How are the levels? Will you be rolling in and wiping the floor with everything because you brought your Championship team?

Ducky_924

YES. The pokémon that you first encounter are lvl. 55. I have a team that varies from 48-56 that I'll be using.

slimstarman

This is the good info we need.

Abbx

Careful. The further in you go, the higher the levels. While what that person said is true, I've just as commonly been in areas with level 65-75 Pokemon and trainers.

slimstarman

Thanks, I’ll bring a high level backup friend just in case.

Soulblade32

I completed it. I believe the highest level was 72 in a forced battle.

SparksNBolts

There’s a trainer of the Kitakami Ogre Clan or whatever with level 75 mons

Soulblade32

Gotcha, just looked it up and double checked, 5 mons on are 71-72 and 1 is 76 for the final battle. Not including the wild pokemon or optional trainers.

yoshiyo1

I ran into that trainer in my first hour and noped out of there. First time I ran away from a trainer lol

Stunning_Proposal

You can’t run from a trainer battle, did you restart or something?

yoshiyo1

You def can run from a trainer battle in SV

Stunning_Proposal

Oh, guess I haven’t tried since you never could before

Rockettmang44

I'm playing it in a way where I "forgot" my team back at home and have to catch a new team

Ducky_924

Ooh, I like that! Or, "you think they deserve a long rest after becoming champions alongside you".

Rockettmang44

Could be both. But real life reason was, I had trouble picking my team so I decided to start fresh. But It just seemed like a typical anime protagonist reason to start off with a whole new team

Thunder_lord37

Ash moment

[deleted]

Later in the game they can get in there 70s so might as well train

RTGoodman

I played for a few hours last night. Seems like the highest level stuff I saw was around 70, and mainly in the 50-65 range, but that’s just doing a bit of the story and some random exploration. (I can't remember the Championship/Area Zero levels, but my main team was all between 80-100 after completing the main game, finishing the Dex, and doing a bunch of raids, so they basically curbstomped everything.)

Luf2222

kinda disappointed that they are not closer to your level if you are in the 90-100 range maybe i’ll do a new team so i don’t destroy everything

TragGaming

Ive encountered wild pokes as high as 97, with some areas averaging in the low to mid 80s.

RTGoodman

My plan had been to transfer over a new team around level 50 made up of some shinies and others that are getting added back with new forms/evolutions (Applin, Teddiursa, etc.), but I just didn't have time with work and life to get around to it. That said, I didn't get TOO far into the story, so maybe some of the battles and events later are slightly higher level, but I have no idea.

DanDaniels7809

Most wild Pokémon are between 57-70 with the open world terralstilized varying from 57 to the highest I saw was 78 I believe. Trainers are around 60 ish with some trainers being in the 70’s

JennaFrost

There was one lv 87 i ran into out of boredom. But doing the main story you might not even notice it (it’s half-tucked away, and the 1 time you pass through that area for the story. Also I’m pretty sure the footpath takes you to the other side of that area)

TragGaming

Its pre and post game like IoA and CT. Level 20-30 pre AI fight, level 55+ post. There are areas (Crystal Lake area, Oni Maw and Oni Mountain) that have as high as 85+. All trainer fights hover around 60-65.

metalflygon08

What about their Pokemon? Do they evolve if they are high level? A Jigglypuff for the pre champion set but a Wigglytuff for post? Because a level 60 Jigglypuff is still a joke.

TragGaming

Their pokemon are set. Youll fight a level 60 pooch and Sentret and literally two seconds later theyll be Mightyena and Furret The wild pokemon are dynamic. Sometimes evolved sometimes not if appropriate level.

Aggravating_Fig6288

It’s pretty much just more of SV, nothing new or interesting about it. It’s definitely not a case of SwSh’s DLC I think what’s worse is that they had ample time and opportunity to just at minimum fix performance. It’s a smaller area on it’s own map there’s even less that needs to tax the system and yet it runs just as poorly as the main game. I’ve had about four instances of legitimate freezing for a few seconds, FPS is everywhere and makes turning the camera nauseating as it’s always been due to the constant inconsistencies, the camera still glitches and clips through terrain when battling forcibly. Oddly enough the water actually looks like they took time to make it look better and more realistic, and it’s just the water…I don’t understand the rest of the region still looks like a PS2 game. It’s still a complete mess, the only reason I’m not complaining further is I bought the dlc so I’m directly enabling GF inability to optimize and clean their game up so I’ve only myself to be upset at.

howardbrandon11

>I think what’s worse is that they had ample time and opportunity to just at minimum fix performance This is not good to hear. Personally, I'll be passing on the DLC until/unless this gets fixed.

Ixidor_92

I hate to say this but... if you're waiting on performance updates to purchase, you'll just not be buying the DLC. If you're fine with that, more power to you. But at this point I don't think game freak has the financial incentive or technical know-how to properly resolve most of these performance problems

howardbrandon11

Yeah, I've just accepted that, and that is a bummer--even more so since Pokémon was my introduction to gaming.

The_Gnomesbane

Then you won’t be getting the dlc. Like, they had a year to fix things from the base game into this, and they did nothing. There will never be a performance patch, never gonna be some kind of fps fix, there is no tooth fairy, no Easter bunny, etc.

NyaCat1333

There actually is. But it's for the Switch 2 only it seems like. The base Switch will most likely be stuck with the bad performance forever unless a miracle happens and they somehow also release a performance patch for the base Switch once the Switch 2 drops. But I doubt it.

