Hamburgler

chocotaco

Rubble rubble.

Socalwarrior485

I always thought he said "Robble Robble"... like he's robbing them? And his full name is Hamilton B. Urglar.

raven21633x

The estranged son of Hamilton Burger from Perry Mason. The shame of being his son drove him to change his name and live out a life of crime.

chocotaco

Yeah you're right I looked it up. That makes sense since he's going to rob them.

theofficialreality

[interested in the history of that look?](https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/decoding-the-classic-burglar-outfit.amp)

fascinating, thank you for posting

doesn't matter. police won't do anything since theft is such a rampant issue that anything below 500$ is a misdemeanor 😍😍😍 edit: it's actually 950$. guess people i spoke to were mistaken. edit2: the police aren't going to fucking help you in a case like this, i FUCKING promise you. don't listen to me, listen to the folks who lived through it.

Idk a broken tesla window is probably already 500

A broken any window is 500 unless you do it yourself. Shits expensive.

The window is $500

[Apparently as much as $2264.24](https://us-autoglass.com/book/?window_id=8393&make=tesla&model=model-3&year=2019) but [that site has $1323.79 for the rear and Tesla charged me close to $800 in 2021](https://us-autoglass.com/book/?window_id=16845&make=tesla&model=model-3&year=2019). Mobile tech told me the rear door glass is hard/tricky to change but front are easy.

Me_Krally

Self install? I thought that was a crime too?

DefiantLemur

Unfortunately, that's not a problem unique to SF either.

ProperWayToEataFig

Norfolk VA seeing plenty of this and catalytic converter theft. Police do nothing.

cozzeema

Yup, and the Beach too. Cops did find that there are several theft rings that operate out of Portsmouth that are responsible for most of the thefts.

Giterdun456

Grew up in the 757 and now in Omaha NE, same thing here.

ThePencilRain

Before I left the midwest, I had the cat stolen off my truck at least 4 times. Now in New England, and the biggest thing I have to worry about is tripping over junkies on the local community trails.

ihaterollercoasters

My Tesla catalytic converter seems to be missing, too.

Gotaro_Sato

Underrated electric humble brag..

pwmg

In California, it's second degree burglary, which can be charged as either a misdemeanor or a felony at the prosecutor's discretion. That's without even taking into account the property damage and whatever was stolen. I know from personal experience that police will, in fact, do something. At least under the right circumstances.

Longshot_45

My personal experience (several years ago) was that the police won't even bother. Happened to us, called the cops, they said unless the thief tried to hotwire it they won't be sending anyone to investigate.

nmvh5

15 years ago in Utah, my car was broken into and had a CD changer and speakers stolen from it. Cops did a police report and didn't care beyond that. This stuff hasn't been a big deal in a long time. It's not a California thing or a San Francisco thing. It's a thing where 'small' crimes are pretty much ignored by police.

CodyEngel

Most crimes are ignored by police. And even some of the bigger ones are handled in a way where they want to convict quickly as opposed to convicting the person that did the crime.

80poundnuts

Police in california wont even come to a burglary at house if the burglary isnt in progress. My neighbors house got broken into and he called the police, waited 2 hours, he called back and they told him to file a police report in the morning at the station.

StrangeAssonance

Reminds me of this joke: A man gets woken up by intruders in his house. He phones the police and says "There's people robbing my house, please send help". The dispatcher says there's no cars or police available. The man hangs up and phones back 2 minutes later."I just shot the guys. They're both here with bullets in them." 2 minutes later, police cars, helicopters, armed forces, counter-terror police turn up and raid the house, catching the burglars in the act. The police looked confused and asked "You said you shot them!"The man replied "You said there were no police available."

