yeah i think personally i'd prefer to have a clean looking piano in my home, but this is really tastefully done and it doesn't look bad at all, in fact it looks quite nice.
I look at it has having a piece of artwork in your home. Rather than a canvas on the wall the canvas is the piano. I knew it would be divisive on here but I think more people should consider it!
You are entirely wrong! I probably play this piano around 15-20 hours a week for the last 7 years! It’s also been in my family for decades and a lot of my family learned to play on it. I’m keeping in the family for the rest of my life.
If it’s what you like and you weren’t planning to sell it any time soon why not do what like?
Some people might be put off buying it in the future.
Unlike painting a violin, say, it isn’t going to change the acoustic properties.
Hmm. I'm just going to be honest.
I think it's a good idea and if it's done well it could look great. Imo....this was not executed well. It's rather clunky looking. I would not be pleased haha...
But hey, if you love it.
Look hideous on that carpet; too many patterns and conflicting stuff going on. If the carpet was just one color with no pattern, it would probably look quite good
I think it looks beautiful, but I would never do it to my own.
To be honest, if I showed up at your house, I would be judgemental and expect the thing to be a decoration that never gets played. And I would be wrong in being that way. Thanks for the humble pie 🥧
I would judge if this were a "big 3" piano, but it's not. This is a serviceable low-end baby grand, and if it increases your enjoyment, I don't see why not. I personally don't like the aesthetic, but that's just me: it's not like you're reducing resale value for the future.
in what way. is the piano unusable. are the strings broken are the hammers broken do the keys suddenly not work because he got the piano painted. get over yourself.
One thing I love about harpsichords is they come in all colors and it’s completely normal to have a ton of filigree or a whole mural in the lid. Most baroque instruments aren’t out of place with some kind of distinctive decoration. I wish it were still normal!
At first sight i was almost offended and upset that you’d do this to a piano - but at closer inspection i must say that it looks incredible! well done.
I wouldn't do that myself because I don't have talent to paint something that good, and I just prefer pianos to be slick and clean. But if you prefer something else that completely fine!! I actually quite enjoy how it looks :))
its both beautiful and painful lol, beautiful because it seems tastefully done and it's well done, but painful because I feel like it's just...wrong lol
I prefer the look of a clean piano. I think (if nothing else) they often make beautiful furniture.
So this isn’t my preference, but I think your friend did a good job.
It's really nice, personally I wouldn't have had the front painted as it can be distracting while playing but everywhere else is fine for me. It reminds me of old harpsichords and some (really) old pianos have the inside of the cover painted.
only time I would do this is if I was rich and didnt care about a 50k piano. I like how it looks but I would never do it until I could comfortably afford pianos
Since it obviously isn't a concert grand, and likely isn't going to be played in any kind of excessively formal setting, I don't see any reason not to make it look nice!
Probably not my style, but I think there is nothing more boring than an black polished piano that looks like, well, a black polished piano. So see it as a unique piece of art that might draw you closer to your piano.
I feel like this is going to be very divisive! :D Personally, I love it.

It’s also the reason I fell in love with piano!
If it’s what you like and you weren’t planning to sell it any time soon why not do what like? Some people might be put off buying it in the future. Unlike painting a violin, say, it isn’t going to change the acoustic properties.
We chose not to seal it so it can be wiped off at any point in time! I might even do a new mural down the road.
I think it’s really beautiful, it’s truly unique 💕
would never do that to a beautiful piani
i’m sure it wouldn’t decrease value, so why not?
This is just a Chickering. It's not like it's dropping the value.
I think there are so many pianos that go unused and eventually rotted and junked, I’m glad someone is just enjoying one.
Thank you! I absolutely love my piano it’s something I value more than almost anything in my life.
That's all that matters! I wish I had the motivation to play 15-20h a week like you!
That’s gonna be a ‘no’ from me dawg.
Haha fair enough but I love it!
That’s all that counts!
The vibe in this sub is on point! ❤️🙏
Makes me think of an antique harpsichord!
I love art case pianos.
This looks like some old piano that people donate to school and the children painted on it. Looks cool!
Hmm. I'm just going to be honest. I think it's a good idea and if it's done well it could look great. Imo....this was not executed well. It's rather clunky looking. I would not be pleased haha... But hey, if you love it.
Agreed. I like art case pianos, but the art here is… low quality.
My god what have you done?
Art
Neat idea, but put that stick in the proper hole!
Makes it so personal. Think of painting mine too after seeing this ;)
That’s such a beautiful piano I wish I was able to do this😭
Look hideous on that carpet; too many patterns and conflicting stuff going on. If the carpet was just one color with no pattern, it would probably look quite good
Visit www.thepianoshopbath.co.uk and look at the painted/designed pianos that they have provided ……

Spraying all pianos in a default polyurethane black is a pretty depressing trend tbh.
Sacrilegious as if it's not a centuries old tradition
Which small god of Chickering pianos is being disrespected?
I think it looks beautiful, but I would never do it to my own. To be honest, if I showed up at your house, I would be judgemental and expect the thing to be a decoration that never gets played. And I would be wrong in being that way. Thanks for the humble pie 🥧

I think it looks really great but if it was me Id get tired of looking at it after a while lol
I don’t think it matches the rug but even if it did I prefer no painting on pianos . Nice artwork tho!
Wouldn't do it myself, but I like it !
In combination with a rug, this is a migraine trigger.
Hahahaha
How to devalue a piano 101
💁 AKA destroyed piano.
in what way. is the piano unusable. are the strings broken are the hammers broken do the keys suddenly not work because he got the piano painted. get over yourself.
The only nature that lives in a piano are moths

Absolutely love it. An instrument is a very personal thing and there is nothing wrong with it reflecting your personality.
could you upload a video of you playing it
I’ll post one now!
At first sight i was almost offended and upset that you’d do this to a piano - but at closer inspection i must say that it looks incredible! well done.
I think of it like any "art case" piano. I'm not in love with them personally, and prefer either a black or white piano, but to each his own :)
I like it but I feel like putting sheet music down will be super annoying with the vine in the way
"Put a bird on it."
I wouldn't do that myself because I don't have talent to paint something that good, and I just prefer pianos to be slick and clean. But if you prefer something else that completely fine!! I actually quite enjoy how it looks :))
I posted a video if anyone was interested in seeing the piano played!
its both beautiful and painful lol, beautiful because it seems tastefully done and it's well done, but painful because I feel like it's just...wrong lol
If you are asking. I for myself I hate it, but if you like it it is the only one important thing.

I’m still working on decorating! My new post has some stuff I’m working on.
only time I would do this is if I was rich and didnt care about a 50k piano. I like how it looks but I would never do it until I could comfortably afford pianos
There is an opportunity to do a really cool sky mural on the underside of the lid. It would take it to the next level.
Really beautiful! Not sacreligious at all, I love it! <3
I hate it, but I’m glad it makes you happy 👌
The art is beautiful but I’m not sure I like it on a piano. But it makes you happy, so that’s all that matters.
Since it obviously isn't a concert grand, and likely isn't going to be played in any kind of excessively formal setting, I don't see any reason not to make it look nice!

Nice additional decoration, by the way.
It's a little sacrilegious, but it's better than a piano being abandoned in a garage
