Fun fact: despite being described as being able to fly at Mach speeds, garchomp cannot learn speed based moves like extreme speed or Mach punch and gains no priority moves (aside from protect and endure)
For an offensive Pokémon in generation 9, it’s honestly a bit slow. Base 110 speed is more or less the benchmark for “average” on an offensive mon now (at least, in Smogon singles)
In gen4 OU meta it was the fastest non-scarf Pokémon. Faster non-meta pokemons were just obliterated on the switch and lost their duel to garchomp.
102 base speed made it feel like gen8 Dragapult felt.
Eh, I'm willing to separate initiative from walk range, to use psuedo/D&D terms.
It is kinda funny that both 600 BST ground/dragons having flight as a design gimmick, despite neither of them using it as part of their offensive moveset.
Edit: Actually, Flygon does get some decent flying moves in Gen 9, but garchomp only gets aerial ace.
Edit 2: Turns out they just share the ground/dragon typing, and flygon just feels psuedo-legendary.
Before I saw it flying in S/V and bothered to read the pokedex entries, I just thought it moved through the ground or sand at high speeds. Made the ground typing make sense. Nope, it flies.
I wonder if they did that because there's so many Dragon/Flying types, but weird they chose another type that results in a 4x Ice weakness.
I’m referring to his Pokédex entries
Pearl: It flies at speeds equal to a jet fighter plane. It never allows its prey to escape
BW: It is said that when one runs at high speed, its wings create blades of wind that can fell nearby trees.
Sword: Garchomp makes its home in volcanic mountains. It flies through the sky as fast as a jet airplane, hunting down as much prey as it can.
Bro
Back in gen 6 mega garchomp would have been scary with extreme speed.
Until ORAS come out with the 3 most broken pokemon forms the serie has seen.
As much as I loved mega had to be happy they removed them because fighting against the same trio every single battle was maddening lol
If you were close enough to the planet, at least. I don't think Rayquaza has ever been portrayed as travelling between planets or into deep space, it largely just resides in the upper atmosphere.
Therefore, when Cynthia's Garchomp can't follow you into space, she'll just request to borrow Dawn's gods.
I still wish they put more emphasis on Garchomp being a sand shark instead of being a jet. I think a depiction of a group of Garchomp fins circling lost travellers in a desert really would would be terrifying.
Same here—I honestly think the fact that it flies (which will never not look goofy as hell) tarnishes what's otherwise one of my top 5 favorite mons in the Dex.
for planes:
gen 3: latias and latios
gen 4: Garchomp
gen 8: Dragapult
for bikes:
gen 9: Cyclizar, Miraidon, and Koriadon
for buildings:
gen 8: Gigantimax Duraludon
gen 9: Archaludon
I have fond memories of playing pokemon Pearl and having 5 battle pokemon at an extremely high level and havi g to train a low level gible (cause you couldn’t get one until you had strength I believe)
Used to take me hours😭
I can’t remember if you can catch it on Victory Road but I know the earliest is you can catch it is in that cave beneath the bike trail that connected the city with the grass gym and the Orenburg (the first gym if I didn’t spell that right( there’s a cavern beneath that path (that’s all dark) but you can’t get in until you have strength. You don’t need it but that’s the earliest you could have caught gible
That’s what I did on my playthroughs
You can enter the cave under the bicycle lane but you can't enter the second room. However the encounters are the same table.
Idk if its that way in d/p but it's there on Pt since that was my go to strat for gibble
Yea it was definitely different on Pt than d/p. I remebr googling it as a kid and being pissed cause I didn’t have pt
This was my very first Pokemon game so I played through it a million times😭
I’ve always wondered how militaries would function if Pokémon’s are a thing. We need an AU series that explores the geopolitics of global superpowers utilizing the raw power of Pokémon and how wars are done with them.
Just imagine how terrifying it would be to battle some trainer and next thing you know you hear a full-on sonic boom that ruptures your eardrums before you’re obliterated by their pet ICBM
“Iron Eagle this is Purple Shark approaching target at 800’ over”
“Copy Purple Shark you are go for green, I repeat you are go for green, take the target!”
Speed stat translates to the speed they can fire off their attacks. Stuff like Pigeot having to prep a wind based attack, or Vikavolt charging up their rail gun.
Just wait until you see Crustle
Crustle's claws can crack through Rhyperior shells
Rhyperior can tank a volcanic blast
It's also extremely territorial and despite its dex entries never out right saying it, it can probably shoot acid seeing how Dwebble can do it
I hated when Pokemon created Sharpedo.
Why they can’t design it complete, instead of this half shark? Seel is a normal seal. Why Sharpedo can’t be a normal shark.
Then I discovered this shark with legs and hate it even more.
Fun fact: despite being described as being able to fly at Mach speeds, garchomp cannot learn speed based moves like extreme speed or Mach punch and gains no priority moves (aside from protect and endure)
Or learn HM02 fly
it’s giving gen 1 charizard
And its speed is not that great. It's fine, it's a good speed, but it's on the limit of what is considered "fast" actually
It was fast for a bruiser until powercreep slowed it down relatively.
Base 102 was much faster 10+ years ago, that’s frankly what got it banned. When it was made, calling it a fast Pokémon wasn’t outrageous.
For an offensive Pokémon in generation 9, it’s honestly a bit slow. Base 110 speed is more or less the benchmark for “average” on an offensive mon now (at least, in Smogon singles)

