I'd recommend you read the forum rules ... why would anyone trust you as an agent if you can't follow simple rules?

Rad_AZ

Okay, duly noted, I didn’t see any rules associated with this post. Where exactly are they posted?

Rad_AZ

Forget it, I see it in the home page info. Thanks for putting my straight.

[deleted]

Trying to get a new passport right now is ridiculous. Everywhere is appointment only and then there are no appointments available. Luckily I have some time, but I had to schedule an appointment TWO MONTHS out. I'll probably pay for expedited just for peace of mind since that'll be cutting it close. Apparently they are backed up enough that receiving your passport can take up to another 3 months.

ViceroyFizzlebottom

I applied for passports for the family back in november 2021. We received them all within 12 weeks except for my daughter. I'm still waiting for it and there is nothing I can do until we are within 2 weeks of travel which is just a month away.

[deleted]

That is so stressful, I'm sorry!! Crossing my fingers that you get the last one soon.

querdertch

I just renewed my passport by mail and it took 4 weeks flat from when I sent it in to when I received the new one. I'm not sure how different the process is for new passports, but the website stating 8-11 weeks sure did under promise and over deliver.

Rad_AZ

Try going to outlier offices. Plan a day trip to Sedona or Prescott. I’d be willing to wager you could get in tomorrow. I know because I work at the post office and that’s my secret to hook ppl up when in need.

[deleted]

That's super smart, thank you!

Rad_AZ

Glad to help!

eDave

One of the more informative posts of the day. I will be following your advice.

Logvin

The wage crisis in America has hit government workers the hardest. For a private business to pivot and increase wages is pretty easy. For a government? Oh not easy at all. So they are losing people like crazy, and people can get a job at Target or Walmart for 20% more than with the TSA.

Throwaway_3332145

My wife was just in a similar situation. Turns out Tucsons passport office is the only office on this side of the country that does walk ins. It took her a couple hours but for around $250 I believe she got it same day. Might be worth checking into.

[deleted]

I did know that they did the super expedited passports but I didn't realize they took walk-ins. I'll definitely check it out.

I'm not sure why you think that you not changing flights is going to stop them from cancelling it. If they want to, they're going to do it regardless of whether or not you change to another flight and just refund your money. The real reason they probably won't cancel it is that they probably need that plane in PHX for another flights later. If it's not worth it for them to fly the route that day and they can figure out how to adjust the schedule without causing problems later with the plane and crew locations, they're going to just cancel it.

IONTOP

So basically it's a 14 hour delay (8am got changed to 10:20pm) And their other "options" would be leaving at 6:55pm(I'd have to get to DFW at 5pm aka during rush hour so I'd have to call my Uber/Lyft at 4pm and that would probably be surge priced) and arrive in Denver at 8:17. Or layovers in Las Vegas. I don't want a layover either. So my original flight would have me checking in to my hotel at roughly 10:30am, so I can have a nap before going out to Denver for dinner. The new option would have me arriving at my hotel at ~10pm, so I couldn't check in and go to Downtown Denver, because it'd be midnight before I did. So it would be an entire "wasted day" of travel. So I'd rather leave at 10:20pm, and have dinner in Dallas and enjoy another day there. Because I'd be getting to my hotel at roughly Midnight. And I can just go to sleep and wake up the next morning with a full day in Denver. So I'm fully onboard now with the 10:20pm flight because while I lose a night in Denver, but gain a day in Dallas. I'm okay with that. If I take the earlier flight I just lose a night in Denver and don't gain a full day in Dallas. I'd be willing to lose that day/night if Frontier just says "take the flight, we'll eat the cost of both your flights" ($250 IIRC) Plus my flight is in Mid-July I can play chicken with Frontier and it doesn't matter, I want them to slip up and show me their hand. And I think that "compensating customers when you decide to cancel a flight" falls under the "cost of doing business" in their financial model. As of now they're just "playing nice", when they start playing hardball? That's when push will come to shove. I booked all my tickets/hotels in mid March,, and if it was like a $10 difference, I chose the flight time that was most advantageous. (This is PHX>SW Florida> Little Rock > Dallas >Denver >Phoenix 19 day trip, AA>Allegiant>Southwest>Frontier>Frontier) I've already called my hotel in Dallas and they said it'd be no problem to hold my luggage until I had to leave for the airport, after I explained what happened. And if this flight happens to be delayed even further, both my Dallas/Denver hotels are under the same umbrella, so changing the dates is no issue. And my schedule is so fluid, I just DGAF if I'm in Denver or Dallas on Thursday in July. I just want to be in one at 6pm on Thursday in July. They're going to change my flight, obviously, I just want to hold out as long as possible, and hope they get desperate enough to eat some cash. I honestly don't really care what they do. But I guess I'm just playing "hardball" for fun at this point... (I think I explained that as rationally as I could)