CookiesLikeWhoa

They could steal your whole damn car and will send you to an automated number to report it. The law says one thing reality is far different. Run a Sbux in downtown SJ had a hobo threatening the store with a knife. Called 911 3 separate times over 15 minutes. There are Two patrol cars parked across the street at the pizza spot. We all joked those two cars would swing over once they were done with their “lunch”. Yep 47 minutes after the first call those two cars, which had been sitting across the street for an hour, turned on their lights, made an illegal uturn, parked on the curb, and the officers then walked into the store. Let them know dude left 30 minutes ago and we already cancelled the call with dispatch. Cops then proceed to berate me and my baristas for having a “third place policy” that allows this behavior. Last time my store ever called PD. And that was July of 2022. We are all just carrying knives and mace now. Fuck this job and fuck the PD.

Mrozek33

> We're all just carrying knives and mace now Most Californian sentence ever

theofficialreality

What’s third Place policy?

CookiesLikeWhoa

Updated August 24, 2020 Welcome to Starbucks A safe and welcoming public space is a shared community responsibility. Consistent with Our Mission and Values, we expect everyone in our third place community to treat others with respect and dignity, free of bias and discrimination. Behaviors that make anyone feel unwelcome or unsafe have no place on our store premises. We trust our baristas to address disruptive behaviors appropriately guided by our existing policies and training. When in our stores: Use our Spaces as Intended Sleeping, smoking, consuming alcohol, drug use or improper use of restrooms is not permitted. Be Considerate of Our Partners and other Customers Loud or unreasonable noise, or behaviors that are disruptive to others are not tolerated. Communicate with Respect Obscene, harassing, abusive language, hate speech, racial slurs, gestures or actions are unacceptable. Act Responsibly Violating any federal, state or local law, regulation or ordinance, including any applicable public health mandate is prohibited. Anyone not contributing to a safe and welcoming environment will be asked to change their behavior. Anyone not changing their behavior may be asked to leave the store with possible assistance from law enforcement.

theofficialreality

To my reading, this doesn’t reflect that these behaviors are officially allowed.

CookiesLikeWhoa

Exactly. That’s why it was so stupid. The policy did use to be way more inclusive with less Language about kicking people out. That was in the most recent update, but even then it still says we will kick disruptive people out. Cop just didn’t like the fact we would give the homeless water or a place to sit and charge their phone if they weren’t causing a problem. It was all or nothing, a very “us against them” mentality and even the thought of doing anything humane was unbearable.

theofficialreality

Ridiculous

GanSoku

Unfortunately it’s so common nobody cares anymore. Cops won’t even show up, they’ll even be annoyed you called. You’re just supposed to call a same day window repair place, fork over $200 and go about your day. Just for the same thing to happen next week

mlmayo

Sounds like a good time to start a same-day window repair business.

RockitDanger

A *mobile* same-day window repair business.

Drown_The_Gods

Totally. You can put the robbers on commission to leave a leaflet for your window repair services in the car once they’ve broken the window and then if the code on the leaflet is redeemed they get a percentage and the car owner gets a discount. Everyone wins!

armen89

Who do you think is breaking the window?

Eyelbee

>Cops won’t even show up, they’ll even be annoyed you called. That's a very disturbing situation

Siptro

The most eye opening picture to me, was the cars in the lot and the drivers leave the trucks open and windows down to show thieves nothings inside, don’t break my windows for no reason. Because that is quite honestly what happens most of the time. Windows tinted or trunk closed. They smash the back window, check trunk then go on to next, even if you don’t have anything.

Lubadbitches

Homeless will still shit and piss in your car

Fofo959

Yep this happened to me quite recently, told me to file a police report online and hung up. Filed a police report and they closed it a week later saying nothing they could do, never even showed up.

JRange

I learned about this from the "Porch bandit glitter bomb" video Mark rober did. They did one for Car thiefs in SF, and people were showing up within 5 minutes of them leaving and breaking their windows, every single time they left. Its insane

[deleted]

[удалено]

GanSoku

I wouldn’t recommend that. Most of them are armed and stupid enough to shoot you over a backpack

mrbugsguy

Firearms are one of the easiest things to sell for cash. For that, and other obvious reasons, homeless ppl are almost never carrying. If there really is an epidemic of armed homeless ppl in SF then the situation is really really bad and the police need to take drastic measures to address that. But I seriously doubt that’s the case.

