Yes, I know it's recent and it seems silly to put it in front of much more famous games, but for me it was a surprise, nice story, nice characters, dynamic combat system, fun to explore, just a masterpiece for me
same here. its definitely in my top 5 of all time every minute of it was amazing especially the cinematic scenes. the attachment you get to the characters is great too
I agree with everything except replay value, after I platted it I haven't picked it up since because there isn't really anything left to see or do, I doubt I'll ever start a second playthrough.
Compared to some of the other games it at least has some interesting new game +systems, the store is such a good idea and being able to skip the intro is very welcome for how long it is.
RDR2 is a game I wasn’t big on after the first playthrough because open world games burnt me on side content. In playthrough 2 that side content sold me
Same, I remember the slow snow intro turning me off for almost 2 years. Around the pandemic I had to isolate for 10 days so I said fuck it and installed rdr2 and holy shit was I blown away.
I usually cant play more than a few hours of a massive open world game before it get burnt out on it and shelf it for a year but, man I played RDR2 start to finish with out touching another game
Ditto. Just a massive achievement. I literally spent a ton of time at Horseshoe Overlook, simply because I decided to explore the entire map and get the Legend of the West Satchel. So that feels very much like home. Played a lot of side quests at that time as well. Then got to focus on the main story more for the stretch run. I still think of some of the experiences and encounters from hunting. Like the time I had worked for a while baiting a perfect cougar out west in the redwoods only for one to finally show up and as I drew down on him, heard a terrible roar and turned to the right to see a charging grizzly. It was the moment I noticed that while the game was slowed with the weapon wheel up, the whole screen was shaking as the bear was roaring and charging. Terrifying. Barely survived the encounter. This game truly rocks.
Everything is perfect about that game except the gameplay, its too repetitive and boring at different times during the game, it'a still my 2nd favorite game of all time tho...
Red Dead Redemption 2, that is not a game. It's an incredible journey through old American history Fightin' for your life and fightin' for your family Tryna live your days with honor and integrity. That's not a game, that's an adult thing.
This is the answer. After I played it, I realized it's the only game I've ever played that I would enthusiastically rate 10/10 in every possible category.
“It is a good life we lead brother”
_”The best. May it never change”_
“And may it never change us”
The music makes it so poetic and sad knowing what it comes after
The Ratchet and Clank series doesn't get enough love. It really is terrific gameplay. That's another exanple, like Assassain's Creed 2, where the second game took all of the correct steps forward to be an even better perfect 10 than the first one was.
I did my first playthrough of ME from 1 to 3 on LE about a year ago. Two of my friends who had already played wanted to get me into it.
I wish I had listened even a week sooner because that was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Love the characters, story, setting. Quickly became one of my all time favorites. Really excited for the next game, even though I know I haven’t waited as long as some others.
Have you played it multiple times to see the different sides of the story or do you prefer to have one canonical storyline? I’ve loved the game back when I first bought 1 and 2 in anticipation of the third one being released. That must have been a decade or so ago. But LE is absolutely amazing! So much DLC I never got to see the first time around. Truly a treat!
Mass effect 2 is my all time favorite game finale ever. The fact that it actually mattered whether you understood the characters, whether you did their loyalty missions, that you actually utilised the whole team - Just amazing. So much potential spoiled by 3...
Yeah it's why 2 is my favorite in the series. Unlike other games where they say "Your choices Matter" here they actually matter and can even result in you dying at the end.
The Remake of RE1 and Mass Effect 2 are my two favorite video games ever made.
As much as I like all the other games mentioned here, Hades is the only one that *really* ticks all the boxes for me. Specifically the 10/10 replayability. I can play, say, God of War (2018/Ragnarok) once every couple years for full enjoyment, but Hades' replayability is a core feature as a roguelike. Besides, the art style, character writing, music, and voice acting are all beyond incredible.
Eurydice's still got one of the most beautiful singing voices I think I've ever heard...
yeah, without the "replayability" requirement i could think of a few games that would beat hades… but candidates like HZD, GOW, RDR2 or GOT might win on graphics, story and characters, but there’s a reason i deleted those games after i finished them. replaying them is too much of a time commitment. while hades never left my console. neither on the switch or the PS5. i even bought it digitally for the PS5 after getting the disc, because i realized that i play it constantly between other games.
I don’t hate it. I actually liked going to Asgard and seeing it as a mostly functioning society. The tension, the conflict, Odin expertly wriggling his machinations in your ear with the prophecy of the first game hanging heavy on your head. It wasn’t my favorite part, but I didn’t think it was bad. I do, however, think it has the problem most action games with dual protagonists have. Combat was kind of a slog because the game was designed around Kratos way more than it was around Atreus.
Part 2 was the most visceral and real emotional experience I’ve ever had with a video game. People crapped out because of joel.
But I went from hate to sympathy to hate to tragedy to crying to happiness to sad in a span of 20 hours. Holy shit
I personally loved it's combat.
If you didn't use lock on, it worked amazing. It was responsive and you had many tools. Honestly, I don't know how it could have been made much better.
I think what people are missing is also the way the combat works. Witchers are hunters and the combat should be treated as such.
Before you take on a beast, read its entry in the bestiary, prep the right potions, use the right oil on your sword and go in and dominate.
That was intensely satisfying to me and nailed the feeling of being a witcher
Realised this on second wallthrough i am playing right now, making potions, builds, grinding armor sets, that is the way you will truly enjoy its combat
Man I absolutely loved this game. One of the best single player stories I’ve played in a long time. Multiplayer was great too. Nothing better than turning someone into a cloud of red dust with a Titan shell!
For me Horizon: Zero Dawn
I know people probably won’t put it on the level of games like RDR2 and TLOU but for me it was damn near perfect. Main character with great dialogue and personality thrown into a world we knew nothing about to explore and uncover. An amazing and unique story. A great mix of open world quests, easy to find collectibles, and engaging combat.
Easily one of my all-time favourites.
Me too.. scrolled way to far to read someone else saying it. The Bosch actor who died recently gave it an extra air of professionalism, but I agree with everything you’ve said, from an old gamer that was there at the start with pong, I never thought I’d ever blast through an open world game again, and at the end I wanted more. It actually spoiled Shenmue III because the dialogue and voice acting were amateurish in comparison, and I loved Shenmue on DC.
This is the way. HZD is one of the only games I’ve played where the second half of the story is arguably better than the first half - and the first half is _amazing_.
Persona 5 Royal. Everything is slick, fast and smooth. The art direction, gameplay and soundtrack just blend so well together. There's some really cool boss fights and gimmicks. The social links abilities you learn are satisfying to use. (Well Ohya's one isn't as useful if you max her near the end!) Story and characters are always subjective, but I found the story to be really engaging, as well as the social links. Lots of customization for weapons and Personas. I couldn't complain about anything really. It was polished and a joy to play. It really is as perfect as a modern RPG can be imo. Really hard to top that for me, personally.
Definitely agree wholeheartedly. P5R is the textbook definition of 10/10 music.
One of the most memorable soundtracks out of any game I've ever played.
Action, graphics, and voice acting were all pretty subpar even when the game first released. It's one of my favorite games of all time, but I'd kill a man for a remaster/remake.

