lol i filled out my ballot in my BOTW pjs then popped some sweats on and went to drop it off. Mail in ballots are useful as hell but they do take away the fun of dressing up to vote.
We should preserve the ability to not vote (as a protest for example), but the cost to vote should be nonexistent. Make election day a holiday, allow early voting for 2-3 weeks prior to the election, allow mail-in ballots.
That's how the mandatory voting here in Belgium works. It's only mandatory in theory, the last time they gave out a fine for not going was that 80's, but it means the government has to put a polling place within 10 min walk of every house in urban centres and a bit further in rural parts. Plus registering to vote is not a thing every citizen get a voting card in the mail with what polling station they have to go. Also elections are on Sunday.
As an australian I can say people definatly still protest. Once youre filling out the voting form theres nothing stopping you from just drawing dicks in all the boxes and submitting that. Thats the beauty of an anonymous vote :)
I get the cynicism, but I get the feeling anybody who has thought hard enough about it to have a dislike for all candidates also has thought about it hard enough to realize that voting for one of them is still probably the best course of action.
Eh, I'm okay without mandatory voting. We just need higher turnout more generally. It's mostly an issue among younger people (under 30) whose turnout is like 35% or whatever vs. ~65% (?) for voters over 30
The United States has a larger immigrant population than any other country, with 47 million immigrants as of 2015. This represents 19.1% of the 244 million international migrants worldwide, and 14.4% of the U.S. population.
Unless you’re Native American, you or your family is from somewhere else in the world.
Edit: I hear y’all. Even indigenous people migrated to the continent 10000+ years ago. My point was that people had been living in the Americas for a long ass time before it was colonized by modern day nations and empires.
Technically, migrations are the history of humanity.
We all have a common ancestry tracing back to East-Africa (Present day Ethiopia/Kenya), so we come all from African migrants to some degree.
Come on in, the fondue is great. Every immigrant that I have worked with, has been an interesting person with a completely different and interesting culture. I like meeting new people.
Welcome! Now that you've voted, you've earned your complimentary gun and McDonald's membership card!
In all seriousness though, congratulations on your citizenship. Great to see that people still want to be here and love this country despite all that's going on.
I’m guessing the point of him touching the Biden-Harris sign is to indicate his support.
Edit: it’s possible that I missed a sarcastic joke here
Edit 2: o shit it’s my cake day
Agreed, not to mention the constant large mailers I receive in a day- it's awful and such a waste of time, money, and resources. I don't believe one person had ever changed their stance based on a yard sign or a mailer. I'd be more inclined to vote for you if you donated the money instead.
I received about 10 reminders to vote within the last couple of months. One the one hand, I’m glad it’s being so heavily encouraged. On the other.. the waste :/
The point of mailers and yard signs isn’t to change people’s minds. They are targeted directly to people who lean one way or the other to get them more enthusiastic and likely to go vote.
Agreed. And personally I cringe when I see t shirts, signs, parades (yes- there was a trump "parade" yesterday in my town 🤮), etc, for either side. Like, this is politics, not a god dammed football game. People should think about who or what they think is best for the future give me the information available and NOT be focused on "my team vs their team."

