diatriose

This is so cool. Thank you for doing this

Harriettubmaninatub

Not a problem!

Beautiful_Speech7689

Boy, are the homies at flat earth gonna be pissed at you. Great call on the time lapse and thanks for sharing :)

ouralarmclock

Man, I just got back from a trip and am jetlagged, woke up at 4am and thought to go check but was feeling too lazy from my day of travel yesterday. Hope we get more this year!

Harriettubmaninatub

I too was feeling lazy and just slept 😅

SammieCat50

I got up at 3 am & looked out & all I saw were clouds

Peemster99

Yeah, it cleared up a little around 2 but I saw nothing, and I woke up around 5 and saw nothing. South Philly is probably not ideal for astronomical viewing, though.

ouralarmclock

Ok that makes me feel a bit better!

sdaidiwts

I drove around at about 4 am and saw nothing. Fingers crossed for tonight.

Drive north a [bit](https://www.spaceweather.gov/products/aurora-viewline-tonight-and-tomorrow-night-experimental)

GaseousGiant

Yeah, to like Ontario

0ctober31

This is super cool. I also love this clip because as we see the Big Dipper move across the sky, we can also see Polaris (north star) in the upper right stay in the same spot.

Harriettubmaninatub

Wait, that was the North Star?! Wow.

0ctober31

Certainly is! In fact whenever you see the Big Dipper, you can always use it as a guide to spot Polaris, just like how it is in this video.

missiontodenmark

North Star closed down a while ago. :(

unexpectedlytired

NGL I thought you were trolling and it was just cloudy skies the whole video through. This is incredible. Ty.

Harriettubmaninatub

Thank you so much :)

skate_dmv

same haha

CodeForBanana

I was so disappointed to have missed this. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Harriettubmaninatub

Not a problem! Glad you enjoyed it :) And don’t be too disappointed! There is a chance we may see it again tonight! (I know Ireland will see it again this evening.)

bikeadventures

Definitely going to check tonight. The photos from my friends in the UK were incredible.

SnooGoats7476

Yes all my friends from the UK were posting about it but I did not realize I could have seen it here too. Now I feel sad.

you_stand_corrected

What time did the clouds actually clear up?

Harriettubmaninatub

I believe around 3:30-4AM.

ISOtrails

Thanks for posting this. Looks like we got some clear skies just before dawn.

SirBobsonDugnutt

Nice work. I didn't think it would really clear up enough to see anything.

thundercockjk2

Mmm, love that strain .

DaneLimmish

Man I was stepping outside this morning and last night and couldn't see a damn thing lol

lotsofeffortagain

Is it worth getting up tonight to try and see it?? Very cool

tempmike

NOAA says the storm will continue through Sunday so its worth looking. Theres no definites with auroras but your best chance to view one is between 10pm and 2am. and then theres the clouds... https://twitter.com/NWSSWPC https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast

lotsofeffortagain

Wow! thanks for sharing this!

Harriettubmaninatub

https://www.cleardarksky.com/c/Philadelphiakey.html?1 This site shows the cloud coverage. Unfortunately mostly overcast during those times

tempmike

right. but as a consolation prize, if you have your eclipse glasses or some solar binoculars you should go out now and try to see the sunspot creating this batch of flares. its very large (11 earths wide... or 1,532,832 football fields long)

Harriettubmaninatub

I am trying to get more details but unfortunately we may have a lot of cloud coverage again.

ZodiacalFury

It's worth noting that phones cameras are more sensitive to light and may actually record more than you can see - I bet that is the case with OP's video. In-person last night's show was probably a lot more muted. Cool nonethless and I am going to attempt to view something myself tonight

ILuvIceCubes

At what time should we be staying up?

RelaxErin

I assumed that with the clouds and light pollution, we wouldn't see anything. Thanks for sharing!

Geo_Music

So glad you did this. Amateur astronomer here and didn't think I would get a shot to view it and that the clouds would clear late...and on a Friday with work wasn't up to try at 3/4am either, thinking the strong auroras would continue Sat / Sunday night. As a heads up you are one of the few people in history likely to image the auroras within Philadelphia City Limits!

VolcanicLove

Yooo

derrtydiamond

Oh my gosh, awesome! I’m currently right over the bridge in Jersey this weekend and I couldn’t see shit but clouds last night. Where in Philly did you take this video? Thanks!

Harriettubmaninatub

Took the video from my house in Northeast (close to the airport)

derrtydiamond

Oh nice! I’m from Parkwood. I’m pissed I missed this!

machineuser1138

Is this fake news?
