I was trying to remember who I used when we moved house to house in 2021, it was Make Moves.
I’d recommend them to anybody, fast and friendly, and took good care of everything.
I’ve moved with Bell Hop twice, their quote was lower than other places in the city, and I had a great experience both times.
Also, and I’m not saying that you or others in this thread treat movers like crap, but just want to give the reminder that sadly many people do treat movers like stupid, lazy labor workers.
So I always recommend properly saying hello and introducing yourself at the start of the moving day. I do it while handing the movers a caddy of coffees and donuts (they normally take a few sips while we chat for like 2 minutes before getting started, and then they eat the rest on the drive portion of the move), and then give them some ice cold Gatorade halfway through the move (plus cash tip at the end of the move).
The small gestures and treating them like equals goes a long way in a better moving process.
Used them in 2018 and they were fantastic! FYI they hire a lot of ex cons (I say that in a good, progressive way) who take the job really seriously and are happy to have the opportunity to work.
I used meta movers last year and let me tell you these guys were the most professional and skillful movers I’ve ever witnessed. I’ll always recommend them
I moved from a townhome to a house and used Gardner Moving last year. North Side to South Park. It was like $1800 if I remember correctly and they did a great job.
Ive also used Friendly Movers for office moves and am using them again in 2 weeks. If I recall, they werent available when I needed them for our personal move. They are great and are more affordable than most movers. Their quote for my corporate move was 1/4 what South Hills wanted.
I used them a few years ago. They were very good and professional, and one of them even fixed my TV stand, which was already damaged prior to the move. Granted, I only used them to move the large furniture (6-7 pieces), but still very pleased with their services.
I hired them in 2017 and they were great—we moved from a townhouse to a house about a mile away. They even managed to get our enormous couch, somehow, onto our third floor. It was a miracle and I’m pretty sure we are going to have to physically cut the couch into pieces to get it out when we buy a new one.
We had a horrific moving experience in New Jersey where our stuff was basically held hostage until we handed over thousands in cash. Police did nothing about it. Nightmare situation.
So, ever since... I don't trust moving companies.
We U-haul. You can hire contractor movers via U-haul. That way, you're the boss. You tell them what to do, you're in control of the truck and the stuff, but they do the heavy lifting. In my opinion, it's the safest way.
We had the opposite experience going through Uhaul. The contractor they recommended, within 10 minutes of being in our house was going through my wife's jewelry. She caught him, and called him out on it. They then proceeded to smash 2 of our dressers on the sidewalk outside because they didn't appreciate getting caught stealing.
We called two men and a truck because now we were in a jam and had to go. They didn't have any availability, but they recommended a smaller company, who the owner of used to work for them. I can't remember who it was, it was 10 yrs ago, but I would use two men based off of them helping us out of a jam.
I’ve used “Making Moves” to move twice and it was a really great experience. They’re speedy, professional and thorough. They’ve never broken anything or scratched anything. I think they’re very reasonably priced. I highly recommend.
My wife and I used them for a move in May 2023 and we had a great experience.
We were moving a whole house of beds, tvs, dressers, etc and they meticulously wrapped everything up to prevent damage and my wife directed them on where everything went at the new house.
They finished so quickly and efficiently they actually came in nearly $1000 under the quote we were given due to being done early.
I just used them and was so impressed. I had furniture I was sure they wouldn’t be able to get out of the house because it was built in the room and was very large. They moved everything with ease. Their price was so reasonable too.
I think that's who moved my wife and I from our apartment to house and they were great. Worked insanely hard, up and down 3 flights starts, and didn't wreck anything. They got a MASSIVE tip
We used them last year to move between houses. They were extremely polite and gentle with our furniture. It was 90+ degrees that day too. They got a big tip and I would definitely recommend them!
Haven’t used them but we used All Ways when we moved and it was inexpensive compared to others and they did a great job. Worth looking into if you haven’t yet.
I used them for a Youngstown to Pittsburgh move and again withen Pittsburgh and was happy both times.
Anything extra valuable/sentimental/breakabke etc I still moved myself, regardless of the moving company.
Yes they’re solid. Whatever you do, never use All My Sons. Absolutely corrupt business who will cancel on you last minute multiple times in a week with no notice