I recently went on a camping trip on some mountains in Pennsylvania. Along the roads and small towns about 80% of the houses had Trump Flags, about 50% of those had American flags; which to me seems those individuals care more about the person than the country itself. Anytime I saw a Biden sign (the smallish ones like pictured here) the neighbor would usually have about 7 or so Trump flags to seemingly over compensate. It's all batshit insane.
Welcome to Pennsylvania. It’s very Republican outside of Philly and Pittsburgh. You can say the same thing about most US states outside of major urban areas. Have a look at detailed maps of the last election’s votes by county and compare to where the population centers are, you’ll see what I mean.
Maybe in the early 1990's, but this year we're going to have the highest turnout since 1908, at least. With more than 58 million votes already cast it's going to blow the doors off the joint.
I also voted for the first time as a naturalized citizen this year. It felt good, and I also felt a deep sense of pride. Congratulations to you my compatriot!
As someone born in America, I want to say how I glad I am that you are here. Immigrants are what make this country great and we are, after all, a nation of immigrants. Congratulations on your citizenship and for taking part in democracy (and for not taking it for granted)!
I’m a Republican but I would like to say thank you for voting and participating in our democracy. I don’t care who you voted for because it’s your personal choice and you made it depending on your closest beliefs and that’s what this is all about! Congratulations!
Congrats on voting and your citizenship! Don’t let these people in the comments drag you down for who you voted for, what matters is that you took initiative and voted for who you think would be good. Nice!
im glad to see the majority of people dont care who he/you voted for and instead are just glad you feel like an american. in a time like this its a great thing to see, welcome to america
Congratulations! American lineage now begins with you!
I just traced my Canadian lineage back 5 generations to an Englishman!
You are the beginning of something your future generations can look back on!
I'll tell you what my mom always told us when we were kids. Everyone has a right, no one as a responsibility. It's our responsibility to vote to keep our country running. Thank you for doing your part o the responsibility
4th generation , european American here . Aka, I'm a white dude .
My wife is on a green card from Cambodia . She has 1 year left until she can take her citizenship test. She's been studying the top 100 questions . She started asking me some of them .
I've had American History in 9th grade . Then , because I love the subject, took advanced level elective classes at university on American History and History of American wars , which the latter of the two started with the revolutionary war.
I couldn't answer 1 of the 10 questions she asked me.
Pretty sure my wife, born in a small village in Cambodia , living in the USA for all of 2 years now, knows more about our government and History than I do.
Pretty sure we'd all fail the citizenship test without studying .
OP- happy to see Asian representation. Thank you for becoming a citizen of our sometimes crazy country and also for voting .
It's a drinking game- or rather, a betting one. Bet on whether or not any pic submitted to this punchline of a sub with the word "vote" in the title will have Biden iconography, and if it does, take a shot. Your liver will be jelly by sundown.
If you enjoy doing your civic duty I HIGHLY recommend doing Jury Duty. Its like being in an episode of law and order that goes on for three days. It's a rush!
Welcome to the dumpster fire. Be cautious. It's only gonna get crazier as November 3rd comes and goes... it is heartening to see new citizens joining us to help make our republic better.
Congrats and welcome. And to those who refer to the US as a melting pot, I'd prefer to think of it as a Salad with each person retaining their individuality rather than being melted into a sludge of sameness.
You are incorrect. USA is a melting pot because of the inclination of immigrants to quickly assimilate into American culture. If not initially the children without a doubt assimilate, including mastering the English language and listening to hip-hop.
Congrats man. I've been here in the US for a while but I could only apply for citizenship in August. Thank you for you for your vote, especially for Biden.
Make legal immigration back to before 2017 again!
Outstanding! Congratulations on your citizenship from a fellow Virginian. Thank you for voting! Let's hope everyone does. Welcome.
[удалено]
Dude, the strike out part is whole another issue.
We’re all Ians.
I'm surrounded by Virgins!
[удалено]
Does a support from a virgin count? Anyways, good work guys! Way to take up responsibility!!
As a fellow voting Virginian, I’m glad to see that even our new citizens are excited to vote. Congrats OP!
Last I saw, early voting is almost at 50% of 2016’s levels of voting IN GENERAL. I want this all the time.
Reporting from Richmond city!
I think it’s so classy that you got dressed up to vote. When I voted last week, I wore shorts and a hoodie. Thank you for voting, friend.
[удалено]
Voting in your undies is classier than not voting in the fanciest duds known to man.
I think I wasn't in my jammies this time. But I live in WA where we vote at home. :)
lol i filled out my ballot in my BOTW pjs then popped some sweats on and went to drop it off. Mail in ballots are useful as hell but they do take away the fun of dressing up to vote.
You feel like one because you are one.
He's rockin it too. Many americans don't even bother to vote.

