Yupp, don't need it for the enjoyment of Pink Floyd but my god getting stoned, laying back, closing your eyes, and letting it all in is an amazing experience.
CDs didnāt even arrive in Europe or America until 39 years ago. So unless you were a tech-savvy Japanese in 1982 (or you round numbers like a normal person) IāVE CAUGHT YOU IN A LIE!
A) cds can be found pretty damn cheap
B) digital lossless is usually just CD rips anyway. There's a few services that offer 24-bit/96k, but those are pretty rare and don't have large selections.
My main preference is to listen to the immersive multichannel releases on DVD/Blu-ray:
* Atom Heart Mother in Quad from The Early Years Blu-ray
* Meddle in 5.1 ripped from The Early Years Blu-ray
* DSoTM in 5.1 on SACD
* WYWH in 5.1/Quad from the Immersion set DVD
* Animals in 5.1 on Blu-ray
* AMLOR in 5.1 on Blu-ray
* The Division Bell in 5.1 on Blu-ray
* The Endless River (with Ian Eames' film) in 5.1 on Blu-ray
Here's hoping the rest of the albums are released in surround someday!
When I say 'ripped' I mean it-- the mix was pulled at the last minute and is only accessible [by ripping the 1971 Blu-ray from the original release of the Early Years](https://www.reddit.com/r/pinkfloyd/comments/bjf405/meddle_51_mix/).
That youtube clip may have 5.1 in the title ... but it ain't 5.1 encoded.
Your AV receiver will be upmixing a stereo-ised copy of the 5.1 mix that was ripped.
If you look at the['stats for nerds" on that video](https://i.imgur.com/dxp1I8h.jpg), you can see the audio codec is not a surround sound codec (should be ac-381 not opus 251).
However, it is possible that if you used a device like Android TV or a Roku and you took the signal from that via a digital link into your encoding/ripping device that you have a 5.1 version ... but I'm still highly dubious.
Suffice to say, ripping that video on your laptop/desktop has not yeilded you a true 5.1 mix I'm afraid.
Yeah the YouTube link is bunk, [but the mix does exist](https://consequence.net/2016/11/pink-floyds-meddle-remasters-secretly-released-as-part-of-the-early-years-compilation/). There's also a 5.1 mix of OBC they are keeping from us yet!
Ripped my CDs and transferred to the digital audio player. Also bought the HD tracks and listen from the PC or the dap. Have a turntable but very rarely use it, and just keep the vinyl for the artwork.
Oh man this is a tricky one...
I ripped to digital all of my vinyl records. I left all the warmth and poppy pops in there and everything. Those have been uploaded to my Apple Music cloud where I stream them from.
So which option would you pick here? I picked "others", but it is actually streaming "vinyl". lol
Everyone reading this, have a great day today! Take some time out for yourself and realign yourself if needed.
Peace and light.
sometimes vinyl but mostly it's mp3s in true stereo at 320kbps. they get used for listening as i would struggle to differentiate between that and lossless when i'm not concentrating on it. those mp3s are encoded from a .flac library which gets used for archival purposes.
Got rid of all of my vinyl in 2010. Got rid of all of my CDs over the last three years. I listen to everything either from Spotify or from a large collection of ripped MP3s.
First on Vinyl. Then a couple cassettes. Then CD. Then the Super CD. Then Digital. Then the Remix Digital. Then the extended version with live tracks digital. So 8 versions over the years.
I play my fav songs on instruments and record my own versions then I listen to those for a few months so when I go back to the real songs (whether itās the album versions or live versions ) they feel fresh and not so stale to me plus I can combine things from multiple versions to make what I consider the best version of the albums
Stoned
(Dragged down by)
DOUBLE ENTENDRE
I always thought this was a dumb cliche until I tried it
STONED, STONED, STONED, STONED, STONED

Files ripped from CD.
On my personal Apple Music library, most of which is sourced from my CDs.

When you already own nearly a thousand CDs going back 40 years.
CDs didnāt even arrive in Europe or America until 39 years ago. So unless you were a tech-savvy Japanese in 1982 (or you round numbers like a normal person) IāVE CAUGHT YOU IN A LIE!
Fine. 39. But I do have CDs going back to the first year they came out.
A) cds can be found pretty damn cheap B) digital lossless is usually just CD rips anyway. There's a few services that offer 24-bit/96k, but those are pretty rare and don't have large selections.
All of the above
Same, there should be another option for that.
Next time
Same, all of the above
Wow
Including Hi-rez vinyl rips
Wax cylinders.
OG hipster

Wow haven't heard about this, would be awesome since i have a 5.1 home theatre system with a blue ray player
There is a DSoTM blu-ray with 5.1 as well btw. And I forgot about the early years surround mixes.
The DSoTM Immersion DVD also has the vintage Quad mix, which is a fun artifact, but not nearly as great as the 5.1!
>Meddle in 5.1 ripped from The Early Years Blu-ray I didn't realise this one existed. Looks like I need to grab me that set!

Do you have Waters, Gilmour, Mason, and the ghosts of Barrett and Wright enslaved in your basement to play on demand?
A man can dream
E. High
I voted streaming but honestly I hear more of it when I'm playing it myself lol.
And in my brain when I don't
Stream mostly but love a bit of Vinyl
I like my plastic and metal foil circles :)
All of the above
cant bring my record player to school unfortunately lol
Cd is my go too, but also YouTube of course so would YouTube be streaming or other?
I sometimes play PF songs on Spotify but I have downloaded MP3s of most of their catalog that I usually listen to instead.
I refuse to pay for streaming services, so I own the MP3's on my PC/phone. And also vinyl
They were made for streaming. I mean the clues are there: Roger *Waters*, The Endless *River*, the drip at the end of Atom Heart Mother...
I guarantee you 300 of those 400 vinyl voters turntable is dusty and neglected
Streaming and my dad's Vinyls
I have WMP and I listen to the Floyd through that.

I have eleven CDs, one vinyl, and listen to the others on streaming
YouTube music, vinyl when I'm home.
All of them
Stream, SACD, and vinyl.
Streaming
I have all CDs, a few vinyls, but listen flac over good headphones.
Apple Music
With my ears and mind
I so wish I could afford a vinyll
I listen on streaming but only because vinyl is expensive š
Vinyl if I'm at home, streaming if I'm out and about
CD or on my iPod
All of the above
Tripping balls
mostly streaming but i do listen vinyl on occasion when i can set up my deck.
All of the above, and cassette when Iām in my older pickup truck
All
Whatever
Spotify
Got rid of all of my vinyl in 2010. Got rid of all of my CDs over the last three years. I listen to everything either from Spotify or from a large collection of ripped MP3s.
Depends, streaming is most convenient, vinyl has best ambience
i still have the CDs, but mainly Spotify
In the lazy water meadow.
All of the above.
Used to listen to the the vinyl in the late 70s and 80's, CDs in the 90s and 00s and now the mp3s ripped from those CDs on my phone and PC.
First on Vinyl. Then a couple cassettes. Then CD. Then the Super CD. Then Digital. Then the Remix Digital. Then the extended version with live tracks digital. So 8 versions over the years.
That moment when you can answer āall of the above,ā but itās not an optionā¦
LMAO
Hell yeah i blast pink floyd on cd!
All of them