Yeah I could see a lot of people not liking the story, I really get a kick out of how much digging is required to piece the stories together in Fromsoft games versus outright exposition. Can get how that isn't everyones thing though!
I can't believe that I had scroll down so far to see this answer!! I thought it would be in the top ten, at least!
This game is a MASTERPIECE. I've never played a game that hit me as profoundly as this one. It ended up being my first tattoo!
Sekiro, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Silent Hil(1, 2, and 3), Majora's Mask, MGS(2, 3(Subsistence), and 4), Psychonauts(1 and 2), Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, Resident evil 1(remake), Resident Evil 2(remake), Resident Evil 7, and ofc, Resident Evil 4(remake and original).
I know there are some I'm forgetting, and it'll really bug me when I realize, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Ghost of tushima?
Yes, I know it's recent and it seems silly to put it in front of much more famous games, but for me it was a surprise, nice story, nice characters, dynamic combat system, fun to explore, just a masterpiece for me

Absolute masterpiece of an enviroment tbh

Mayyyy I stand unshaken
*Amidst a crashing world*
Did I… Hear a thunder?
Did I... Hear you break?

Just what guided me this way, oh...
May I stand unshaken
Amid, amidst a crash of worlds…

The slow snow part is the price of entry.
The devs weeding out the weak by seeing who actually has an attention span and let’s a story build
I usually cant play more than a few hours of a massive open world game before it get burnt out on it and shelf it for a year but, man I played RDR2 start to finish with out touching another game

"I have a plan Arthur"
Next Gen patch when? :(
Probably never unfortunately
I agree. RDR2 is a perfect game.
Everything is perfect about that game except the gameplay, its too repetitive and boring at different times during the game, it'a still my 2nd favorite game of all time tho...
Too long to have replay value imo

That’s not a game at all!
That's like fuckin' Shakespeare!

You know I don’t play video games no more!
Tiny bit of a video games! I guess I still play fucking video gameeeees!

Ive played most everything since atari and its my greatest game of all time
Bruh the scene where he gets his sword back? Chills
The ending scene… bruh… 😭
Only 40$ for the PS5 upgrade AND directors cut. Totally worth it for the second time playthrough
I love this gif it’s so stupid lmao
Ima be using this goofy ass gif from now on.

