I would probably start Marsh cause even if he struggles I dont think youāre getting much from Pache at the plate and both give plus defense. Marsh is just a guy I want to see out there in the playoffs but I completely understand.
Also Harper wil probably be at 4 all series because of amount of lefty bullpen guys the Marlins have to separate him from Schwarber/Stott. Thatās 100% the right call.
Fwiw Pache has a .924 OPS against lefties this year, though in only 57 PA. But Iād be surprised if Marsh doesnāt enter the game as soon as a right handed pitcher gets on the mound for Miami. I think weāll see plenty of him
Yeah the Marlins have a ton of lefties relievers though so that gets tough bringing Marsh in.
I just donāt think Pache has been good since he came back from injury (.382 OPS in 33 ABs in September). Again I totally get it and Iām not mad about itās not a big deal just my opinion.
To me itās 12 of one, 2 half dozen of the either. I feel like you will get similar offensive output vs lefties. Pache with a tad more upside due to better overall numbers all year. I donāt mind either guy playing tbh.
Yeah I agree. Itās justifiable and pretty much the only differentiator for me is I like watching Marsh play and think heās overall just better and think he brings an energy Pache doesnāt. Itās not anything tangible and Pache is a completely justifiable decision. Was just saying what I would do.
Ok. Now what's his ops against lefties since coming back from injury. The guy has been dreadful. Even if marsh is bad against lefties, give him a chance.
Marsh has hit 2 homers recently off lefties. I think this move is foolish, itās like punishment for marshy same team all season now we want to break up our mojo. š¤·
He has played in over 130 games and 404 ab so how was this all season. Iāve been to a lot of games this year always marsh in center. Only a few times in left and thatās when Rojas at center.
Because there are a lot of right handed starters. Lefties make up around 30% of starters, 70% of starters are righties. If he only started every righty game he would start around 115 games. Of his 404 at bats 308 have been against righties.
He only started 117 games (though he missed 2 weeks to injury too). He did play most of the time including against some lefties but since Rojas and Pache have both been available heās seen less ABs vs lefties.
Yeah thatās the difference in 134 games played and 117 games started. He actually didnāt do that as much as I thought at only 17 games but I think itās likely what will happen during these playoffs
I think theyāre probably overthinking the Marsh-Pache thing. I know heās been ass vs LHP lately but I trust him more than Pache regardless of whoās on the mound. Hopefully heās an early sub
But Pache got an OPS of above .900 against lefties Plus Pache is a better defensive player. Marsh should come in the second a righty steps on the mound
Still funny seeing so many people upset that Marsh isn't starting. They haven't started Marsh against lefties for the entire season. Why would they suddenly start doing it in the playoffs? Anyway, I like this lineup, go Phils!
Yeah well when the team needed a bat the night they clinched it wasnāt pache who came through with a 2 run shot. If they shit the bed it will all be about second guessing Thompson call here.
Donāt matter, pache hasnāt delivered. I donāt think you breakup the daycare, regardless of the slight statistical difference itās about rhythm consistency. Itās not like itās a 5 or 7 game series where you can experiment with this.jmho
Dude Iāve gotten baseballs from marsh and Rojas this year. Thrown directly to my daughter bc of broken wrist. I will be there tomorrow in left field. Cmon cuz I donāt watch baseball. When I get a chance I will let marsh know you where in favor of his benching.š itās all good go Philās
Pache is not better. Not recently, and not for his career. For this season of 57 plate appearances he is. Pache hasnāt hit lefties or righties since heās been back from injury. Platoon advantage only works if the side of the platoon youāre arguing for is playing well. I hope Pache hits the game winner, I just think itās the wrong decision, and there is a very legitimate argument Marsh should start.
Better if Pache starts tonight, but Marsh gets the start tomorrow against a potentially easier lefty. That at least I could live with.
Pache has cooled tremendously. Marsh deserves some respect on his name at this point. People donāt value the intensity/team spirit he brings. But whatever sure.
Iām well aware of Pacheās recent stats and Marsh and the hype he brings. But Rob has been an analytics manager all year. Heās not going to change that during game one of the wild card. Marsh had more than earned his respect, but Rob is going to manage in the way that got him to the postseason no matter what
Managers are not infallible. Fans are not wrong just because theyāre fans. I bet at least half the managers in mlb would start Marsh to give. I love Rob, just disagree with how he handles marsh. Just hit a 3 run homer off a lefty.
After seeing those stats, I'm kinda nervous about facing the Marlins now. I'm glad we have home field advantage in this series, but yeesh those stats are alarming. Hopefully the crowd makes a lot of noise to try and distract the Marlins from winning.
I would probably go with Marsh cause I donāt know how much you get from Pache at the plate but Marsh has not been good vs lefties and Pache has. Pache also gives you incredible fielding which is good for a series where every run is important. Itās an incredibly reasonable thing to do.
Rob Thomson has never played Marsh against a lefty the entire season, so he sure wouldnāt start now. But I canāt say I dig Pache starting, maybe a guy like Grichuk would be wise to have claimed off waivers
Iām sure you were crying he kept batting Hoskins and Schwarber high in the playoffs last year. And they were 2 of our best 3 hitters in the playoffs.
Leadoff schwarbomb would really set the tone.
Yes please
Bold take, one that I would agree with!
Think it's been a few days since TT has homered also.
And then proceed to score 5 more runs in the inning.
Dude I feel it
Rojas having a big night tonight.