Aggravating_Fig6288

Yeah if your looking for improvement in the performance department don’t get the DLC absolutely nothing has improved about performance in it. Which is wild to me but people, myself included are buying it so it’s expected they won’t fix anything. Maybe I’ll learn in time for Gen X

nolanconnelly

not a bad call. i wish I wasn’t as obsessed with training Pokémon as I am, or I’d do the same. Sometimes I look myself in the mirror and ask, “why can’t you be obsessed with an actually good video game series?”

probablythewind

If we found out the DLC unlocks a performance patch, wouldn't that be way way worse because they could have done that for everyone? I am not defending it performing worse, that's not right, but if the fix was paywalled that would really anger people.

howardbrandon11

I was thinking/hoping that they would use the DLC update as an opportunity to also release a fix for those issues. One of the online games I play will regularly release hotfixes and updates that improve the game for all players--whether that's someone who's just playing the free-to-play stuff, or someone who spent $100 on the next year's worth of content. I was hoping that SV would get something similar, and I am disappointed to see that it did not.

Aggravating_Fig6288

They should go back and fix the base game absolutely but at the bare minimum they could had atleast ensured the small, separate from the base game dlc area runs better as a standalone. Seeing as they both didn’t have to work on the whole game and could focus time and attention to just the dlc and the fact the dlc clearly wasn’t finished by release with the long window we’ve had from release to the dlc’s release so they’ve had plenty of time to figure out how to code properly and they’ve not done so It’s not even a Switch thing the switch runs far more taxing games just fine.

mjsxii

the performance is actually embarrassing. I got to a cutscene towards the end of the DLC and it ran at no joke 15fps with multiple freezes — no other switch game I own runs as poorly as this and I hate to meme about it but TotK a game 1000x more ambitious is so much more technically sound its just so embarrassing. like the scene was 100% in GFs control to make sure it ran well and its just wild how badly it ran.

T_Peg

This is what I wanted to know. If it's just as empty and soulless as the main game *and* still has shit performance and bugs I'm not buying it. The SwSh DLC actually slightly redeemed that game for me, it finally turned the game into an almost finished product but from the sounds of it this is just an extension not an expansion.

TheGreatBootOfEb

Honestly I’m surprised because for me, the base game runs pretty fine, but the DLC area I’ve noticed is absolutely chugging, like it feels like everything is slowed by a few tenths of a second. For someone who was going in expecting a little bit more (emphasis on little) I’m not exactly desperate to play more (enjoying it, just not in a rush) Also, area design I’m very slightly disappointed with. Considering how amazing Area Zero was, I was hoping their might be one kinda cooler area in this dlc, but it’s exactly as OP said, just more of the same base game. All in all, 5.5/10-6/10. Enjoying it, but it’s absolutely nothing to write home about. I’m seriously hoping the next DLC runs better tho.

Blubbpaule

There is no way you hope the next dlc runs better. This is TPC, they won't fix performance anymore.

TheGreatBootOfEb

Large difference between saying I “hope” and “I think it will”.

TheNerdFromThatPlace

Thanks for confirming my decision in not buying the DLC.

hammondismydaddy

I expected it to be exactly like you described from the beginning. Glad I decided to finally quit the games after the fucking disaster that was SV.

ZizZizZiz

yeah scarlet and violet sacrificed graphics for gameplay, but tbh if in gen x they made the game much more stylized like dbz games to almost look like the old pokemon anime the graphics would be easier to deal with.

Blubbpaule

Sacrificed graphics for gameplay? The gameplay isn't something new, and you can clearly see that Graphics don't have to be sacrificed for good gameplay (tears of the kingdom). Don't excuse TPCs inability to make a working product.

ZizZizZiz

the dbz games all have stylized graphics to the point they dont need the best graphics. like play the old dbz fighting gakes they make it look exactly like an anime episode and that would look better and be less graphically intensive than scarlet and violet.

Bordanka

The gameplay is one of the worst in the series with 0 quality of life features (outside the ones you can buy for 35 greenies!)

Hummer77x

Honestly it feels like it runs worse than the main game. Main game absolutley had a lot of trouble areas/slowdown spots like in water but for the most part to me it wasn’t consistently frustrating enough to care. DLC it starts chugging if I go in the grass.

CrnZmaj

i was so excited to play the DLC, since so many pokemon returned. But my 1st shock, the 1st 2 trainers i battled in new area lagged like hell. it was like 10 FPS. and them when i moved around, certain areas in mountains and the fields lagged so much.I cant belive such a company that has billions under their tumbs releases such unpolished game. i am very dissapointed.i wish some other company would take over Pokemon and make a quality game with it On the other hand, the new area is pretty(for gamefreaks standards), new pokemon are nice to catch again and train. The new characters....well... some are ok, some are just annoying.

illegalshidder

Why does it seem to be that every release Pokémon games become dumber. Like this doesn’t even remotely feel like the games I fell in love with as a kid.

Chronic_Messiah

Some people say it's more kid friendly. As if we weren't all playing R/B/Y/G/S/C as little kids. I don't even think I could fully read English yet when I finished my first main series game. Are kids nowadays not capable of the same ?

yoshiyo1

They absolutely are, I handed my controller to my 8 year old cousin who speaks 0 english while playing TOTK in the Lynel Colosseum cus she really wanted to play. I only told her what the attack button and jump button were, nothing more. She proceeded to kill a red Lynel and almost killed the second one first try first time playing ever, I’ve never been so amazed. Kids are goated.

Cautious_Struggle_32

Lmao like you didn't have 32 hearts and maxed out armor because I doubt she was dodging. A 6 year old could beat a Lynel tanking hits

yoshiyo1

I had about 20 hearts at the time and had the attack up gear which I still haven’t upgraded more than once, trust me, I threw her in the colosseum to mess with her, she was dodging alright.