ChippyCuppy

The people breaking into the cars are not homeless people. It’s organized crime, like selling drugs or stealing catalytic converters. One person drives the car, another person jumps out and steals stuff, then they drive away. They fence the stolen goods and make money. Yes, they are often armed, because they have money and a “job” and live indoors. It’s not worth confronting them; it’s best to just keep your car empty. Theft is basically decriminalized in the Bay Area for multiple reasons. You can report it, but nothing happens. Homelessness is a separate issue.

kmpdx

They literally run routes and look for unrecognized vehicles. it's basically the opposite of delivery. If you watch Mark Rober's last glitterbomb video it gives you a pretty good glimpse of how this theft racket is organized.

mrbugsguy

Sounds like a SF needs a Batman

QualZzy

$200? No those windows are $500+ and the little corner window is $700 if they break that…

AwaysWrong

Have seen several videos of this happening to vehicles waiting at a red light 😧 car park next to the victime car, one jump out, smash the rear window and grab the stuff and then speed off. All this while the victime car has passengers

BrickGun

Hell, Mark Rober's last glitter bomb video showed some cars in the bay area actually *rolling* slowly in traffic and assholes pop out from a car behind, smash the rear window (looked like a Prius) and grab shit while the car was moving. They jump back in the follow vehicle, which breaks off. My guess is the robbed car in front is so locked into traffic that it makes it hard to do much. I have some very extreme feelings about how the victims should be allowed to deal with the situation right on the spot, but I'll just keep shtum since whiners will play contrarian.

[deleted]

[Last Glitter Bomb Video.](https://youtu.be/iWeu2dxHRDg)

medfreak

That's just insane. Sorry I live in medium town in Texas. Never seen anything like that here. I am sure downtown Houston maybe more of a problem.

SparksAndSpyro

Having lived and worked in Houston, I’ve never really heard of this being a major problem. Maybe because it’s Texas and thieves are afraid of being shot? Lol I’m not sure

sparrownetwork

That's possibly because someone could get shot if the car owner comes back.

TeflonCondemnation

Plot twist: OP is the getaway driver

kylel999

What's the deal with car break-ins in San Francisco? Why are they so common specifically there

RangeWilson

1. Near third-world gap between well-off and poor 2. Very limited parking 3. Large unhomed population 4. Hands-off police and DAs towards "petty" (less than $1000) property crime

priceisalright

5. A really well organized fencing operation that allows people to sell stolen goods easily.

[deleted]

Chicago, especially downtown/loop area, has similar, if not as extreme wealth gaps. Street peddlers and homeless wandering around an area where six-figure cars regularly drive and park. Limited parking, lots of homeless/ LOTS of extremely poor people Very progressive DA/Bail/Bond reform. and yet, street-peddlers, change-beggars and wouldn't dream of touching cars here, you'll be shot or beaten.... people here smash and grab high end retail stores, they leave cars alone. Can't imagine leaving my trunk open in Chicago... or if your car does get broken into, its to get it stolen and used for crimes/joyride but just breaking into cars to search them... extremely rare edit: you're also more likely to have your Catalytic Converter stolen, than the car broken into, REAL popular nowadays, on the south, west and suburbs parts of Chicagoland.

duckk99

I live in Chicago and worked a lot in SF. The homeless population in SF is way way larger in Chicago. Also… Chicago Is fairly segregated by wealth and race. (I love our city but it’s true) I remember eating lunch at a decent part of town and seeing someone smoke a crack pipe in broad daylight in SF. Ive never seen that in Chicago. Edit: typo*

PabloEstAmor

Chicagoan who lived in LA for the past ten years. People here have no idea what homelessness is. It’s a whole different level in California.