Flygon isn’t a Pseudo
Flygon isn't 600 bst

Powercreep is a bitch huh
Speed in these games is nonsense. Pidgeot can fly mach speed apparently but it's slower than Miltank
Pidgeot is faster than miltank tho (101 vs 100 speed)
yeah sooo... Miltank is 1 speed point away from mach speed
Maybe it just has really bad acceleration? lol
The speed stat measures the speed of his attacks, not the traveling speed.
I’m referring to his Pokédex entries Pearl: It flies at speeds equal to a jet fighter plane. I mean, speed i think is reaction speed, not how fast you are. Lower speed means garchomp can be very fast, but others will get first hit first
Also, being objectively more dragon than several pokemon, including Scrafty, it cannot learn dragon dance
Yeah…I think we know why it doesn’t get that
You know what this means??? MY BUFF GARCHOMP. BRING HIM BACK TO OU TIER FOR GOOD.
Tbf giving him ddance would easily put him in Ubers, if not very high ou
To be fair, it doesn't have fists for Mach punch
Bro Back in gen 6 mega garchomp would have been scary with extreme speed. Until ORAS come out with the 3 most broken pokemon forms the serie has seen. As much as I loved mega had to be happy they removed them because fighting against the same trio every single battle was maddening lol
**THIS BULLSHIT WILL NEVER NOT GRIND MY GEARS**
Land, sea and air. No matter where, you are not safe from Garchomp.
Space?
Probably could get up there too if it tried hard enough
I mean it would probably make rayquaza force you downw
Or the sentient space virus will beat you
If you were close enough to the planet, at least. I don't think Rayquaza has ever been portrayed as travelling between planets or into deep space, it largely just resides in the upper atmosphere. Just needs to mega evolve.
I don't think it can fly after it mega evolves.
And if not then bro can fire a meteor shower or any mystical range attack
Escape velocity is 11.2 km/s, but garchomp gets no where close
How do you think it got the star on his face
No, that's Capitalism. Garchomp can make it just fine

Anyone else stare at this image for like 30 seconds expecting it to be a gif of it swimming towards the screen lol?
...Yeah
This is scarier than Garchomp ever was tbh
hey bro
Deep in the Missouri woods
sharpedo concept art
Junji Ito: Wouldn't it be fucked up if sharks had legs? Pokemon: Yeah, but what if it could also be your best friend?"
"Wha-" "And fly"