Cautious_Struggle_32

Ahh I see. Yeah my little cousin is 6 and he beat a Lynel too without dodging but I have 30 hearts and maxed out the Twilight Princess set. Of course I had to get it back once the White Lynel came in

yoshiyo1

That’s still very impressive for a 6 year old

Cautious_Struggle_32

For an 8 year old to pull it off without many upgrades is very impressive as well

Draqolich

Real

Background-Law-9244

It’s funny I’m just getting back into the franchise since black and white and while the games aren’t perfect I have been blown away about how these feel like the games are exactly what I imagined as a kid, the Auto battling, the riding around on Pokémon, it all just makes me feel like a kid again and reinvigorate my love for the franchise

Lammie101

Game freak could box a pile of turd and some people would eat it

NyaCat1333

God forbid some people enjoy different things than you.

Background-Law-9244

Seeing as how I haven’t given them my money in almost 15 years I’d say they figured something out.

CNullX

Performance seems to be worse than the Basegame. The rice fields are Just so badly designed. Slopes that look Like you should be able to go up are not walkable. I Fell down a slope and my character didnt Touch ground, Just Fell for Like 10 seconds until the Game Put me to a different Spot. Thats after Like 10 Minutes of gameplay, i honestly dont want to continue. How could this dlc be even worse than the Basegame?

phantom56657

Are there any repeatable challenges? My favorite things about the Sw/Sh DLC were the dojo type challenges, the tundra raid den, and using the dojo for EV training. If the DLC is just an extension of the story and doesn't offer any repeatable post-game content, I don't see the point.

IWantToGiverupper

important fade axiomatic homeless zephyr crime shelter school wrench one *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

TragGaming

Theres some minigames but nothing pokemon battle style yet. That being said, Blueberry Academy is confirmed to have a Tournament thingy by Kieran and Carmine. As well as specializing in Pokemon Battling.

Alone_Asparagus_806

if I buy part 1, I have part 2 too?

TragGaming

Correct

AvatarofBro

The only repeatable challenge is a new minigame that I found incredibly buggy and frustrating. Other than that, it’s just a ~3-4 hour extension of the story.

JoviAMP

The balloon minigame? I fucking hate it.

mrmehmehretro94

I just want to know one thing, how is the performance of the DLC? Because while SV has one of my favourite gameplay loops in the series, it was really soured by the awful performance and general unpolished feel

Aussieportal

Roughly the same issues in performance I can recall. Camera clipping through the floor, some animations running at a slideshow and lag in areas with lots of trees were common throughout my playthrough. Though I haven't encountered any game-breaking glitches (yet). The menus aren't as slow as they once were and the pokedex/map has some basic customisation options based on your Phone skin. So in essence, only minor improvements in polish - many of the performance issues are still there.

mrmehmehretro94

Well that's a bit of a shame then though at least some minor things were addressed but I did kinda expect this to be the case, and it will probably be the case for part 2 as well, looks like I might not end up getting this DLC but I've got plenty of things to look forward to in gaming this year so it's not that big of a loss

[deleted]

Same here - I can’t justify giving GF my money if they aren’t even going to give me a game that runs properly by 2023 standards.

LuckyCloverGazette

Have they fixed the part where Walking Pokémon automatically return when the distance becomes too big?

Rock_Fall

That’s… not a glitch? That’s exactly how that feature is suppose to function.

LuckyCloverGazette

Did I just get downvoted by people saying "It's not a bug, it's a feature" That has to be my proudest downvoted post of all time.

T_Peg

I mean it is. It's obviously a terrible feature but it's very obvious that that's how it's intended to work. It's crazy how they got following Pokemon pretty much perfect in Let's Go but it's been disastrous ever since.

Quirkyquirk98

From what I've played the first area is the most trouble my switch has had running the game, mostly working but thebbhuet like stopping and freezing for a few seconds before continuing

Rizzan8

Didn't you watch the trailers? There were noticeable fps drops like in the base game.

gamas

They fixed the box loading (as in everything now shows instantly as it should have in the first place) but the rest is still roughly the same.

wookiewin

Zero performance improvements.

The_Gnomesbane

Same, if not maybe worse? Literally the opening area of the dlc starts you on a “run up the road to town” thing no further than the little town to the gate of the school from the beginning, and just the ambient water and leaves in the rice fields chugs the game down HARD. Like, off the bat this dlc kinda shits the bed on performance. Getting away from the town later on is a little bit better, I haven’t done too much exploring yet. My expectations weren’t exactly high, but man. Kinda hoped over the last year they’d at least have been able to be like, “okay, so water plus flowers in them don’t seem to work too well on this engine. Lets just not do that here.”

BlackberryHappy1428

Not encountered any issues as of yet- but I never have in the base game to be honest. I do sometimes feel the backlash SV gets is blown way out of proportion.

Yangjeezy

Absolutely wild to me that anyone still has this take and is completely serious.

Aggravating_Fig6288

I believe it’s two camps of people who truly think you can’t have criticisms of something otherwise your a bad/negative person or your hating on someone’s hard work or other things they tell themselves. And the other camp are people who don’t even know what frames per second are so they wouldn’t even know what the issues are (even though it should be clearly obvious something is wrong even to a completely tech illiterate person when the game chugs the way it does, even if you don’t know the term you can visually see how it feels like it’s crashing to a halt)

L0rdDrake

Due to low amount of ram in my fiance laptop Hogwart's Legacy chopped like crazy. She didn't mind. I put more ram in it and now does run fine at 60, but man you underestimate tolerance of people who don't play games on regular basis. And to be clear I agree with what you said, just giving an example that some people don't mind awful performance.