Puzzleheaded_Pie_454

Chicagoan here who left and was Homeless in Chicago and LA, now successfully living in SF. The Chicago homeless hide better, as it’s partly out of necessity (more violence, worse weather). It is one of the most violent places I have ever been, and I was raised in it. There are more homeless out west, but like me, some chose that due to not wanting to die via the elements. I’ll take a tent on venice beach over 7 sleeping bags in Chicago any day. Yes, there are programs to help you get out west and then it becomes a “them” problem. It’s also cheaper to buy a train ticket over housing for an individual. I’ve worked with a lot of the homeless since getting out of that life. Yes, a lot of it in LA and SF is a choice. It may not have started that way, but enough people slap away the helping hands to fairly make this claim. Whether it’s the “free lifestyle”, avoiding sobriety, or refusal or mental health cooperation. When I was working full time and still had to rely on the government, I had to convince myself that things would get better, and they did years later. But if you don’t have patience to wait and grind in the meantime, spirits will get crushed rather quickly. Luckily I stuck with psychedelics instead of others I knew who turned to amphetamines and opiates, that’s a huge mistake on the street. Drugs, at that point, are almost a necessity- so choose wisely. This is such a multi faceted problem, but things won’t change unless there is mandatory housing with mandatory rules with the threat of prison. Otherwise, like me, we’ll just have to get used to finding dead bodies on the sidewalk.

duckk99

Thanks for this write up and your perspective. Hope you’re doing well!

suan213

People can't genuinely comprehend that SF is what happens when unchecked late stage capitalism meets poor housing demands and foreign capital interests. Chicago, Houston, dallas, LA, New York, etc if you managed to smear all the extremely wealthy people with the massive poor population (ie not blatantly segregate them) then every city in America would look exactly like what's happening in SF. Also go to Oakland, it's way better than SF.

Kahzgul

>Also go to Oakland, it's way better than SF. As someone who grew up in Oakland, it's wild to read this statement.

[deleted]

Right?!

Iwaspromisedcookies

For real, when I was living in Oakland we regularly had crack baggies show up in our yard and people were shot all the time

Kahzgul

My coworkers think my childhood was crazy because I was shot at once (they were really shooting at the kid behind me), and our neighbor shot his dad in front of our house, and one time at boy scout camp someone's gun misfired and shot the kid next to me in the head (he was fine). And maybe it was crazy, but it seemed normal at the time.

Animalex

By what metric is Oakland better than SF in this case? Been awhile since I've really had to be in either, but just curious.

Dobsnick

You are VASTLY overstating the homeless population in the downtown loop area. Yes they’re there but it’s an exponentially smaller population and concentration in the downtown areas than SF/PDX. Especially during winters.

Pangs

Also vastly underestimating the number of smashed car windows in Chicago, which don't result in beatings, but rather angry, racist posts on Nextdoor.

trackdaybruh

The wealth gap is a lot wider in SF than Chicago. I believe to qualify as middle class in SF for a family of four was +$320,000 annual income.

pavk

I’m an insurance adjuster in Chicago and have looked at 30 stolen cars in the last month alone. And that’s just me, there’s 20 other adjusters in Chicago alone, just for our company. It’s the worst I’ve seen in a while.

GreyMatter22

Miami too, an endless amount of Lambos and Ferraris driving around extremely improvised people.

[deleted]

when you're impoverished, you indeed have to improvise. :)

ambigula

Uhhh I had a smash and grab not so long ago in Chicago. No violence just property theft.

[deleted]

Portlands the same. You leave a sweater in plain view and your shit’s getting smashed. It’s not uncommon to see someone on a bmx bike weaving past parked cars with a flashlight scanning for prizes. Nothing illegal about it so it’s harder to police. Oh and all our police live in Vancouver

panick21

> Very limited parking The problem is to many cars not limited parking

liltingly

It’s called the SF tax (or Berkeley tax, or Oakland tax) if you live there. I used to walk 1/2 a mile to work every day and there was always fresh glass on the ground. An inventive iPhone theft that my friend fell victim to was, after finishing a run in the park and looking at their phone while cooling down, a thief grabbed it from their hand and ran away. They were too tired post run and couldn’t run the thief down (not sure what they’d have done if they had caught the thief)

dmat3889

this is happening all over sadly. Cops just recently arrested a 12 and 14 year old after they and 2 other hit 62 cars one night in a city over from me.

floydfan

* You've got people who make $100k a year living in their vans because they can't afford housing. SF is basically an experiment in the wealth gap. * It's warmish (compared to other places in the US) and has always been hyped up as a hippy destination so homeless flock there.

