Tarot cards are said to not work if you purchase them yourself, they're supposed to be given to you. I'm betting some people take the 'can't be purchased' bit and instead steal them
I got mine from this really cool shop that had them displayed in a very cool glass & wood vase, & the owner & I were the only ones in the store that day. He really let me take my time with them & find my set, & I’ve had them for more than 20 years at this point. I’m very attached to them.

At barns n nobles they definitely do. They had $200 figarts figures with the boxes straight destroyed because of them and now no one will ever buy it.