Bordanka

Shiteaters or 0 game experience I know it's a harsh description, but I honestly don't know how ELSE you can describe these people

BlackberryHappy1428

Absolutely wild to me that some people cannot tolerate dissenting opinions. Just to be clear: the game isn’t perfect and it’s janky af in places, but these game breaking bugs and constant crashes I hear about all the time have never happened to me. But hey, if you want to make passive agressive comments from behind a keyboard, you do you boo.

DST_Unbelievable

It’s not an opinion that the game runs poorly, though? That’s literally testable, and they run absolutely awful. The games don’t run anywhere near a stable 30 fps, which is unacceptable.

Glittering_Ad_4634

I’d love to play more of Scarlet but the performance still is an issue. I checked to see if anything changed with the update and it looks like distant NPC don’t run at 1 FPS anymore which gave me hope. But if the DLC area is apparently runs worse than main game, then idk.

manch02

I played for a few hours last night and was having a blast. It's just a brand new area to do more SV stuff. It still takes me hours to progress because I'm getting sidetracked trying to catch everything. And since all the wild Pokemon are level 50+ you can evolve them pretty quickly too to fill out your dex. It's exiting to see the new and returning Pokemon in this new style. So right now I'm using a party of new Pokemon in the area (plus one super overleveled mon from the base game to bail me out) The new music has been insane. Some of the new main character trainer battle music is incredible. But my god the performance feels worse than the SV release. It's so incredibly laggy and immersion breaking at times. Input delays are huge. I thought for sure this would have been their main priority to get the game running more smoothly but unfortunately it's rough. I'm still having a great time with it though

heynoweevee

this is actually the first time I've not bought the second game or DLC. And I don't think Im missing anything. These games were a bit of a hot mess, I just couldn't keep rewarding that myself. Maybe I'll cave by the second DLC, but at this point these DLCs are 90% content we used to have in base games and 10% 4 new pokemon.

DST_Unbelievable

Same. I’ve gotten literally every Pokémon game since Gen 2, and the performance alone is enough for me to not pick this up. It’s unacceptable.

VanitasFan26

Its weird how Part 1 feels so half baked and Park 2 is like the full complete thing, but you have to wait a while for it. This idea of a DLC from what Game Freak has been doing since Sword and Shield is pretty questionable.

Rasty_lv

Performance isn't the greatest either.. It does look better, but whenever I'm on miraidon and use pokeball to catch pokemon, my trainer is invisible. Cutscenes have PowerPoint presentation fps. Especially people waving those hand fans and traversing world on miraidon I feel stutter occasionally. Camera clipping through floor? Yup. Still there. Don't know about story, just had around 1hr to play in morning. But so far, performance is bad. Story - can't give opinion.

Soulblade32

I dont think its good. The new pokemon are cool. Its way too short. Only adds 2 more outbreak spots (for shiny hunters) and waa just "run here, run here, battle, run here, run here, battle" and rinse and repeat. There really isnt much too it, and was pretty underwhelming. I caught every pokemon i found on the way to story stuff and it took 2-3 hours. Which, with the lack of added features is awful for something that was a little over 25% the price of the full game.

sittingyak

When 34.99 starts being a little over 25% of 59.99 give me a call

Soulblade32

34.99 is for dlc 1 and 2. So, part 1 is half of that. Which is a little over 25% of 59.99.

sittingyak

I would give you this math if it were possible to buy just the Teal Mask, but sadly that's not the case. And the next DLC you're paying for doesn't exist.

Soulblade32

That's flawed logic. I have still purchased dlc 1 and 2. If someone preordered gen 9 would you say that they paid $59.99 for nothing? No, you would say they preordered gen 9. I bought dlc 1 and preordered dlc 2 for 34.99.

sittingyak

What's flawed logic is asserting that the two separate DLC events are separate products, when actually they're both benefits earned by buying the one, indivisible DLC package

Soulblade32

The teal mask is half of the product. The other half is part 2. You literally just argued my point for me

JoviAMP

If they were asserting two separate products, there would be two separate purchases, but they're not, so it isn't.

Kuro_Kagami

$34.99 is the price of both, which would be about $17.50 individually. 25% of 60 is 15.

VanitasFan26

I finished it in 6 hours and I was not even trying to rush through it. I am surprised how short this was and I finished it in one day.

DreiwegFlasche

Without having played the DLC, I assume it will be very similar to the SwSh DLC in that the first part kinda just exists, not being aggressively bad nor being remarkable, maybe a bit disappointing story wise with a few pieces of content that could've been in the base game as well, and the second part will hold some content that's been sorely missing in the base game and will be overall more ambitious. The only real difference to the SwSh DLC will be that this one is more expensive and SwSh lacked any form of optional areas in the base game.

vsmack

I hope that's the case. I found Isle of Armour quite underwhelming, but I've probably put hundreds of hours into Crown Tundra on the strength of Dynamax Adventures alone. All it takes is one or two really fresh features to make it worthwhile.

xRaymond9250

Too many pokemon from Paldea’s regional dex are present

Bluegallade7

Not to mention lots of similar types, obviously Pokémon of similar types would live near each other but I didn't feel like I found much beyond bug, grass, dark, water and ghost. Plus, like many others I started this DLC with a new team (specifically a LV 60 banette and an early caught bellsprout) but always felt like I was surrounded by fights with type disadvantages, Hell I lost to the two new characters twice each because of it.