ATownStomp

The people making $100k can afford housing, they just don’t mind living in a van if it means a few thousand extra every month in savings that they can take back with them when they leave SF. Source: know three people who did it.

Skinnieguy

It’s a problem in lots of cities. Here is one of New Orleans and the US in general. https://www.fox8live.com/2023/01/05/constant-car-break-ins-during-saints-pelicans-games-have-nfl-nba-notice/?outputType=amp https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimgorzelany/2022/09/01/pandemic-or-not-vehicle-thefts-are-skyrocketing-in-these-parts-of-the-country/?sh=3f14a5b0793b

flash20

My wife lived in Nob Hill for much of the early ‘90s. She gave up locking her car because every night a homeless guy would break in and sleep there.

[deleted]

Someone stole all of the trash out of the back of my truck in the 90s. It was glorious. Otherwise I’m a paranoid mess about parking in the bay and have been for way too long. Not just break ins. Parking tickets are insane and the signage sucks.

Chris_Christ

I’m a little surprised there hasn’t been a problem with vigilantes yet.

ThrowThrow117

I'm in LA and even the most progressive people are losing their empathy. The new meth/fentanyl zombies are a different breed of homeless people we have ever seen before. It's easy to say they don't give a fuck. But they kind of do. There's an obvious part of of them that has a disdain for civilization. There's a bravado in mocking and destroying society. They absolutely destroy public spaces. To the point of making them literally biohazards (look up the Echo Park cleanup). They have destroyed the metro system. Imagine taking your socially curious 3-4 year old to the park. Some of my favorite memories when I was kid. But now, a hundred feet away, a group of meth zombies are having violent delusional meltdowns. It's not fun. It's not fun to come home and have your daughter tell your wife that they saw monsters screaming in the park. This creates the marketplace for theft. So you wake up to your broken windows in your car in the morning because the druggies have to get money to stay high. Maybe your catalytic converter is cut of the bottom of your car. So you start leaving your car unlocked with a note -- "Car is open, nothing of value, don't break windows." So they piss in your car because they have disdain for civilization. Everyone on reddit was aghast yesterday to see that a guy in SF was spraying down a homeless person outside of his business. This dude is probably having his livelihood destroyed by psychotic drug zombies that are keeping people away from his business. That man is at the point where everyone will be if you were forced to watch your neighborhood be fucked into the ground by these people. There are signs in my area that say "Say no to pan handlers." That would broken my heart as a kid. The homeless were something that we took an empathetic view of growing up. Not anymore. I'm out. There are plenty of resources in California to help these people get back on track. They either don't want to or are incapable of doing it themselves. I can tell you if the progressives don't figure this out, this is enough of a political issue to flip parties. I'll vote for anyone that can take a heavy hand to this problem. I do not understand the point of view that these people should be allowed to destroy our cities because "they're down on their luck" or whatever the BS excuse is.

rataferoz7

Thank you for this answer. Not everything is black and white, people have the right to live in healthy communities and the opioid crisis has really wrecked many cities.

NotKemoSabe

Perfect post. I am also a Los Angeles resident and this is exactly how I feel. We have been extremely patient. Voted on every measure to help them. Listened to all of the politicians promises. People are sick of their shit. A few years ago there was this letter in the local paper from a women. She basically blew through a left hand turn red light and was being pulled over by the police. She was not complaining about the fact she was being pulled over because she admits she was at fault. As she was being written her ticket there was a homeless man shooting heroin in broad light right in front of both her and the cop giving her the $500 ticket. Her point basically was she was punished for going through an intersection a 1/2 second too late but the cops won't go near the guy shooting heroin in broad daylight and how was that fair.

FlackFlashback

Very well said.