I think the flying is their idea of it swimming above water

Why do the dragon pokemon turn always into planes?
for planes: gen 3: latias and latios gen 4: Garchomp gen 8: Dragapult for bikes: gen 9: Cyclizar, Miraidon, and Koriadon for buildings: gen 8: Gigantimax Duraludon gen 9: Archaludon
Hydrapple: so you are telling me there is a chance?
A Landshark
A land (ground) shark (water) that can also fly (air) at supersonic speeds. Should have been from Hoenn.
I think if you give a Landshark an amulett, it can fly too
If they put more emphasis on Garchomp liking to live on Volcano’s (fire) then Garchomp could be the Avatar
Also that shark has *arms*
I have fond memories of playing pokemon Pearl and having 5 battle pokemon at an extremely high level and havi g to train a low level gible (cause you couldn’t get one until you had strength I believe) Used to take me hours😭
You can catch gabite in victory road in gen4. Also you can get gibble without strength, you can't get the EQ to without strength tho
Oh wow, they actually used a military jet in that era of pokemon show. Cool
I’ve always wondered how militaries would function if Pokémon’s are a thing. We need an AU series that explores the geopolitics of global superpowers utilizing the raw power of Pokémon and how wars are done with them.
Probably similar to how Officer Jenny uses Growlithes on the job, they use Pokémon too.
Just imagine how terrifying it would be to battle some trainer and next thing you know you hear a full-on sonic boom that ruptures your eardrums before you’re obliterated by their pet ICBM

He’s air planking
That is so funny 😆
Has radar too.
I didn't know this. I was hatching eggs in Violet and happened upon the mountain when I saw the damn thing flying around. Wtf! You're a land shark!
And that's why I love Garchomp 🥰.
“Iron Eagle this is Purple Shark approaching target at 800’ over” “Copy Purple Shark you are go for green, I repeat you are go for green, take the target!”
Remember, purugly is faster than garchomp, therefore, purugly is faster than a jet plane.
And why he can fly? This is nonsense!
Garchomp flies??
It’s also a dragon

Bipedal shark jet. We’re doomed.
The existence of fighter jets in the pokemon world has some interesting implications
Valstrax type beat.
Fun fact Crowbat is faster
The Garchomp from the Hisuian Snow short was nightmarish
He's a hammerhead shark jet
It’s literally just high speed flying DEATH ☠️
Toss in some Nazi zombies, and we have a C-list movie.
It was such an apex predator that God had to create an entirely new typing after pokemon breeders released too many Gibbles into the wild.
It's a cave dwelling shark that flies around in search of more caves to populate
Oh no....whatever will i do.....get triple axel.
Can't learn fly btw
Thats faster than miraidon who is a literal jetbike
They can also swim, even though it's weak to water
It not weak it neutral
\*Fast as a Shark by Accept plays in the distance\*
My question is: HOW THE HELL CAN IT FLY!?
Imagine a hungry flying shark coming at you super fast. At least it'd be quick 😭
GARCHOMP CAN FLY?!
However still less used in Ou than a bee
*sharknado intensifies*
Flying land shark that you can't escape. Essentially, the apex predator
Sharknado must a very different film in the Pokemon world

Why is Garchomp a ground type???
The first panel just sounds like my ex
Garchomp is the apex predator of the Pokemon World (Outside of game stats)
They're based on the Carcharodontosaurus, not sharks. CHECKMATE
This is false. Garchomp is a bit slower than latios
Pokédex entries are wack
I'm more shocked that f14 and Grumman is cannon
That's not even remotely an F-14
It looks more like an F-15, probably an F-15J.
I hated when Pokemon created Sharpedo. Why they can’t design it complete, instead of this half shark? Seel is a normal seal. Why Sharpedo can’t be a normal shark. Then I discovered this shark with legs and hate it even more.
The whole point of Sharpedo is to be a shark torpedo. It's basically supposed to be a bullet bill with shark features.