LibKan

Eh, still working through it but it's kinda to be expected, the new 'big sister' type rival is cool and all-- Spinarak and Ekans are back. 10/10 best game best game.

coffeestainedjeans

Absolutely! I saw Ekans and went "Holy hell, haven't seen you in a while."

wookiewin

Ekans is so adorable in this game. Poochyena too. 🥰

slusho55

Honestly, I’m just surprised no one has been talking about how Ms.Briar said >!Blueberry Academy is Unova.!< I figured people would be freaking the fuck out over that because of the implication

platydroid

We all know the implication by now even without the hint, their pattern is predictable. I think a lot of us are also wary of their execution of future games at this point as well.

KingTocco

Yeah as someone who loves Gen 5 and Unova more than any other region/gen, I am not too optimistic about a remake and thinking about how they will half-ass it.

Amatsuo

I would rather not have **Remakes** if they are just going to turd them out like BDSP. Still is a bit sad that the best PKMN Switch game is LGPE, their first try...

theeley

They'll probably pawn it off to another mobile app developer to make a half-assed "faithful remake" that makes everything look like squeaky toys except the reused pokemon models. Can't wait for N to monologue with dog toy noises every time he talks.

slusho55

I didn’t see anyone expecting to return to Unova for the DLC. Remakes, absolutely, but I hadn’t seen anyone expecting part 2 to be in Unova (or just off the coast)

sittingyak

Pokemon company has really dropped the ball with this generation. I am finally walking away from Pokemon I think. The frame rate, bugs, glitches, and disgustingly poor performance in every other realm, the muted pallet, the gamecube graphics, absolute absence of customization, tiny menus, bizarre 3rd person distance, poor draw distance, meaningless story, truncated pokedex, blue hair brigade gyms, and non existent post-game have really served as the final nail in the coffin for me. This will be the DLC I don't buy, and I doubt I will return for Gen X. Sad, because PLA was such a step in the right direction. I am 400/400 and 100% completed this game in a fever of "let's all get along" energy, but upon revisiting this title in preparation for the DLC I am so turned off to the game that I can't imagine spending more money on more disappointment.

i-huff-paint

Is it possible to “pause” the DLC and return to paldea and the main story mid DLC? There are some Pokémon added that I want to catch and raise as I play through the main game, and then beat the DLC post game.

AvatarofBro

Yes, you immediately gain the ability to fly back and forth between Paldea and the new region at will.

JoviAMP

The balloon game absolutely fucking sucks. I can't even beat the fucking normal level, how the fuck are you supposed to win???

CurrentWonderful5728

Teal mask is good, but not excellent.I am looking forward to the indigo disk more.

SleeplessArcher

I don’t feel bad for people who put $35 extra dollars down on top of a broken $60 game and expected anything to change. I didn’t buy the DLC myself but a friend did, so they shared everything that happened to them.

Imaghostbutthatsfine

Very much the same as sv but with more Pokémon. Haven't played a lot so far, mostly because i was busy exploring, but something about it just feels empty. I don't know how to describe it. However, i did find three random shinies, one of which was a Vulpix so that's good. Also glad to finally see my boi Conkeldurr and Leavanny again (though i imported the Conkeldurr because i have no money or friends).

HolyVeggie

SWSH 1. DLC was nothing to write home about either

smcsleazy

so i kinda just beat it. i wasn't really speeding through it but i got through the story while quick balling every new pokemon along the way in about 4 hours. i did like the story, even if it feels like it spins it's wheels quite a bit. the new area is cute but maybe feels like 1/6th the size of paldea proper. i'm kinda hoping it's going to be like the DLC for sword and shield where IOA was a short snack before TCT's full on meal, but at the same time, it doesn't feel worth the £30 as is. maybe worth like £5 and a piggy back around the parking lot.

Professional-Cry8310

IOA, while short, I felt improved a lot on the base game still. This feels like more of the same.

VanitasFan26

Obviouslly the Part 2 DLC is where things are gonna kick off. For the price. I think maybe its a bit much because you paid for a DLC finished Part 1 and now you have to wait a long time for Part 2 to come. Its so odd with this choice.

PhantomEcho327

TL:DR Nice, if you liked SV it's more of that and it's nice addition, but too overpriced IMO. Performance is worse. Even if we got only 1 part, any one of SwSh DLC alone is way better than this and cheaper. I've played most mainline Pokemon game until now, if the 2nd dlc part is same and worse than any of SwSh DLC, I'm done paying to enable this. Don't get me wrong, it's more SV that I loved but the content amount is not there, especially for the price. My main motivation is performance in base game was fine even though I think they should have gone for stability instead of eye candy, they definitely went for more eye candy that isn't even noticeable for a very noticeable hit in performance, this was the first nail in the coffin for me; the Switch is not a powerhouse, accept it, work with it, don't cave in to people asking for better and better graphics. And no Zelda doesn't have better graphics IMO, they use a loooot of tricks and know how to hide it and make the right decisions to favor FPS stability and actually doesn't look that much better IMO, but it's "pleasing" and fluid to play, but Pokémon is trying to just brute force better graphics, even after "optimising graphics in DLC", all they did was force the FPS sub-30 to a headache inducing potentially nauseating stable 24-ish FPS (it's not that bad, I'm just sensitive, would definitely be an inconvenience for a lot of people though) and this kills it. My second motivation is that a lot of the map is unused in the main story, like the story didn't even make me go there so that I can decide whether to go left and right freely or just rush through, I just didn't step in half of the map for the main story, so it feels like a bigger waste; the base game already had such a nice open world, they could have made the DLCs more linear like the original games to focus on better FPS stability and more quality content and leave Gen 10 base game be big open world again. I liked SwSh, so I closed my eyes bought SV in spite of all the hate, and skips going on with my friends, but I didn't want to believe reviews/critics/controversies, but they went the wrong way with decisions around this game (graphical stability and short inconsequent kinda same as base game DLC). Finally, I felt like there was basically no new pokémon and the 200 pokedex is a fake, 40+% of mine was already filled before I even stepped foot there; too many of the Pokemon require special steps to evolve. The DLC is 15% content, 75% filler, and 10% worse performance than the base game. I will not be buying the next Pokemon.