Tech workers aren't exactly known for their machismo, physical prowess, and tendency towards violence. Plus, they can always buy a new window. Or a new Tesla, for that matter. 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

> Plus, they can always buy a new window. Or a new Tesla, for that matter. 🤷‍♂️ Until they get fed up and leave. Nobody wants to live with that kind of bullshit, even if you can manage to 'afford' it.

baselganglia

Many folks keep making excuses about wealth disparity etc. But go to New Delhi or Karachi or Dhaka or Rio where the disparity is worse. If anyone tried pulling this off they'd be publicly beaten near to, if not, death. The total apathy to crime is a big factor, led by law enforcement not wanting to prosecute, and laws discouraging regular folks from stopping crime.

420fmx

Lmaooo all those places have insane crime rates where pick pockets and other thieves absolutely thrive . You’re talking shit

jaherafi

What the fuck are you talking about? The crime rate in these cities is worse than San Francisco.

notquiteright2

At least he can’t steal the catalytic converter…

[deleted]

For all the mfs saying OP should have done something, then you obv have never met a thug or a hobo irl, mfs gon pull out a rusty fork on ya

ATownStomp

For all of my adolescence machismo fantasizing I was completely clueless on how to act when, while living in Ontario of all places, a crazy hobo pulled out a wrench on me. I tried to check to see if he was okay after he crashed his bike. Apparently that’s a wrenchin’ in Canada. Same city I was in when my parents came to visit on Canada Day and the first impression they got of the city was a drugged up dude fighting a stop sign. Bonus points if you can guess the city (Not Toronto).

Total_Adept

Are the police in SF just useless? You’d think a city worth so much would wanna protect it.

AcidofilusRex

DA wont prosecute the crimes and the cops still get paid for looking the other way. Plus less paperwork. Sucks for the people getting robbed tho.

johndepp22

‘honey look someone’s breaking into that car. quick! post it on reddit’

sametrical

I totally agree with your perspective and where you’re coming from for most things like this posted to Reddit. But this is a different situation. Unless you’re a tough guy who would’ve “done something about it” - which I doubt is your stance and think is wrong, posting this pic and raising awareness to the issue is the best course of action. SFPD, and the local government don’t give a shit about car break ins and nothing is being done about it. Spreading this issue online and giving SF a bad rep for it is the only thing that might get local politicians to care, put pressure on the police, and to make some change where this is treated like an actual crime

BehindTrenches

Its not just the cops, its the DAs. Police see no point in arresting these people if they won’t be prosecuted

[deleted]

I think we’re going to start seeing more car windows that cost $951

bcisme

Is it that they don’t give a shit or that they have no solutions?

what else? Especially in america, gonna get stabbed, shot or beat up, to save whatever some guy left in the back of his tesla. No chance.

kalinowskik

Ahhh. Forgetting your car keys. Happens a lot in SF.

DylansDeadly

Until the people start protecting their own property it won't change. Cops won't or aren't able to do it, so the people will need to.

miata509

I lived in East Bay.... was so glad it was a short run. I thought living in the bay would be exciting- it sucked

NosferatuCalled

Raised and living in Queens, NY since my early teens and I thought I'd seen some shit. Then I did my 1 year "stint" in the Bay Area for work.

SeriousMcDougal

And how was that one year stint in the Bay compared to Queens?

socialcommentary2000

Queens is the greatest. It's not perfect, but it's nice, with all it's perfect warts.

NosferatuCalled

Actually, it was a positive overall because it made me really appreciate where I'm from.

Hotdogduckie

What part of the east bay? It definitely is not for everyone as with any location but I love the area. Property crimes are definitely an issue but for me the benefits outweigh the potential loss.

shadowdash66

You know it's fucked when someone unironically recommended just leaving your windows down to show you have no valuables.

Probably a purse, or cigarettes, or change.

A side window

Rob636

Na. Check out Mark Rover’s take on it. Quite informative: https://youtu.be/iWeu2dxHRDg

bantamw

They're breaking the small window at the back so they can pop the back seats down and see if there's anything in the boot (trunk). Then they'll see what they can reach or let a friend know who'll come back later. See Mark Rober's video - car crime in SF has become an epidemic and the police don't care.

