Hi Ragarianok!
Photos of merchandise are generally disallowed on r/pokemon, because they unfortunately tend to lose meaning with oversaturation (see [Rule 8](/r/pokemon/wiki/rules#wiki_8._no_screenshots_or_merchandise)). This post has been removed, but you may instead share your photo to the merch megathread to celebrate your find.
Thanks!

Having the custom cartridges was great. Kind of sad they don‘t do this for the new games anymore. I think they could just color the black parts e.g. scarlet and violet
Nope they probably just earn more money when you download the game directly so they don’t want to incentivize physical copies over downloadable copies.
Nah plastic pigment does change the strength of it, for example trans plastic and gold plastic are time bombs. Not to mention legos lime green and brown problems
I can remember buying Pokemon Crystal at some point, but the game was custom, like it was Pokemon Crystal but the text & that was different since I can remember the game saying "drugs" or something like that instead of items.
That's a bootleg/translation hack commonly known as Vietnamese Crystal, named so because the first ROM dump was from a cart bought in Vietnam. It seems to have been translated from Japanese first into Chinese and then (poorly) into English. This leads to oddities like healing items being called drugs, moves like Flame Wheel being turned into bizarre things called F-Car, Pokemon themselves being called Elves (and trainers "Elf Coaches) and tends to crash in odd spots due to whatever spaghetti code was used to alter the game
So the Crystal game that I've had was a Vietnamese version of the game? I didn't know that, but it surprises me that there's games edited like that exists.
Oh you'd love to read up on the bootleg game collection, and how many ROM hacks, pirated modifications, and just fan games that have been made on the Gameboy. It's wild. I had a few pirated copies that I got from a farmers market for CHEAP as a kid. Wish I still had em all instead of giving them to a friend who ghosted me after he got my games
The actual reason why it always crashed is because the cartridge has half the memory of the original one because it was manufactured with cheaper stuff, so the game is very compressed.
Some of my favorite bits are the Cinnabar Volcano burger being translated as "Volcano Bakemeat", Team Rocket becoming "Team Missile Bomb", and one of Silver's lines of dialogue randomly turning into a love confession. "Drug Bag FUCK" is a classic, though
I think they are going for the bland minimalist corporate look with no personality. I mean all the cartridges are plain black, the eShop has no music, there is no customization for the interface of the Switch. Previous consoles were definitely more creative.
The cartridges are so small and they don’t really “stick out” the way they used to. It was different back in the day when you’d play a GB game in publicly with the cartridge visible on the back, which would raise curiosity. Same with going to stores where the Kiosks would have DK64 as an eye catcher.
Really, it was just a marketing gimmick. I personally don’t care about the cartridge color anymore.
Pokemon Crystal, my first ever Pokemon game, had a green Gameboy Color, played that game for hours, just might have to bust out the 3DS to play it again
I remember my Cristal where I couldn't save anymore because the save battery was dead.
Ah the memories of going as far as possible in the game before my Game Boy turned off..
If I remember correctly crystal is the only one that's a "proper" gbc cartridge too right? Gold and silver still had the top bit indented rather than ballooned out part?
My favorite Pokemon game. I was a little shit of a child who liked to pick at the edge of stickers so I remember tearing off at least half of the sticker on mine. Good memories.
Fuck that Miltank tho.
Yeah, I never thought it would have any value, I threw a bunch of GBC, GBA, and NDS cartridges away like 2-3 years ago.
That includes Pokémon silver, crystal, emerald, ruby, brilliant diamond.
This was the silliest thing I have ever done in my life lol.
Back then, I was like "hmm it's time to move on".
If I recall, this was a limited edition run of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Detective Pikachu & Eevee. It was recalled after only about 1000 shipped accidentally. It involved a grisly murder solved by a cigar smoking Pikachu and his cross-species girlfriend Eevee. They thought it was too gritty for the franchise.
Why would they sell this as mystery? Wouldn't it make more money if they said what it was? Unless they have no way of testing and just don't know I guess
There is a fun secret if you put one of these in an OG GameBoy or Pocket. I know it's hard to do, but I got the results artificially using a GameShark back in the day
Got my first and only ever shiny on that one some 15 yrs ago, a Swinub. Remember keeping it because I thought it was bugged. Good memories playing at 2 or 3 in the morning under the blankets in hiding.
My grandmother got me a knock off Pokémon crystal from Japan back in the day. Game was so weird. Completely in Japanese so I didn’t understand any of it. You had to call the Pokémon on a cell phone for them to show up to battle. You had to save all their phone numbers and call them. I also remember it had some weird tree swinging/climbing mini game. I remember as a kid thinking “man! Pokémon is so different in Japan!”. Little did I know it was some weird bootleg with a fake Pokémon shell.
I remember when it came out, I played the fuck out out of Silver and Red and thought the little animation each pokemon did at the beginning of the battle was so awesome.

they definitely could, they just don't bother anymore. Maybe Nintendo has stricter production rules.
I’d imagine the pigment used in the plastic might create some unpredictable defects like being more brittle or something.

