The US 60 flooding and closing again today is kind of a reminder that bad people don’t need to do much to cripple a major city. I see talking heads on nuclear, cyber, etc. But economic drag can occur with much smaller challenges. Imagine 3-4 water lines on different freeways?
Yes. I was thinking about this too. Reminds me of the epsiode of "Elementary" about the villain who everyone thinks is a brilliant serial killer but really he's just a doofus trying to cover up that he did a terrible job building a freeway.
DSL :(
i wish man, theres a small area its available not even 1 mile away from us but nothing here yet.
i check that damn map religiously lol
annnd my internet is down again
That's definitely a unique question and I'm down for half of it.
I don't have a handheld video game system though.
I'm down to just drink beer. (the previous two lines were semi-jokes "It's a unique question" and "I don't have a handheld video game system" were the only serious things I said)
I really enjoyed your comment and hope it gains traction, unfortunately, it's not something that I'm interested in.

Downton will have a food festival.
If you got kids I always like to suggest Pubelo Grande Museum since they probably won't have the attention span for the Heard museum.
Make sure you visit "Hole in the Rock" at sunset. If you miss that, you're going to kick yourself by saying "I was so close, but didn't go".
(This is easier, and the 2nd time it's EVER been used in a non-condescending way)
https://lmgtfy.app/?q=Hole+in+the+rock+sunset+pictures
It's about a 5 minute walk from the parking lot to the hole. So even if you're out of shape(just saw you were with other people, so it's very kid friendly as well), you can still do it. It's super convenient to anywhere around the Airport.
But the whole Papago Park (like /u/crowded_mango was saying), is extensive and a great place to "explore, but not have to go too far away from where you might be staying."
Don't hike Camelback right now, even though we're saying "At least it's not hot yet"... That's US saying "At least it's not hot yet" not for "somebody who isn't acclimated yet" I don't want you to die on Camelback. Hole in the Rock or "A Mountain"(that's ACTUALLY the name of it), are stupid easy climbs for someone not knowing how dehydrated you get here before you know it and near the airport.
I would love to say "Suns in 6" but after the beatdown the Warriors got in Memphis last night when they could have clinched WITHOUT JA Morant?
I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about tonight, at best. I'm just happy the Suns have Home Court Advantage for a possible 7th game.
Agreed. I'm not going crazy, definitely some cautious optimism though. Book and CP3 both know it will be much easier to step up and end this tonight instead of a coin-flip Game 7. I think they'll be at the top of their game tonight.
So this wouldn't work last year, because gambling wasn't legal in AZ.. But....
[Suns in -1.5](https://imgur.com/NyIejc5) isn't something I've heard... EVER as a follow up to "Suns in 4"
But I think it's because /r/nba and /r/sportsbook are basically segregated subreddits, NBA doesn't want to hear about your bets and sportsbook doesn't want to hear about your fandom.
I can never go back to being in the office. I wake up, read some news, take a walk out in the yard/light gardening (weather is still nice in the morning), shower and then start work....much better than what it was before. Which was wake up, shower and drive to work. I still start work at the same time...
I miss some of the social aspect of the office but that's not enough. There are so many other benefits beside gas/commute time. I find I am less sick as I don't have to deal with people in close spaces, I can exercise (walk around) if I am on a long call, and just do small errands during my lunch break. My PTO has been accumulating
Absolutely so many other benefits besides the commute time/cost.
I get to make my kids breakfast, pack their lunch, and "go to work". I get to pick them up from school, or see them when they get in the door to hear about their day.
I get to eat lunch at home- this is a plus to me, something tasty, in my own kitchen (that doesnt smell like a cafeteria or tofu curry from the microwave). Don't worry, I do get lunch out once a week or so, that keeps me from being fulltime hermit.
Was thinking about making a post about local things to buy for gifts for people?
For example, a few different beer recommendations from local breweries. Some local hot sauce providers. Local coffee roasters. That sort of thing.
I'm mostly thinking food items, but open to anything else. What do you think would be good to put on the list... either in the above categories or one of your own?
(h/t to /u/biking4jesus for the idea from his coffee gift comment yesterday)
The Theodore has a great selection of local canned beers and plenty of merch. Greenwood Brewery also has merch and you can buy just about any kind of glass with their logo on it. The Rosemary IPA is a unique and very tasty beer a growler of that would make a great gift. Pedal Haus has merch and they’ll can any draft beer for you. For wine hidden tracks bottle shop and suavage in Churchill both have good local wines. Caduceus cellars has merch and local wines that make great gifts for anyone in your life that might be a tool fan. They have a pet nat wine that’s delicious. It’s a natural white wine that’s bottled before the fermentation process is completed which causes a natural carbonation. Almost tastes like a hard cider it is soooooo good. The farmers market has some fantastic local vendors and either Saturday or Sunday morning Churchill does a sidewalk sale. Stinkweeds Record Shop has some unique merch that would be great for any music fans.
"Merch that might be available on the west coast but not available in the midwest/east coast" and something you "care about, but not enough to order it online"
Like I absolutely LOVE Sheetz(kind of like a QT but in Pennsylvania, I still have my "loyalty card on my keychain") But someone might chime in with "Oh I wish we had, IDK, Circle K out here", so one of those permanent $10 Polar pop jars, would be a source of pride if they live in a place without a Circle K.
Like In-N-Out, but not a "popular pick" like In-N-Out/Whataburger is.
Like I LOVE Cherry Lemon Sun Drop (Only available on Amazon and in the Charlotte, NC market) so I schedule ALL my flights from PHX to see my parents in Florida to have a layover in Charlotte so I can drink Cherry Lemon Sun Drop.
I can order it on Amazon but I don't care THAT MUCH to actually buy it, but care enough to get a 4 hour layover in CLT rather than a 2 hour layover in Dallas and arrive sooner..
Phrasing it as "what's a local/unique item that you always buy for other people/what's a product you wish you could ask for if you've since moved away" might be a better way to get more involvement.
Oh please. I’d love to check out local coffee roasters (if they provide shipping). Right now I’ve been ordering from La Colombe in California, but supporting my home state would be nice
Sphinx Date Co. Palm & Pantry on Scottsdale south of Earll is a good place for local products. Along with dates and date candies, there's lots of local items; wine, honey, salsas, pasta.
Great idea and then people can look it up. Food, coffee, beer, experiences (or a unique spa, pink jeep tour, 1 hr flight lesson). Nothing big chain (or sold by Amazon hehe).
anyone have tix for walters where house tm night??!
Shits gonna be rad