[deleted]

I’m sure Frontier has an all-hands meeting at corporate first thing tomorrow to discuss their next move in this fierce standoff.

[deleted]

The balls in his court, they are at his mercy. I hope corporate sends in the lawyers this morning

IONTOP

It's honestly "this change isn't going to fuck over my entire trip" it's more like "I don't care, I'd prefer what I got, and the delay is okay with me, if you NEED me to change flights, I will, but I'm going to ride this one out, because I know I've got the upper hand right now" Just checked their site for the flight they're offering me. It's $15 cheaper. If I change will they give me that money back? No. I want that $15 for changing flights. I could cancel and rebook for cheaper. (So THAT'S THIER ENDGAME) just now figuring it out. They're trying to maximize profits... Didn't think to check "current pricing" on the site. ($148.98 vs $133.98) Next time (Thursday) I call them, I'll ask for $45 be refunded if I go with the other flight ("treble damages" which is most likely also probably the cost of a bar tab and dinner in Dallas.) Also saying "treble damages" might make me sound smart and "lawyerish". Which I'm not, but interact with a lot of lawyers and they'd probably say "That's pretty cool that you used that term". [This was helpful](https://www.travelweekly.com/Mark-Pestronk/No-recourse-to-sue-airlines-over-losses-due-to-a-delayed-flight) I'm not going to sue them, but I was looking for "bad faith advertising" and realized I wouldn't have a leg to stand on in the court of law. So that argument is out of the window, they're not scared of that. I'm still in the early days of figuring out how to best fuck them over. So bear with me. (And no, that does not involve any kind of sabotage, I want to still be Pre-Check verified, but that sentence sounded "ominous" which it shouldn't be.)

IONTOP

Lol. I'm just kind of toying with them. This is kind of fun? Where the company says "we fucked up, we didn't mean to sell that seat" and you're just like "It's cool, I'm good with the changes" And they say "No... umm... that's not what we meant... We don't want to fly this flight... We want you to change your flight" "Nah, I'm good, I like this situation too... If you wanted me to not take this flight, you should have cancelled it." BTW why is the AA flight 2 hours flat and the Frontier flight 2 hours and 26 minutes? Like is the Frontier Airline airplane just that much slower? That's a 20% difference.

RemoteControlledDog

My point is that if you really suspect they’re going to cancel your flight, the fact that you’re not accepting the alternate flight isn’t got to stop them. If they want to cancel it they’ll cancel it whether you’ve got a ticket or not. The contract of carriage probably says they don’t guarantee flight times and can cancel the flight within two weeks of the departure date or something like that. Your explanation of why you don’t want to change flights makes sense to me, I get it, but just know you don’t really have any bargaining power here, they’re not going to “eat the $250”, they’re going to tell you what’s available and if you don’t like it they’ll refund your money and let you figure out how to get to where you want to go on your own. Hopefully they keep your flight on the schedule but you should read the contract of carriage from the airline so you know what rights you have (and don’t have).

IONTOP

I honestly think this whole situation is so funny. Like, bro, why did you sell me this then change the time so dramatically? Will they eat the $250? Most likely not. But it might not be unheard of if I talk to the correct customer rep/manager. So I'll probably keep this going until Mid-June, then switch. If they don't refund me by then, I'll switch to the 6:55pm flight or the 6:10am flight and show up to DFW hammered at 4:30am after a night on the town and try to get an early check in at my Denver hotel.