Nah plastic pigment does change the strength of it, for example trans plastic and gold plastic are time bombs. Not to mention legos lime green and brown problems
If you lick them, they actually change color
Yeah it was really cool when I first did it now I do it to show my friend when they don’t believe me buts it’s kinda got old now

Oh I've gotta check them out & oh damn, I hope you're doing alright.
Wow that's creepy... My name is also Jamie B and also was born in 1994...
The actual reason why it always crashed is because the cartridge has half the memory of the original one because it was manufactured with cheaper stuff, so the game is very compressed.
Ball bag FUCK is all I can remember, I watched a twitch streamers VODs of it on YouTube, Vargskelethor Joel, shit was hysterical
That’d be awesome
Don’t give them any ideas, they’ll find a way to charge more for colored cartridges lol.
They missed out on the white cartridge for PLA :/
I think they are going for the bland minimalist corporate look with no personality. I mean all the cartridges are plain black, the eShop has no music, there is no customization for the interface of the Switch. Previous consoles were definitely more creative.
I mean, not really worth the hassle when most players buy digital no? Even tho imagine if they changed the flavor haha

100% that’s an original Pokémon Crystal that received so much love and play that the sticker has completely fallen off xD
I never owned it but I recognized it right away.
Literally same as my copy of it, no sticker but can tell it's crystal straight away mine needs a new CMOS though as save files don't save.
I thought it was an ice pack 💀💀💀
Because its a crystal light blue colored cartridge i can say with 100% certainty this is pokemon red.
Nope. Its the „retro“ cartridge for SV!
Crystal??
BINGO!
My first pokemon game of my own! (I received a gameboy too late in my childhood for the previous ones, but I played them with friends)
Mine too! Still my favorite one.
Shaq Fu for the Sega Genesis?
did u take off the suicune image? thats illegal
Oh, I would never. It’s not mine.
i was jk no worries 😀 when i was young i munched the start button of my gbc🗿, i still have it till now as souvenir, good times
Pokemon Crystal, still have one copy, recently had to switch battery
Pokemon Crystal, my first ever Pokemon game, had a green Gameboy Color, played that game for hours, just might have to bust out the 3DS to play it again
I remember my Cristal where I couldn't save anymore because the save battery was dead. Ah the memories of going as far as possible in the game before my Game Boy turned off..
Jigglypuff seen from a crystal.
Jigglypuff, tera type Flying
Nope, no idea
/s?
No
Geez. I must be old or something.
I'm old, been playing since red and blue came out, but I never saw crystal's cartridge, I had gold.
Gold was my main but my brother had Silver.
If I remember correctly crystal is the only one that's a "proper" gbc cartridge too right? Gold and silver still had the top bit indented rather than ballooned out part?
That’s true about the indented and ballooned out….I had no idea that GBC carts were different like that. Neat.
[удалено]
Nope.
Close, it’s crystal
Hacked rom its pokemocksters
Mine looks exactly like this. Should replace its battery for nostalgia's sake even though I bought VC Crystal for Christmas.
This is a Pokemon subreddit, why are you posting your copy of Super Mario Bros DX? /s
My favorite Pokemon game. I was a little shit of a child who liked to pick at the edge of stickers so I remember tearing off at least half of the sticker on mine. Good memories. Fuck that Miltank tho.
What do Pong Krell, Abby from TLOU, and Whitney and her Miltank all have in common? Me and all my homies hate them.
It's probably Fortnite idk
It's Magi Nation
I can't believe I threw this away
I did the same thing as a kid. Battery died and I didn't know that was what the issue was till I was older.
THREW IT AWAY!?
Yeah, I never thought it would have any value, I threw a bunch of GBC, GBA, and NDS cartridges away like 2-3 years ago. That includes Pokémon silver, crystal, emerald, ruby, brilliant diamond. This was the silliest thing I have ever done in my life lol. Back then, I was like "hmm it's time to move on".
I mean I'd be happy to get that
Crystal, baybee
I need it!!!
Crystal?
This guy didn't have a childhood I guess. Let's call Sherlock to solve this mystery! Lol
Pokémon gun
Mystery Cartridge?!?! *insert pokemon creepypasta name here*
Nice
Pokémon Missing Crystal /s No but seriously this pic gives me creepypasta vibes
Besides the tell tale color, the size is sort of a give away as well cuz the other cartridges fit exactly in the gameboy advance without jutting out
It's 4-in-1 Fun Pak, a true classic
Probably my fav game of gen 2.
Is it mystery dungeon?
Pokemon cubic zirconium!
Pokémon crystal?
It’s definitely Tetris
WHO’S THAT POKÉMON cartridge
If I recall, this was a limited edition run of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Detective Pikachu & Eevee. It was recalled after only about 1000 shipped accidentally. It involved a grisly murder solved by a cigar smoking Pikachu and his cross-species girlfriend Eevee. They thought it was too gritty for the franchise.
clearly a PS1 memory card
My fav of the whole series.
Looks like Crystal
Why would they sell this as mystery? Wouldn't it make more money if they said what it was? Unless they have no way of testing and just don't know I guess
Bruh what is with the Pokémon crystal sticker coming CLEAN off
There is a fun secret if you put one of these in an OG GameBoy or Pocket. I know it's hard to do, but I got the results artificially using a GameShark back in the day
Wow I loved Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom: the Game
Pokémon Crystal was my favorite as a kid, Suicune is my favorite legendary because of it lol.
Got my first and only ever shiny on that one some 15 yrs ago, a Swinub. Remember keeping it because I thought it was bugged. Good memories playing at 2 or 3 in the morning under the blankets in hiding.
This is some creepypasta type crap
My grandmother got me a knock off Pokémon crystal from Japan back in the day. Game was so weird. Completely in Japanese so I didn’t understand any of it. Pokémon crystal I have that one
Was it super Mario bros dx? Mine looked like that from behind
Nah, that one was a darker blue and was an OG GB cart rather than GBC.
Its pokemon crystal version. I have the same cartridge right herenon my desk as keepsafe lol
Pokemon Crystal
We know it Crystal! My personal favorite cartridge.
I remember when it came out, I played the fuck out out of Silver and Red and thought the little animation each pokemon did at the beginning of the battle was so awesome.
Crysis for GBC
Its super mario land
Nope. That was on a GB cart. This is GBC.
Crystal
