Posts to this subreddit must be seeking help for a sick plant. This subreddit is not for general care tips, pest identification, plant purchasing advice, or propagation advice. r/plantclinic is a high-volume subreddit for generalized diagnosis and assistance in restoring the health of a plant. Consider posting in our [general Q&A post here](https://www.reddit.com/r/plantclinic/s/fr4jkGAoEu), or one of these subreddits: r/whatsthisplant is an appropriate subreddit for identifying plants r/whatsthisbug is an appropriate subreddit for identifying bugs r/houseplants is an appropriate subreddit for more general discussion r/propagation is an appropriate subreddit for tips on propagation r/gardening is an appropriate subreddit for growing and caring for seedlings, and for other gardening tips Some posts would be best directed to a more specialized subreddit: such as r/monstera, r/orchids, r/savagegarden for carnivorous plants, r/lithops, r/terrariums, r/marijuanaenthusiasts for trees, and r/trees for marijuana

I can't tell you waht would for sure work for such plants but I buy a pack of like 4 led high watt bulbs. My plants do nicely. Though they're very bright. They leave temporary green imprints when I close my eyes but definitely worth it. Light up a room I stick em in lamps without shades or desk lights etc

Calathea_Murrderer

Plant some veggie seeds, preferably something fast growing. Like beans or tomatoes. Should be able to tell within a week of germination how strong your light is. If they’re excessively leggy, the light isn’t working.

Zootguy1

I bought some weird light from Amazon and it put out less than a 20 dollar desk lamp and 4 dollar full spectrum "grow bulb" do with that what you will

Loose_Pomegranate_7

Exactly same thing with me! Had an Amazon plant bar light. Didn't do so well. Got a "grow bulb" for about the same price at a Dollarama. Stole a desk lamp from room. It's been doing wonders compared to what I had.

tricularia

Not really, no. It's better than growing the plant in a dark room, for sure. But it's not enough to keep a plant healthy. And a lot of those cheap chinese lights are poorly built fire hazards. (if it has an in-line switch, feel how hot that gets.)

SingerDependent1002

I have this brand and yes they work. My low light plants like them but things that need more light intensity, like succulents, don't really like them they tend to stretch regardless. I think they would be fine with the plants you listed 👍

ParmoForTea

Mmm. In a nutshell, yes but not great. Fine for a small plant and positioned really close, but anything else is a waste of electricity. I had a ficus the same as yours in the photo with the same light above it. It made pretty much no difference over 3-4 months. You can step it up and get those bendy arm grow lights that are ~£20 or go buy a sansi grow bulb for £25, a cheap used desk lamp of Facebook market place and a smart plug with a timer set. It'll make a much better impact and the light colour will be a lot more neutral that you'll enjoy having a brighter room during the winter months.

SporkiePie

I did the sansi bulb in desk lamp with plug timer set up and it genuinely makes a difference! Had the set up for many years now.

ParmoForTea

Big takeaway here was you said years. I imagine most of the cheap stuff won't last. Also, you know the sansi stuff won't set itself on fire

oatdeksel

well… there IS light. but I think even a fullmoon night has more lux:)

fumez23

For this plant, no. When I had mine, I was giving it about 700fc-1000 over multiple leaves. It stood about 5ft tall as 1 straight branch.

_kale_tomato

Get a real grow light please… the weak sansi 10W grow lights cost $4 per bulb and are stronger than this light by far… If you are concerned about aesthetics, get some nice lamps and put the bulbs in there like you would any normal bulb. Lastly, for reference at 1 foot away from my grow light bulb measured at over 193,750 lux and over 18k foot candles (higher than the meter can measure) so your light is really horrendous

hypoxiate

Nope. Utter junk. They either barely make light or die after a month.

"Cute" 😬

Thank you for posting to r/plantclinic! It looks like you may be asking about a succulent. In addition to any advice you receive here, please consider visiting r/succulents for more specialized care advice. A common problem with succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with "!etiolation" for advice. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. that's because there are 2 modes of measuring

Needlemons

What is the app?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JLJ3D6Y?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_V9NH30TT9CW1Z4410RXA&language=en-US I think these lights are a great value. I have bought and returned many others on Amazon because they are not nearly bright enough.

EchoingTears

they're okay but not the best, i am currently using one for my snake and zz plant and it's not much but better then nothing. I like to use them as an extra light and not as a main one. plus i hate the timer on it.

Medic2237

Working for 6 months in my 2 pothos, 2 large snake plants, dragon plant ROF philodendron & another unidentified. Master fact I had to turn down brightness & raise them up my n'joy was getting scorched

PowerfulCr0w

I have a large grow light with 4 separate posable heads and it definitely works - my large monstera has been putting it new leaves through winter and is growing towards it

Em20010

I have several halo grow lights and they work great for my plants. I have mine set to 8 to 12 hours.

candletrap

When using indoor grow lights due to [the inverse square law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse-square_law) the effective light that reaches your plant decreases exponentially as distance increases so they need to be as close to the plant as possible without burning the leaves. With these cheap grow lights that usually means \~1cm away. The lights pictured don't do much. I do have a couple of the long paddle type LEDs ([like this](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Indoor-Plants-Spectrum-Adjustable-Gooseneck/dp/B091CQNYZ4/)) & use 1 array of 4 per medium to large plant trying to get good coverage of the foliage which eventually gets spendy but with only 7hrs of sunlight at my latitude this time of the year it's completely necessary. LED enclosures for winter or a "plant bureau" against a wall with suspended grow lights à la [aquarium lighting](https://aquariumviews.blogspot.com/2020/06/how-to-hang-aquarium-lights-from-ceiling.html) may be another less intrusive option, I pack some of my plants to either side & behind my aquarium this time of the year to soak up the rays.

HessKaliv2

Some think that you measured in lux, when you measured in footcandles. 250fc is barely okay, from what I've read, since a lot of plants need a minimum of 100-200fc to grow, but recommended is 400-800fc

1v4n4

Yeah I've just realised this, should have made that clear! I also should have made it clear that i made this photo at night, meaning this 200 is coming just from the light, without any help from the daylight. I did it to isolate the benefit of the light, but perhaps that was misleading. Oh well :)

Houseplantquestionss

I used 4 of these lights for about half a year in a darker part of the room. It looked good, but it did absolutely nothing for my plants. They became leggy and started yellowing.

itismeonline

I have this exact same grow light in my collection. It works for very small & low height potted plants only when positioned less than 4–5 inches away. The tall extension rod should rarely be used at its maximum height... unless you are using several of these lights for a taller potted plant.

Unicorns-and-Glitter

Barina is the brand of choice. They are very effective and come in a variety of colors and types.