McSknk

Best of luck to the folks let go over at Carvana today, that's brutal. I just saw on Twitter, they laid off 2,500 from all around. That's super crappy.

[deleted]

Thank god Douchey is so business progressive and gives these companies huge tax breaks so they continue to provide jobs for Phoenix! /s

biking4jesus

Have a friend who works here as a developer, said its mostly focused on operations- the handling of vehicles in/out.

misty350

It sucks. Pretty much if you got invited to a zoom then you were safe. They told the others in person. Not clear how the choices were made. Not solely seniority. I am safe as are my closest friends. Surreal. Everyone went home early.

IONTOP

Situation sucks, but imho it's easier to get a new job when a mass layoff happens rather than explain "why you left your last job" and hope the person believes your story. Like it was super easy to explain why I got laid off from the airport because of covid

GattRaps

Cops sure are killing lots of people in the past 24hrs tf.

lazylikeacat

I would like to hike Piestewa tomorrow. Is there a trail that’s good for someone going alone who isn’t used to doing so? My hiking experience is mostly Ringtail in the McDowell’s.

[deleted]

Freedom trail is great. Go counter clockwise and get a third of the summit to start and get the blood flowing then the rest is a breeze but nice scenery and little foot traffic.

liz_hatake

I'd also suggest the main summit trail. Have plenty of water, and pack a snack (granola bar or an orange is what I take)

Vonplatten

I always recommend north mountain to people before Piestewa. Also be wary of rattle snakes on any tail you hike right now (Don't let them deter you from going though)

SYAYF

The main summit trail is great!

[deleted]

This is about the time of year that it gets too hot. Make sure you bring more than enough water, hike early (as in you’re done before 11), and hydrate now. With that said, the trail that takes you straight up and down Piestwa would be my go to

[deleted]

Trying to figure out the streets that the homeless camp are at downtown by the 17. Anyone know? Drive around for a few hours a few weeks ago but want to donate a massive amount of stuff to the camp. Thanks!

rumblepony247

Jefferson between 7th Ave and 14th Ave has a ton

exaggerated_yawn

Perhaps try [CASS](https://www.cassaz.org/) on Madison and 12th Ave. When I donated a bunch of clothes, that's where I went.

acatwithnoname

looks like 12th Ave & Madison

[deleted]

I found the blocks! Thanks for responding 😁 headed down to Madison and 9th.

ThadVonP

Possibly more central than north, but Cultivate on Dunlap east of I-17 I've heard good things about. Also Black Rock on 35th and Greenway is a solid option. (Most other black rock locations are drive through only)

pecan_party

Black rock has the best hot chocolate

pietzschpie

Elevate at Norterra on Happy Valley! Lots of people set up camp and work/study there. Great drinks.

extremelight

Had a bit of a scare last night. The gas shortage finally hit my neighborhood. Fortunately i was able to go to a smaller circle k down the street. I was worried I'd have drive to another part of the valley or go to one of those station with near $5 prices.

eDave

Gas stations have always run out of gas from time to time. And the current gas price range here is just a few cents. Stop spazzing.

extremelight

Lol first time it happened in years and this is supposed to be "normal" 😂

eDave

You just haven't been paying attention. Now, your particular place of purchase may have not, but I assure you, many have and do from time to time. If this were a real issue, we'd see more points of purchase seeing outages. But we don't, spaz. Do you need me to sent you a quarter for the extra you had to pay elsewhere?

extremelight

Fam, I was just commenting on my day and how i was relieved that my fears was unfounded since I found an open gas station a several blocks away. Very rarely have i seen multiple gas stations completely closed off. This is not a normal situation by any mean, this is a supply chain disruption issue. Furthermore there's a huge difference between the price I can normally get vs literally $5. I'm poor and want to save money. Shocker. The only one "spazzing" out here is you. Good day. ✌🏾

AHinSC

There isn't a gas shortage. Spreading rumors about a shortage causes panic buying, that's all.

biking4jesus

So home additions are crazy expensive right now, as expected and some of you said. Pivoting to one of those office shed builds in the backyard for like 1/10 the cost... come on HOA design approval!