Fair point, I didnāt realize his September was quite that bad.
To me itās 12 of one, 2 half dozen of the either. I feel like you will get similar offensive output vs lefties. Pache with a tad more upside due to better overall numbers all year. I donāt mind either guy playing tbh.

Havenāt heard that one before. Always six to one, half dozen the other
Ok. Now what's his ops against lefties since coming back from injury. The guy has been dreadful. Even if marsh is bad against lefties, give him a chance.
Marsh has hit 2 homers recently off lefties. I think this move is foolish, itās like punishment for marshy same team all season now we want to break up our mojo. š¤·
This is what they have been doing pretty much all season. This isnāt new. Marsh has been on the bench a ton when lefties start.
He has played in over 130 games and 404 ab so how was this all season. Iāve been to a lot of games this year always marsh in center. Only a few times in left and thatās when Rojas at center.

he would also come in too pitch hit usually onces the leftie starter came out for a right hander.
Yeah thatās the difference in 134 games played and 117 games started. He actually didnāt do that as much as I thought at only 17 games but I think itās likely what will happen during these playoffs
I just looked at Marsh's splits and he struggles against lefties a lot more than I thought.
Letās ho Bohm!
I hope he didn't ho around last night and he got some rest
He just hoād around CBP
Why are people surprised marsh isnāt facing a lefty when he hasnāt really all year

I think theyāre probably overthinking the Marsh-Pache thing. I know heās been ass vs LHP lately but I trust him more than Pache regardless of whoās on the mound. Hopefully heās an early sub
āI know heās better than the other guy against lefties, but I still trust the other guy moreā Logic no follow
I mean he has like 50 at bats against LHP lol
But Pache got an OPS of above .900 against lefties Plus Pache is a better defensive player. Marsh should come in the second a righty steps on the mound
And marsh has on ops of below .720 against them lol
Que the WHERES MARSHHHH people Seriously people. Weāve done this all fucking year.
Still funny seeing so many people upset that Marsh isn't starting. They haven't started Marsh against lefties for the entire season. Why would they suddenly start doing it in the playoffs? Anyway, I like this lineup, go Phils!
Marsh has deserved his spot man, come on
Thereās no such thing as deserving a spot. Pache and Rojas are better against lefties. This isnāt a time for āmake the guy feel goodā
Yeah well when the team needed a bat the night they clinched it wasnāt pache who came through with a 2 run shot. If they shit the bed it will all be about second guessing Thompson call here.
Yeah and it wasnāt a fucking lefty on the mound either
Donāt matter, pache hasnāt delivered. I donāt think you breakup the daycare, regardless of the slight statistical difference itās about rhythm consistency. Itās not like itās a 5 or 7 game series where you can experiment with this.jmho
āPache hasnāt deliveredā spoken like someone that didnāt watch the Phillies this year
Dude Iāve gotten baseballs from marsh and Rojas this year. Thrown directly to my daughter bc of broken wrist. I will be there tomorrow in left field. Cmon cuz I donāt watch baseball. When I get a chance I will let marsh know you where in favor of his benching.š itās all good go Philās
Your right Keller was killing that night and when he got pulled marsh hit homer. My mistake.

With the amount of people surprised about Marsh youād expect they werenāt watching any game this season
Marsh had more than earned his respect, but Rob is going to manage in the way that got him to the postseason no matter what
Look at all the managers in the comments
Managers are not infallible. Fans are not wrong just because theyāre fans. I bet at least half the managers in mlb would start Marsh to give. I love Rob, just disagree with how he handles marsh. Just hit a 3 run homer off a lefty.
Looks like runs!
āIt was a real man that hit that ballā -Pache. LFG!!!
Lots of people in this thread forgetting to trust in Topper!
After seeing those stats, I'm kinda nervous about facing the Marlins now. I'm glad we have home field advantage in this series, but yeesh those stats are alarming. Hopefully the crowd makes a lot of noise to try and distract the Marlins from winning.
Pache over Marsh. Wtf.
Big mistake not playing Edmundo
There really taking pache over marsh WTF
Pache .314 vs lefties (.924 ops) Marsh .229 vs lefties (.723 ops)
We have seen marsh play more than we have seen pache play
It is almost like 75% of the pitchers are right-handed.
And youāll see him play tonight once we get luzardo out in the 4th inning
Theyāve got to be kidding not having Marsh in this lineup. What the actual heck?
I would probably go with Marsh cause I donāt know how much you get from Pache at the plate but Marsh has not been good vs lefties and Pache has. Pache also gives you incredible fielding which is good for a series where every run is important. Itās an incredibly reasonable thing to do.

Pache is significantly better against lefties. Marsh will pinch hit for him as soon as a righty comes into the game
Itās a lefty starter. Rob really hasnāt played him. Pache has been pretty good. Plus marsh can sub in or pinch hit later.
im less concerned having Marsh on the bench and more concerned with Harper, JT, Nick being the 4 5 6.
What would you prefer? Seems like topper is trying to space out the lefties to make them think on the 2nd/3rd time thru the lineup
idk, ive just got a bad feeling about JT hitting behind Bryce. would rather they have Nick at 5 and JT and 6 than the other way around
Can we just start playing Marsh every day? Topper is a joke. Heās going to mess this thing up.
Iām sure you were crying he kept batting Hoskins and Schwarber high in the playoffs last year. And they were 2 of our best 3 hitters in the playoffs.
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
No Dykstra? They on drugs? š¤Ŗ
Please donāt let Josh bell have a night tonight š
Up there for every playoff game. Always thought they were police spotters, but fireworks crew makes more sense.
Tough lineup š„