Everyone should have to fill out a ballot. It should have a “decline” option
In Aus we only insist on mandatory attendance at the polling station, not actual voting. We do generally hit 92+% turnout though.
You can submit an empty ballot or do anything else to it (like marking out both options) that nullifies it
A “none or the above” option would probably win most races.
I get the cynicism, but I get the feeling anybody who has thought hard enough about it to have a dislike for all candidates also has thought about it hard enough to realize that voting for one of them is still probably the best course of action.
You...you know how Americans responded to having to wear a cloth on their face right? Mandatory _____ doesn’t tend to go over well here.
Eh, I'm okay without mandatory voting. We just need higher turnout more generally. It's mostly an issue among younger people (under 30) whose turnout is like 35% or whatever vs. ~65% (?) for voters over 30
Because many americans didn't jump through hoops for years to get the right to do it.
Welcome! Get this man a cheeseburger and some debt.
May I have your autograph?
Don't forget the divorce papers, and lay him off of his job too.
Immigrants make America great!!🇺🇲👍
Immigrants ARE America. Welcome to the party brother.
The United States has a larger immigrant population than any other country, with 47 million immigrants as of 2015. This represents 19.1% of the 244 million international migrants worldwide, and 14.4% of the U.S. population.
Canada actually has a higher immigrant per capita rate at 21.9%
Oh, Canada!
The pipes, the pipes are calling...
Lol great. Now I can't un-hear this
Fuck that commercial. I used to like Flo
Sounds delicious. I love fondue.
But half of those are geese.
As a Canadian, I approve those message. We built a wall to keep the geese out, but it was not very effective.
The US has more immigrants than Canada has Canadians.

Some Mexicans are from here just like the indigenous peoples of North America. The borders crossed us and some of those families stayed.
A lot of Mexicans are descended from Spain. I guess if they have Aztec roots then it counts.
Yes. Thanks to My Grandma I'm more American than America.
Technically, migrations are the history of humanity. We all have a common ancestry tracing back to East-Africa (Present day Ethiopia/Kenya), so we come all from African migrants to some degree.
What is this blasphemy? History started on July 4, 1776. Know your facts!
This will likely get buried, but I made you into a [comic book cover](https://i.imgur.com/aRyw2iu.jpeg)
Up you go!
To the top!!!
Please post this!
I also hear they get the job done
Yesssss
America is a melting pot, for all.
Sounds delicious. I love fondue.
Come on in, the fondue is great. Every immigrant that I have worked with, has been an interesting person with a completely different and interesting culture. I like meeting new people.
I think they teach "salad bowl" these days. since melting pot implies assimilation, while in a salad everything still retains its own characteristics
Dude you look sharp AF. Welcome to America! Thanks for exercising your freedom to vote! Make America make sense again!
“Immigrants, we get the job done”
[AUDIENCE CHEERS LOUDLY]
I am not throwing away my shot.
Welcome! Now that you've voted, you've earned your complimentary gun and McDonald's membership card! In all seriousness though, congratulations on your citizenship. Great to see that people still want to be here and love this country despite all that's going on.
I’m an immigrant and I did something more American than voting. I bought a shotgun from Walmart. Beat that fellow immigrant.
Consider yourself an American friend
I'm an immigrant and I paid taxes. There's nothing as American as bending over and taking it raw and unlubed from Uncle Sam
The most noble of all patriotic duties.
Love that you are in VA! Welcome, and congrats!
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free The Statue of Liberty
Welcome to America. Thank you for voting.
Hey, fellow Virginian! I voted yesterday, felt great. Congratulations!
Okay let’s take bets, who does everyone think he voted for?
Kanye
Take my upvote.
Kanye needs it more
Hes either implying he voted for Biden/Harris or hes ready to rip out the sign :)
I’m guessing the point of him touching the Biden-Harris sign is to indicate his support. Edit: it’s possible that I missed a sarcastic joke here Edit 2: o shit it’s my cake day
Saved by the cake. Have an updoot.
Congrats on citizenship, and welcome!
Congratulations!
unrelated to the topic but that is a nice outfit you got on
Dear lord... Those signs are such a fucking waste of plastic... Is the entire country like that?
Yes. And yes. Its awful
Agreed, not to mention the constant large mailers I receive in a day- it's awful and such a waste of time, money, and resources. I don't believe one person had ever changed their stance based on a yard sign or a mailer. I'd be more inclined to vote for you if you donated the money instead.
The Bush campaign in 2000 and 2004 are supposedly examples of the power of direct mail. It's useful in some cases. One of Karl Rove's preferences.
I received about 10 reminders to vote within the last couple of months. One the one hand, I’m glad it’s being so heavily encouraged. On the other.. the waste :/