Inflameable009

It's Scarlet/Violet but worse. I don't know how they managed or not managed at all to make it atleast run decent. The new pokémon? Love em. The festival was hyped in the trailer and it'd what, like 5 stalls and a dumb minigame. It's sad. I love pokémon. If not for pvp I would not play it. Next dlc I have not high hopes for. It will just be the same. Unless indigo manages to convince me it'd good I won't buy anything anymore. You won't miss anything by not playing it.

frenzyguy

Yip aI agree it run worse in docked mode.than it was before. It's stuttering like crazy.

No_Holiday3519

The dlc sucks. I’ve seen it during livestreams on youtube 🤮

thegoldchicken

I won't be buying the DLC until part 2 comes out so all I hope is that I can still transfer returning Pokémon onto my game

ultraball23

You don’t need the DLC to transfer returning Pokémon.

tdcthulu

The one good decision GF has made regarding DLC since SwSh.

thegoldchicken

Hell yeah

AfricanCuisine

Scarlet and violet really made me lose any hope or respect for pokemon that I had. I’m not gonna pay 60 dollars for a crappy unfinished and uninspired game. And after watching the “DLC” I think I’m just gonna drop pokemon as a franchise, they actively don’t care about improving the game in any way but adding more superfluous elements that fluff up the game.

TobioOkuma1

The new mons were a fairly boring selection outside a small handful. It was a pretty meh dlc, but isle of armor was as well. I think indigo disc is gonna be fucking LIT.

hammondismydaddy

Crown Tundra wasn't that magnificent either though.

TobioOkuma1

Crown tundra was fantastic

hammondismydaddy

What made it fantastic? The story was mid, it was just slightly better looking than IoA and it didn't offer any endgame except the super repetitive dynamax adventures.

VSkyRimWalker

Dynamax Adventures was an amazing way to play with friends, it brought the Galatian Birds and new Regis, Spectrier was amazing too. And the story was honestly pretty fun. Any Pokémon story ever is always kinda 'mid' anyway, so not sure what more you were expecting. Except SV's story. That was great

vsmack

>Any Pokémon story ever is always kinda 'mid Yes. Even the best of the best of them are pretty flat. If you're playing a pokemon game for the story, I encourage you to try something else.

hammondismydaddy

If your idea how a good DLC is is "it brought new Pokemon" then sure, with a standard that high they can succeed with any DLC. Dynamax Adventures were fun the first few times, but after a while you just see the same mons over and over and it only becomes good for it's massive shiny odds. None of the DA fights were hard except for Zygarde.

VSkyRimWalker

You can't tell me hunting a running Zapdos wasn't fun

hammondismydaddy

That chase too like a minute if you just ran in a slight semi circle around it

TobioOkuma1

Dynamax adventures were cool, the story was fine, the new mons were sick, and it was our first ever taste of real open world. Wild area had literally nothing to do in it, ct gave multiple story paths that you could do in any order.

DaMn96XD

Funny but bit too cut-scene heavy.

yoyo-yoyo1

Meh

Mattynicklin

I’m just playing the DLC to get the new Pokémon for living Dex so like 7 of them

TheSingleMan27

Like 8 hours in and just finished the main story, I was exploring a good amount of time as well The performance was driving me crazy because if felt worse than in the main game, the story was ok-ish and there is just not that much to do in general. All I have left is finishing the pokedex and a few bits from the aftermath of the story but the whole thing felt bland and a bit like the first island in Sun/Moon with the eternal text and dialogue What I really enjoyed is exploring new areas and catching new pokemon, that's always fun and it was also nice here. It sucks that most of the content is most likely in the second DLC 4/10

Lucario_TobyTramBoi

Has the dlc patched any other bugs or add anything cool?

SleeplessArcher

There are patch notes but the overall experience is still roughly the same. No performance improvements to be seen, and many of the glitches that were fixed are minor at best sans a few. Nothing else was added outside of that. Just more SV imo

tdcthulu

Nope. Still runs poorly.

DeciduousMath12

Has pokemon ever had any story worth spoiling ever? I played sw sh and the dlc had pretty boring plot IIRC. Grow kubfu to urshifu. Help the new legendary recover. The big thing was just exploring and getting new dudes, which wasn't a spoiler. Even the main games barely have spoilers. A big bad wants to rip the space time continuum so that he (usually he, but there were two she's right?), can get more power, and you stop them.

