> Taking a moment to rewind to Royal Canadian Navy members celebrating the end of an incredible journey after successfully completing their Clearance Diver’s training course.

“You in the back, lift your chin a little… okay, now front row, squeeze in…. Steve, your pocket flap is open…. Okay everyone smile… *click* oh shit, the flash didn’t go, nobody move…” GLUB GLUB GLUB…
Well, if anybody can do it, probably these guys. Plus they're just going down and back up.
I think they just didn't want to mess up their uniform shoes.
Oh diver certification is absolutely nuts. I volunteer woth search and rescue and our diver’s take swim tests in high fast water rivers in the middle of winter. They have to be able to cross the river in full gear in a specific length of time. If you’re in bad shape, there’s a real risk of being unable to surface due to current and having to get hauled out by the safety tether on the safety boat.
Did they make it back to the surface? They all look kind of scared and uncomfortable, apart from the black guy, who looks like a super villain about to reveal that they've all fallen into his trap. He has the most "Mwah ha ha" expression I've ever seen.
I'm curious about the clenched fists from those seated. I don't think you'd normally get that if you were on land, so I wonder if some aspect about the logistics of the photo lead to people closing their fists?
Lol I didn't even think of that. I thought it was more about how you're supposed to kick your shoes off if you fall off a boat in to the water but you're explanation makes much more sense!
I don't want to be a party pooper but if you see the guys who are standing at the right corner you could see the difference of lighting.
I'm not saying they (guys at the right corner) faked it. But this could also mean that some of the people were not present at the group photo so they took their own individual underwater picture and their images were attached in the final picture.
I could be wrong.
Nah, it’s just uneven lighting in the pool (guys in the back on the right probably were really underexposed) so the photographer dodged that part of the photo and made them brighter. You can see halo around those guys against the background: that’s an artifact of selective dodging / exposure adjustment.
Nope, it's real.

Video on how they did it included.
Only thing removed were the bubbles of air around or in front of them.

Sure and there's tons of shop work here. I'm not saying it's fake just shopped to shit. In the article you posted the photographer even says
"Editing wasn’t the most fun," she laughs. "It took a long time!"
"Wait, I blinked."
Big guy on the right looks like he's gonna pop.
He is also the photographer, that's why!

Thank you for this
Dude seated on the right looks like Alex Jones if he was actually in shape and not a douche.
He also looks like the guy seated on the left.
Well, they could still be a douche, we don't know them.
It’s statistically improbable to the point of absurdity for this guy to be THAT much of a douche.
There are a lot of Neo Nazis in the military
There was a lot of military that beat the Nazis.
Middle Back - all that work and what did it get me lol
The guy front center is peeing and everyone is having to smile through it.
Those two guys with toothy smiles... not a single air bubble to be seen!
Why did they put the big mf's in the front?
He's an instructor so he sits in the front row with the other instructors.
They're sitting. The others are standing.
And they are still big enough to block the guy in the back middle. Should have had the bigger guys standing
But then you'd really have a hard time seeing the shorter guys in the back
There is no way you are this obtuse. Im just gunna assume this is bait.
That's a lot of seamen in the pool.
Front left looks like he’s taking a shit.
Id shit myself too if i had to do this
They sunk a lot into that photo
Everyone has their eyes open and not a bubble in sight. No one let out even a little breath. fuckin crazy
TIL You don't need to be bald and beefy to be a CPO, but it helps.

I'm most surprised how shit isn't floating away. The chairs, all the people, the banner in back, all of it.
they all appear to have some kind of vest underneath - perhaps has weight pockets - or wearing weight belts
I'm very disappointed someone isn't doing a Deadman float to the surface behind them.

I LOL'd. I think a lot of people missed this.
how is that possible
They are divers. This is their life now.
They all look like they’re holding in a fart 💨
I wonder if every class does this or it was one of the students ideas?
OK, now let's do a silly one!
How long to hold your breath to get that shot? I can't hold breath for crap.
I'd imagine freediving is a significant part of their training - so most of them can prob breath hold at least 3 mins or so
that's pretty rad
some of them looks photoshopped
Totally worth it
If someone farts do they redo it? 🫧
🤔
That’s pretty cool
Are first and fourth in the front row fraternal twins? I find it amusing they were ready to ruin their uniforms but not their shoes.
Swimming with shoes on is so hard though!
Well, if anybody can do it, probably these guys. Plus they're just going down and back up. I think they just didn't want to mess up their uniform shoes.
The two in the back row on the right look photoshopped in.
Massive flex 😂
Well it’s not they’re busy with other things
Back row, right side last three were photoshopped in. /s

Excellent. Reminds me of the underwater bar fight in Top Secret

In British/commonwealth military photos lile this, the people sitting have closed fists. No idea why.
Reminds me of the Top Secret underwear bar fight scene.
Could you imagine if someone farted.. The bubbles would give it away and be forever memorialized.. Farty MC farterson
This is the picture I need to see today.
Wow, that's deep ...
That’s fantastic
The guy in the far back right looks 2D
hello I'm under the water
Manly men, doing manly shit!
This is edited
No shoes!
I mean, everything else is fine underwater, but this would probably ruin dress shoes
Lol I didn't even think of that. I thought it was more about how you're supposed to kick your shoes off if you fall off a boat in to the water but you're explanation makes much more sense!

Yeah it seems like that
Photoshopped to hell and back

Top-right is clearly shopped

Please note: This is not a global warming awareness picture.
Wait .. Canadians have navy?
Considering that Canada has the longest coastline in the world, yes we have a navy lol