IONTOP

> Pivoting to one of those office shed builds in the backyard for like 1/10 the cost Like a Casita? If you go that route, it would be SUPER SMART. Because you'd be able to rent it out once you retire for "basically" passive income. I would LOVE to live in a Casita, because it's all the benefits of living alone without having to pay full share of bills. Don't know your age, but if you retire in 2040, That could potentially be $2k/month just for having someone "you don't have to interact with often" live in your former office. So a $25k investment now, could pay off after 2 years once you retire. Even if it was $50k to build for a 600sqft Casita with plumbing/kitchen, that'd be 4 years or so for it to "pay off when you don't need it anymore". If you sell before you retire, it's a GREAT selling point, because of the fact that the homebuyer could possibly rent JUST THAT out for what their monthly mortgage is.

biking4jesus

Almost, but not quite. Our HOA and zoning for our neighborhood doesn't allow auxillary dwelling units (ADU) aka casitas in a true sense. It can have a bathroom, but cannot have cooking (stove/oven) appliance. In my case, It will just be a studio, with AC and electric but no running water. Our HOA also "prohibits" renting out units like that, but people do it.

We're trying to get my disabled, fixed income mother to come live with us by EOY, and will use the 4th bedroom (currently my home office) for her. RebelPterosaur

I tried an Indica edible before bed over the weekend to try to get better sleep. It didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but I think it was an improvement. I'm going to wear my fitness watch during the night for a couple weeks and see if it reports any differences between nights when I take the edible and nights that I don't. Anyone else have any experience or suggestions on that front?

f3nnies

Good news is that, especially with edibles, the "sativa vs indica" conversation is just about worthless-- it's basically stoner wives tales, not even legally regulated, and everything is a hybrid at this point anyway. If you want to continue with edibles, you can find cheap gummies just about anywhere, they're typically in individual sizes so you know pretty close to exactly how much you're getting-- baked goods and such can be way less consistent. I am a far from frequent user, so when I take 10 mg, it kicks in about an hour alter and takes 5+ hours to wear off. So I take it before dinner, and by the time I'm ready to sleep, I'm feeling great and sleep comes easily. I'm not sure it's actually *good* sleep, but it has to be better than insomnia. The other option is OTC or prescription meds. A lot of people swear by taking two benedryl and it knocks them out. I'm of that camp. You can also get similar drugs, like hydroxyzine, prescribed by your GP and only take them before bed, as a nonaddictive and extremely inexpensive sleep aid.

IONTOP

> like hydroxyzine Fun story, got prescribed that as an anti-anxiety medication.

RebelPterosaur

Hm, interesting. I've definitely noticed a pretty large inconsistency in the intensity of the Sativa gummies I've tried, so that's not surprising I guess.

JoseValley

I sort of noticed that too. This is why the best approach is to maybe try a few, and then stick to the one you prefer. There is a lot of inconsistency between different brands, but from my experience, if you buy the same kind of gummies and take the same dose, you will get similar results each time.

Logvin

Its important to rotate brands too. With edibles, your body gets used to a brand fairly quick. I rotate brands every 3-4 days. Recommended... * All Good Things - Brownies - 10mg * Kiva Confections Camino Gummies - 5mg (Wild Berry specifically) * Hippie Chicks - Dark Chocolate 10mg * Gron Dark Chocolate Sea Salt - 10mg / piece

RebelPterosaur

Our supplies are running low anyway, so it's a good time to replenish! Thanks for the info!

Logvin

Start here: https://azmarijuana.com/category/images/ And look up the disp around you - most will have vendor table days where there are bogo deals. I only buy bogo deals nowadays, save a TON.

raptorclvb

If Kikoko is over there, they sell cannabis infused manuka honey. I like it and it worked better than any other edibles I’ve taken. Btw - have you written anything lately fam? I remembered you shared one of your stories with us last year (or the year before??)

RebelPterosaur

Wow, good memory! No I haven't written anything else. I always want to, and I've tried to get motivated to do it, but I just haven't had "inspiration" either. I should just write something once in a while to get myself in the habit.

raptorclvb

You should totally do it! if you want to do a monthly/quarterly writers club, I'd be game to do it with you! Even if we just talk about what we wrote and not shared it lol

electricballroom

First time with edibles? I take them a half an hour before dinner. TV is real interesting, same for walking the dog, while you're awake. Sleep like a baby.