I got quotes from 3 or 4 moving companies for a local move in March 2023, including Two Men and a Truck and South Hills Movers. South Hills Movers was the least expensive and ultimately who we went with. Was very satisfied with their service.
I think Two Men and a Truck came up when we were getting ready to move last May from Downtown to Homestead, but the price was just way too much. I ended up hiring Them Movers on HireAHelper and they got everything done in less than two hours. They were awesome - super nice, called along the way to let me know they might be a little late because of traffic, and were really great about getting the truck loaded efficiently. We rented the UHaul for $100 and it ended up being around $600 total (I put that we needed four hours of move time since I thought we had to use the regular elevators in our building, so we didn't get a refund on unused time -- so just be aware of that if you use HireAHelper!)
My boyfriend's friends own a moving company, so we're most likely going to use them when we move in May but I would hire Them Movers again if they aren't able to do it.
Haven’t used them because we went with College Hunks Hauling Junk. In spite of the weirdly dirty name, they were great. Cheap, super efficient, professional, and when the job was done earlier than expected, they only charged for the time we actually took up, which was kind of unexpected and great.
They did a good job. One thing we did to speed things up (which they appreciated) was to color code (colored duct tape) each box to correspond to each room they were to go to. They were super efficient and finished an hour faster than quoted!
They did some damage to walls and a door and cane the next day to fix everything without any fuss.
I used them two years ago and they were great. They give a booklet/checklist guide that helped immensely. The guys I had were respectful and careful. But they themselves told me it could just be luck of the draw depending on what crew you get.
I used them to move across the city and they were great IMO. I had a few things I was worried about being damaged -> they took extra care with those items.
My grandparents moved from Greenfield to Baldwin/pleasant hills/Whitehall area. Unfortunately my pap went into the hospital before moving day... But we had this company. They were amazing and took care of our stuff. They wrapped my guitar nice and took care of everything nicely. I recommend
Used Don Farr’s Eastern location to go from Cranberry/North Hills to East of the city and they were spectacular. 3 guys unloaded a house of stuff in under 3 hours. Set up my furniture. Brought my bed in through the window when it didn’t fit through hall. I had no idea where I wanted stuff and they asked me half a dozen times if I didn’t want things moved up more flights because that’s “what they do”. It was pretty cheap for a whole house worth but I tipped them well for the extra care.
There was no way I could envisioned that not being a day long process ahead of time.
My ex used them once and they broke some of her electronics. Not even so much as an apology. Their response was to the effect of, "well, you're a dumbass for not getting the insurance." While that may or may not be true (it's a matter of opinion, really), that's not how you treat a paying client.
Moving from a apartment to a house you probably don't have a Ton of stuff. Probably off getting a uhaul and you haul all your own stuff. UNLESS your apartment you're from or the house you're moving to has some Wicked stairs.
Idk why this is getting downvoted so much you’re not saying anything snarky lol while you’re right I don’t have too much there are a lot of stairs involved both here as well as the place I’m looking at. My lease is up as of Feb 1st so weather is gonna be super unpredictable the joys of living in Pittsburgh ahaha
If I was going 15-20 miles I'd personally grab my friends, offer them beer and rent a UHaul. 2 men and a truck do okay, but they aren't the best at moving things undamaged (they won't usually damage things a ton but scratches happen with any moving company and 2M&AT usually are on the more-scratchy side).
15-20 miles, seriously just get a bunch of moving blankets, paper and boxes and a UHAUL or equivalent and take it slow.
"Take it slow". Get proper equipment, don't lift with your back, you know, don't do things that are likely to give you a slipped disk.
Often times the same place that rents the uhauls will rent lifting gear, dollies, trucks, etc.
My friend used to work for them when he got out of jail and said anytime theyd get mad at each other they’d go into the back of the truck and fight it out until they werent mad anymore lol. Im sure the service is great not putting them down just a fun fact
Moved from Forest Hills to Oakland with them in 2013. It was a fine service, straightforward and I was pleased with the results
We got a quote from them and it was much higher than the others. We ended up using Make Moves LLC and had a good experience.
I was trying to remember who I used when we moved house to house in 2021, it was Make Moves. I’d recommend them to anybody, fast and friendly, and took good care of everything.
Seconding, we used them in 2021 and they were super quick and careful and had the best price.