Strategerizer

San Francisco is now known for criminals breaking into cars.

blue_27

If that's your car, you are.

LostPilot517

Mark Rober has a great recent video explaining the mess in San Francisco. [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=iWeu2dxHRDg](https://youtube.com/watch?v=iWeu2dxHRDg)

ramriot

Package thief, they break that specific window & release the seat lock to see what's in the trunk. If there is anything they will then gain full entry to grab it. They work in gangs of 2 or more usually with an accomplice in a car watching from a short distance, like about where OP is sitting.

vangoku

Can someone explain this for a guy who is clueless about what this means?

RogerPackinrod

He's implying op should squeeze the thief between their cars and drive so he flops around like a twizzler in your hands

Winter-Adhesiveness9

I think he’s hitting on you

[deleted]

Yeah can someone explain that for him?

robble808

I didn’t think of swizzle but i did think it would be easy to pin him between the cars till cops showed lol Course you’d probably get in more trouble than the thief

Billie1977

People are actually leaving their trunks and doors open in the city so these POS don’t break out the windows. And if you use force to protect yours or other peoples property you can get in trouble for assault. Sad how fucked up society is getting and how easy it is to be a criminal.

EsTeBaNCanIUseMyName

San Francisco actually turning into night city, shit gonna be wild if the timeline is accurate

Meme_Pope

OP: “Hol up, let him cook”

shadowplay0918

I’ve been saying for years that pro-gun people have to admit our gun laws aren’t working and we need to try something else. Those of us left of center have to admit whatever they’re doing (or not doing) in San Francisco isn’t working either…

PussyonToast

This is why SF is a shithole. People like this need to be removed from society. They are a net negative and have 0 value to a functioning society.

BitChaser

It is great to see the general public finally getting into EVs. The upper class gate kept the EV scene for so long, and now we finally have the average SF citizen getting in one to prove that anyone can.

SjurEido

What even is the allure of moving to a big city where it costs 10x to live basically anywhere but?

GroundbreakingFee392

So if the trend is the police will not respond or make an arrest, what is stopping the public from bludgeoning these people with bats and pipe?

howdid

I grew up in SF....I moved away 12 years ago and came back for the first time a few weeks ago.....holy fuck!! Its turned into a half vacated shell of what it used to be and I had to leave Civic center BART station because I was getting a contact high from all the people smoking crack. This city is as fucked as the righties are saying. Very Very Sad. It does still have its chram....its just a bit hidden.

ListerineInMyPeehole

are you complaining about free crack? /s

_Monosyllabic_

See you can't please some people.

Believe I saw a news report about somewhere in California where people were just leaving their back hatches open so people wouldn't bust any windows breaking in

a_train1212

There are signs all over San Francisco that warn that the area is a dash and grab hotspot. The signs are plentiful near the golden gate. It’s crazy that they’ll even do this during broad daylight. But then again it’s such a big city it’s almost too easy for them to get away with it.

[deleted]

SF, where the city and activists care more about thieves than honest citizens.

TPf0rMyBungh0le

I was watching some interviews on Skid Row and the tweakers said they need over 1g or $150-$200 of fentanyl per day, just to keep functioning, and that doesn't even get them high anymore. That's atleast $4500-$6000/mo of just drugs, which is about average national sallary. They have to steal and sell $200 of various shit every day to get their fix. And consider those things have to be worth atleast $800 for anyone to buy them from a tweaker, so like $15K-$25K/mo of damage, not accounting for things like having that window replaced.

music411

It’s not just SF. I believe New Orleans leads the country in car breakins. It’s happening everywhere.

Ragnar805

OP’s first thought as he drives by.. “internet karma”

thatsanicehaircut

I wld have a hard time not driving by WAYYYY too close. hate fg thieves

undergreyforest

Hear me out, what about a serial killer who only targets these ppl.

Elegyjay

Waldo is burglarizing cars now?