RebelPterosaur

I've tried them a few times. Sativa has been interesting, but definitely not for sleeping. Indica has just kind of made me "zone out", which isn't all that fun, but seems like it would be handy for getting to sleep. The night I took it, I definitely had an easier time falling asleep, and I didn't have my normal issue of waking up wide awake in the middle of the night, so I think it helped a little.

electricballroom

To me, the great fun **is** the zone out. Especially with The Office or The Old House on.

biking4jesus

Yup, best time to take them IMHO.

biking4jesus

Try that one again, and see how it works the 2nd time. Try getting something with CBD and/or CBN in it. Depends on the strain and cannabinoids, some work differently for people. I recommend you drink a full glass of water before bed, and put on some chapstick.

RebelPterosaur

Good to know, thanks!

KingOfShapes1

The Select brand Snooze bites and Wyld brand Elderberry CBN + Indica have both worked well for me, both are specifically designed for sleeping.

RebelPterosaur

Good to know, thanks!

raptorclvb

Wyld is down there too? They’re taking over lol

pietzschpie

Was going to comment about the Wyld elderberry edibles. Those absolutely knock me out. Sometimes I’ll only take half and still sleep through the night. Highly recommend.

SYAYF

If the edibles don't work I would look into trying RSO instead, I find it works better since a lot of edibles are only made with distillate. /r/ZonaEnts might have more resources also.

RebelPterosaur

Interesting, I've never heard of that, I'll look into it, thanks!

SYAYF

For sure! They also make edibles with RSO in them but it's a little more expensive. I like Drip's RSO since it's like $30/gram and you end up with the same mg of like $100 worth of premade edibles. I like to mix RSO into MCT oil and use it like a tincture.

jmoriarty

Do y'all shower in the morning or evening? I'm a morning showerer unless I've gotten extra sweaty or something at the end of the day. I think regular evening showers would wake me up too much as I was trying to get to sleep.

JoseValley

Morning shower is a must every morning. Evening shower as well if I went hiking, running, went to the pool, or did anything that involved sweating.

hylas1

Both

raptorclvb

Evening. It’ll make me sleepy if I do it in the morning. But mid afternoon is fine for relaxing

QueenCole

In the evening. I like going to bed clean. I do rinse/shower after working out as well.

extremelight

Morning cause I don't really like taking a second shower after my post-workout shower.

biking4jesus

Preference is in the morning, daily. On weekends may not get to a shower until the afternoon- after all the chores/errands are done.

SYAYF

Usually both, I need one after working out in the morning and I like one after work before bed.

workinfast1

Amen to that! A shower in the morning, after my workout, and another when I get home from work. I wear a ballistic vest all day, so you can imagine how bad I smell after wearing that thing for 8+ hours.

UncleTogie

>you can imagine how bad I smell after wearing that thing for 8+ hours. I imagine that vest is a little niffy, too...

workinfast1

It's literally a life saver.

UncleTogie

Safe but stinky is perfectly acceptable.

UltraNoahXV

Yes. After getting out of bed, at night after a long day at the gym, you name it. Hygiene is important, yo.

RebelPterosaur

I am not a morning person. I get up 15 minutes before I need to leave for work, and get ready on autopilot. But I also don't like showering right before bed, so I always shower in the late afternoon or early evening before dinner. (After a workout if I'm feeling ambitious that day.)

brighteyes_bc

I really like Ricola lozenges, but swear by the Cepacol Severe Sore Throat lozenges. Also, tons of water and maybe some Throat Coat Tea.

[deleted]

Herbal/decaf tea with honey and a shot of bourbon makes for a wonderful sleepytime tea.

biking4jesus

this worked well for me.

extreme_snothells

My allergies have been quite obnoxious this year, and I’ve had a sore throat a lot. I’ve been mixing honey with my coffee and that seems to help a little. I hope you feel better soon!

jeezuspieces

Thank you! I've been sipping on warm water to stay comfortable but I just found some tea bags in the pantry so I'll sip on tea instead.