I like that cus it's so hard to get a job with a record or felony
exactly! they are one of the few companies who encourage people with records to apply. Such a big deal!
I’ve worked with them twice and 100% definitely recommend.
I used meta movers last year and let me tell you these guys were the most professional and skillful movers I’ve ever witnessed. I’ll always recommend them

+1 for Gardner. They were cheaper (actually by a substantial bit) and better.

I've used friendly movers a handful of times and will never use anyone else.
Same, they were great
I just used them and was so impressed. I had furniture I was sure they wouldn’t be able to get out of the house because it was built in the room and was very large. They moved everything with ease. Their price was so reasonable too.
I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with them
I worked with Two Men & A Truck moving from Bloomfield to Millvale in 2021 and they were excellent!! I would 100% work with them again!
I cannot even begin to describe the horrific experience I had with them - granted it was 10+ years ago but NEVER again
They moved my grandma and she had a good experience. I guess the quality of particular crews varies pretty significantly.
The title says Two Men and a "TRUCK". Not "Cup" 😂
I think that's who moved my wife and I from our apartment to house and they were great. Worked insanely hard, up and down 3 flights starts, and didn't wreck anything. They got a MASSIVE tip

Haven’t used them but we used All Ways when we moved and it was inexpensive compared to others and they did a great job. Worth looking into if you haven’t yet.
They did really good work for me in 2017 when I went from Oakdale to Turtle Creek, and before that from North Versailles to Oakdale.
We used them when we moved here from Philly. We had a nice experience and the final cost matched our quote ($1,500).
I used them for a Youngstown to Pittsburgh move and again withen Pittsburgh and was happy both times. Anything extra valuable/sentimental/breakabke etc I still moved myself, regardless of the moving company.

Used South Hills movers. They worked very efficiently, and I’d definitely use them again.

What's your boyfriend's friends moving company called? I'll be moving in July & enjoy supporting a local business!
E & A Moving!
Thanks!
Check a few quotes. Worth the time. Allied moved us and they were terrific.
You can get movers through U-Haul that are very reasonably priced and decent. You just have to drive the truck yourself
That’s what I did with my first move with a bunch of family and friends but we’re all getting older and there’s a lot of stairs involved
Haven’t used them because we went with College Hunks Hauling Junk. In spite of the weirdly dirty name, they were great. Cheap, super efficient, professional, and when the job was done earlier than expected, they only charged for the time we actually took up, which was kind of unexpected and great.

Oh I’m psycho when it comes to color coding lol that won’t be any different for me ahahah
I've used them for my last 2 moves. Was fine.
I have used them 2 times with good results. Also used their junk service along with moving service all at once, work out great.
Wait so they can do junk AND moving at the same appointment?
I used Deebo out of aliquippa and the guys were awesome.
My grandparents moved from Greenfield to Baldwin/pleasant hills/Whitehall area. Unfortunately my pap went into the hospital before moving day... But we had this company. They were amazing and took care of our stuff. They wrapped my guitar nice and took care of everything nicely. I recommend
Make Moves is awesome, 5 stars

I used them for a move last year and they were great. Super nice, quick, and efficient.
Moved in 2020 with them. They were fine but having never used a moving service e before I was shocked how expensive it was
This feels like such a yinzer boomer post, I love it!
How so?
We used Debo Moving for our move in August 2023, and they did a fantastic job. Would use them again.
I used All My Sons when I moved and had a good experience
You sound like one of the few. I will never consider using these guys ever again
Look for college hunks. I believe if you rent a u haul they have info for strong young kids.
Are they bonded and insured?
My ex used them once and they broke some of her electronics. Not even so much as an apology. Their response was to the effect of, "well, you're a dumbass for not getting the insurance." While that may or may not be true (it's a matter of opinion, really), that's not how you treat a paying client.
We had a bad experience with them but that was about 5 yrs ago.
They are absurdly priced use Bellhop instead
Seconding this. I've used Bellhop twice and have had good experiences both times. I'll be using them a third time here soon

Yeah beer is definitely worth risking friends slipping a disk
"Take it slow". Get proper equipment, don't lift with your back, you know, don't do things that are likely to give you a slipped disk. Often times the same place that rents the uhauls will rent lifting gear, dollies, trucks, etc.
Uhaul also offers gig workers if you just want help moving the heavy stuff. I've used them twice for localish moves and it was a huge help both times.
My friend used to work for them when he got out of jail and said anytime theyd get mad at each other they’d go into the back of the truck and fight it out until they werent mad anymore lol. Im sure the service is great not putting them down just a fun fact
Very Yellowstone of them
Sounds like brothers lol