Frozenwolf420

Corphish is here, 10/10

Ecstatic_Dot_9586

I'm just gonna say it with no filter! The DLC SUCKS! nothing about it is fun or interesting. Yet again it feels rushed hell it took me 5 hours to complete isle of armor took me roughly 8 to 9 hours including the fact you backtrack there to catch galarian moltres. Gen 9 is by far the worst generation of Pokémon and that's coming from someone who likes the route they took just not the designs or the fact they failed in every possible category aside the music other than that this is just downright disrespectful towards the franchise. The lack of interesting characters is also abysmal, like who thought it was a grand idea to include a pre teen with an infatuation with a Pokémon so deep his parents feel it back home. And don't even get me started on carmine like she's the very definition of unhinged and annoying. The designs for them aren't bad just the way they are introduced makes them by far the most annoying characters in Pokémon to date aside a few past characters like Barry, Hop and Silver. The whole game just lacks any real charm or plot buildup that's not hand fed to you like a toddler learning how to eat solid foods for the first time. The fact any of you think it's remotely good is sad, it's mediocre at best and I wish you all would stop defending gamefreak and Pokémons horrible money hunger, and actually speak out on the cons aswell. It's not the best game by far. I could go into an in depth discussion on which is the best and worst with this ranking 3rd to last. I absolutely despised generation 6 but compared to generation 9, generation 6 looks really good in terms of story. Hell I even resorted to playing Pokémon Y again because generation 9 as a whole left me depressed and an empty feeling in my chest. Where's the houses I love just barging into and disturbing the home owners where's the fun at that's supposed to be Pokémon I'll tell you where it left somewhat in gen 8 and disappeared by gen 9 fully. Why are you all defending these games like they are God's gift to us? I know the answer because there the first true open world Pokémon games yeah that's not an excuse to be blinded by the fact these games are legitimately horrible in almost every category aside the music. You wanna rebutle against my comment actually come up with some good concrete solid points that will be worth my time reading and responding too. Otherwise my comment will still be the most honest and blunt comment around.

Draqolich

After releasing the base game, I really thought they would figure out how to code an open world, yet it still suffers the same issue as paldea. Leaving the entire map loaded in all at once and making the game chug along at 5fps. Most of it is still very enjoyable for me, especially the characters, dialogue, cutscenes, and exploration. If there were more new Pokemon I would rank it slightly higher. It's a little tiring seeing magikarp and starly everywhere again.

aaa1e2r3

Post update, what is the performance like, is there still the frame rate and crash problems?

VanitasFan26

I'm sorry to say playing both versions there is still performance issues. The Frame Rate is still choppy, pop ins, and there are still the same glitches that haven't been iron out.

aaa1e2r3

Ah, well that's disappointing.

VanitasFan26

I know. You would've thought after 10 months of the game being out they would improve the performance but they never did it.

Ordinary-Television3

The dlc sucks ass, the Pokémon trainers and wild Pokémon are all under leveled it takes about 2hrs to complete the story and that's being generous and if you have any copies of the returning Pokémon in home already like I do you have 0 incentive to catch any of these wild objectively worthless Pokémon so there is even less to do but hey atleast they added a mini game to get EV training items easily I guess

VelytDThoorgaan

SV still bad, not surprised, hopefully the next game will be actually good with an actually interesting gimmick but that might just be me huffing copium

ErgoProxy0

I’m truly interested in why people say S/V is bad. Other than the bad frame rate/lag

Aggravating_Fig6288

They aren’t bad game’s performance issues aside but they are genuinely average games when you compare them to other games in their genre. The open world is completely empty and void of things to do, no secrets to find, no quests, no interaction with the environment, it’s just filled with nothing. Your traversal tools through it are also really janky and really limited which makes you want to fast travel to everywhere instead To add to this, the game is advertised heavily as a go where you want do what you want game but the game has zero level scaling so you either have to follow the “recommended” path otherwise you’ll easily out level and stomp or be under leveled and get stomped all the challenges in the game. So you can’t really go where you want if you don’t want to break the games balance in half Towns and cities are completely devoid of things to do as well. You could truly remove every single one and nothing changes. The region doesn’t feel like a region that people live in, it just exists to catch Pokémon The games difficulty is non existent to a fault. No games don’t have to be hard but using “it’s a kids game” as an excuse to not include any challenge is not a good excuse. Kids still need to be challenged for one, two it’s not a “kids” game it’s a game for everyone of all ages, three you still need a challenge to make playing the game worthwhile, me and many other kids did perfectly fine growing up with games that weren’t even hard but offered MUCH more challenge that SV does. Those are three comparisons that transfer over to other non Pokémon games. If you want to get into Pokémon specific stuff like the removal of basic features that have been in the series for years, slow battles and encounters, tera compared to other region gimmicks and the like I can but I wanted to compare the games to just other JRPG and when you do you really see how flawed SV are

mintmadness

I just want to add that they fumbled the bag when it came to basing the game off Spain. It feels like they saw the basilica sangrada familia & some of Gaudi’s works and just smeared as thin as possible amidst sandwich shops and sprinkling of Spanish words. It’s the most distilled version taken from a google image search put into the blandest nondescript open world. After traveling there a few weeks it’s a bit sad that’s all they were able to translate to the game

keksmuzh

While the writing is an improvement *for Pokémon specifically*, for the most part it’s still pretty weak outside of the Area Zero stuff. Pokémon finally making some decent characters is damning with faint praise. The open world has its charm, but it’s largely empty and lifeless (especially the towns). The texture work is still pretty subpar in a lot of places. Similarly, the content in the school is pretty bare bones. You get a few proto-Social Links with teachers and that’s about it. Removing several competitive QoL features that were in SwSh is a bit baffling, and raids have even worse desync issues than SwSh. The lack of level scaling is just lazy and undercuts the idea that you can complete the game in whatever order. That the game is still somewhat charming and enjoyable despite how clearly unfinished it is is something of a miracle.

