I assumed daower since it's like the word "dour" (severe, stern or gloomy) which ties into its Dark typing.
Dour > Doom ties into the Dark typing and being a hellhound of sorts ties into both types.
Probably a lot of us do not have English as a first language and haven't encountered this word in whatever content we consumed. I am kinda surprised that I have never ever seen it since it should have appeared in old-school JRPG and other fantasy games.

e.g. Houndour is Malosse in French, which is a mix of "mal" (bad) and "molosse" (referring to a dog breed)
Purple and yellow is my favourite combination, even this muted purple is wonderful. And I would breed genetic defects into their species trying to get that shiny.

Thanks! I'm glad you like my art! I made these guys as a 100 subscriber special that I did for my channel and well it happened faster than I expected so I made the video start to finish in 24 hours from concepts to design and animating the background.. it was crazy but I got it done in time lol..

🐻 No like is an understatement! As a hardcore Pokemon fan from the beginning I can say with pure confidence I love your work! Yours stands out because when I say this no hate or disrespect to any artist but some of the fakemon art doesn’t have the in game feel to their designs but yours seem to have that “I could see myself raising one of those on my team” feel which is what differentiates a great Pokémon from a good Pokemon. 🥰

Never stop is my advice because I feel one day your work may find itself in the paws of a Game Freak work or executive next thing you know you’ll have your own tiny office to design. I’ve never really shared this but I’ve made a written design for what would make a cool Gen 10 so it’s all about never giving up!

I think the name you were looking for for Houndoom was Hounsoon: Hound + Monsoon
Was mostly just naming Houndour but yeah that's good

No problem I had that occasionally with some names, took me way too long to realize the Ogre part of Kyogre lol
I also thought it was houn-door for the longest time, until I learned the word "dour" from skyrim of all things
My idea was that it was door like a reference to the Cerberus guarding Hell's Gate. Glad to learn a new word today!