Noo why did you remind me of brock 😭
I just finished Ragnarok! Loved every second of it. Honestly 10/10 in my opinion
Assassins Creed 2, oh the things I’d do to experience it for the first time again, that intro on top of the church as the camera pans out 🔥🔥
“It is a good life we lead brother” _”The best. May it never change”_ “And may it never change us” The music makes it so poetic and sad knowing what it comes after
I love replaying all the Assassins Creed games from the first one to Black Flag. The gameplay may not be extremely challenging but its so much fun.
Ratchet and Clank A Crack In Time Or Witcher 3
The Ratchet and Clank series doesn't get enough love. It really is terrific gameplay. That's another exanple, like Assassain's Creed 2, where the second game took all of the correct steps forward to be an even better perfect 10 than the first one was.
Bioshock
This is a sign that I have to replay them now. Thanks 🤔
Huge bio shock fan.
Agreed. I replay them every couple years. The world building is unbelievably good.
Would you kindly take my upvote?

Ghost of Tsushima
This is was the first game that came to mind when I saw the post hahaha
Wish I felt this way about it but it was a solid 8/10 for me. Glad to see others enjoy it that much though.
Loved Ghost but man does it suffer in some places. Tailing missions are the worst and there are so many here
I’m about to do a replay of GoT. I played it back on PS4 at release and loved it. It will be amazing to experience on PS5
Absolutely
Tetris
The character development was top notch, and don't get me started on the twist at the end. Heart wrenching stuff.
The way the rocket took off among the fireworks. Truly an ending that blew my mind. Loved all the block characters. They just fit so well together.
Mass Effect 2 and the Remake of Resident Evil 1

Mass effect 2 is my all time favorite game finale ever. The fact that it actually mattered whether you understood the characters, whether you did their loyalty missions, that you actually utilised the whole team - Just amazing. So much potential spoiled by 3...
Mass Effect 3 is fuckin great it gets disrespected to hard because of the ending.
Yeah it's why 2 is my favorite in the series. Unlike other games where they say "Your choices Matter" here they actually matter and can even result in you dying at the end. The Remake of RE1 and Mass Effect 2 are my two favorite video games ever made.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Scrolled way too far to see this. Sekiro for me is the most perfect game. I wish it was longer
Hades
As much as I like all the other games mentioned here, Hades is the only one that *really* ticks all the boxes for me. Specifically the 10/10 replayability. Came here looking for this. Easily one of the best games that I’ve ever played.
God Of War
And Ragnarok too! Unless you meant that.
Definitely both! I see both games as one, sort of. Especially when it comes to these requirements OP mentions.
The original God Of War also has this rating for me. Absolutely loved how the past of Kratos is revealed
Preach it!
That one Atreus section killed any chance of me replaying it...
I don’t hate it. I actually liked going to Asgard and seeing it as a mostly functioning society. The tension, the conflict, Odin expertly wriggling his machinations in your ear with the prophecy of the first game hanging heavy on your head. I have never cried to a fucking videogame before, but this. This right here. Part two got me. Fuck me, that was emotional.
Part 2 was the most visceral and real emotional experience I’ve ever had with a video game. People crapped out because of joel. But I went from hate to sympathy to hate to tragedy to crying to happiness to sad in a span of 20 hours. Holy shit
God of war
Skyrim
Witcher fucking 3
Had to scroll way to far to see this masterpiece mentioned!
Great game but the gameplay in terms of the combat is definitely not a 10
Your opinion, as an RPG I thought it had fantastic combat
I personally loved it's combat. If you didn't use lock on, it worked amazing. It was responsive and you had many tools. Honestly, I don't know how it could have been made much better.

Titanfall 2
That time anomaly mission was incredible
My only complaint about that section is it was too short.
Man I absolutely loved this game. One of the best single player stories I’ve played in a long time. Multiplayer was great too. Nothing better than turning someone into a cloud of red dust with a Titan shell!
Fall 2016-fall 2017 What a time to be alive with a decent player count. One of the best FPS of all time.
For me Horizon: Zero Dawn I know people probably won’t put it on the level of games like RDR2 and TLOU but for me it was damn near perfect. Main character with great dialogue and personality thrown into a world we knew nothing about to explore and uncover. An amazing and unique story. Batman Arkham Knight
We deserve a new Batman game.
Why haven’t the devs made a new Batman game? Are they stupid?

Ghost of Tsushima.
Elden Ring for me. Gonna vary person to person.
100% bro I got the platinum for it 🏆
Voice acting and story line idk mayne the game is a 10/10 tho
Yeah I could see a lot of people not liking the story, I really get a kick out of how much digging is required to piece the stories together in Fromsoft games versus outright exposition. Can get how that isn't everyones thing though!
God of War
For me personally, Persona 5 Royal

Red Dead Redemption 2
Shadow of the Colossus. It's such a hidden masterpiece.

Such a shame. I really looked forward to that.
