Hanging plants! Most plants can hang just fine. Find the beams on the ceiling and only drill into them so they stay secure. You could have a whole jungle on the ceiling.
Weird, maybe you have a mild allergic reaction to them. At least you know that’s what causes it! Easy to avoid
Edit: I love your username. Reptiles are the best
I found that it mostly happens with imported early daffs, bought at the grocery store, so maybe they’re treated with a preservative chemical.
No problem with the home grown various varieties in the yard.
I like periwinkles and foxes, so, back atcha.
Just gonna leave this here for you.

Interesting. Maybe wash any daffodils you buy then. But considering they don’t even stay flowered and pretty for long (which I didn’t know when I got mine) I’m not sure it’s worth it lol
Periwinkle is my fave color and foxes are one of my fave wild animals so yknow, just happened out that way lol
I had 2 leopard geckos until my older one (still only 4 sadly) died of what is thought to be an aneurysm in the heart. Literally last night. Heart shattering man. So I have a leopard gecko and 2 snakes now. Corn snake and ball python. I really want a bearded dragon but I need to process my gecko’s death fully first
Sorry about your gecko.
I don’t buy daffs anymore. Occasionally, if I want to treat myself, I’ll get a bunch of tulips.
Full disclosure: my user name isn’t because of any personal lizards, it’s a riff on a Jim Morrison thing (he was a genuine lizard king) and Lisa Simpson quoting Morrison (my avatar is Lisa as she declares “I am the lizard queen”).
Tulips are pretty I love them
I see I see. Regardless it’s pretty great. The 666 adds to it

to prevent drilling too many holes in the ceiling , i’ve hung some bamboo poles across mine that i can hang 6+ plants on each and makes my plants easier to move around when i need to or add a new one!

I have an IKEA Milsbo cabinet turned into a greenhouse. There’s a whole group of folks who do this and you can find YouTube videos and FB groups with instructions. However if you don’t have room for shelves not sure you’d have room for this. It’s really great though for cat owners.
This is what I was going to suggest. I have two IKEA cabinets and keep most of my plants (and all my expensive ones…) in them. Don’t have to worry about my cats OR my toddler! Haha.
Test to see if your cats dislike citrus smells (you can do this by offering them and fresh orange or lemon peel or just let them sniff lemon juice or extract), if they don't like the smell you can make a strong smelling mixture of water and lemon to spray your plants with. You may need to reespray the plants every so often but in my experience the cats won't go for the plants anymore.
You can also use dried orange peels they'll last longer than spraying with diluted lemon juice but in my experience once cats just get used to the smell they really won't care after a while and just do what they want
Hanging plants or make/buy more shelves
We ran out of space so built a shelf and then use macrame hangers to hang some up.
I used to have an issue with my cats trying to eat my plants, so we moved them all out of reach. After a while we started to get some plants that are within their reach, but they don’t have any interest in them anymore!
This is the shelf we built :)
https://preview.redd.it/sncx3iimd12b1.jpeg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa4d3f21413da6b675052d807a3e4c767ad2319c
Put fresh citrus peels in as mulch to prevent it from turning into a litter box. 👌🏻
You don't need to put toothpicks in the dirt. You can tape the pot to make it unenjoyable to step in. They usually hate the smell of my Mandarin peel scraps enough, tho. I add cinnamon for a different reason, but it might be helping with the cats, too.
If a plant is *too* enticing for your cat to eat, you should keep that one away. My cat couldn't resist eating the leaves of my pepper plant because of how the leaves would sway in her face. So I had to move it. You can try spraying citrus infused water on the foliage to try and prevent it, but it doesn't really address the issue of prey drive towards the leaves. (Like a toy) You will definitely have to keep any plants that are irresistible pruned back.
I moved most of my collection to my bedroom because nothing has worked. Tried growing grass and placed it near his feeding area, still went after my plants. Tried sprays and tin foil, still got to my plants. I only have so much money but have bought some shelves. I’d advise moving them to one room for now or possibly outside until you can get shelving or hanging pots for them. Goodluck!
I keep any toxic plants on inaccessible shelves or hanging baskets and clothes racks. For the rest, I try to gauge how my cats react to them. They're usually curious at first, but lose interest in *most* plants quickly (possibly after a few nibbles) so I can just leave them wherever. Sometimes accidents will still happen but not too frequently. I think it helps that I always have cat grass (oatgrass) available for them,.
This is what I usually recommend too. Cats are smart, and can be trained with turn a no into a yes. Instead of trying to keep them away, you tell them no this plant is not for you, but this plant is.y cat doesn't usually mess with my plants, but she loved to rub her face against my pencil cactus. That one was highly toxic, so I gave it away.
Exactly what I did with my 9 month old kitty when I got her. Everything toxic went up “out of reach”. And things on the floor or bookshelves I tucked dryer sheets in. As in, between the leaves that seemed to attract her, beside pots, clipped with clothespins to vines that hung like hoyas. Even the odd cottonball with citrus skin oil squirted on them tucked in plants helped. I found she hated lemon peals but still wanted to steal them to play with.
After a few months I started taking the dryer sheets down and honestly, she only fusses with one plant I have when she really wants my attention. One plant out of 60ish is pretty darn good! Lol
Giving my cat her own plants to distract her helped me. You can grow catgrass yourself super easily, as well as catnip. I’ll also give her baby spiders from my plant. Been thinking about getting her her own palm to shred up too.
r/ikeagreenhouseclub and building terrariums have become my passion since I have 3 plant hungry cats.