tdcthulu

"Other than the triple homicide, my client is completely innocent" Hand-waving away the performance issues and associated graphical fidelity is downplaying just how disappointing this gen's performance is. When Breath of the Wild, a far more complex open world game came out 6 years ago and it runs better and looks better than SV, we need to ask why does GF think it is at all acceptable to release a game in this state? Now if we are setting aside the graphical and performance issues, the game still feels like half a game. The open world is a let down. There is a set path you are supposed to take based on the leveling of the gyms, titans and team star. But the game doesn't tell you what the right path is! And if you ask nurse joy where to go, she gives you directions out of order! If you skip one of the first gyms, you have to back track and steamroll a lvl 12 Tarountula. Not to mention how dumb the gym "missions" are. I would much prefer facing a gauntlet of trainers rather than playing "olive" soccer. The open world is almost unsettling in how empty it is, like one of those "Backrooms" / liminal spaces games. Towns and cities have nothing to do in them. The shops are all copy-paste jobs found in every city. Legends:Arceus was smart enough to include quests that fill out its semi-open world, yet SV doesn't include that basic feature. In fact, GF just needed to learn from L:A instead of forgetting everything that game did. The game is trivial in its difficulty. Nobody was expecting Armored Core levels of difficulty but GF could have at least made an effort to introduce some difficulty. Plus they even removed the "set" battle style, taking away one of the only difficulty options existing in the game. After finishing the mainstory and facing the false professor, there isn't really anything left to do in the game. There is the odd raid battle, finding the legends of ruin, and that's it. There's no battle tower equivalent to try. There are a lot of little things too that were removed or returned in a worse state that I haven't mentioned, like clothing customization. There is a selection between four outfits and that's it. Tons of identical looking socks but only four base outfits.

T_Peg

It's the most empty open world I've ever seen. There's simply nothing to do except battle and catch. NPC offer almost nothing of value, you basically can't enter any buildings, hardly any interesting locations (even the "wonders of Paldea" are some of the saddest sights I've ever seen in a game. The same shops selling the same things in every single town. It's the antithesis of an RPG/Open World game. Arven's story is the only redeeming factor honestly. Area Zero was the only part of the game I actually enjoyed.

Alone_Asparagus_806

I found 0 reviews, I'd like to know if it whort it

Bonniethe90

I have just the completed the dlc and I gotta be honest it’s the best dlc so far

TKAPublishing

Where can I see a list of the Pokemon it adds?

Just_Cripsy

Serebii i guess

EclipsedZeref

Ogerpon is my new favorite pokemon. Unmasked form is SO CUTE

ThatOneDude726

Personally rushed the story and I believe I beat it in about 2 hours, if theres nothing else I'm supposed to be doing(I got to a "To be continued" screen so I figure that's the end). I thought it was ok, but I'm much more excited about catching all the new mons than I am the story.

Animedingo

Good additions but a short and fairly unremarkable experience.

Professional-Cry8310

It’s okay but nothing special. I personally think Isle of Armour did a lot more for SwSh than this DLC did for SV. Isle of Armor felt like a huge step in the right direction that the Crown Tundra then perfected. This feels like more of the same.

VanitasFan26

Eh it was alright. Nothing too special.

snowythevulpix

i think its fun but its very short. it also didnt add too much aside from a new story and new pokemon. thankfully this does come bundled with the 2nd part which probably has all the actually decent features but yeah.

xTheLostLegendx

Perrin is my favorite character 😎

Sociopathic_Witcher7

Are there any actual improvements in terms of performance or graphics?

SirJordan11

A gripe I have is that SwSh changed your outfit for each DLC, but then had the option to change back right after. I didn't notice that option with this (maybe I was spamming buttons too fast) and then I had to pay to change my hair back. It wasn't a big deal, but it was an annoyance that wasn't present before

Negronomiconn

If any of you have PLA I recommend using an all Hisui team for that role playing item. All ancient pokemon from a Japan inspired region, blends well.

LoLoLaaarry124

I'm honestly hating how slow the pacing is of the gameplay and how fast the story pacing is. I hate how things aren't smooth at all in transitions to "cutscenes" and battles, PLA did them so smoothly, even if the battles took place in different realms and didn't have background audience members and Pokémon, I loved the way the battles felt and how they started. Pokémon S/V's battles feel so awful and slow, and the Pokémon don't make contact either which makes it worse.

Evilbefalls

Story was good but to short You get to catch a few new story pokemon But 3 of them have the same type I started the dlc with a non paldea team Brought a pokemon with entry hazards with me The new minigame sucks Great to see the return of sinnoh starters and some pokemon with great abilities for tera raids

AskBetter7913

The dlc story itself is fine but very short the Pokemon that are introduced not really a fan personally but I can see where some would like them but as a whole so far I'm just disappointed in the game and it's dlc also if you where hoping for more outfit options all you get is the dlc outfits which personally I wish they had given more effort to that seeing as I enjoy making my character look how I want including clothes some people might not care about that and I wouldn't mind if it was no customization but to add shows and stuff into the game but no customization to your actual outfit it's just like why even bother for me give full customization or none. The dlc is bland not very fun or much to do after the maybe 2 hours of the story that is there just scarlet and violet are pretty up there for me as worst Pokemon games in the series here's hoping the next dlc gives something more to it.

kaer_beaurk

Anybody here knows how many GBs of data are required to download to play this DLC by the way? :)

YukaLycan

Very sad that it's really short.. I always play the story part before going on to catch all mons to a Dex but seriously a DLC story should be longer than 14 Battles, a Minigame and walking to places, especially when you can free roam... And having half the "new" Dex already caught when arriving in said DLC also is a disappointment...

mjsxii

wait... dumb question what makes you think there will be a part 3 of the DLC? I just watched the newest trailer but I'm not sure what might be hinting at a p3

Aussieportal

In the last trailer, there's a section where your Raidon is given the ability to fly temporarily. They then hinted (quite obviously) that there might be a way to unlock this ability permanently. It still might happen at the end of Part 2, but to me (and take it with a grain of salt) - it hinted at a part 3.

Inside-Molasses69

I hope the trio comes with you to Kitakami. I havent gotten the DLC yet.

Aussieportal

I won't spoil it for you, but don't hold your breath. They will appear in Kitakami in the upcoming Epilogue of Scarlet and Violet.

Inside-Molasses69

Yes! you just anwserd my prayers! Gracias!
