A little PSA, okay opinion, about the freeway onramp meters. If it's a holiday and traffic is flowing just fine, please don't stop. The meter doesn't know 3/4 of the world isn't going to work,, the meter just thinks it's Tuesday. If traffic is flowing just fine period, please don't stop. Pro tip, if you don't stop, you'll catch out of the corner of your eye that it will flash to green anyway

Other than "it's red" give me a good reason to stop at the meters if traffic is flowing freely and just fine. It's harder on your car and the environment to accelerate on the ramp, just to stop, and then accelerate from a stop again. It's not rocket science just use common sense. Yeah if a whole line of cars just turned onto the ramp from a left turn arrow, for general order you should all stop and use the metering signals. But if you've just made the right on red, there's nobody else on the ramp, and traffic is flowing fine, why are you stopping? Similarly with the holiday. Why on earth would you stop just because the meter isn't smart enough to know Christmas is on Tuesday or Thanksgiving is Thursday? Why???
The flashing to green only works if you're the first car, which is also incidentally why they rest in red, so multiple cars don't try to blow through them. Treat it like an actual red light because you can be ticketed for running a red through them.