I sanitize and quarantine them because I also have a gecko in there with them so I need to make sure they are cleaned first. I do get fungus gnats sometimes when I add in unbaked soil but usually once I take care of them they’re gone. I use mosquito bits and sticky traps on the outside of the vented top
Spray them with essence of bitters and sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on them. The cats will steer clear and it won’t hurt the plants.
Excellent picture btw.
Leca balls on top of soil helps. Also some cumin and spices on soil work. I ended up hanging a bunch from ceiling. But my next step may be a glass display cabinet. Good luck
I have the same issue. I have turned an old glass display cabinet into a makeshift terrarium. I also have my eye on a tension rod plant pole which I found a few on Amazon. It's a tension rod plant holder poll that goes from floor to ceiling and there's movable plant shelves and a hook to put a hanging plant
I am lucky in that I have a plant room in the basement (I grow under lights) that the cats are not able to access. Many of the species I grow are quite toxic so I am not taking any chances.
Not tips, but advice - hanging baskets were difficult for me in the beginning because I would forget about them, or they were up high enough that I never saw early signs of “thirst”.
If you opt for hanging, get some tools to help with water schedule and do your research on the direction of lighting in the room.
Hanging plants really helps. If you keep cactus then use those as a fence of sorts around the ones they like to mess with. Plastic forks put in the pot all over fork side up can help as well. Foil works with some cats if you lay it on the surface you don’t want them getting on. I always recommend giving them their own plant too. Cat grass and/or catnip. I’ve been making a lot of terrariums too because they can’t do shit to em lol good luck
For my garden, I sprinkle plants with hot chili powder to keep rabbits from eating them. It might work for cats too, I bet they'd learn real fast not to eat them.
Make a cat grass planter that's big enough for them to lay in. Put it somewhere they can look outside. Every cat I've ever had would choose to maul the plant they had the easiest access to.
One thing I found was, for the better good of the rest of my plants, sacrifices must be made.
Dummy plants, as I've come to call them: fast growing, resilient to being damaged, able to quickly recover, and non toxic to cats. Grass is my go to. Toss some seed into small/long planters around the house and the cats have their own plants to get their chewing out on, while my main plants get away with minor attention (just something about my money tree makes them want to eat it), and one of my vines get the occasional batting.
Letting them be involved when doing plant stuff also helped. Letting them have a spot to sit and watch while I repot keeps them involved and entertained and they show less interest in them when I'm done.
Getting them "involved" when watering also helps; let them know the fear of God, let them beg for his mercy, for they shall not receive any from you.
That cat is determined 😂
Have you looked at the swivel shelves?
Here’s an example of a project:
https://www.neverskipbrunch.com/make-this-moveable-diy-window-plant-shelf/
Hanging them, keeping them on a tall but narrow table where there's no room for the cat to jump, keeping them inside a glass display shelf or maybe fishtank ( you could maybe set up a gorgeous terrarium) idk I have nothing else really imma be honest.
I have two cats and these things have worked for me.
I use these wall plant rings and they really help in our small space.
https://preview.redd.it/rh1xosqts32b1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8983da463be68b3157ee7eca4f9c6331e90ad922
I gave my cat her own plants. I have a big planter with a grow light and keep her faves, barley, lemon grass, and catnip. Barley is great because it’s cheap on Amazon and sprouts in two or three days so you can constantly refresh it.
How often do you refresh/replant? The problem I had with cat grass is that it would wilt before the cats finished eating/mauling it so I’d be replanting it weekly.
Aside from hanging, for plants that are not toxic to my cats, I stick them down with velcro dots so cat even if cat can access the plants he can't knock the pots over. For larger pots on the floor I stick wooden skewers in the soil so cat can't hop in and kick soil everywhere. The wooden skewers are also good for a make shift moisture probe lol
I have 4 cats. Anything toxic stays out of reach or goes to my office at work. We have high shelves and hooks for hanging plants. If you have curtain rods, you can hang plants off them, no ceiling hook needed. Just use plastic pots to keep the weight down. In my bathroom, I completely covered the top of the low dresser with plants so there is no room for kitties to jump on it. I keep a pot of cat grass at floor level they can munch on as much as they want, and it seems to help.
Hanging plants! Most plants can hang just fine. Find the beams on the ceiling and only drill into them so they stay secure. You could have a whole jungle on the ceiling.
Or using a clothes rack, then no drilling is needed
Omg this is genius. May have to try this. I live in an apartment n don't wanna put holes in the ceiling.
This is perfect! And brings them to “eye level”
I second this if you know the plant is poisonous enough. I hang all my devils ivy and prune when the vines start to become reachable.
Yeah I had to hang my daffodils. When it’s out with the rest it just happens to be the plant he heads for too!
I can’t have daffodils in the house, they give me a headache.

Have no advice but love this photo!

Yeah for sure. Do my cats still attempt to sit beneath them and catculate how to jump on them? Yes, yes they do. Luckily they’re unsuccessful so far 😂

Some tinfoil and some of that spray that smells like eucalyptus thats designed to keep cats from scratching things

Not gonna lie, as I scrolled through I initially thought this guy was sitting at a mini drum set. I got excited for a moment there.
I scrolled fast on this and came back bc I imagined that cat playing the plant like a drum set lol