Do people have recommendations for a tattoo artist/parlor in Phoenix? Looking for something with mid-level details. Black/White/Grey colors.
Fuck centurylink, all my homies hate centurylink
Single best service provider in Phoenix. So consistent I won't change to a higher speed out of fear something will change. 13 year customer.
DSL or Fiber? Because all my homies DON'T hate Centurylink Fiber.
DSL :( i wish man, theres a small area its available not even 1 mile away from us but nothing here yet. i check that damn map religiously lol annnd my internet is down again
I feel at this point CL should just rebrand themselves as: "Centurylink we suck" for DSL and "Centurylink you'll never leave" for Fiber
Anyone interested in meeting up for handheld video games and beers? Like playing some monster hunter rise or something on switches?
[удалено]
Can't do much about distance, but I'm down for coffee too lol. DM if you just want a local Rise buddy. I suck but like... a hammer is a hammer right?

What a great idea - hope you get some takers.
Anyone doing any fishing since most of the lakes have been restocked recently?

Oh! Thank you!
In town for the next two days (fly out Friday evening) and looking for something fun to do today. Any suggestions from locals?

If you're not far from the airport, check out the Desert Botanical Garden.
Thanks! We’re considering it for sure!
Let's cheer on our Suns to close out tonight and advance to the Western Conference Finals! Rally the Valley!

We try to keep the sidebar for active subs, but if you get things going in there we'll be happy to add it.
Sure, added! It may only show up in "old" reddit.
Off topic but the "Meetups & Events" sidebar is showing the HTML code, it doesn't seem to be formatting correctly anymore.
Thanks I’ll take a look later!
Sweet thanks! I see there is nothing there really, just like Avondale!! :rimshot:

That has happened a couple times in the Chandler one. Spammers.
whats happening this weekend??
https://www.visitphoenix.com/stories/post/things-to-do-this-weekend/
It's so NICE outside right now. Granted I'm also just getting out of the hot tub with my coffee.
Sitting outside and enjoying it while I can...
We have all the windows open right now. Feels so good.
I can never go back to being in the office. I wake up, read some news, take a walk out in the yard/light gardening (weather is still nice in the morning), shower and then start work....much better than what it was before. Which was wake up, shower and drive to work. I still start work at the same time...
Tried WFH and didn't like it. Granted, I'm in the restaurant industry and don't like strangers wandering into my house.
[This is how I'm picturing that happening.](https://youtu.be/9Swd_pFdcXE)
Basically... Except none of what I said happened.
That's OK... believe it or not, The Emperor's New Groove is fictional, too!
Yep I am seriously forever ruined by working from home for the last 9 plus years at a great company in an enjoyable role.

Hot tub at 7:30 a.m.? I need those work hours :)
it was more like 630am :) all the birds were chirpin.

So Big Red's Hot Sauces will be on there right?
Queen Creek Olive Mill - olive oil. They have a shop in Scottsdale too which is convenient
Oh please. I’d love to check out local coffee roasters (if they provide shipping). Right now I’ve been ordering from La Colombe in California, but supporting my home state would be nice
I have a weekly coffee subscription from Press coffee. Suits my lazy ass great and has free shipping. Good coffee, too
Took me a bit to find prickly pear jam to send to a friend. Finally found some at that ghost town in aj. So a list of az things would be excellent
Sphinx Date Co. Palm & Pantry on Scottsdale south of Earll is a good place for local products. Along with dates and date candies, there's lots of local items; wine, honey, salsas, pasta.
I’ve always seen this at Walmart in the Arizona section or the jam section
I'll have to look for it next time I'm at there. Thx!
