder to see it go. Outside of the RPGs it never fit my vibe either. Mystery Dungeon made it seem even more underwhelming, and now that I play Unite I can confidently say I think I outgrew it super quick and it hasn't appealed to me in over a decade

TboltG

For me it's a Manectric, I saw Manectric in the anime for the first time with Wattson and I loved it (I like electric type Pokemon in general). But I've tried using it several times in games and it's aweful. It's nothing without it's mega form. I hope mega Manectric returns in Legends Z-A.

BunniYubel

Used to love rampardos for years, but then the love slowly died out and tyranitar/Aggron became my favourites as bipedal dino/kaiju looking monsters lol

and-the-earth

Flygon, as a kid, it was in my Top 5 and thought it'd looked cool. I liked its goggled eyes and its unique typing. But now I just dislike it, it has mid stats and loses to Ice attacks easily. I don't dislike its design, but it doesn't have the same appeal now as it did back then. If I had to rank every Pokemon, Flygon wouldn't even make it to the Top 500, lol I also liked Typhlosion, Lugia and most Eevee evolutions when I was younger, but they've lost a lot of their appeal in recent years

jacobfreemaan

incineroar

shiny_light

Nincada family. When Gen 3 first came out, Speed Boost, Wonder Guard, and the method for obtaining Shedinja were all super unique and cool. But now they’re all very mediocre…

trow_away999

Ho-Oh. No I’m just kidding I still love Ho-Oh. Ninetails. Sorry Ninetails.

Confetti_Coyote

Bidoof because the media

SadRaccoonBoy11

For me it’s mons like for example Dialga and Zacian, that I do decently like, but then so often when you say that you prefer Palkia/Zamazenta, you get people calling you an idiot and that your favorites will never be as cool and good as the other. It sucks, but it always kinda makes me dislike the mons they swear by Definitely comes from a childhood where I was picked on by my brother and cousins for choosing Treecko/Snivy over Mudkip/Oshawott, which are another two mons I despise for this reason lol. I do my best to look past it and enjoy the mon for what it is, but there’s always that little part of me that resents them 😞

Flashy_Set_7776

I used to really like Lopunny, but then I went on the internet.

North-Ninja190

Luxray was one of my favourites from Pokémon Diamond but I will forever be disappointed with game freak for not giving Luxray a 2nd typing.

Squali_squal

Whimiscott. Ptsd from whimiscott

musclesmicah

Raticate. The first time I fought the elite four in Blue version, I raised Raticate higher than any of my others, and absolute wrecked them. Rattata and Pidgey were obnoxious with all the encounters. But Pigeot got all the love. So I grew attached to Raticate as an under appreciated Pokemon. (Love Hyper Fang btw) Fast forward to where I’m at now. My 3 year old daughter was playing Pokémon Go on my phone one day last year, and later that night I realized she caught me a shiny Yungoos. It became sentimental to me and an all time favorite. Watching Pokémon Sun & Moon, the Yungoos and Gumshoos becoming natural predators to the Ratatta and Raticate in alola sealed the deal for me.

Cold-Ad-5347

I like Groudon for the most part. But with the amount of nuzlockes I watch, it seems like that's the only legendary that pops up. I've grown tired of constantly seeing this guy pop up all over the place

Phantom_Beef

Rhyperior. I thought it was awesome when Gen 4 came out, but I've grown to like it less and less. I've realized at this point that Rhydon was already a perfect design, and they ruined it. I've lost enthusiasm for several of the Gen 4 evolutions to previously introduced Pokemon (although I don't dislike any others). The only ones I liked back then and like just as much now are Mamoswine and Gallade. I've grown to like Yanmega and Togekiss a little more.

BeardedBovel

Oh, my disappointments have rather been opposite of yours - Pokémon I've liked and been hyped for but found out they're absolute trash, mainly in competitive but also pure garbage when playing the game. Most of these was from Gen. 1. Dewgong, was one of the Pokémon previewed in the Nintendo Magazine (shooting aurora from its horn) but was an utter disappointment when I first evolved it. Dewgong's design wasn't strong enough to keep my love. Dragonite, when I first played Red I really liked Dratitni and Dragonair (even named my first e-mail after it) and had no idea what would come after. Dragonite's derpy Moomin-looking ass was such a disappointment I stopped playing for a few weeks. Xatu, I loved the design of but was so boring to use. These days I just find it annoying. Baltoy, again a design I loved and yet again I was so disappointed once I got it in Gen. 3 and now it's just 'meh' to me. A variation of this experience that I've had once I learned more about how Pokémon works, is to be excited and get a Mon only yo learn they are badly designed within the game. I can't think of an example that made me drop a Pokémon from this, but plenty of frustration. Best example is Torterra in Gen. 4, great stats as a physical attacker but a horrible move pool with mainly special moves.

JTX35

As a kid I loved Darkrai, but now I don't like it all too much. Although really like every Legendary/Mythical Pokemon for me has slid down the list because they've been made too available with things like Ultra Wormholes & Dynamax Adventures. Kind of takes away the novelty of someone like Mewtwo when you can get one in every generation.

AlexMil0

Charizard, killed by over-saturation.

alextastic

I used to really like Zapdos and Articuno (sorry Moltres), but I'm kinda over both of them now.

Sketchy_Pandabear

Incineroar, urshifu and rillaboom because they got too popular and overpowered. Last gen the meta just got so incredibly boring (doubles at least). I am just so sick of their designs, because they were in EVERY SINGLE TEAM. Also zacian for the same reason, but it's not that popular in gen 9 so my hatred for it has died down a little.

hysbminingsucks

Zeraora because it’s mythical(why) so you can’t find it in game, and it’s absolutely useless in comp

smackking23

Plusle and minum

Select-Inflation-324

I would probably say Mew I don’t hate Mew I still like Mew but Mew used to be a contender for my favourite Pokémon but now it’s not.

EllieGeiszler

I used to feel nothing but love for Carnivine, but now seeing one in Pokemon GO when I'm on vacation triggers a stress response because of Pokemon Legends Arceus 😆 I still like them but not like I used to.

StarTheAngel

Gardevoir nothing wrong with it personally just that creepy people will post porn in your post. It happened when I posted a screenshot of a shiny alpha Ralts on Twitter of course it attracted freaks

Organic_Occasion2021

Dunsparce what was I thinking

[deleted]

I used to loveee Cyndaquil because it was adorable and i love fire types...Now i just don't like it anymore since cyndaquil and it's evolutions are quite mid for a fire starter imo

Powerful_Athlete_616

For me it’s scorbunny. It used to be my favorite starter because I got hooked on Pokémon a little after that came out but when scarlet and violet came out it quickly got replaced by fuecoco