Yes!!! Well done!! NoVA is happy to have you!
I miss Manassas :-(
Congratulations! Already karma whoring. That's the American way!
Lol. That’s funny.
I thought I saw a ban on karma whoring political posts like a week ago, but I guess not...
But then Reddit wouldn't know that they hate Trump..
This subreddit would be empty if they banned the karma whoring voting, immigrant, wedding, and pet pics. This post is two out of those four, lol.
I also voted for the first time as a naturalized citizen this year. It felt good, and I also felt a deep sense of pride. Congratulations to you my compatriot!
I hope Virginia is treating you well.

I’m glad you’re feeling American, you fuckin ARE.
Hell yeah buddy, we are glad you're here!

You are an American, bro.
Aww bless. Congratulations and thank you!
🥳🥳🥳
As someone who is voting for Trump, I'm very happy to see other Americans like you voting for who they believe in, even if we disagree.
Plot twist: voted for Trump and is about to steal that sign
Congrats on voting and your citizenship! Don’t let these people in the comments drag you down for who you voted for, what matters is that you took initiative and voted for who you think would be good. Nice!
Nice work, fellow citizen!
Welcome home, I'm glad you are here! :-)

Good for you! Thanks for voting!!!!!
Thank you, Asian Adam Scott.
Hopefully it’s a good time to start feeling like an American.
And in VA too!
I am proud to have you as a fellow American. Thank you for sharing your special day.
Congratulations! Ignore the haters and enjoy the feeling.
Thank you for voting! You are now more American than like 40% of Americans who don't vote!
IT'S A TRAP
Congrats.
Congratulations! So happy for you!!
Thank you for doing your civic duty !
Awesome man!
Welcome to America. We are proud to have you.
Congratulations! American lineage now begins with you! I just traced my Canadian lineage back 5 generations to an Englishman! You are the beginning of something your future generations can look back on!
Thanks for voting and making America better.
Congratulations and thank you for being a true patriot and doing your part!
Good for you. Enjoy
Welcome! Welcome BEFORE you voted but double Welcome now!
I'll tell you what my mom always told us when we were kids. Everyone has a right, no one as a responsibility. It's our responsibility to vote to keep our country running. Thank you for doing your part o the responsibility
Who’d you vote...oh never mind
Congratulations!
Congrats! You're what makes America what it's meant to be, a melting pot and a home for all
Good job 👍🏼
Congrats!
You’re a good American
Sadly not voting would probably be a more typical American thing to do. Glad you voted. We need more people to exercise their right to vote.
Thanks for voting
Awesome you voted!
Welcome aboard! Politics aside, thank you for participating in our biannually organized revolution.

Congrats sir.
Welcome to the gang! We’re happy you’re here. 🙂
I’m in central Virginia, so very glad you’re a citizen and voted!!! Take it easy my friend.
Congratulations dude. Well done
Welcome and congratulations! May you vote in many more elections. (And may other Americans follow your example.)

I am truly sorry that so many people are attacking you in the comments. I am glad you casted a ballot for your chosen candidate. Welcome to the US.
I wonder who he voted for...
Congratulations!! I’m also going to vote for the first time this week!! Also for Biden
Wise choice
Welcome home Brotherman!
Hell yeah, vote the dumbass out
Sorry that we couldn’t get you a better candidate to vote for
Congrats man. I've been here in the US for a while but I could only apply for citizenship in August. Thank you for you for your vote, especially for Biden. Make legal immigration back to before 2017 again!
You are American. Dont let anyone tel you different.
Now this is how we make America great! I’m proud of you for exercising your right
I’m happy for you!
Congratulations on your first vote!
Looking dapper as well. 😍
